    History trivia:
Before Sabah independence from British in 1963 Kota Kinabalu (KL) was known as Jesselton. The name Jesselton was decided in 1899 in honour of Sir Charles Jessel then the Vice Chairman of British North Borneo Company (BNBC) - the company that owned North Borneo (now known as Sabah).

@@emmanuelbocar7263 , "...Sabah belongs the Philippines...". Dreaming again?
"...you search more about the history...". It depends on which website you visit and get your information from.
"...in the process of taking it back legally...". We had been hearing this kind of rhetorics since 30 to 40 years ago.
Philippines claims Sabah on the basis that Sabah was claimed to be owned by Sulu. Sulu claimed that Sabah (actually only eastern part of Sabah) was given by Brunei to Sulu. On the other hand, Brunei refuted this claim and denied ever having given eastern part of Sabah to Sulu. There was NO DOCUMENT regarding the transfer of ownership of eastern part of Sabah from Brunei to Sulu.
When Brunei ceded Sabah to NBCC, it was the WHOLE of Sabah, showing that Brunei still owned the whole of Sabah at that time. This cession agreement was documented. When NBCC went to Sabah to do their business, Sulu Sultan claimed that eastern part of Sabah was under Sulu. So NBCC had to make a deal with Sulu just so that they could do their business. This "pajak" deal was also documented. Whether this "pajak" was "rent, lease or cession" was another issue. But still there was NO DOCUMENT regarding the transfer of ownership of eastern part of Sabah from Brunei to Sulu signed by both Sultans.
This showed that Sabah or eastern part of Sabah had never been part of Sulu, it was only a claim by Sulu.

Ahh,Land below the wind...Sabah Borneo.Malaysia is a multi-national country, and it is even more so in Sabah. With 33 ethnic groups in a population of three million that communicates in over 80 ethnic dialects, the different races here in East Malaysia are even more diversified compared with West Malaysia. Sabah is really a melting pot of cultures and people. This harmony can be seen playing out in many parts of Sabah, where people of different races and religions can be seen happily chatting together at the local kopitiams. You should come on middle of May next time so that you can see and enjoy our biggest festival,we called it Harvest/Gawai Festival (Tadau Tagazo do kamaatan). Don't forget to try Sinalau Bakas next time @Eileen♥️
