    Thanks for checking out my tutorial! I’m seriously curious, have you cut your own hair!?! This was actually hard for me to figure out how to film since I’m not used to doing teaching someone how to do it on themselves! Lol

      I was *just* about to get my hair chopped when covid19 came along. 🤦‍♀️
      If my hair weren’t so heavy, I’d wait, so THANK YOU for this! Headaches, be gone!
      (I do cut my family’s hair... I’ve just never cut my own. Wish me luck! 😅)

      I’ve cut my own bangs a few times... with mixed results. I think the video was great, but I’m not going to try it just yet.. I will try to wait it out!! 😂😂 I have a friend who lives in Portland. If we ever go back to normal, I’ll visit and YOU can cut my hair !!

      I've trimmed my hair numerous times when I was shoulder length and longer. Several years ago, I took several inches off myself, before finally deciding to go short. (Little did I know that having short hair would mean having to actually DO my hair instead of wash and go! Lol)

    I have been cutting my own hair for over 10 years. My hair used to be very short, but I wanted to leave it grow to shoulder length. Whenever I went to a hairdresser for a trim, I ended up again with either short hair or messed up hair. I had to fix a lot of professional cuts by either cutting it myself again or going to a different hairdresser. Since I have been cutting it myself, I have the length and style I want. And if I mess it up, it is my fault and I did not pay a lot of money for it. Thank you for your very informative videos.

      Katharina Murray Hi Katharina your story is mine !!! Exactly the same story every hairdresser just mess my hair every time !! Even when I ask just for a centimeter cut they end cutting 10 cm !! The last one butchered my hair 10 days ago and it went mulet style with short bottom 🤯🤬🤯 and I paid 70€ for it (my hair was to half back length...) I fixed it myself in few sessions and want go to hairdresser anymore. I will cut it myself and am teaching new techniques!! Kisses from France 🇫🇷 🙋🏻‍♀️❤️

      Yeah me too-I’ve also had cranberry, green and orange hair. I lived in Albany, Oregon, 70 miles south of Portland years ago and at the time Hickok was the bomb-not sure if that was Justin’s parents. Don’t remember why I didn’t travel there for a haircut. :))

      @@justinhickox Could you do it with someone who has shorter hair too? Maybe just below or at shoulder length and also older. Your wife is so beautiful and she has gorgeous straight hair whereas mine is greying and much shorter and curlier and is much harder to cut at home. I know as I have done it quite a few times and been told off by the hairdresser when I eventually get to see her.🤪☹️

    I've been cutting my own fine hair for several years now. I flip my head down & comb all the hair forward, put in a hair tie & pull it down to about an inch or more from the ends. Then I cut off the desired amount and remove the hair tie. I comb it out again & separate the front from the back & repeat the process with the front section to have layers around my face. Simple and easy. Most people can't believe I cut my own hair because it looks like a salon cut. I may try some of your techniques with my next cut to see if it's any different.

    I’ve watch so many videos and you’re the first to actually recommend cutting it wet. Even professionals have said to cut your hair dry if doing it yourself at home. Just when I thought I had the courage. Now I don’t know what to do! 😫

    • @justinhickox
      @justinhickox  4 роки тому +11

      That’s a great question. I prefer doing it wet because it’s much easier to control the hair when it’s wet. You can, cleaner section and therefore get a cleaner line. Especially if your hair is super thick managing it when it’s dry can be a lot more challenging. With that said, if you’re going to do it wet you just want to pay attention to potential hair shrinkage if you have any wave or curl. So just give yourself a little bit of wiggle room with how much you cut off to be safe in the beginning. Otherwise I much prefer doing it wet.

    When I was in school I had two different clients come in to have their diy haircuts at home "fixed". One did use the plastic handled kitchen scissors to cut straight across one pony tail on top of her head; the other decided her fringe was too long and needed some texture so she used toe nail clippers...on her fringe and she tried to face frame with them. Both were juniors in high school, but went to different schools.
    It was interesting to say the least! Your English Cocker Spaniel is sooooo good!!! Thanks for the tutorial Justin!

Better later than ever I have found this video...now I let this mess of my hair to grow out....and than I will follow your guidelines...thank you so much!!!...you do not know how many videos I have watched on long layer cut and did not get so much out of them as yours!!..i joined your group here on yutube and will check your other creations...Regards .Jana

    Good morning, Justin, and your lovely wife and 🐕 s. So pleased you have put video on, as march was going to be my month for taking care of myself, I was 73 on the 18th of march, I lost my husband 16th of August 18, and my son Jonathan on the 19th of August 19.
    So I haven't been able to look after myself. ..
    I now am in isolation so can't get out to have my health checks... It's so easy to sit in one's dressing gown all day. .. but seeing your
    Hair cutting tutorial Justin, I decided to do my hair I have the thinning scissors, that are possibly 50 years old.... I am leaving my hair it's natural colour 🧝,,, I have the Dyson hair dryer which is very good, but now they are making
    Ventilators for the hospital's... In these surreal times. .. each and every one of us has to follow the guidelines.
    Our prime minister and government have been amazing.
    As a people we never had enough time now we have and we have to make a difference for the future...
    So everybody take care of themselves each other and be kind.... Thinking about you all in the US. .. 🇬🇧🌅💞🦋🌞 X X X

      Wendy, thank you for sharing such a painful part of your life and yet you give us hope that yes, life goes on. As a frontline Trauma Nurse, it’s NOT been easy. Families can’t be there to say good bye. Know that we are. We’re holding hands for you. We are there and while even one loss is a travesty, I long for those days when it was one death and not more on a daily basis.
      Reading all you said and shared, truly hit home and gives me hope.
      There is light at the end of this dark storm.
      I have hope and it’s the one thing no one can take away.
      Thank you for staying home and staying safe. We sooooo appreciate your sacrifice and know how difficult it is to be isolated via quarantine but we are so grateful that we won’t see you in hospital because of it.
      Yes, Justin makes it a bit better for us all. He’s certainly on my bucket list when this is done!
      Sending you love and praying you stay strong and healthy from 🇨🇦
      ♥️Justin.....you have no idea the people you reach and even if it’s to take our mind off of something for 15 minutes, it’s a respite from what we face daily and it’s awesome. Thank you for that and don’t stop.

It has always turned out very nice, however...much much shorter than we had planned. Nice to hear about the angles etc. Makes sense. My hero for the day! Thank you Justin for your insightful videos =) I'm 54 and a year ago I had to start cutting and coloring my own hair. Boy,not fun. I have long hair, probably too long for my age, down to the middle of my back, but now I have confidence to cut it shorter...yay! Would you ever consider doing a video on coloring hair? I know, that's a big one to ask but as you know there are lots of ladies and gents like me out in the frequency waves needing to know and wanting to ditch the walmart box color hairdo jobs. Its so terrible that with my last Walmart purchase someone switched out the brown dye for a blond dye...yeah my lucky day. I had to walk around with a orange strip down my head for a month. Maybe just a tutorial on which box color is best. I'm tiring of my "two tone" dark brown to redish brown look and would love to have a more natural dark brown one color look. Your the best! Lucy

    Very good information. It would have been interesting if your wife cut the other side, with your guidance. I gave myself a haircut yesterday using these techniques and I like it better than my last 2 professional haircuts! My hair is shoulder length so it's a little more difficult to cut the back, but I managed to do it. I have cut my hair before with pretty good results, but this recent one is the best I've done. Hi Justin thanks for the video, however I have a right side cowlick in my bangs and was wondering how this should be trimmed as most stylists just cut straight across.. which makes it go shorter than the rest of the hair!

    • @justinhickox
      @justinhickox  4 роки тому

      That’s a great question. This is exactly why I prefer to style the bangs first and then cut them dry. If you were going to trim your bangs at home you would want to style them how you normally would and then cut them after they were style so that they would be even when style. Does that make sense?
