Honest question....I put a little more “vlog” style video in this.:..(the minute long sequence in the beginning with our dog etc). How did you like that? Too long, loved it, not enough?
I enjoyed it, as well as the clips from the town. Always love the scenery you bring us, along with great hair tips!! I liked that you finished up at home, giving us a glimpse of your Sunday evening - a little slice of life along with great hair info.
I love hearing an artist actually give practical advice and ideas for those like me who don’t have the vocabulary or the depth of knowledge to communicate well with our stylists.
Your production is incredible - it's like a film. So much work you've put into this video with some really good advice! Perfect. Hope you all have a Happy Holidays.
Thank you so much! That means a lot to hear. I LOVE the cinematic aspect of video so I’ve really been trying hard to figure out a way to incorporate that into videos about hair (which for some reason, don’t seem to typically go hand and hand on UA-cam). I appreciate that feedback!
@@justinhickox it's so fabulous to hear from you. I watch you from the U.K so seeing the landscape is really interesting! Your cinematic style, particularly at the beginning was spellbinding - not too long, not too short, you started to get into 'the meat' of your subject at a good point (while still out in that incredible background.) I also couldn't help but notice the colour of your jacket with the monochromatic background. In a good way! ( I'm obsessed with colour! I figured that was a nod to the cinematic rule about yellows and blues.) Either way, the sweeping landscape shots, slo-mos, interspersed with more personal touches with your family worked brilliantly. Seamlessly. The comments at the end made me laugh too Thank you for your really helpful non-egoic advice. You keep doing you (please!) 😊
Thank you!!! It's funny.....I literally bought that jacket for the EXACT reason you noticed! I wanted something that would contrast the normal outdoor colors to bring a bit more attention to me in the shots and just because I think it'll look good in photos out in nature! I'm stoked to hear it worked!!!! Thank you!
I love your incredible advice and knowledge. I love your giggle. The scenery you share with us is amazing, particularly as I'm in Perth, Australia without even a hill in sight. And your dogs melt my heart!!! More doggy views please.
I enjoyed seeing your dogs watching your wife cook. They are like my cat and dog while I'm in the kitchen, quietly watching even though they know they're not getting any people food, yet they hope.
I have watched a lot of your videos and they are all well done. However, there is one thing I have not heard you discuss is how to cut/layer someone’s hair that wants there hair to also be of a length that is easy to be able to put it up. I am 65 and very active and most of your videos for women over 50 seem to recommend cutting the hair too short for a quick ponytail or a french twist.
Justin!! I tried Phatt Hair and woke up with volumne 3 days in a row! WOW! It is a great product for my soft, fine, thin hair! Thank you! Beautiful video . . .luv the dog 🙂 Nancy
I know this is about hair but man you have some soul going on there. I think you must be a awesome person in person. Thank you for the hair advice, I'm so unstable when it comes to hair.
I’m just gonna throw this out there! I had a super short pixie cut from 2002-2018. I finally got tired of it and grew it to my collar bones. But, I couldn’t seem to find a style that not only worked with my 49yo face, but also that felt like ‘me.’ I knew I didn’t want to go super short again, so I literally grabbed a last-minute screenshot of a shag before a hair appointment ~ think 1980s Joan Jett. I LOVE THIS CUT and can’t believe I didn’t ‘think outside the box’ for the 2 years my hair has been longer!😂 My son says I look like an 80s rockstar ~ which is how I feel on the inside so apparently I nailed it!🙌 Sometimes it pays to completely shake things up. Always look forward to your videos!👍
I enjoy watching your demonstrations as to changes you would suggest a woman make. I remember when my teenage daughter was in cosmetology school and she talked me into going to her aunt to cut my mid back length hair up to just above my shoulders. When I came home my husband and son weren’t sure who walked in Some of my friends said it took 10+ years off me😁 11:23 Since then I have kept it just at the nape of my neck and I perm it w a loose curl since I am definitely taking after my mom’s side ( she’s 89 and now wears wigs .It makes her look younger). I also have a partially torn rotator cuff so extensive hair styling isn’t an option . It all I can do to diffuse and pick thru the curls and I sprinkle hair building fibers in medium brown to cover the bare areas in the crown area and in front and set w hairspray. Someday I’ll be able to try more creative styles when it’s my turn for wearing wigs.
This is the best explanation of how to decide what hairstyle is right for each person. I have been in limbo for a couple of years and this actually got me excited about my next trip to my stylist. Thank you!
Washington ❤❤❤ My mom was born in Anacortes waaaay back in 1927 and was raised in Seattle/Tacoma. You live my dream...🎉 p.s. If you had not done the vlog, I would not have remembered that beautiful history of my own. Definitely let us in a little bit. Thank you for allowing us on your family walk!
There are billions on pinterest. Since stay at home order and lockdown haven't been able to get hair cut for over a year now. So I've become addicted with hunting down hair styles on google
Happy to hear that you think (almost) all hair can be layered. So many hairdressers say you shouldn't layer fine hair. I need the movement in my hair or it hangs like droopy puppy dog ears.
Beautiful scenery! That dog was amazing! Thanks so much for the thought that you put into your work. I’d love to have someone like you cut my hair. As much as I explain and show photos, no one really does what I am wanting done. I’m not asking for anything impossible. Just what I think would not only flatter my features, but work with my hair texture. The first thing I always tell any stylist I’ve been to is that I need fullness on the sides and I like hair with movement. Then they wash and condition my fine straight hair, the conditioner weighs my hair down so much that there’s no possibility of any body, and the only movement I get is hair that hangs lifelessly.
Thank you so much! We feel pretty lucky to have him. He’s a good dog for sure! Sorry to hear you’re having a struggle with finding the right stylist. Hopefully soon you’ll be able to find someone that understands what you’re talking about.
Thanks so much for always explaining these things in a way that makes sense to us "lay" people. Knowing not only these terms, but what they actually Mean, and will mean for me, (making it all click 💡) really helps when I'm trying to communicate with the stylist, because I already have an idea of what I truly want.
Love this style of video Justin, so much more interesting than someone standing in front of a camera and just talking. Its also great to see some of your beautiful country. Much love and a Merry Christmas to you and your family, from my family here in Australia.
Another fantastic video! I liked the Vlog element and thought it was the perfect length. The way you entertwine instruction with lifestyle and other information is very engaging. Great job as usual💛
Omg , I wish you were in NYC....you exceed the knowledge of the anatomy involving all aspects of overall BEST OF BEST appearance external and internal. Thank you for sharing your great knowledge with all...❣❣❣
Fabulous video! I seriously wanna jump on a plane to have you cut my hair Thank you for the info and for advising us on how to properly search for the cuts we want to check out!
Just found you and am learning so much. Thank you! Now I'll search your channel for curly hair solutions, especially in regard to bangs or front layering for a short forehead with a strong halo and whether fine hair should be layered. I'm sure you have the answer somewhere!
Hi Justin, I personally really enjoyed the intro with this video. So tyvm! It does break up the monotony of too many typical how-to vids, plus it’s very interesting to see & hear & get to share your own experiences with us/others. It’s great & refreshing to be able to share in your outdoor treks’ while you’re giving us pro instruction...kind of like school field trip time, right?-(that always made the learning more appealing & memorable, remember those? Lol!)- so, TYVM for that as well! All in all, I’d say:”you’re batting 💯 % here! 😎👍🏻🥰❤️ I’m thrilled to find your channel & videos with all of the questions & answers & content I’ve been trying to find, delivered in a personable & inviting wayyyy! TYVM, keep up the great work & many more please! Love you & your family, thank you so much for sharing your pro & personal experiences with us😃🏆🌟
Thank you SO much Sheila!!! I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying the content! I LOVE creating these style of videos, so knowing they are being received well is HUGE!!! I appreciate that feedback and support! Merry Christmas!
Thank you, that was very helpful and gives me a lot to think. As we are in total lockdown, my teenage daughter has been cutting my fine hair. I don’t think she is able to do the layering in the back, but probably we can try some layers in the front...
Absolutely! I did a whole video about how to cut layering in the front. If she hasn’t had a chance to check that out, it may help a lot. And make sure to check out the free webinar I do (link in the description of this video) all about how to cut/color hair at home.
Woaoo... I am impressed by all the details and advices you give. I really appreciate it ! I wish my hairdresser would follow you too. I like all your videos. Such a great work ! I totally hear you about the advertisements, but for me, they're a necessity. I want to be able to bring you more content (as my full time job) but to do that, I rely on a part of that income coming from UA-cam paying me (the ads are how they do). I appreciate you're support for sure! Thank you!
I learn so much from your videos. I enjoyed this one best of all. Your dog, Kevin, catching a snowball made me smile. Your wife and her “I have big feet” made me chuckle. The beauty of snowy woods and water was amazing. That beautiful little town was such an awesome place. I actually had fun watching this one besides learning. Thanks for letting me “hang out” with your fun family!😊
Loved this video!! I purchased Phat Hair & have used it twice I will not be without it!! Gives great volume, curl or blow out straight!! I'm glad I watched the video on how to use the product. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Thank you! And......that's AWESOME! I'm so glad you're liking Phat Hair! It's my favorite for SURE!!!! Thanks for sharing that! Merry Christmas to you and yours too!
Thank you Justin and family. Very professional video: Beautiful and heart warming. Also, God bless you for sharing so much knowledge. Much appreciated.
Thanks for all the great videos. One comment it is I think it would be nice if you would share more pictures of what would work then what doesn’t work. I’m seeing the same pictures over and over and I have a round face trying to get away from putting layers next to my chin but I don’t see any examples of what would work just what does not work. Thank you so much. I am growing out my gray but I would like to layer my hair more and keep it longer.
This is the first time I’ve watched you, and this is the third of your videos I’ve watched. You have very useful suggestions, and I will definitely watch more. I subscribed after watching the first video-you’re awesome.
Great video. The background in the scenery shots look like they were shot in black and white! Because of you I am growing my blunt lob out and have gotten layers. I have a “lob” with a long face. It was just adding to my long face. It already looks way better. Thanks for all your excellent tips. Who could ever not like your outdoor activity stuff!? Happy holidays to you and your family.
Beautiful video with great information. I would love to have some long bangs but I sweat too much and would have to wash them every day...sometimes twice a day.
Hi Justin, is there a more “budget friendly” hair dryer and flat iron you’d recommend other that the two you have listed in your my favorite tools and products? Thank you
This video did not start off the way I expected a video on haircutting to start :-) Then you said you had a course on how to cut own hair at home - at that point I subscribed, because I hate going to the hairdresser. Thanks for the video. Wonderful video, love the snow, the story telling and the location.
Just found you on here…. Thank you!!! I feel like my hair has a path…! I’m cling out your flat iron “how to” video and your hair cut at home video…. Maybe to be able to trim the layers for maintenance after a stylist gets it right. If you’re ever in Southern California or I’m in Washington- we’ll I’d see you in a second. My salons closed down in Covid..😭
Hey Justin I love your dog 😍 Great tips & equally good is the wilderness & nature around you Wow I’m from bangalore india .. great tips , appreciate it 👍
Your Videos are Awesome Justin!! Don't stop doing what you're doing. Film the way you want. Merry Christmas to You and Your Family. I wish more hairdressers thought like you. I Love that Lob with the waves in your thumbnail. Gorgeous.
Love this video! I so want to hang out with you and your family, lol! You all seem to have so much fun and live the nature walks, just amazing!! Thank you for the wonderful videos, I look forward to every Tuesdays post. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year!
I really enjoyed the Christmas lights and the dog footage!! I have a husky, this is our fav time of year, snow and cold haha, up here in Canada! Very knowledgeable content with some nature, perfect combo! :)
Thanks so much for all of your hair tips and taking the time to educate us on haircuts, maintenance and hair goals.. Just wish you would use plus size models. Or elderly women that have a “fuller jaw line” aka double chin and I hate to say it ugh..“jowls.” BCuz mine DRIVE me nuts! How can I have longer hair but not draw attention to my chubby jowls 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️

Nice! Glad I could help! Can’t wait to hear what you find and how it goes! Are you thinking of a big change?
Justin Hickox yeah, I usually go for one length since I’m pretty low maintenance but I’m going to try some longish face framing layers!
I really enjoyed the Christmas lights and the dog footage!! I have a husky, this is our fav time of year, snow and cold haha, up here in Canada! Very knowledgeable content with some nature, perfect combo! :)
Washington is such a beautiful state....so much nature and untouched by humans....🙏❣❣❣
