If my supervisor approves it my topic is gonna be about Listening comprehension difficulties and strategies for EFL learners. Since I'm dealing with a non native speakers of the language. Pls tell me your opinion.
I’m currently writing a dissertation on the impact of the 2015 migration crisis on UK politics and what I’ll say are the two biggest pieces of advice for me are planning and starting your dissertation early. I only started on Monday and it’s due on may 17th so I’ve now written about 3500 words whereas my housemate has been doing bit by bit since February and has written 7500 words. To contrast how our lives are rn he’s at a tester concert and I’m at home writing about nationalism, securitisation and populism...
In kind of the same vein as what you said about your lit review, if I found a really good article, essay,, or really any type of primary source that seemed reallt useful, I would go and check out all the things the author/s referenced in their writing and usually it turned up really good stuff. This was for my masters diss and I got an A at 82%
I hand mine in on the 28th May!! I did a secondary research dissertation so didn’t have stats but I still hated the analysis part! The tables thing is so important- even when I’ve had to write up notes for presentation I left more words on pictures of the slides compared to my notes ☺️ thanks for all the tips!
I remember last year when you were talking about finessing the word count by putting stuff in tables I did that this year (deadline is in 2 days) and i'm gonna think about adding more graphs because that's a good point. Thanks!
I never done a dissertation as of yet in my academic career. The closest I got is a formal report on why Canada is Losing Biodiversity 4 years ago. All the formatting , word count, and editing. It is probably one of the most well structured reports I have done up-to-date however, going back and looking their are some errors I noticed. I am taking Business Writing Strategies during summer that has one at the end. We determine the proper communications for a business. part of me is like why am I doing this to myself again but also excited because my writing has got better since then so to compare.
I am literally working on my thesis so much, the upcoming week I have to do all my data related things (coding in stata, etc) so I am nervous... But hopefully it will go alright!!! Thanks for some tips :)
Great video. When your dissertation will be available for purchase? I am writing mine, 10000 words for the University of Essex but I am struggling with the format. Not sure what should be in each section, I wrote my proposal and scored poorly but did not have any guidance from the university. I have content, I know what I want to say but I am struggling to put things together.
first year economics/accounting where I had to do a literature review, and I did it on the effects of Covid-19 on the labour market and the consequences of that on long run economic growth, I completed it within an intensive 2 week time frame and got 70%. I have a choice of doing a dissertation in my final year, but I don’t know if I should. Do you think if I didn’t do a dissertation in my degree, it could lower the potential of me getting a better employability prospect?
do you know anyone who did a more qualitative economics dissertation? as in not so heavy on data or models... I'd rather not just do an econometrics project lol
Let me know your thoughts on doing a dissertation! Leave a like and I’ll catch you again soon 🔭

How about supervision? Did you get feedback from your supervisor during the process?
