Is right elbow coming out an up normal or should it be closer to body all way through on punch?

It depends what you mean i guess. His punches looked good to me tho. You dont want it to flare out too much or you will telegraph ur punch but u dont want to throw it from ur stomach either the punch should leave from ur face and launch straight out at ur opponent. There are many variations of ways to throw each punch for different scenarios tho but if u are just starting up u should always start most basic first. I wouldnt focus too much on what ur elbows doing if ur brand new tho honestly. It can help to refine ur punch later on but if u move the rest of ur body correctly the elbow should naturally follow a decent path. Its mostly hips feet and shoulders. Kinda hard to explain without showing but i’d focus mostly on hips feet and shoulders. The arms job is mostly just to make the fist follow a straight path from the beginning to the end of the punch and eventually to get that quick snappin motion but u dont even have to worry about that at first just go slow and focus on form. Its all just about shifting energy efficiently. The floor is ur fulcrum so that is why even from a purely offensive perspective it is still important to always keep a strong base. Doing footwork drills will help with this. Once u have the footwork of how to move around the ring i would focus on generating power from ur hips before cleaning up the footwork on ur actual punches. Ur hips is where most of the power comes from. Think of it like a hotwheels track. The hip movement almost acts like the boosters before the loopdy loop. It takes that power u have generated from the balls of ur feet and the ground and gives it that extra umph. The shoulder moves with the hips anyway so it just has to act as a piston to launch ur arm out as the arm extends and retracts along a straight path. Its all very subtle movements tho and all performed in one fluent motion so i’d look up a video so u can actually see it instead of imagining what im saying but if you take it slow and focus on the fundamentals of the punch the elbow should naturally follow a decent path. Once u have it good standing still then try it out moving around this is when the actual foot work comes in. A lot of beginners keep their back foot too stationary on the longer range right cross/straight too and this will cause you to over extend and go off balance so just focus on keeping a good base while u do this. Again tho make sure u find a a video with a good coach so u can actually see these movements. I suggest baltimore boxing with coach D. Just found him the other day so im not sure if he has a tutorial on the 1-2 or not but his channel is one of the best ive come across. He gives very realistic applicable advice and he knows his shit he wont give u any bad advice. The fundamentals are always the most important part of boxing even for the pros so channels that focus on fundamental aspects of boxing are gonna be better for u then ones that focus on fancy combos and drilling more advanced techniques. Those can be cool if u already have a lot of experience but even for the pros nothing is more important than the fundamentals. Focus on that and you should be able to find some good yt channels to help u. Also boxing gyms are usually pretty cheap if u have any in ur area. A good boxing gym is usually only like 50 bucks a month
