My wife was a D1 gymnast. She still does college judging as a hobby (and knowing how the scoring system has made me much more interested in the sport). Like a Bulldog that ate string, I shit you knot...as a life time snowboarder and kayaker, 3 sport athlete in high school, D1 athlete, etc... Gymnastics is absolutely insane when it comes to body control and awareness. I tried to do a balance beam routine my wife used to do in college after several months training and I lost a good 2.3 points off the difficulty arrangement.
Love these videos where you are trying different things outside your wheelhouse. It shows the level of strength and condition you have, but also demonstrates how amazing other people in different disciplines are, the pommel horse example being a classic, looks like it may be easier than it is, even if you are very strong to begin with 🙂
Magnus is such a natural. Odin barely gave him any coaching or spotting and Magnus made very quick progress on a lot of these. If he did a collab with Nile Wilson he progress so quick!
A roundoff (even though a basic skill in gymnastics) is actually really hard because you're rotation around all three body axes at the same time (compared to only one axis for a front- or backflip). So it's understandable that it was so difficult. Oh and the iron cross is actually only a B element (hold 2 seconds) unless you do it in a V-Sit position, then it's C.
Gymnasts are freaky. All the things they train that test so many aspects: strength, both static (especially core, holy smokes) and explosive, flexibility, balance, control in the air. It's like the ultimate expression of human mobility I guess.
This was an enjoyable watch seeing Magnus setup for something he couldn't just muscle through but had the physicality to execute once taught proper techniques. "I'm not doing a backflip." while having ptsd flashbacks to those sessions with Juji was perfect, need more Juji collabs. That should be your 3 million sub special, Magnus finally learns to backflip. *always sunny intro music*
Hey Magnus, I've been an avid viewer of your channel for a long time now. I just wanted to let you know that you have inspired me and my daughter (Age 4) to start climbing over the past couple of years and she is getting really good. Whenever we put her to bed and she is not tired she comes downstairs and says can we watch climbing videos and asks to watch 'Magnus'. I am more than happy to put her on my knee and watch a video with her before shipping her back upstairs. (She also goes gymnastics and loved this one - she laughed a lot at you falling at the end). Thanks for the content man and know you are reaching a lot of people with your energy.
Just wanted to say thankyou to you Magnus, for about 2 years now I've been watching your video's, been really enjoying it and also wanted to start climbing. I never did because I am chronically I'll which means I will get sick every other week almost making me loose a lot of my strength and endurance, but then i realized bouldering isn't all strength and endurance its also skill. 2 weeks ago I said why not give it a try? I've been loving it. I'm already solving V3/ easy V4 problems and my body has been feeling so much better already too! So thankyou for making your video's and inspiring me to start climbing!
This was super interesting. Thanks Magnus! I would have thought the rings and horse would have been much easier for a strong athlete like you. Gives me a lot more respect for the gymnasts. Cheers!

Big fan of the channel. Great video. IMHO there is nothing that compares to full contact fighting or motocross racing in terms of difficult sport because every other sport lack either one of these components: 1- cardio to the roof for long periods of time 2-muscular effort to the roof for long periods of time, 3-pain, 4-adrenalin.... a lot of hard sports have three: like climbing can easily get your adrenaline and muscles and bring incredible pain, but will never bring you cardio like swimming or motocross for instance... gymnastics is hitting three but cardio is not one of them... You can blast me if you want, once you've fight full contact or you've raced a motocross bike... ;-)

to be fair, his timing wasn't half bad :D
he is kinda brute force them hahaha, most gymnast use momentum and flexibility to do most of their routine, but he brute force them

He would have performed 2x better in every excercise by controlling and locking in his legs. They play active part too in stuff like that.

Yeah he's already done it a while back, the last time they collabbed which was also when magnus did the iron cross for the first time
