Just yesterday I was playing on my Wii and I got error number 5 on this video, the sound of death. It was very scary. It probably happened because my Wii is around 13 years old. (Edit: it's not happening frequently it happened only once when I was playing the soccer bashi demo)

Actually, Error:003 isn’t caused by “console modification”. It’s caused when a region changed Korean Wii installs system menu 4.2 and 4.3 due to key checks made by IOS70 (and IOS80 in 4.3). This check (according to WiiBrew) involves encrypting byte patterns of the Korean key and comparing them with other hard coded values. If the check returns 0, then the Wii bricks and causes Error:003. This can be resolved in a few different ways, but they are lengthy and may require hardmodding because Korean Wiis are unable to install BootMii as boot2. You can also replace IOS70/IOS80 with a patched IOS60 into slots IOS70/IOS80.

I got "The disk could not be read". I didn't know it was rare, either, lol. I got that when I was around 6, and I naturally freaked out, removed and put the disk back in, and it worked.
The reason that the Wii makes that long never-ending horn sound when it crashes is actually pretty straightforward when you think about it. When the Nintendo Wii crashes, every single driver except the video and audio ones are disabled, leaving you with a frozen frame and a constant "EEEEEEEEE" sound. But the scary part about it is that it startles you, because you have no way of knowing when it will happen or why it did. At least not right away. My thinking for this crash protection fail-safe is because Nintendo advertised the Wii to families, and they didn't want to overcomplicate the system with some kind of more complex crash handler or error reporting systems that can be a hassle, so it would be easier for families.

Hahahaha ok that's funny that will happen to me sometimes Well this one was different but I kept trying to figure out why it wouldn't show the game until I realized I had to put it in the Xbox 🤣
Huh. Mine never made that sound, and my Wii never crashed, but I guess the fans weren't working properly. (Also I could never play games when it was like that.)
5:45 I had that happen to my wii but I could actually play it yet it wouldn’t stop playing that sound. My mum and dad (I was six. Yes, a long time ago) hid it away because it made their ears bleed. Maybe around a decade later I actually found my Wii under a desk, collecting dust and tried to fix it. It worked and my Wii is now fully functional!
I can't say I've ever seen such errors when playing my Wii back when I was a kid. Man, I loved that Wii. I had a lot of great memories playing the Wii. 6:41 was the best part though. I love hearing such nostalgic sounds and music. Thank you for a great video!
The sound of death is probably the sound of the hard drive failing and the pop sound is the sound of it losing power because holding the power button doesn’t shut it off but instead cuts power to all components
@@cunnieseverywhere the nand is the hard drive… the “sound of death” comes from the sound chip repeating the last buffer given, leading to that weird beep
5:45 Apparently that happens because of how the Wii crashes when it encounters a fatal error. Basically it shuts down nearly all drivers, including the sound driver. Apparently due to how it does this it makes a continuous tone. Error's pretty uncommon, since a fatal error only happens if either A: Hardware is damaged beyond repair, or B: Your Wii Menu or software is corrupted to the point it tried running some invalid CPU instruction or something.
In 2018 I bought a new, sealed Wii, and in less than 10 minutes exactly that error happened to me, but the console no longer gave video or sound, it only turned on the laser LED, how could it be possible?
It crashed right as the channels were fading in, so what I think happened was a banner brick - There could've been an installed channel that had an incorrectly sized banner, and because the Wii Menu sucks at handling errors like that, it just crashes.
I've got mine since 2008 with the OG Wii controller and the gamecube compatibily and homebrew and the other hacked stuff on it and it still works i've got more errors on my Wii U (especially the Death Sound a lot) and i only have it for 4 years now
The sound of death one happens on multiple occasions. For instance, it occurs with my Wii whenever I go into guitar hero 3, and try to play online multiplayer. Because online services were disconnected for the Wii, it for some reason doesn’t give the standard error message, but just goes into that horrible sound until you reboot your Wii. Also, the video doesn’t make it too obvious, but the sound is actually wayyyy louder than you’d expect. You could hear it all throughout my house, and my Wii is in the basement.
In 2018 I bought a new, sealed Wii, and in less than 10 minutes exactly that error happened to me, but the console no longer gave video or sound, it only turned on the laser LED, how could it be possible?
same except im just scared of error screens in general. like i dont think of anything, its just the sheer silence and horror factor of a pitch-black screen with nothing but text saying "Your console has encountered something unusual..." scares me and i cannot control it
I remember having that “sound of death” happen at very random times. I Don’t know if the console had any speakers on it or not since I don’t remember it making any noises at any given time so that’s pretty weird. Usually for me it happened whenever I played the game too long, usually past the 3 hour mark it would crash and make that sound if I recall.
For the disk read one, you can also get that if the reading laser is going out or gone. That happened to my Dad's Wii, the original model, white color and all.
My family and I loved the wii, it was common for us to religiously play it. I have encountered so many errors from owning so mny different wiis. I remember the eject button malfunctioning on us, and even having the lasee and fans die during a game. Good times. Still wouldnt give it up. Infact, ive had the earrape beeping noise, it was just the fans getting stuck. After a restart it fixed itself.
Is it nice to know that I have a wii that has encountered most of these messages, and now has the buzz noise. Which is probably the disc reader. It does this every so often but I’m just ready to take the thing out back, out a sack over it, and shoot it in the disc slot. To put it out of its misery
The crash noise is coming from the speakers immediately above the console. It could just be some bad ram, as the most common cause of a complete halt is when the operating system fails to address something to a physical location in RAM. But no, emulators like Dolphin and capture cards wouldn't pick up the noise if it weren't from the speakers.
So I have has the sound of death 2 times. My friend got Just Dance for his birthday and I wanted to play with him. I went over and he couldn’t decide on a dance, so he decided that I could chose for him. I was scrolling down the lists, until I got to the kids menu. I was going to go past but as soon as I TOUCHED the menu, it crashed and we had to reset. Second time, another friend of mine came round to play Sonic Transformed on my Wii U. Everything was fine. I was playing as Sonic, and I was flying around on the boat map (I forgot what it’s called) when I threw a rocket at someone and the game SERIOUSLY crashed. The music was playing on a loop and the sound was so loud, I bet our neighbours could hear. This error was SO SERIOUS that it made my body freeze in place. We couldn’t turn the Wii off so my friend had to unplug it because I was at a loss for words. Ever since, I have stopped playing so frequently. Edit: I have one more story. My friend (who was in the first story) gave me his Just Dance a year later because he had recently bought a new, better one and had stopped using the other one. I was grateful, and immediately started playing. My mind flashed back to the error, and I wanted to test the kids menu to see if it was broken or corrupted. Again, I touched the menu and the game crashed. To this day, whenever I try and go past that menu, it crashes. I have no idea what the problem may be but every. Single. Day I try and get past the menu. It has become one of my daily routines and I have gotten use to the sound. Edit: i haven’t played my Wii in a few moths, and I’m glad you enjoyed the stories and have your own. I always love to hear your stories. Do yall want me to try and play just dance again? If so, I’ll post a video to see what happens Thanks for reading
I actually get both the disk reading error and the fatal error with several of my original copies randomly. Because my younger self didn't know how to take care of CDs/Disks a lot of my old CDs, DVDs and Wii Disks have tons of scratches and don't read properly. My original copy of Mario Party 8 usually gets the disk reading error while the intro is playing, but occasionally it happened during gameplay and was extremely infuriating when I was having fun. I ended up getting a replacement copy because I don't have a way to remove the scratches on the disk.
yeah i remember someone visited my house and tried to play our mario kart wii and whenever we tried to play it, it would just show the “an error has occured” screen so its not scary anymore its just annoying lol
The 2nd one happened to me from my first ever Wii I had. It was when I was like 8, and the Wii was kinda old, and my brother did something with the sd card and deleted some system files by accident, and made this pop up. I eventually got a new Wii, which now is no longer in use too.
Once my young Brother has bitten a Wii disc, but It was me and my sia favorite game. I Remember getting that message alot while trying to turn the game on
@@theperfectspongebobpopsicl8007 if you refer to the reason the message showed up, I am not sure. If you refer to why I wanted to play the game although the disk was damaged it was because I was desperate to play my favourite games
I have gotten almost all of these error codes before. The "Sound of Death" as you called it can have many causes. The main cause is when there is an issue with the software, which is common with homebrew software, but can also occur with overheating causing malfunctions to occur with chips with data inside the system, such as the nand. When I was younger, I got the "Sound of Death" on my Wii, but it actually didn't lock up. Instead, we got strange graphical errors, the Sound of Death, and other misc. issues, but the Wii never stopped working. Someone from Nintendo Support referred to the cause as a "permanent overheat," in which internal components were damaged from overexposure to heat. (In Brawl, there was polygon tearing, and I actually kept a couple screenshots of it).
my wii isnt modded or anything yet sometimes it still gets the sound of death but it still works, i just have to turn it off and back on cause it freezes
The Wii sound of death is the console crashing. The reason it buzzes is because it tries to shut down itself when it crashes but doesn’t have to time to stop the sound components before the main operators. Edit: I can prove this because some methods of causing are easy to replicate.
The sound of death actually happens at random. It could happen with homebrew, if there’s too much stuff happening for the Wii’s power etc. oR iT coUld hApPen bEacUse Sum XbOx

I remember getting the “disc cannot be read” thing with a copy of mario and sonic at the olympic games (2008) and it confused me cuz I was super young and had no idea what it meant
The game disc could not be read that is “super hard” so common for my super Mario galaxy 2 disc, but one time I decided to watch it and it never happened again
I’m just scared of the TV. When I was playing Brawl’s Classic Mode for the first time and I lost and press quit, I ran to another room. Yeah, I know. I was scared, and decided to never play Brawl‘s Classic Mode again. That also happened when I played Super Mario Bros. Wii, like this mode or something.
It's just the announcer sounds sinister when saying "game over" nothing horribly bad or anything. Id argue melee is worse in that regard. This thing in particular never scared me but the melee one gives me chills. Just search "super smash Bros continue" if you're curious
I still have a Wii. Not Wii U. Just Wii. 5:45 happened to me once. Me and my sisters froze. We just stared. We don't freak out when 2:00 happens though. 5:03 One time something similar happened. Yes, it did have that color in the background, although there was no message. It did have a swirl in the middle though. Afterwards we had to get a new wii. (I'm 11 BTW)
I guess that this noise crash, most of the time, means that the game crashed. Really common if mod the Wii, corrupt the game (I do this on Dolphin emulator, and the noise/freeze comes there (yes, apparently the noise comes on the speakers)), or the game crash in some way. That's what I think I guess...
"Error 003 Unauthorized Device Has Been Detected." Important: This error code indicates the region the system was manufactured for is not compatible with the Wii System Menu update. And Error 001, unauthorized device has been detected. This error appears after attempting to play a backup that was burned incorrectly, reburn the disc, or try to load the ISO with something like USB Loader GX. Playing games without cIOS may also cause this issue.
You forgot "semi-brick" Difficulty: Hard Happens when the system is changed to another region and get displayed with a opera error when you enter wii system settings.
I've run into the sound of death several times while using Homebrew on the Wii, it plays a lot when any sort of homebrew application crashes but is fixed with a simple restart.
Same thing.. but mine was all Wii Play, Wii Sports Resort & Mario Kart Wii, I did clean my Wii Play disk and now it works, I got rid of my Mario Kart Wii Duplicates (I had three, and I tested which one it works, and it works, so I kept the working one), and I still cleaned my Wii Sports Resort disk, but it didn't even work and no longer freaking recognisable , therefore I would have to play that on my Wii U where it is recognisable.. :/
Actually the 5:14 error is only in Korean Wiis. The Korean Wii’s have a key and when updating the console, the update would verify if the Korean key is existent. If the Korean key was in the console, nothing would happen but it if didn’t detected, the Wii wild brick and the Error 003 would display
"The game disc could not be read" happened to me (not) recently. I was playing a slightly smudged copy of Wii Sports. Edit: why did this absolutely blow up?!?
Same thing happened to me. My copy of Wii Sports resort gets constant disc read errors on my Wii, but it reads perfectly fine in my Wii U. My best guess is that it’s the disc laser, but other games read perfectly fine, so I don’t really know what the problem is.
The Wii U had far better disk drives than the regular Wii, so that's why it runs better on the less popular console than the one who started it all! The Wii U might be useless, but playing Wii games on there is the definitive way to play any Wii game!
The "An error has occurred" error not only happens when the disc is in another format, it also happens if the disc is very dirty or scratched (in rare cases). There is more chance of having the "Unable to read the disc" error than this one
5:27 this used to happen a lot. I remember I think I had the wii for...a few weeks? And since it was my first console I started freaking out when I heard that noise. I remember being scared and my mother not knowing what’s going on or how to stop it (it was super loud). Anyway I eventually got used to it, it’s normal to me now (it has happened with my wii u too) so I never think anything is really wrong.
5:45 It happened to me when I was younger and I didn’t know how to fix it But the Wii U was coming out in a week when that happened so... I also got the same error with the Wii U but I just turned it off and waited overnight and it was fixed
The wii does that when shit hits the fan and shuts down all drivers to prevent damage normally the issue is ventilation/a corrupt file or even a bad disc but sometimes it means something died inside the wii (specially of the sound comes *from* the wii) The wii u just likes to crash
5:01 I was choosing my character in MKW to play Grand Prix when this error popped up. Scared me so badly as a little kid even though it was the day time lol
I can get 3 to consistently occur with a scratched disc of NSMBW. Something very interesting however is that the font of the error text is different than the one shown for Spyro, meaning something makes it differ.
I remember once that I was playing a car racing game, and all-of-a-sudden actual code from the game or system or something (can't remember, I do remember that it was code though) appeared covering the screen for no reason. Didn't affect gameplay, but at that time I thought it was really odd. Edit: It was some shovelware Wii game. It could've been some debug code or an error handler or something, I'm still not sure, I might need to research this up a bit.
usually happens on modded wiis with the homebrew software crashing (i don't know about wiis but i know about 3ds homebrew and this happens a lot) or with the game crashing in games like nsmbw
I was in a barbers once and they had an xbox 360 for people to play when they were waiting. At first I was like "oh that's so cool" but then every 60 seconds the ventilation error popped up and you had to wait 5 minutes for it to cool down
5:45 happened to me once, and I turned it off and it never turned on again. So my dad just threw it in the firepit. “Talk about watching your childhood go up in flames.” ~ Jughead Jones 2K19

Apparently that happens because of how the Wii crashes when it encounters a fatal error.

It crashed right as the channels were fading in, so what I think happened was a banner brick - There could've been an installed channel that had an incorrectly sized banner, and because the Wii Menu sucks at handling errors like that, it just crashes.

The crash noise is coming from the speakers immediately above the console. It could just be some bad ram, as the most common cause of a complete halt is when the operating system fails to address something to a physical location in RAM.

If so, I’ll post a video to see what happens

The Wii sound of death is the console crashing. The reason it buzzes is because it tries to shut down itself when it crashes but doesn’t have to time to stop the sound components before the main operators.
