Useless fact: The GBA crash also happens on real hardware, it can sometimes sound interesting.
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that reminded me I haven't done DS Errors on my streams :D Totally forgot about this little gem
What other console would you like to see next?
Just a little advice about the game card error: This r4 card have no bios inside or the r4 card was corrupted. This error is not from any ds included. Only the r4 cards
really? aw I didn't know that, I thought that his card was corrupted or something because it all made sense to me... I thought that is why it displayed that error icon, because the needed data was not readable or something like that. My bad 😬
it's called a time bomb and you just have to install a new r4 firmware to fix it
I missed these error videos. I absolutely love them for some reason
Reading into errors and stuff, and knowing what causes them makes me happy
Well, both that and terrified. Still hate the BSoD lol
Same, something about them is so interesting. I also for some reason love the errors that occur when the console has a serious problem or the console is killed
@@minimongus Exactly! The more serious it is, the more interesting it is! 😁
Colored screen is NOT an error
Its actually for determining your Firmware version
It is an error, it just determines firmware version through the error.
@@nintendomario007 because of v1 just straight up crashing and every other version having a unique color. i think it was intentional

Finally!
Edit: I love how at 2:28, there's a bit of the Wii and Wii U's death sound
Dude the Nintendo DS WiFi searching tune is such a bop lowkey.
Dsi didn't expect this video.
P.S. the title should say DS/DSi/3DS
also some errors are from flash carts which arent technically originating from the ds but from the cartridge/game.
Just as I thought he was done with this series, he actually came back to it! Glad to see it again and i hope you continue making it in the future!
I got the sound of death once when I was bored playing a gba game on my ds so I decided to see if something funny would happen if I wiggled the cartridge. The sound started to appear, leaving the game with no sound, and a few seconds later, the game also froze
I'm not sure if "the sound of death" happens anywhere outside gba mode. As far as I know, it occurs when you take out the cartridge while the game is playing, and the ds is still trying to read data, so it ends up sending out garbage.
I did it once when I was little playing frogger on the ds gba..scared the ever living hell outta me 😭
It does that when you get to most of the ratings screens in Rhythm Tengoku/Rhythm Heaven Silver's debug menu due to a missing code error. It is definitely more of a GBA thing. Though, I guess, to be fair, that does inherently make it a DS thing too, since the DS doesn't prevent it from happening with its GBA native compatibility.
The firmware expired error is actually from the r4 cards. For some reason, you have to dial the DS back to the year 2000 to get proper functionality of the card. It has happened to me SEVERAL TIMES and I think I even destroyed an r4 card because I thought it had simply just broken down!
Most of these errors seems to be errors that are from random R4 cards, not with the console itself. Ex. The DS Lite didn't even have an SD card slot, so an SD/TF card error would've been... strange... to say the least. The error at 1:40 is likely an R4 Time Bomb. Some R4 cards have time bombs that render the cartridge useless if the console's date goes beyond a certain range (in order to make money on more R4 cards). R4 Cards with a bomberman icon are well known time bomb carts.
5:31 Translation: Connection problem
You already know it is a good day when BK4 makes an error video.
3:55
This error can also be done on the dsi by putting the memory pit on an SD with nothing to boot but simply turning off and removing the SD fixes it
can confirm, I have a dsi with memory pit and I installed it wrong once
I've got some things to say
- the SD card and outdated firmware errors happen only with R4 cards and they are errors coded in the cartridge itself, not in the console.
- The outdated firmware error happens not because something is broken in the cartridge's files, but because the R4 cards have an expiration date. After reaching it, that error will appear every time you try to use it, but that can be fixed just by changing the console's date to any time before that, so there's no corrupt system files or anything broken in this error
- 0:49 The DS doesn't have any SD card slot, so I'm guessing we are going back to R4 cards. The first example shown shows the normal boot up and then the error happens, which I assume that console had the auto-play feature activated (that feature launches the game without going through the menu or pressing any button, only showing the classic intro of the console before launching the game, which is basically what happened here) so that error doesn't affect the console itself in any way.
- 5:50 i can understand showing some DSi errors because some of the system's UI and errors match the DS, but why the 3DS
The crash sound can also happen on GBAs. To make it happen, take the cartridge halfway out mid-game. The sound varies depending on the game.
Get all games, you succesfully made a new game, Sound of death simulator
Can also do it on some emulators too, I know mGBA has the ability to simulate removing the cartridge. Now I don't know why you would want to do that, but you can.
Another easy freeze, well at least for me when using a DS, either just go on the home menu then eject the cartridge, or load the game and take the cartridge out when the game is about to boot
This is my favorite series! Thanks for uploading this, BK4!
The firmware error actually is cartridge based, if you revert back your nds date and time of a few years it will work.
I think it's caused by the r4 cartridge firmware being obsolete, not at all by the console.
4:53 OH HELL NAH 💀💀
I think the error noise also happens on an actual gba, ive had that too when i took out a cartridge. it was kinda spooky xd
lovely to see these error videos again, and the ending earrapes are back too! :D my soul died
I was playing my ds lite as a kid once and got mad at the game and threw the whole machine as hard as i could on a hardwood floor and now to this day my top screen is permanently red but still playable
2:31 - I can easily do that too, it's caused by a GBA cartridge being damaged, but readable, or if its jolted, its not just a DS error, the GBA also has the error, and it'd also more of a crash than an error
6:32
I'm scared to death!!!💀💀💀
For the 3DS errors video, the "black screen" one actually does have fixes. The most common one is taking the SD card out, but that can mess up the slot after a while
5:00 that beat is pretty funky tho
The menu error was the funniest one of all
1:42 that is a DS flashcart error, not a console error
4:43 it's a GBA game crash
5:42 that's a 3ds error
I thought the 3rd was 3DS! I've played 3DS much more than DS and recognised the UI immediately! Seemed like 3DS
2:27 when you hear that you know that death is near
no doubt it scares me 100%
I recently learned that sometimes the noises and colored screens are to tell you what kind of error is (especially with the hardware errors) so they're easier to detect. I wonder if some of these noises are for that too
PS: No offense but I absolutely hate you for that ending. I actually got jumpscared by the damn lobster
you're missing the Bootrom Errors, which as far as I know, the DSi displays nothing but an error code on a black screen, for example 0000FEFE correlates to the bootloader being corrupted or modified.
The 3DS displays a blue screen with "Bootrom 8046" followed by some info in hexadecimal. Anyways, it means the bootloader of the 3DS is corrupt or you're performing a hardmod which during NAND dumping and writing this screen displays.
@@xXxmlg_vacxXx I remember when gateway released that malicious update. Insane how they didn't think it would somehow brick on their own genuine carts
Every other error: eerie screen or sound
Sound of death: *receipt printer noises*
As some would have said here, the "Firmware Expired" on R4 cards is a case of planned obsolescence. They are made like that, so once a certain date comes by on whichever DS system you use it on, be it the first DS right up to a 2DSXL/New 3DSXL, that will come up. It can work just fine still (like with one i got some years ago), just set the time back to a date before that happens, and it works fine. Nasty little tactic that timebomb is, just to make you buy more. But you don't need to, as stated it will function just fine as long as you set the date back enough.
5:08 THE GLITCH (it sound like the computer is have dying and pain )
please stop jumpscaring me
im so glad ur doing error videos again
Yay, you made another error videos, I luv these
4:46 this sound IS perfect for a horror game
the sound of death is easy to reproduce if you have a ds game and a 3ds, i tried it multiple time on multiple games, and the one that yield the most result (93%) is resident evil deadly silence when you charge a room and just go see a zombie in another room
Yay back at it with the errors!
These videos are like microwaved dinners. They're not good and I probably shouldn't be eating them, but they're great in the moment.
Pictochat one can be more colors. If you have firmware v1 its black, v2 is a navy blue, green is v3, yellow is v4, pink is v5, green and pink seem to be the most common although mine does blue
As always, awesome. You explained how to obtain it as always👍
i was waiting for this and it actually came out!
The console sound crash happens quite commonly if you play version 1 of super mario 64 DS. No clue why but the same thing happens if you have the super waluigi 64 DS romhack, it will sometimes make that noise.
LET'S GOOOO!!!! THE SERIES IS BACK!!!!!!
Most SoD: Absolutely terrifying.
DS SoD: I'm a printer. *Makes Printer noises*
It's good to see you back !
4:00 I love how he calls it "pinky pinkness".
The sound of death can be caused from taking the cartridge out of the system but not everytime
The legend is back
The broken sound can be replaced so easily all you have to do is take the game boy game out after it shows the game boy logo and boom so it’s level/difficulty is super easy
Ah yes, the DS and DSlite... The consoles that crashed upon themselves once you looked at them funny
@@tylern6420 take out the cartridge while on the main screen. it will freeze

You should redo all of your errors videos! This one is so well explained with a ton of cool errors as well! I'm pretty sure in your old videos you can arrange and add a few more errors!
the jumpscare at the end got me lmao
The pink screen of death kept happened on my ds lite, then it stopped working entirely a month later. It wasn't the one on pictochat, It just kept happening when I booted up games and on pictochat, and it would completely freeze up and the sound that was playong would loop.
What did you do right before it stopped working? r0mloader.nds or t****n.nds?
I think 2:19 was a loading corrupt or a game unknown when it tried to run a gba game or it could be a relation to 4:43?
the sound of death sounds like a damn printer 💀
Game cartridge errors can be cartridge specific! I've seen ones for Kirby Super Star Ultra & for Kirby Squeak Squad, though I haven't seen them documented anywhere, which is a shame.
Nice video, but some of these are obviously not official as per the other comments state. It may also pay to double check some of the "caused by" as the Nintendo DS doesn't have a CMOS battery. AFAIK the RTC was powered by the console battery itself. If flat battery = clock reset.
I'm pretty sure most of these errors are from modded systems and/or R4 Carts.
THE MASTER RETURNED WHEN WE NEEDED HIM MOST
RIGHT ON MY BIRTHDAY TYSM
4:20 came from 2004
the game card error is actually an error for r4 flash cards when the firmware is corrupted or missing
the sd/tf error is the same thing but can also mean a corrupted sd card or invalid/unreadable file system
the firmware expired error is a timebomb r4 clone manufactures put in their r4 cards to make you buy another one
none of those errors are official from nintendo these are for r4 flash cards and r4 flash card clones
the sound of death happens when you remove a gba cart whilst its playing. it happens on a gba too so not really a ds error
the coloured screen of death on pictochat isn't an error but rather a hidden firmware version check where different colours can mean different firmware versions the pink screen is found on ds lites whereas the green screen is found on launch ds systems the last one of the coloured screen of death shown in the video is another example of that gba error seen in the sound of death
the error code error is the only nintendo official ds error in the whole video with others not being errors or not being errors for the ds system (in the sense of one being a gba error with the other errors being for r4 flash cards and r4 flash card clones)
HES BACK AT THE ERROR VIDS LETS GOO
I missed these videos
What about the ever so rare NAND errors? I think it was a blue screen but some of the 3DS systems had them when the NAND chip was loose or bad and would usually result in a blue screen with some addresses
I just remembered this channel and I love it
gba crash sound hits hard imo
The first one I can replicate without a broken dirty or moded cartridge 😂 that’s just how F,ed up my dsi is
3:16 Can confirm, does not work on DSi
This is so nostalgic I feel like I've been through at least three of those errors and I was horrified
The legend returned when we really needed him.
Dude, the first 3 errors aren't ACTUAL DS/DSi errors, they're errors from either flashcarts (e.g. R4) OR from Homebrew. (like that SD/TF card error) The DSi/DS's firmware can't expire, but back in the day of flashcarts, THOSE had firmware that'd expire after a certain date. It was known as timebombing. Do you even have a DSi or DS of your own, not counting the Nintendo 3DS/2DS Family systems?
2:52 🤣 lol
You came back to errors!
There's a glitch in super scribblenauts where if you spawn mini tornados and put them inside each other until you reach the limit, you can load the level and then jump into the tornadoes. That used to crash my system.
Wait a minute… the Sound of Death is a thing? I’ve had it happen multiple times in my childhood.
The series is back!
3:32 actually, the csod in pictochat depends on the firmware of the ds. if it is a ds lite, its always pink.
new error video. this suprised me when i saw it in the home page
I lost you for a while but thanks to recommended and pure luck I have found you again
About the Pictochat error is actually a hidden firmware version access.
A feature that, once you choose a room, by retiring the cartridge, depending of the color of the screen, it indicates the console firmware.
What color ?
Wait so you can't get the colored picochat screen of death if you don't mod your DS :(
@SpriteXP! You dont need to mod your ds
@@SpriteXP404 You don't need to mod your DS
