Yes indeed! Had they not made people get too used to Michael Myers by making a Part 2 about him. Had they went with the anthology idea right away people probably would received and respected the anthology idea. To say the least even if they just had named it Halloween: Season of the Witch instead of Halloween 3: Season of the Witch people probably would've understood the Halloween Anthology series amd would've received it well, but all because of Halloween 2 is the reason why people did not receive Halloween 3 Season of the Witch well and gave it poor ratings. Also what made people not receive this movie well is also them looking at the other 2 Iconic horror villains Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, they also started asking why Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees can have many sequels and not Michael Myers, which was also another reason why they had no choice but to bring the Michael Myers character back into the Halloween Franchise and still in today's day Michael Myers is a big hit under the Halloween name just like Freddy is in the Nightmare on Elm Street Franchise and Jason is in the Friday the 13th Franchise.

I've always loved Halloween III. I'm so glad it's FINALLY getting the love it truly deserves. The fact it was released on my birthday only makes it that much more special to me. It broke so many rules, I wish horror today took risks like that. By the way, the "Witch" of the title is Cochran...sort of like a 20th Century Druid gone insane.
Dude I love you. Started watching the "What happened to PG-13" almost a month ago, and Now I've been consistently watching stuff you pull. You have not only impeccable taste, but the videos are masterfully produced.
Halloween should've been an anthology series, in fact, I like the idea of having Halloween as an anthology series, still have Halloween setting, but with different plot, different characters and different themes. The Michael Myers story will be strictly the original and II, while the third and later films will have completely different plot, characters, and theme, but no, fans can't accept change and Halloween III flopped, fans took a dump on this film and demanded Michael Myers back. And afterwards, the Halloween films got stale.
***** Friday the 13th Part 5 sucked too but not because Jason wasn't in it. The characters were all annoying as all hell. It depends. Some movies, like Jurassic World or Halloween 4 weren't groundbreaking but they were entertaining. Being "new" doesn't necessarily make something better or even good.
+ninjaf00t I would never say that Halloween 3 is perfect - But what it did it did well... BUT - and its a big but... When Michael Myers was all that sold the franchise, that was bad news... And I am sorry but the same goes for Friday the 13th... I loved the movies at first - but the constant recurring Jason was in the end a joke! The only reason we all carried on watching was not actually for Jason, but to see how ridiculous they could get with the kills and how they were going to bring him back to life again in a more insane way... I would even go so far as to say that we have Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger to blame for the rumours of an 8TH SAW MOVIE!!!! Its become an ingrained fixation and its bad news... I like Rob Zombies Halloween and Halloween II - It will never be as good as the original but he has managed to do something that means there is possibility of a sequel - The twisted ending of Halloween II in his remake leaves it possible for someone else to become as deranged as him... So rather than trying to come up with ridiculous ways for him to cheat death... He is replaced... That actually works better than a constant "Ressurection"... Its cliche, Its dull and its ruining movies!!! Don't get me wrong - I am not slagging of FT13TH or Halloween - I love them, but you have to admit that they are pretty f**king ridiculous really...
That was one of the best, most interesting, tightly edited and well documented pieces I have ever seen. I also learned a few things I never knew before, such as Jamie Lee Curtis being the curfew announcer in the film. Really enjoyed watching this, thanks. Totally under-rated film.
I can’t believe it took me till last night to see this movie, it (to me), is the best Halloween. The timing of that advertisement song was so dark and other worldly almost tribal, fucking GENIUS!
I love this movie... because it IS so different. It might not have much (nothing) to do with the other Halloween movies, but it still is a good 80's horror movie in my opinion.
This movie is extremely underrated. I was marathoning the Halloween movies and when it got to this one for the first time, I loved it. Good video, keep up the good work! Big fan of your exploring series.
They used to show this movie alot on Wgn channel 9 in Chicago.... I remember being weirded out that it was called Halloween III despite that it wasnt Michael Myers related. But as soon as I saw the first and second kill (the woman in the motel picking at the chip)...I was creeped out. This movie WORKS and I am glad that today its getting more attention. I recently saw a horror fan's car with a silver shamrock bumper sticker. I was like YEAH !!!!!
When it comes to the Halloween films, I watch the first, second and H20. I ignore 4, 5, 6 and Resurrection. Season of the Witch on the other hand is a stand alone film that has nothing to do with the Halloween franchise. I'm happy to see the film has found it's audience after all these years!
Halloween 3 is sort of like a full length movie version of an episode of Tales From The Crypt.Good story, acting, and the ending is just like Amazing Spider-Man issue 121 "The Night Gwen Stacy Died"in the sense that the hero doesn't win in a rare time.Evil seems to triumph.
Being 33 now, I remember seeing this YEARS ago as a kid. I mostly forgot the plot but did remember it being really creepy. Now about a year ago when Scream Factory (Shout Factory) re-released the movie on blu-ray I was eccstatic to pick it up, and finally saw it again and LOVED IT! I cant believe there are still ppl bashing it; they seriously need to get a life.
I discovered your channel the other day and I've been pouring over your backlog like crazy. You might be my favorite UA-cam channel right there with Every Frame a Painting. Also, nice shoutout to Samhain, the band.
Totally underrated classic. Unfairly judged because of no Michael Myers. If you open your mind watching this it really does make for a scary concept. The thought that someone evil could emilinate you via your TV screen, using ancient mystical powers. Hearing in the news this week that new technology TV sets can actually listen to your conversations. This concept is now well set to get a big budget remake to cash in on people's fears of technologies power to get into your home without you realising it. The possibilities with today's mobile phones, laptops and tablets are endless to bring this story up to date. One of the great cult classics
mathmoslover76 Yes, I agree this movie should be remade. With all the technology taking over our lives it is a perfect time for Halloween 3 again. The sky's the limit on what they could do....The Halloween 3 remake IS up next. Do we really need another Michael Myers movie anyway? I mean how many more times can they flog that horse? Carpenter should come back and make it and maybe we can get the anthologies like he originally planned...
Great review, ive always loved this film , this was soo hard to find or rent out back in the late 80's and althrough the 90's, it would appear on tv , but even that was rare.
I jjust watched "Halloween III" and I must say, the term "good bad film" fits it perfectly. It's low-budget and tacky at times, but the plot, if not believable, is actually pretty creepy. There's also a a bit of social commentary on consumerism (but again, hard to read too much into this.) Performances are solid, pacing is good and the soundtrack is pretty cool. Having the "Halloween" name was this movie's fatal flaw, because if you're expecting a Michael Myers slasher you're going to be pretty f'ing disappointed.
Even as a kid, it was refreshing to see Halloween go in a new direction. Michael Myers has NEVER been scary after the 1st, and the "series" had no business following the footsteps of its imitators. The score is some of Carpenter's coolest synth work (pre-Lost Themes 1&2). Tom Atkins is the best character ever to be associated with the franchise and it sucks to think how many awesome stand-alone films we could've had by now.
I respect the hell out of what they were trying to do with this. Going with a "we're fucked" ending was fantastic. Also, the tune is catchy as all hell.
great film but ellie being made into a robot that fast is impossible and no point still love the film also should have been cut out that bad effect of dans face melting away would have kept the long view and better have stonehenge fall on him
@@girlyknight8817 great film flaws and all saw it back twice in 1982 still love it still dont like the ellie switch to fast and pointless just to have some more shocks at the end
Love a good downer ending. I remember being freaked out by this one when I was kid - it's one of those things that stays with you. I wish people were more open to them. i really liked the ending Frank Darabont came up with for The Mist (something King's story never actually resolves) but so many people just can't seem to cope with a movie that doesn't have a happy ending.
it was always real ...all prepared since more than 133 years ...H3 ...the crowning jew-el in fr33masonic illuminati predictive programming movies ...3 masks , yes thats right ...3 masks ....taking route 33 to Santa Mira (a 33 in gematria) , ..Conal Cochran ...CC/33...Carlos Castaneda ...cc /33....3 respt. 33 ...the most important number in freemasonry ...etc . I could write 33 books ab out H3 , but posting here anything makes no sense . Either its deleted , shadowbanned , or ridiculed . Even in the year 2020 . So...u all wear ur masks , get chipped , depopulated...)
But the style and theme and homage is Halloween through and through! Like when the shady guys are watching people in the foreground of shots or driving by in cars at slow speed. Masks, the music, a Dr. going around investigating and trying to convince people of things. It is a Halloween movie and a good one. It should not be considered a black sheep.
Excellent video. These are as good as DVD extras -- if not better ! Commentaries are fun, but you give an hour and a half's worth of info in less than 15 minutes, plus interesting opinions on how poorly received or forgotten movies hold up after a decade or two. Bravo !
I was hoping you would do this at some point, good choice. Solid review all around and I agree with your final decision, this is a good horror flick. Learned some new things I never knew either, really need the new DVD!
I LOVE this film! I think it's a creepy classic, even without Michael Myers. I'm very thankful that people have grown to appreciate it as time went on.
I saw Halloween and Halloween 2 between 1999 and 2001, then I saw Halloween 3 on TV in 2001 or in 2002... I hate sequels especially on horror movies (with the exception of the Freddy Krueger saga) but I liked Halloween 2 so I gave it a try, I didn't know what to expect. And I was blasted away! The idea behind this movie is great! The main theme of the Halloween saga is Halloween not Myers so it's a way to keep a movie franchise fresh and interesting everytime, sadly I discovered that most of people were outraged and Halloween 4 was just another Myers sequel. I love so much this movie, it got more Stephen King feelin' than other dull adaption of his great books, and I can't stop thinkin' about this eerie tale.
Love H3 - no Michael Myers if it had been a big hit? Is that a bad thing? I love the dark oppressive atmosphere of H3 and scared the crap out of me as a kid lol
Wow awesome job goodbadflicks. I love this movie...always have. Saw it as a double feature with The Thing when I was 11 at the drive in. The music...a mix of eerie and desolate....I can't get enough of it. I actually did my workout this morning (it's october 31st) with this soundtrack. So good!! thanks for that fantastic video!!
i'm only replying here so future readers of this comment are warned - this film is absolutely terrible. just a crap film, let alone in the horror genre. and what the hell is it doing as a halloween sequel? has nothing to do with it. i kinda thought h3 might have been some shit that had no name so the studio called it halloween 3 so they could break even at the box office (even if it was shit and you tell someone its halloween the fans will always want to see for themselves so.... ) fyi do not pay a single penny for this film and save the 2hrs of your life for something worth while (make a cake, write a letter to your family or even read a book!)
The film isn't hated because of it's originality, it's hated because the marketing team chose to trick people into seeing it by acting like it was a follow-up to the previous movies rather than it's own thing.
It bums me out that one could consider this a bad film. It was a great movie and I think it's only flaw is that it defied audience expectation for more Michael Myers.
Completely agree. When I was younger, it was that weird Halloween movie without Myers. But revisiting it years later, I've come to really like this film. My friend recommended your channel & I'm glad he did. Great videos!
Yeah, if video man likes a movie, he makes an "Exploring" video. If he regrettably likes a movie, he makes a "GoodBadFlicks" trademark stolen by the Amazing Atheist video. I just learned this yesterday because I've never heard of youtube.
Along with the classic original this is my favourite of the series. I've always enjoyed it from the first time I saw it back in the late 80s early 90s.
Great video - you nailed it...and I learned a few new tidbits. One highlight to mention - the scene where Cochran has Challis tied to the chair, with the mask on, in front of the television: the "monologue" Cochran gives combined with the original Halloween being shown on the television, in particular, the timing of the music of the original movie, which can be heard on that television, is freaking brilliant. You could probably make a video dedicated to that scene alone.
this movie fucking rocks, a perfect Halloween setting film and even without John directing it FELT like a Carpenter film, more so than 4 etc.. people who hate on this just because of no myers are insane.
I always enjoyed this film and believe if was a stand alone film it be a ton more appropriated or just image if they turned who ever was wearing mask instead of magically turn into snakes and spiders but made them turn into killers and mike was wearing a silver shamrock mask as a child.
I saw Halloween 3 for the first time 6-7 years ago and I didn't think much of it, but I'd much rather have seen unique and different Halloween films than more of the same movie over and over again. Myer's story would have been best ended at part 2.
+Jon Knight Seem to be seeing many comments that echo my own feelings... LOL! I saw SotW about 7 years ago too... I had never really bothered with Halloween at all much until then, and that Silver Shamrock Theme kept me awake for DAYS!!! Its a good one of movie... I am glad to see that there sensible people like yourself here
Loved it!! And thank you for hitting all the notes I been telling people for two or three years now. I love it now more than ever. I remember watching this when I was eight and thinking to myself where is Myers?!?!? Of course this was when internet didnt show the facts of this movie and its production and its intentions...until probably the last couple of years and then it got a lot more respect, which it deserves!!!
They should bring balance back to the Halloween series, by making another Halloween centered horror film from different writers and directors. Maybe they weren't ready for it back then, but I think now it might work. I believe they can up with something fresh and original and holiday centered as this was.
That Carpenter soundtrack is worth the price of admission in itself.
Agreed, possibly the absolute best horror score of all time.

+Antonio Gonzalez Thanks so much! :)
Hipsters and the dude word lol, but yeah, I agree.
@@GoodBadFlicks 3 more months to Halloween...
+Norman Bates Agreed completely.
+Norman Bates Halloween III flopped mostly because it sucked.
+ninjaf00t Exactly. The ridiculous robots and the annoying music ruined it for me.
LordHeath1972 thanks!
Shes also the operator voice on the phone
Good review. Sidenote: Jamie Lee Curtis was also the voice of the phone operator.
and the one on the intercom telling people that the 6 PM curfew has begun.
Joshua Ragland that was in the video dummy
Chuck Schick I commented that before watching the whole thing.
this was not a review it was imdb facts the video
Sidenote...jamie Lee Curtis was also the voice on Escape from New York.
I thought this movie was scarier than the rest of the Halloweens! Original and damn creepy!
Shane Mulvey how lmao
First saw this movie in 1994. I've always loved this film for its unique style. I revisit this one every now and then. Saw this past Friday :)
Been years but that Intro is still stellar. Great work.
Thanks! This intro was one of my favorites
Best Halloween stand alone movie. Very underrated, and that is just sad.
Tom Atkins is such an underrated actor. Loved seeing him in the Bloody Valentine remake which holy shit was actually a good remake Imo
+The Infomaniac Someone else who views 3 like I do... :)
I've liked it since the 80's.
+Aaron Alvarez Thank you! Always happy to have someone new on board :)
Halloween 3 is and always will be one of the best horror films ever made. I love this film so much
One more day 'til Halloween, Halloween, Halloween. One more day 'til Halloween. Silver Shamrock!
262 more days 'til Halloween, Halloween, Halloween. 262 more days 'til Halloween. Silver Shamrock! :,(
It's a great flick. I too was disappointed at the time, but it's become a favorite over the years.
Great review, ive always loved this film , this was soo hard to find or rent out back in the late 80's and althrough the 90's, it would appear on tv , but even that was rare.
Three is low-key my favorite one in the series and I’m glad other people realize how good it is
I jjust watched "Halloween III" and I must say, the term "good bad film" fits it perfectly.
Far better than the Halloween franchise. And the creepy factor was off the charts.
Watching this video again for Halloween. I've now got the Blu-Ray of Halloween 3 and now I'm a big fan.
:)
the goddamn soundtrack to this movie is like coming 3 times at once, just fucking amazing. :)
Everything John touched before 1990 turned to pure gold!
Hell yeah!
***** you're forgetting in the mouth of madness .
that was pretty damn good!
One of my favorite movies of all time.
I'm a new fan here...can't wait to binge watch your back-catalogue. Well done!
I did for 3 days lol.
This is still the best Halloween III video on UA-cam.
Love this film!! Absolute classic and one of the best in the franchise.
Agreed! :D Halloween H20 and Halloween III are my top 2 favorite movies of the franchise.
Thanks for the review! Was great, very imformative, i think this might possibly be one of the best of the franchise, it stands on its own positively.
Thanks for watching!
The Silver Shamrock song sounds like the Dog Ending credit song in Silent Hill 2.
+Egores House That's what I said, but the other way around. XD
This is actually my favorite Halloween film, and I'm even going as Little Buddy for Halloween this year!
classic! I remeber watching this movie as a kid. truly unique and very entertaining.
Love Atkins in “night of the creeps!” In this movie too he was awesome
I love this movie. I wish they would have gone the anthology route.
great film but ellie being made into a robot that fast is impossible and no point still love the film also should have been cut out that bad effect of dans face melting away would have kept the long view and better have stonehenge fall on him
I'll agree on anthology route
@@girlyknight8817 great film flaws and all saw it back twice in 1982 still love it still dont like the ellie switch to fast and pointless just to have some more shocks at the end
@@gkroll8467 She had been asking around about her father, they were aware of her and had plenty of time to make a replacant of her.

I think Halloween 3: Season of the Witch is underrated. It's a good horror film. Very informative video.
3:27 has to be the scariest Halloween mask ever...
1982: Witchcraft meets the computer age
2020: Witchcraft meets the internet age. Only this time - it's real.
it was always real ...all prepared since more than 133 years ...H3 ...the crowning jew-el in fr33masonic illuminati predictive programming movies ...3 masks , yes thats right ...3 masks ....taking route 33 to Santa Mira (a 33 in gematria) , ..Conal Cochran ...CC/33...Carlos Castaneda ...cc /33....3 respt. 33 ...the most important number in freemasonry ...etc . I could write 33 books ab
out H3 , but posting here anything makes no sense . Either its deleted , shadowbanned , or ridiculed . Even in the year 2020 . So...u all wear ur masks , get chipped , depopulated...)
This is my favorite Halloween actually
They should have just called this movie 'Season of the Witch' and left it at that.
TheTallMan35 Well there isn't really a witch, just a one line reference to witchcraft, so I guess it should just be called "Season".
Type40Tardis Cochran is the witch
leozam Well yeah, but it's never really made explicitly clear.
They tried to.
Excellent video. These are as good as DVD extras -- if not better ! Commentaries are fun, but you give an hour and a half's worth of info in less than 15 minutes, plus interesting opinions on how poorly received or forgotten movies hold up after a decade or two. Bravo !
I love Halloween 3 it's actually a good movie.
It’s an actual genius of a movie which got a bad rap just cuz Mikey wasn’t in it. Watch it as a stand-alone story and it’s definitely one-of-a-kind.
I was hoping you would do this at some point, good choice. Solid review all around and I agree with your final decision, this is a good horror flick.
Learned some new things I never knew either, really need the new DVD!
Thanks! :)
Far better than will ever be acknowledged
Love H3 - no Michael Myers if it had been a big hit? Is that a bad thing? I love the dark oppressive atmosphere of H3 and scared the crap out of me as a kid lol
Wow awesome job goodbadflicks. I love this movie...always have. Saw it as a double feature with The Thing when I was 11 at the drive in. The music...a mix of eerie and desolate....I can't get enough of it. I actually did my workout this morning (it's october 31st) with this soundtrack. So good!! thanks for that fantastic video!!
This is an awesome film! It gets so much hate because it's an original idea
I know,right?
i'm only replying here so future readers of this comment are warned - this film is absolutely terrible. just a crap film, let alone in the horror genre. and what the hell is it doing as a halloween sequel? has nothing to do with it. i kinda thought h3 might have been some shit that had no name so the studio called it halloween 3 so they could break even at the box office (even if it was shit and you tell someone its halloween the fans will always want to see for themselves so.... ) fyi do not pay a single penny for this film and save the 2hrs of your life for something worth while (make a cake, write a letter to your family or even read a book!)
guitarHero1885 have you even watched the video above??!
I don't need your negative shit bring my energy down. Watch yourself man
k
The film isn't hated because of it's originality, it's hated because the marketing team chose to trick people into seeing it by acting like it was a follow-up to the previous movies rather than it's own thing.
Damn good movie.I try to watch this every year. Props for covering. Side note, I really dig the" Exploring" format a lot. Keep up the good work man.
Season of the Witch could have worked as it's own movie.
...And could have had its own sequels which puts to rest what was supposed to be the more marketable "Halloween III: "
Now I cant get that silver shamrock song out of my head, 8 more days till halloween halloween 8 more days till halloween silver shamrock.
It bums me out that one could consider this a bad film. It was a great movie and I think it's only flaw is that it defied audience expectation for more Michael Myers.
It thankfully found its audience over the years and doesn't get badmouthed like it did back then.
Completely agree. When I was younger, it was that weird Halloween movie without Myers. But revisiting it years later, I've come to really like this film. My friend recommended your channel & I'm glad he did. Great videos!
Actually, this is a GoodGoodFlick.
It is a good good flick...LOL
I still think Halloween didn't need past Halloween II.
That's what most of these "Exploring ______" videos are.
Yeah, if video man likes a movie, he makes an "Exploring" video. If he regrettably likes a movie, he makes a "GoodBadFlicks" trademark stolen by the Amazing Atheist video. I just learned this yesterday because I've never heard of youtube.
How about a GoodGreatFlick?
I watched this randomly one night with a friend of mine and we both loved it. Though it helped that I already knew all about its history and stuff
Only Halloween movie i have in my collection, love it to death!
Along with the classic original this is my favourite of the series. I've always enjoyed it from the first time I saw it back in the late 80s early 90s.
Your content is great and the effort you put into each video is very appreciated. Hope you continue to grow!
Thank you!
That's a lot of insane people
I always enjoyed this film and believe if was a stand alone film it be a ton more appropriated or just image if they turned who ever was wearing mask instead of magically turn into snakes and spiders but made them turn into killers and mike was wearing a silver shamrock mask as a child.
I so much wish we could have seen what some of those other movies would have been.
someone should ask Carpenter what Halloween 4 was going to be about. perhaps a script or treatment still exists somewhere.
@@nightmaretomb5294 It was supposed to be a ghost story.
I love Halloween III!! It's so criminally underrated!!
Not perfect but it is a good watch, I cannot believe how much hate it gets with people saying it has a stupid story - Yet they all defend Myers Constant Ressurections???
Billy Wildman although now with the remakes in full swing, I think it is past the point where they would bring back the anthology aspect.
My favorite horror movie by far. Loved it since the first time I saw it as a kid... must of been the late 80's I'm guessing. Amazing music too.
