Nobody has ever said 'Happy Halloween' better than Conal Cochran. It's music to my ears.
I know right!
Loved that shit since I was 8yrs old, grew up on horror movie as a kid born in '82
I absolutely love this film, and refuse to apologize for my love of this film.
I may be in the minority, but the Carpenter soundtrack is probably the best in the entire series
Your not alone that’s my favorite Carpenter score
I had to mail order the album from a specialist record shop half the country away at twice the price of a normal album as a USA import back in the day. Well worth it though. Loved the film, so creepy.
Its a must see every halloween!
Far better and more to do with halloween than any of the films after part 6 that is for sure
This movie totally fits into what Carpenter wanted: Sometimes bad stuff happens to innocent people for no reason besides evil
I dunno, it feels less random than Michael Myers indiscriminately killing people he happens to encounter.. Conal Cochran had an actual plan with more intent than Michael. You can't get much more premeditated than mixing magic and technology to make millions of murder masks.
@@glennwelsh9784 I think that falls under "evil".
In retrospect of the entire Halloween timeline since III, they probably should have stuck with their original anthology premise
I never got Michael Myers, honestly. He is just a jerk who runs around and kills people.
Freddy Kruger and Jason Vorhees at least have some backstory and charm to them, but Myers? Na man.
@@wjzav1971 backstories ruin the mystique, freddy kreuger was only interesting in the first one
Was 10 years old when my Dad took me to see this in the theater. Kept telling myself it's just a movie, besides it doesn't happen where I live (Dayton, OH) . . . then the Dayton, OH popped up on the screen.
Heh
Never have understood parents taking kids to stuff like this.
Oh shit I'm from Dayton Ohio too, it was surreal watching this as a 9 year old and seeing my town on the movie screen, lol.😒
Greg Dodson Isn't 10 a little too young for an R-rated movie? (Especially if it's horror?).
@ Not when you were born in the early 70's and grew up throughout the rest of the 70's and 80's
Honestly Halloween 3 is my favourite episode of this franchise, and is a showcase for what the franchise should have been, rather than just another slasher conveyor belt.
Yep
Agreed.
Should have been Halloween 1-3 anthology
Then a film Michael Myers
Or Myers
Or The night after Halloween
Lol episode?
Im on board with the idea that any series with more than 3 films has to have each movie referred to as “episodes” lol the MCU is basically the world’s most expensive TV series
Tom Atkins is the Burt Reynolds of the horror genre. Always cool and always badass.
Rockin the beer gut and slayin the babes!
Too bad he couldn't save the kids of America from Cochran.
@@peterkrug2327 😂
@@peterkrug2327 lord knows he tried.
Yeah I like pretty much all of his 80’s horror movies!
I perform Conal Cochran's Halloween monologue everytime someone gushes over Pumpkin spice being back in season. It creeps them out every time and I love it.
Wow are you single...😆
Wow are you gay? Asking for a friend…
"He's drilling a hole in her head, because she hasn't seen the Silver Shamrock commercial enough to do it herself."
I'm in tears, thank you, Cinema Snob.
Was it really THAT funny though?
This movie is a lot better than a lot of people give it credit for. The lack of Michael Myers is actually an improvement. Especially considering what we'd get later on.
After 8 (going on 10) repetitive Myers sequels, remakes, and reboots, we can look back at Season of the Witch in a more appreciative light for its attempt at doing something different.
They wanted to try something different and some people bash things for it but give it a decade or two and some youtube channel will bring it to light that it's not bad at all just misunderstood
I do wish that it were set in that universe if only so that we could see Haddonfield among the montage of cities across America, but admittedly that would mess up the timeline even more since, you know, nearly every kid on the continent seemingly died, so I guess it's not a big deal.
I think it might have gone over better if they hadn't put the III in the title.
And it really is a shame. I'd have liked to see a Carpenter produced Halloween anthology franchise.
@@ChildOfChaos07 I think so too because after two successful Halloween movies where Michael Myers was the bad guy, most people would expect to go into a horror movie called Halloween and expect a movie about people being chased down by Michael Myers. If this movie was just called Season of the Witch and was its own thing instead of being attached to the Halloween franchise it would have probably been better received that it actually was.
That movie started the greatest tradition in my life :)
My girlfriend is the kind of person who can't watch a horror flock without having nightmare. I, however, LOVE horror movies on Halloween. One day, 8 years ago, I was trying to convince her to watch something with me, without any luck. I've recently seen the 80's Dan review, and I just proposed that movie, knowing they're was nothing scary in it and that we could drink every time the jingle was heard. I just didn't know it would play 14 times in the movie :P damn, 14 shots (watered down after 2-3) in 2 hours, a lot of laughs, and a new tradition was born!
Now, every Halloween, all friends and I watch terrible horror movie, where nothing is scary, everything is over the top, and we drink :)
It's kind of bittersweet that SpookyFest 2020 will return to its roots this year and only my gf and I will attend...
I've said it for years, if this is just called "Season of the Witch" it gets looked at a lot more fondly.
Honestly, I consider this movie a serious must-watch every year around this time. Right up there with Hocus Pocus, Nightmare before Christmas, and Scooby Doo: Zombie Island.
Quality viewing list.
26 days to Halloween, Halloween, Halloween!
Indeed. Add Trick R Treat to that and boy do you have a list!
@@rufussamsquanch_6547 100% YES. I love that movie!
Mine is basically that but replace hocus pocus with the exorcist lol
One of the most hated and misunderstood movies of all time. Just watch it as a stand-alone movie, forget about Myers. It's a shame they didn't continue the anthology idea, instead, we got the same character over and over again. The film has a great atmosphere and soundtrack, Tom Atkins kicking ass, crazy villain, gore and some bizarre wtf moments. The next film to follow it would be Trick 'r Treat. And yeah...the Silver Shamrock song is annoying. Yeah Myers killed a kid in 2018 but Cochran did it first and more hardcore. You can create new ideas. So far we had Myers and a crazy old man who wants to murder children. You can add more crazy new villains in the town of Haddonfield or just Halloween itself.
@Alexander Scales Arnie: Wrong! *Boom*
Yeah like as a stand alone film, it works. I was a teenager when I saw this, so I was just pissed there was no Michael Myers, lol.
Kill kid? When?
Especially with the scifi horror aspect, and I could definitely see this movie being an inspiration for horror novels.
I just pretend they did by holding up a little title card that says "Halloween IV" every time I watch _The Fog._
Such a shame Ben Tramer never lived to see this one...
But did Ted Hollister get to see it?
@@AngelofMusic04 Yes. And since he saw and liked it in the 80s when it was taboo, it's why he was killed.
And what about Joe Grisly?
@@Jones183 Joe Grisly was transporting Silver Shamrock masks in his truck.
Ben Tramer is weird!
*26 more days till Halloween, Halloween, Halloween. 26 more days till Halloween, SILVER SHAMROCK!*
Noooo! Silver Shamrock killed Good Andy! That jingle is The Devil! :)
CineMasterDamian1939 ugh I hate you
:screams like Uma Thurman in "Nymph()maniac":
They reused the theme in the Willy Wonka remake 👀
Conal Cochran had one of the best villain monologues of the 80s. I love this film.
0:44 I love it when Brad breaks being the Snob and just says how he truly feels about something.
That was my favorite part of Beyond the Valley of the Dolls review. He broke character to talk about how much Roger Ebert influenced movie critics and the venue for movie critique.
On the other hand, I was kinda hoping this would be like his Caligula review, with the Snob being a grouch over something he loves.
It's a good thing that he's been able to broaden the repertoire of jokes, too. You can't just hang shit on films for 1000 episodes. He can be funny without having to hate on something. Some of my favourites are movies he likes, such as the Street Fighter series, James Bond etc.
My favorite break is in the Sleepaway Camp 2 review
@@garyhall7867 I just watched that. When did he break? 🤔
When he takes off his glasses and says No Joke, I need 5 days to sleep before watching this?
This is one of my all time favorite Carpenter movies. It's just so in line with everything I love about a Carpenter movie, the tone, the soundtrack, the unstoppable doom.
I've always liked SOTW. It deserves as much respect as the first two movies.
Same.
Nah
This movie has the first time anyone pronounced Samhain correctly.
Heresy! It _looks_ like it should be pronounced "sam hane" so that's correct! You fancy pants types with your _accuracy_ and _knowledge_ ... Deeeeeee-spicable! ;)
@@munstrumridcully The ye olde Celts were dumb for spelling it dumbly. And they was muh ancestors, even! Why can't words be spelled the way they're pronounced?!
Fooood. 😐
Aside from a few black and white films I have watched but naturally colored films yes sir I agree
What's worst, is that they went back to mispronouncing Samhain in Halloween 6. I can forgive it in H2, but by the time H6 came along they should have known better
At last! He's doing the third!
He needs to reupload Halloween II 1981 review
Yes!
And re-review Friday 3
Night of the Demons one of my guilty pleasures.
Anything with a Bauhaus breakdance is the best thing.
One of the greatest movies ever
That "Silver Shamrock" song somehow became my new thing to list too.
I have the full song added to my list for my first “Goldie” Halloween special called “The Arrival of the Scary Logos” where it can hack into Twiki’s Commodore 64 computer.
@@Musicradio77Network Good for you.
This is one of my favorite movies and my favorite Halloween franchise movie
I lament that we lost a potential Halloween anthology series with a different spooky legend at the heart of each film. Instead we ended up with pretty much another Jason clone...which is so weird since the first film influenced that series.
in a sense, much like how this is the black sheep of the halloween franchise, i feel part 5 was the black sheep to friday the 13th.
in the least, i can say i like part 6 since there's some closure to the reoccurring character of the previous two films. but after that, kinda threw logic out the window.
Yeah it really does suck but I can see why people at the time thought it was off to just now decided to make it an anthology when you just made 2 films revolving around the same character (at least Friday the 13th had some leeway in wanting to do anthology with it’s first 2, the mother as the killer and then the dead son coming back for revenge is separate enough) still sucks not knowing what could have been
Im torn cuz I love Halloween 4 cuz it was the first Halloween I’ve ever seen and I love the sets, the atmosphere and the total 80s cast. BUT an anthology series based on Halloween released every year on Halloween would have been amazing. I can’t believe no one has done this since. Like fuck someone should just do it now, there’s barely any good movies coming out anyway lol
I'm such a huge John Carpenter fan. This is actually one of my favorites just because of how ominous and desolate it makes you feel. Also it has another legendary Carpenter synth soundtrack to go with it.
Waaaaaait, wait wait wait....Dick Warlock? Is that...is that an actual name?
Sweet.
Pretty sure that's the origin of that stupid "wood wizard" line from the _Friday the 13th_ remake.
The true master of pelvic sorcery.
Fucking epic name
"Irish version of the Nightmare before Christmas plot", dude the Irish ***INVENTED*** Trick or Treat. That's why Silver Shamrock knew how to market it so well.
Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so glad to get this one!! The series is complete! Now if only we could keep a Halloween II up
I remember Halloween 4 was ment to be an different story tieing into III.
The story was going to go back to Haddonfield from Halloween 1/2 and after the Shamrock sacrifice incident, Halloween was pretty much disregarded as an memorial day and masks were pretty much banned from stores across the country along with Silver Shamrock being burned to the ground, and the US delt with an locus infestation. The story was going to follow Laurie as she investigates more into Micheal years after the attacks. Loomis was gonna return as well but voice only, and the movie was ment to be more story on Micheal's past and character rather then just being another slasher thing.
The pitch was rejected and then it was rewrote to what we got now, which was Halloween IV, and it was "Meh".
Alexander Scales agreed.
It makes no sense to tie the stories together when Halloween is literally a movie playing in theaters in the world of Halloween III.
I like the Halloween 4 we got mainly due to some of the sets and the performances of Harris and Pleasance.
@John Howard
I think it was that. I forgot but I wrote what I remembered.
many good ideas were rejected in this franchise sadly
That other Snob was clearly from an alternate dimension that passed through "The Twilight Zone." He had previously been exposed to "The Stuff," and it altered his body chemistry!
Did anyone else get actual real ads after the movie ad? That transition was smooth af I ain't even mad, in fact I'm impressed and let the ads play out of respect lol
I'm so glad there's plenty of people out there that appreciate this move. I absolutely love it!
17:30 That scene may be minor, but it's one of the most historical scenes in horror history. It contains BOTH Halloween villains in the same shot, Michael Myers (Dick Warlock on the left), and Conal Cochran.
The whole reason this movie bombed is because the producers didn't make it CLEAR that they intended to make Halloween an anthology series. Even today it remains underappreciated.
It didn't bomb, it just didn't make a ton of $$$
Still my favorite out of all the Halloween series. Wish they would've kept the anthology going.
Oh yeah the 1980s when a car in the movies could explode for no reason whatsoever.
The 1980s, the Ford Pinto of decades :D
They used to be built of 100% pure explodium; just like this baby right here... *slaps roof of car*
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
And in real life for _almost_ no reason whatsoever.
Some guy *sneezes* and a car across the street explodes. *KABOOM!!!* (Repeat explosion about 19 times, from just as many angles.) 😀
I had the idea with this movie that the people behind it, the writers, owners or whatever, wanted to make the Halloween franchise a bit more like Tales from the Crypt. More horror anthology than just more stories about Michael Myers, each movie having its own theme, monster/villain.
Hell yeah!!! He's finally covering this one!!!
Hey Brad, I just wanted to say thanks for all the years of great work making us laugh. And I'm glad that your doing so well after all this time.🤘
I still wish they'd do anthology Halloween movies again. While I loved the recent continuation, I'd like to see more stuff in the vein of Halloween 3.
Be a perfect time to do it now, since Mikey got Steve Buscemi’d from Fargo in Ends 🧐
I remember seeing this as a kid and being really freaked out by it. Good times.
I think the idea of going in a different direction for the Halloween series is rather interesting and had potential. I’ve honestly never seen any of the other movies in the series other than the fifth and sixth movies. The idea of there being other murders on Halloween itself by different killers is fun and there is so much you could do with such a simple concept.
I'm so happy this movie finally made it onto the official Cinema Snob list. Trying to marathon this series of reviews is so awkward when the third movie is done in a completely different style with a technically different character. At last! The Snob Halloween playlist can be complete!
I agree with Brad, this was the best sequel compared to the later entries where Myers returns (minus H20 and the 2018 film to me at least) They should have said 'screw you haters, we're going to make another one!" because I absolutely love the anthology idea
One of my favorite Halloween movies, I watch this every year.
With a great ending I still enjoy.
6 More Days To Halloween
I love this film, such a an amazing film. One of my go to horror movies for every Halloween
Now all we need is Halloween II put back up.
Edit: It's happened!
I love that The Snob finally gave this a proper review instead of the 80's Dan review I can't find. I get he was trying to promote the show and character at the time, but still feels good to have a Snob review of this movie.
Fun fact: the Silver Shamrock jingle was featured in the song "Starlight" from Helloween's debut album. It was later adapted into a fan chant at Helloween concerts.
Any connection to the Willy Wonka door song in the 2005 film. They sound so similar. 🧐
If it was Halloween II, it would have succeeded as an anthology. It's actually my favorite Halloween movie despite its flaws.
Great show Brad! 🎃
I like to think Michael Myers does exist in the "Halloween III" timeline and the "Halloween" movies were produced by John Milton two decades before he exploited Maureen Prescott's murder with the "Stab" franchise. Because why not?
So in the world of Halloween III, The first two would be like "based on a true story" horror movies. That actually sounds pretty plausible, considering how many Amityville horror movies have been made.
After years of seeing that "HALLOWEEN III" poster on the wall behind you, our eyeballs & ear holes are finally treated to a glorious Cinema Snob review of the actual celluloid! ☘ My "Silver Shamrock" cult and I are eternally grateful! ☘
Always loved this movie . Nice to see a lot of people are coming around on this gem !
When I was younger, I really hated this movie because it lacked Michael Myers, but over the years Ive come around and liked it because it's different
Love this movie.
Agreed. We never gave it a chance
Yeah, it’s pretty good. I think people being more used to anthology horror series like American Horror Story or The Haunting (on Netflix) might have something to do with them being more accepting of something different.
Criminally underrated. I adore this film. Thanks, Brad.
I was 15 when this came out. We were sitting in the theater pissed and not trying to give it a chance. I am glad it's finally being seen as the great film it is. It deserved better than it got on its release by my generation
A "Halloween III" review by the Cinema Snob: the first great thing to come out of 2020. It took over 10 months, but it was well worth the wait. Now all we need is a re-upload of your original "Halloween II" review. 2020 needs more Ben Tramer jokes!
Love this film with its dark foreboding atmosphere and bleak outcome.
#3 is at least my second favorite because there are many aspects I enjoy more than any of the other films. It's a gem to me.
I rented this movie as a kid, I was really drawn in by the cover art, and sorely disappointed by no Michael Myers. Then I watched it, and thought it was super cool!
Finally this movie is getting the praise it deserves. Now if only someone would review Wes Craven's 'Shocker' and praise it just as much I'd be really happy.
I mean at least that movie helped advance the career of that guy from _The X-Files._
So excited you are doing this movie! An awesome standalone film!!
i always use the silver shamrock theme as my ringtone during october
This movie is so underrated and It was so ahead of it's time. It has robot transhumanism, the computer age, surveillance tech, satanic ritual practice, corporate conspiracy, archaeological sites and equatorial energy, etc. Not too mention Cochrane is identical to Lord Jacob Rothschild which is so perfect considering. All with John Carpenter's dope synths in the background. I love this movie
The series Britannia fits into the back story of this movie
At least! Been waiting for this for years ! Can’t wait !
I love this film. I bought the paperback when I saw it for sale at a local store. Loved the artwork and that is what caught my attention. I read the novel before seeing the film (it is pretty close to the film). Back then my folks had a videodisc player (VCRs were coming a little later) and we rented a bunch of videodiscs each week at a nearby local town. I saw Halloween 3 the first time on videodisc. I just love the storyline, the unique kills and effects, the characters in the movie, and of course the amazing score by Carpenter and Howarth. The ending of the film is great too. It is in my top 3 favorite horror films along with Phantasm and Tourist Trap.
How does the paperback end...does it say what happened after the " Big Giveaway"?
@@crispywan It ends similar to the movie for the most part. I think there is a line at the end that says something like a wailing cry was heard all over the land.

Great video! This a favorite of mine. Such a unique movie in so many ways. And one great for Halloween season!
happy to hear you get all nostalgic and please have a happy halloween
The Silver Shamrock jingle is the reason I never watched this movie a second time. Even after 16 years, I remember nothing about the movie itself, but I can still hear the jingle.
It haunts me.
11:00 - ya - that plot hole always bugged me. Most people - outside of collectors - remove the tags on a purchase ... so ... how was this supposed to work exactly? I do love the sound FX used at 22:03 - that's an Atari Home Computer loading from it's (floppy) disk drive. Question - what's that autograph on the poster behind you?
I really appreciate the editing like it's a grindhouse film trailer for your next review. also appreciate the other fun edits like the double feature, and the coffee murder mascot.
Yes! Now I can finally binge watch all the Halloween reviews in ord-
(sees that UA-cam took down Halloween 2's review)
...oh God damn it.
Second best film in the entire franchise
Not ashamed to admit this: I LOVE this movie! It's a Hallowe'en must-see every year for us. I couldn't care less about the repetitive Mikey Machete movies they churned out. THIS one was fun, innovative, and it has a creepiness factor that you can't deny. Tom Atkins & Dan O'Herlihy are perfect. Heck, O'Herlihy is a PERFECT cold-blooded - yet urbane - evil villain. James Bond movie villain perfect. Again, this movie was fresh and different, and remains unique. No wonder it has such a cult (pardon the pun) following. Thanks for doing this one, Brad!
Nice to see this movie getting the appreciation it deserves the last few years.
It's becoming clear that this movie is loved by most everyone. Need a Season of The Witch part 2
I'm 50 nowadays and I got to see this in the theaters way back then. (:
This was the first Halloween movie that I seen. It's still my favorite of all the Halloween movies
Every time Le Snob says "Stonehenge" I hear the song by Spinal Tap in my head.
I loved this movie when I was a kid. Even now, it's my favorite Halloween because it was so different from the norm. So bad it's good and above all, it's enjoyable.
Thanks for this review Brad. Best birthday ever!
Watched it on Halloween and it was awsome I can't that song out of my head ! Great video lol!
Halloween iii is a movie that I believe would've worked REALLY well if the fans and the critics been more kinder to it back in 1982.
I really wish they'd have followed the theme it would have introduced with different characters/stories each year. A Halloween Anthology could have given us some cool stories, especially back in the 80s.
Maybe they would have been kinder if they hadn't called it "Halloween 3"; Halloween 2 might have been able to get away with shifting the focus, but not after two movies about the same thing.
[Comment moved]
Nearly all of Carpenter's movies got shat on. No wonder he's a bitter old bastard, lol.
@@Emulous79 At least nearly everything he's done is seen as classic now.
This video is very nicely timed, as I just watched the first 3 Halloween films and the 2018 Halloween over the weekend. The only thing I really knew going into this one was "it's the one without Michael Myers" and that infectious Silver Shamrock jingle, and I was pleasantly surprise when I watched it. It's not bad at all.
I love the ending. U really feel tom atkins dread when he's on the phone and he yells Stop!!!!!!
I love this movie. "Trick 'r Treat" is an awesome anthology Halloween movie all set on the same night and universe! Wouldn't the "giveaway" broadcast give you a seizure?
Amazing Halloween 3 season of the witch has one of the most catchy jingle for a commercial ever in a movie.
This is the best Halloween movie without Michael Myers in it. There. I said it.
And am I the only one who thinks this is the ONE Halloween movie that would be served well by a remake? As much as I've grown to appreciate this movie, it's clear that it could've used a couple rewrites to fix problems like the fact that the movie seems to pretend that time zones don't exist. (Think about it. It's 9 PM in New York while it's 6 PM in California. By the time the climax of the film gets going, countless kids in the Eastern, Central, and Mountain time zones are already dead.)
My favorite shot in the movie is at the end of the trick-or-treating montage, when the camera pans from the kids in the hills to the town below as the Silver Shamrock jingle fades and the dark of night descends. Such an eerie, menacing shot representing the evil that is about to befall the world. Dean Cundey is still the man.
A brilliant little touch of set design? The monitors and control consoles that kill the robots and Cochran at the end are arranged in a circle like Stonehenge.
The trio of Silver Shamrock masks also reminds me of the trio of Happy Meal Boo Buckets that McDonald's sold a few years later. The only differences? McDonald's used a ghost instead of a skull, and opted to kill millions of kids slowly through obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.
Also, if you don't wanna hunt eBay for an expensive Silver Shamrock mask, you can buy one from Trick Or Treat Studios for about 50 bucks.
Ironically, this was the first Halloween movie I saw - I never realised they were "supposed" to be about Michael Myers and wondered why there weren't more Silver Shamrocks in the others
This is actually my third favourite Halloween film in the franchise.
This is still one of my favorite 80's movies that came out in my childhood!!!
Underrated. It's a shame they didn't go with the anthology idea. I really liked this movie. My definite favorite in the franchise
Today must be mantis day for me. I saw a mantis laying eggs in the bark of a tree, and now Brad references being turned into one.
Got to meet Tom Atkins and Stacey Nelkin at a convention last weekend. Both were real cool people and they love how the following and appreciation for Season Of The Witch has grown
For anyone who cares, my ranking of the Halloween series:
- Halloween
- Halloween II
- Halloween III
- Halloween 4
- Halloween H20
- Halloween 2018
- Halloween 5
- Halloween Kills
- Halloween 2007
- Halloween 6
- Halloween Resurrection
- Halloween II 2009
First ever Halloween movie I watched as a kid. Been a fan ever since
I never did get why people didn't like this movie outside of Michael Meyers not being in it. I think it's a pretty interesting plot, if a bit mad-cap.
I think that it's kind of campy at times but I always figured that was part of the point.
If one was able to just take this movie and give it a different name wouldn't be surprised if it would've been far more well-liked back in its original release.
