Imanuel Mesiah I have to wonder about people like you who needlessly spread filth and hate into the world and aim it at people they don’t even know - what is so wrong in your life that you feel the need to do this? Are you just jealous of people who seem happy and successful in their lives because you are not? Do you want to try to make them feel something of what you feel every day? I can tell you in all honesty it’s a total waste of your time. You can not make a happy person unhappy with your stupid, petty words just as no one can ever make you happy with anything they might say to you because you would rather live in your negative world with all of your hate and vitriol and all of your problems (that you probably blame on everybody but yourself) than ever be happy or nice to anybody. People who spew random negativity are addicted to their negative state. Being negative sends out chemicals in our bodies that closely resemble the effect of methamphetamines thus creating a situation that some people crave and become addicted to creating a person who is always negative, mean, unhappy, sad & useless because they become the type of people who complain about all of their problems constantly but never do anything to fix them, because then they’d have nothing to complain about and they thrive on conflict. And even though it is true that I don’t know you either, your nasty, uncalled for comment, says way more about you than you probably realize. You want to let the world know that you are a world class asshole with shit for brains and absolutely no empathy and a waste of oxygen? Congratulations! You succeeded beautifully! Crawl back into the hole you slithered out of and do the world a favor and stay there.

If it was a few hundred years old, I wouldn't paint it. If I loved the wood grain, I wouldn't paint it. Otherwise, it is going to be whatever makes me happy, and the wilder, the better. This looks SO AMAZING!
    P.S. Love the boots!

maybe they would choose not to sell to someone who was going to cover up a family heirloom they had loved, perhaps it was a reluctant sale...

I saw this over a year ago and bought the colors and forgot to save the video. I don't know how I found it so quickly and the only way I knew for sure that this was the right one is when I saw the puppy! I didn't even remember the puppy until I saw him. I'm so excited now I've got red yellow and turquoise paint ready to do my armoire when I get my deck finished. I am painting my deck and front porch. It's been so hot that I have to do it in the mornings and evenings because I'm dripping sweat into my opaque stain LOL

I agree and disagree with the whole paint or don’t paint old furn. If you have a piece that is over 150 years old, then it may not be wise to paint. Some ( very few) pieces can be very valuable and painting it can greatly reduce the value of it. Be careful... If something is beat up, or looks like it was mass produced,( yes they mass produced furniture 150-250 years ago). The piece Debbie painted WAS solid maple, but had already been refinished. It was probably made in the 1960-70s. Debbie didn’t hurt the value, that was done when the family refinished it the first time. If it was valuable at all ( it wasn’t)(antique dealer here) When Debbie’s through with it, if the new owner wants it can be simply refinished. No true harm.

I totally agree as a long time antique collector- who has a small space in my house for shabby chic. It’s painful to watch nonetheless if it’s something that resembles a nice piece- I don’t know why. I could never do this job. In any case, for those pieces that there are no hope, for I think this is a good option.

I don't have a problem with painting wood furniture, if it's a color that I don't enjoy, like this maple stain. This is not my style, however you are so adorable, I would love to watch a video of yours every day. I love how you show how you mess up a project, but don't give up (like I might) and try something different til you like it. XO

I've probably already left a comment a long time ago but I'm rewatching because I want to do this to my kitchen floor! I've never been able to afford the paint until now and I'm sooo excited to get some. I want all the colors (I wish you could sell a sample kit of all your color collections) but I'm just going to get 3 small ones for now. My floor is only like 6x7ft. You have truly inspired me to explore, express and experiment with colors. I don't really have a favorite color because I like most of them but it depends on where or what the color is for. I painted a 1970's dresser that was my parents hand-me-down, a dark teal color and used a white to weather it but I lightened it to a muted turquoise. I used used hardware on some and leather drawer pulls from amazon. It turned out beautifully and is my favorite piece. It looks like it should be in a house on the coast.
Anyway, I'm a big fan for a few years now and your videos helped me get out of a seriously dark place by using color to fix my mood. I was literally surrounded by dark brown furniture, none matched, from 3 different decades too. After watching you paint a couch, I watched more and listened to your stories and decided I was going to paint them. The one on the left is a chest of drawers from the 60's, I painted it white and decoupaged some fabric flowers on the side. The one on the right is a low profile particle board dresser from the 90s that I also painted white and in front of me is the 70s hand-me-down dresser that is now an amazing shade of turquoise. Oh and a wooden bench at the foot of the bed was dark wood and is now white. I don't regret it one bit either! It elevated the room which in turn elevated me. Thank you for your time and videos. You make a difference in this sometimes $h! Ty world 💙

First off, let me say that you and your videos are wonderful , sweet and are a joy to watch. It killed me that the couple who so lovingly cared for their piece of furniture , who bragged that it had been in their family for so long just ..gave it away. Perhaps, that's a saga in and of itself, and so I will withold judgement because I am one of those, who is in agreement that we don't paint old furniture. But I am a sentimental soul. We don't paint old furniture because It s history, man! Its a piece of our past. And when it s a piece of one's pay it becomes a piece of everyone's past. It holds secrets and stories and painting over that is like dismissing those stories , just wiping over them as if they don't matter . As if history doesn't matter. It's like putting Einstein in a nursing home with no thought as to what he contributed. It's like casually dismissing George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Martinn Luther King. Although it's only a piece of furniture, and it's stories are much smaller, and less grand, much quieter and much less impactful, it still tells a story. We don't paint over those stories. Just an opinion and it doesn't hold me back from enjoying your sweet personality and fun videos.

If you are emotionally attached to a piece of furniture then you shouldn't sell it. If you get angry that someone painted a piece of furniture that belonged to them and make a stink, sorry, you need therapy. There are some pieces that need to be painted as they are butt ugly and they didn't survive the the years so well. It should be considered a new life for those pieces. Some pieces are better left alone. No need to get all butt hurt over it all.

I just found your channel and love it! I get the whole “dear God, that’s real wood, please don’t paint it” all the time! First off, if you paid for the piece, then it’s yours to do as you please. GET OVER IT! Who cares if it’s maple? She PAID for the piece. If it makes you happy, then go for it! Paint can be taken off and it can be refinished. Good grief we’re not talking about a piece from the Middle Ages.

Did the people you bought it from see your video and freak out? I live in Italy, and dark wood is absolutely the absolute. My Italian grandparents had very dark furniture in their house, all of it beautifully made by my extremely talented grandfather who never knew he was talented.
Cut to many years later and I have an apartment in an 800 year old house in Tuscany and a lot of bare wood dark furniture (I painted two pieces years ago). I have left the better pieces dark because it seemed to be a mortal sin to paint them in a Tuscan farmhouse style apartment.
But years ago when I still lived in the States I became passionate about paint. At night I would read the Kremer Paints catalogue and swoon. I wanted to make my own paint. I ordered all the ingredients to make chalk paint. No clay though, because who knew? Then I learned how to make milk paint from milk. There was no no powdered milk paint on the market then. With my pigments I was able to make my paints as vibrant or as subtle as I wanted. I had no qualms then about painting bare wood furniture.
After watching your videos, along with JamiRay and Jeb's and Dionne's I can no longer stifle my paint passion. All of that dark Tuscan furniture will get painted. I also watch Kacha and love what she does, but felt that her pieces were too formal for my taste. And all that gold! So guess what? I have a huge bedroom, presently full of stuff, and I'm going to make it look formal French with lots of gold. Way out of my comfort zone. I am so grateful to all of you!! As I know all of your stories with breathtaking hardship, poverty and anxiety. You all have inspired me and pulled me out of darkness during this pandemic with its isolation. You are all so talented and gifted in countless ways. I love watching you transform furniture and have learned so much. But most of all I admire your courage. I can't imagine making videos of myself painting furniture. I loathe being in front of a camera and besides, I'm. pretty old now at 75. Who wants to see an old lady painting furniture?
I've gone on too much here, so I'll quit. But once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the extraordinary generosity you all have to teach people around the world with your videos. What a gift you all are!

That piece I don't mind being painted. It needs something. I am not an advocate for painting because I've seen so many awful jobs but this paint job is like something in a Van Gogh painting. I normally consider Shabby chic more of shabby bleak but this I'd actually have in my home. A solid wood admirer, likes this.
