I love this song. In my top 5 for Pearl Jam. The video, imo, is one of the best music videos ever made. So many messages being conveyed. And, of course, Eddie’s voice which, while singing about evolution, devolves more and more as the song progresses, until it becomes almost animalistic. Brilliant.
Great reaction, thanks for getting deep into it. The song is fantastic, one of their hardest. And I love Eddie's vocals! The video is crazy and packed full of messages about us humans
THIS AWESOME SONG AND VIDEO CAME OUT 1998 ON THE YIELD ALBUM. "DO THE EVOLUTION!!" THIS VIDEO AND THE JEREMY VIDEO. PEARL JAM ALWAYS WRITES REAL LIFE. I LOVE YOUR REACTION!! THANK YOU!! MORE PEARL JAM PLEASE! 😊🩷🤘✌️
What is weird for me, I know this since it came out, but never imagined we'd go there, our present times were displayed. Timeless. The choir part still gives me goose bumbs.
I am a massive Pearl Jam fan and Id like to share some awesome facts about this music video. It was co-directed by Kevin Altieri who was a writer and director on Batman: The Animated Series from the 90's. Super amazing cartoon for those who remember it. The artist for this video and co-director is Todd McFarlane who created the comic book Spawn. For those who want to deep dive, they even created a gorgeous making of hard cover book titled Pearl Jam: Art of Do The Evolution. There is even a digital / kindle version. If you love art, comic books, music, and this video, you have to check it out. Enjoyed your video Sohum. Welcome to the greatest community of music fans. Im not even gonna get in to the fan club stuff, or start talking about their concert posters because thats gonnna take all day. The amount of thought and effort they put in to their album art and posters and stickers is on another level. Love you all.
Dude it took me about 50 rewatches to understand the song as I do now. I was watching your reaction, admittedly with a tad of envy, just waiting for you to not notice as much as I did, yet you did it on your first run! You smart cookie lol, you are a human if ever I have seen one.
This is the first song I ever heard of Pearl Jam, wish I could go back in time and listen to it for the very first time. I’m so happy you reacted to this song, my personal favorite. Loved seeing your reaction. If you want to hear a live version of the song I highly recommend the one they did at Monkeywrench Radio or at Madison Square Garden in 2003
My favorite music video. It is crazy. Saw it years ago on tv when it was cool ..decades ago actually. Blew my mind and my friends in the room partaking in music and herbs.
I'm surprised that no one has suggested "BetterMan" MSG 2010. It shows the fan interaction with the band which is AMAZING! Thanks for the reaction, you really got it! This video is really powerful and I always see something more.
Sohum, great reaction! You are a smart dude! It’s not every day I see reactors bringing up game theory. I’ve seen a couple of your Pearl Jam videos and they were both great. You’ve got a new subscriber! Keep up the great work. P.S. if you liked the bleak take on human “progress” here, you should check out “Higgs Boson Blues” by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Another great song (and Vedder has covered Nick Cave in the past, too!).
This video and song have always been the best representation of humanity. For each glimpse of hope ,peace, and good, it's countered by how terrible we act to everything. The only constant is death waiting to have that final dance.
I would have thought you would have commented on the dark-haired woman, wearing black, who's dancing throughout the video. She represents the specter of our worst tendencies.
I wish people would stop saying that; it's reductive and misleading. This isn't the place to write an essay, because that's what it would require, to explain why but a simple google of something like "survival of the fittest is a misconception" should do the job.
We build up these ideals, these higher goals and aspirations, these moral intentions... but we're human. Our humanity will always come out in the end. It's always there. And to be human, is to be selfish, xenophobic, and violent. It's in our blood. This is what nature has made us, who are we to argue with her?

I was going to say that but you did a much better job... Every time I watch the video I see something new.
Can't agree more. Could have written this comment myself. Props :)

Hahah, well thank you for the kind comment. No need to think less of yourself though, we all pay attention to art in different ways. Cheers
@@Sohum Cheers dude

Thanks man, I appreciate that a lot.
Your recs are added to my list!
This is fantastic live. We all "sing in the choir" during hallelujah...
This is from the album Yield that came out in 1998. That album, and this song in particular, was inspired by Daniel Quinn's book Ishmael.
not 14 years ago, it was produced in 1998
The album yield so so freaking good.
It's just fucking human lore, I like the moment when death is dancing, it is dancing now and will always dance

Love it!!! Thank you 🫶🏼
Fantastic reaction and analysis!
Glad you think so!
Matt Cameron your new favorite drummer
So good. I didn’t like it the first 1 or 2 times but now it’s top 3. Seeing it live is nuts
Great reaction.
Great reaction - as always!
Please do Nothing as it seems live Nurmberg 2000. Masterpiece ❤

Thumbs up.
survival of the fittest is what darwinism preaches.
