Should I Paint The Inside & Underside of My Kitchen Cabinets?

Another common question that we get is "Do you paint the inside of the cabinets?"
We often don't look that closely at the inside of our cabinets, but often, the inside has a wood texture or another color. Yeah, it might need to be updated. Of course we can do that for you, but most commonly, the inside of the cabinet has some sort of prefinished melamine or really durable hard surface. It typically doesn't need to be refinished, but this edge is very common and that would be typically part of what we would normally paint as a part of our basic painting or renewal of your kitchen cabinets.
So do the interiors need to be painted? No. Could they be painted? Absolutely.
Another question we get asked quite often is "Do we need to paint the bottom of the cabinets?" I guess that's a personal decision. However, there's a practical reason to do it and a practical reason not to do it. The practical reason to do it, maybe, if you happen to have a dining room table right here and you're sitting down and you can see the bottom of the cabinet. In that case, that particular cabinet bottom or underside may need to be painted. And that may not be for the entire kitchen. It may just be for this cabinet here that you happen to see while you're eating dinner.
In other situations, there's no valence molding on the bottom here and you have very, very easy viewing of the underside of the cabinet. In those cases, yes, we do paint the bottoms of the cabinets and we're happy to do that, because honestly, it wouldn't look right if we didn't.

Another reason to paint the underside of the cabinets is if you have under-cabinet lighting. Painting the underside of the cabinets white makes a huge difference to both the brightness and the color of the light.
