As someone who works in a warehouse and is forklift certified, seeing the stationary forklift parked with the forks in the air gives me the willies XD. But great review!
I love the minifigures and the vehicles, but for that price point I would have expected to see more grocery store. The friends set from a couple of years ago had more for half the price.
It does not happen regularly therefore I appreciate the fact that Lego for this summer wave - intended or not - put in some synergy between sets. Farm, chicken coop, farmers market van, and grocery store work very well together to produce, transport, and sell food for the city. The crates with the 2x3 plates on the bottom (it's the same for the farmers market van by the way) should even fit into the open containers from the cargo train. Prices are what they are and we have to deal with them somehow. Good thing is those sets will be on the market for about 2 years and I think usually there are no issues with availability for City sets. So be patient - it's hard, I know - and wait for discounts to tell the market we are not willing to pay those luxury prices for toys would be my suggestion.
I'm convinced this is set is return fire at Woolworths here in Australia, who released "Lego like" brick sets of their stores and delivery vehicles. Even the Fresh logo is reminiscent of Fresh Food People tagline Woolworths had in years past.
It has some nice pieces, and it's a good idea, but it's too expensive for a relatively small set. The store in itself doesn't offer much play, aside from the cool sub assemblies. The forklift is the best part, the side "conveyor belt" and the bottle machine are cool. I'll have to go and get the minifigure with the prosthetic leg and the shopping cart. The only way I would consider buying this set was if it was with a 50% discount and in a good mood.
You are thus going to tell me that the lego houses of the past had more play than this? Putting a figure on the bed or in a chair and that's that. The rest in those houses is window dressing. The same can be said for this building. Or any other building. I got this set for 50 euros. And imo it's worth that much. No more. What you are saying is go 30 euros/35 dollars. Do you realize that every set with 2 cars and a side build is 30 euros/35 dollars? 3 simple lego cars are 3x10 euros. I don't see how this set would be 30 euros. at the least, it would be 45.euros but that is pushing it.
I actually love this set. The colors, the details, the figures, the accessories! Just trying to be positive. But I won’t pay more than $40 for it normally, but I could see $45 considering the plate, and I suppose $50 considering inflation. So $70 is still not ok in my book. But I’m trying to make my comments less of a broken record!
I love how Jang has always been reasonable when it comes to pricing, yes we want it as cheap as possible, but salaries have to get paid too. too small or too pricey in my opinion but I agree with needing more 'regular' sets and civilian minifigs. I have an army of firemen just because firestations come with good parts (ex. doors and large window panes) at decent prices. Nice to see regular city stuff, i'll wait 'till it goes down in price :) mainly for the produce and double doors
Lego prices are going out of hand. In Brazil the City school set was being sold (prior to price increases) for 131 US dollars (699 reals). And retailers never really give a discount on Lego. On Black Friday one gets at most 10%. I wonder where this whole accessibility talk by Lego went... The official retail price in a 3rd world country is twice the US price... ridiculous!
I couldn't agree more with your comments on adding an easily removable roof. I mean for the ridiculous price of US$70(!), you could have at least given us a nicely detailed roof, much like how they did with the most recent Star Wars diorama sets.
It’s so wonderful to see the prosthetic leg! I really hope this is a meaningful step for representation for fans, and also a meaningful part as well for lifelike cities
I'm really glad the farm theme is back and hopefully we get more farm themed sets. It would be incredible to have a full grocery store with a big store and more sets with it. Maybe a connecting backroom? Or even just more stuff to put inside, a garden nursery would be nice to put outside of it like some stores have.
Maybe I'm out of touch with the demographic, but if AFOLs have been complaining so much about prices recently, then I imagine it's worse for parents who are looking for their kids. Why buy your kids a city set for such horrible value when you could get them way more for any other unlicensed theme? I just don't see how it helps them in any market.
I'd imagine most people will say the same. Looks very good but too expensive. I'd also say it looks like an easy thing to make a bit bigger without too much moc skills required.
The road plate actually makes sense in this set. This set is pretty good, I really like it but, no way this should be the same price as the Lego Avengers vs Thanos from last year.
The "Central Perk" is $10.00 less and makes for a far more interesting interior set; not to mention 3 more mini figs. The forklift, one mini fig, and a two crates with vegetables and maybe the shopping cart would be worth about $10.00 (U.S.). The car doesn't appeal to me. For $70.00; I would rather have a minivan, jeep or truck. This is a great idea; but not a good approach. This would be a great idea for a MOC.
Agree with basically everything in the review. I'll add that, despite not liking the new road plates, I think this is a good use of them. I can see myself using the loading dock and parking space. Especially because the forklift and car are fantastic.
Awesome to see the new supermarket set. The car is a very late 2000s - early 2010s style which is cool . Looking at this i can probably make my own shop since i have a lot of butcher, fish counter along with some vegetable stands from Woolworths Lego and lots of fruit/vegetable crates . I also own an orange forklift from set 60020
From what I have seen in recent years, it seemed that LEGO is making price changes so that it's like more consistent with the rest of the world. For context, 60097, a City set that was released couple years ago, retailed for $189.99 US and $329.90 for Singapore. Exchange rates I would calculate @ $0.69. Prices displayed are in US. US: $189.99 SG: $227.63 This set, cost $99.90 in Singapore. US? $69.99? US: $69.99 SG: $68.93 P.S Although most of the time closer to retirement they tend to go beyond 30- 40% off online, and that included HTF sets like 76139 Batmobile and 75252 Star destroyer. While I get some may say it's expensive, erm, people in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia had been paying absurd prices for LEGO over the years. I do like prices are now more consistent across the globe, however, the RRP of the set could had been cheaper.
Online close to retirement and 30-40% off is usually bulk sale from distribution which mostly only goes for sets that didn't sell that well in particular areas in the world. So you simply luck out getting "that particular set" for a bargain. The retiring train set of 2018 in my country goes for 85 euros atm. That is a decent deal for something that large. And I also bought the old marina set decades ago in a similar fashion. Which was a hard-to-find set at the time. But if you really want something don't wait for the bell. You might miss out or pay HTF prices.
I was so excited when i saw the thumbnail. This looks really fun and can serve as a template for other types of custom stores some kids might want to make!
I like the figures too but the fig with the running blade puzzles me. I get it "inclusion" yet that is a running blade not a regular prosthetic. It would be inaccurate to see someone walk the streets with that. It would be awesome if we got a park set with someone practising. Like an athlete sprinter. It just becomes a bit silly if you want to make things real life.
The Kwik e mart is the best Grocery store yet, I love that it had more shelves, so, like a real shopping trip, you go through the isles. Only thing better here is the food.
I miss the peg leg piece, but i hope we get a prosthetic leg for the right side too. And they have the same top color cause that would be extremely useful for syfy builds and those runners who have both ones.
jang what about the wooden leg on pirates being the first instance of prostatic legs in lego? its good to see the first modern high performance prostatic leg in lego though
this set, with the Asda sticker sheet (so you can brand it like the UK supermarket), is available for £35.00 in Asda stores, which is about the right price point, the RRP is way too high. Great video!
The way to fix the forklift port would be to use a 1x2 technic brick with two pin holes, placing the axle in the hole closest to the outside of the building (this would move the liftarms forward a bit so they won't catch on the crate). To keep the axle in place, one would use an axle with a nailhead on one end, with the head on the inside of the wall so it couldn't slip out.
I love the look of this set, sure a roof would’ve been nice but the build leaves space for one which wont take much spare parts to cover up, I can imagine combining 2 of these sets to make a larger store but there is no way to justify the price. Even in the UK at £59.99 its crazy expensive! I’d like to pay £35 but willing to go to £40. I’m sure Amazon UK will have it on sale for those prices soon enough.
I'll get this set eventually, but as you say in a sale. I imagine some creativity and a second box could allow for closing up the back of the store, some better product distinction, etc. I could really see those windows making a great, open space.
I bought because I was deciding between all the farm/market/van and I like Lego. I'm a casual fan I guess and only buy maybe 2 sets a year, but understand the price plight. Now my little families have somewhere to restock their RV and Surf shop :)
Im working hard to become a prosthetist (a person in the medical field who fits and makes prosthetics) and i for one think its really cool that theres a figure with a prosthetic.
I can't wait to get this set. The price has not deterred me from my original decision. I think this is a great little set and would look great in the city.
First amputee lego?! Jang have you forgotten about the darth maul minifigure from the star wars the clones wars? All jokes a side you are 100% correct about the price
I may be totally alone in this preference, but I absolutely HATE the alternate face heads. Not every person who’s existed has hair or a hat of some type on 24/7. I’ve come across some really great faces, but the face on the backside shows with the outfit I chose. Yes I know you can “wipe” the print off, I do not alter any bricks no matter what so that leaves me stuck
AU$79 at Kmart here in Australia. Not cheap, but not super expensive either. My main gripe is the forklift and back door which I could of done without. And would of been nice to have a few extra apron wearing employees and a few more orange shopping trolleys
I love that LEGO made a nice civilian set. There has to be a community for all those firefighters and police officers to serve. I love that car. Besides the smooth pieces and tires, it is right out of classic town! The new prosthetic leg and corn cob pieces are awesome! But ouch, that price! Also, the bad thing about buying from other retailers to get the discount that may or may not ever come, is you won't get the VIP points. And LEGO almost never puts any of their own stuff on sale. Not stuff you usually actually want, anyway.
For 70$, I would have added a delivery truck in the mix, that would have equalized the price, and some more food products, otherwise, make to store a little bigger, because as is, it's too high of a price.
If they had added a roof they could have put a roof top garden and crops grow on the roof could be taken down useing the forklift at max hight. But that is a nice mod idea
I'm a bit late in the game here as the set is already retired. I love the set and did get it myself. My only criticism is that for $80, we should have gotten a roof. Thanks as always for another high quality review.
other than the corn, I was a little disapointed that witht the price they couldn't make new veggie/fruit pieces and even expanded the shop/given it a removable roof
I'm probably in the minority here but I wish the store looked a bit plainer. Actually, I think it's just the giant carrot that puts me off. The layout inside is a bit unnatural too, with the forklift dumping product right next to the cashier's desk. I think the inside could be rearranged. I love the forklift though. I'd love to build it in yellow.
my sentimental mind LOVES this set and can imagine a full supermart. my logical mind counts the groceries and say it is more a convenience store. both my minds say i should wait for sale discount to buy.
$70? For a 400 piece set? Oi. That seems a bit steep. I once played with lego when I was a kid and I've been giving off and on thoughts about allocating some space here at home for lego tinkering... but... the prices, man. The prices are absolutely ridiculous anymore. Can't really get anything beyond the very basic buckets of bricks for anything I could call a reasonable price, and these small sets are like $50-70 for tiny little things, I mean, to make any kind of city, would cost the better part of a thousand bucks at that rate. I just don't have that kind of money to chuck around. Really wish I had kept the lego I had, but sadly I gave it all to my niece, had this large plastic tote with... probably 5k+ pieces from lots of different sets that came out in the 80s and early 90s.
They could easily just make those exact same forklift pieces with a soft detent ratchet mechanism and I don't understand why they feel this is a better solution, though maybe they see launching stock as a feature... Also I like the cars proportions, but you'd think a car built for a grocery store would have... cargo space...
Disappointed that the store has no aisles and they had to tack on the unnecessary road plates. But its awesome to finally get a non Friend's grocery store!
As much as I like the looks of this set, the prices recently are absolutely ridiculous
It's already easy to find it at 20% discount...
They have always been.
Lego has announced a price increase so it's going to get worse
I agree
As someone who works in a warehouse and is forklift certified, seeing the stationary forklift parked with the forks in the air gives me the willies XD. But great review!
same here!
I love the minifigures and the vehicles, but for that price point I would have expected to see more grocery store. The friends set from a couple of years ago had more for half the price.
seeing this makes me really want lego to produce more different shop builds. maybe a hardware store?
thats a great idea! I was tryin to build a smartphone shop/'apple store' or a gamecafe coz I have somany old style Lego computers
I really like this set and how it looks. I was expecting about $50 for it. Ideally, I would want to see about $40, but $70 is just too much.
It does not happen regularly therefore I appreciate the fact that Lego for this summer wave - intended or not - put in some synergy between sets. Farm, chicken coop, farmers market van, and grocery store work very well together to produce, transport, and sell food for the city. Lego did prosthetic leg back in '89! Pegleg for pirates line. :D
The price is a bad signal for all Lego fans of things to come
I'm convinced this is set is return fire at Woolworths here in Australia, who released "Lego like" brick sets of their stores and delivery vehicles. Even the Fresh logo is reminiscent of Fresh Food People tagline Woolworths had in years past.
I didn't even think of that! But jeez, 99 bucks for us is something else...
First time I saw this set I instantly thought of the Woolworths Bricks sets. Even has the solar panels on the ‘roof’
It has some nice pieces, and it's a good idea, but it's too expensive for a relatively small set. The store in itself doesn't offer much play, aside from the cool sub assemblies. For me the conveyor and bottle machine are just a waste of space. More shelves and products all the way.
That electric car really reminds me of the 4-wide Lego car designs of old from 1988-1990. Oddly nostalgic.
This is pretty cute and fun; I'd love to buy two to make a full store. But $70!?
I actually love this set. The colors, the details, the figures, the accessories!
Just trying to be positive. But I won’t pay more than $40 for it normally, but I could see $45 considering the plate, and I suppose $50 considering inflation. So $70 is still not ok in my book. But I’m trying to make my comments less of a broken record!

Wow, I applaud Lego for their REALLY creative names, Mr. Produce
Lego prices are going out of hand. In Brazil the City school set was being sold (prior to price increases) for 131 US dollars (699 reals). And retailers never really give a discount on Lego. The best bits of this, imo are the new prosthetic leg mold, the electric car build and the store front looks pretty cool too.
That Forklift does not follow OSHA regulations
I just bought this for my son for christmas for just £35, but it comes with exclusive stickers so it can become our local supermarket Asda!
Have you seen the prices for Transformers lately? Or Playmobil. It is insane. The prices are going up a lot.
Toys are ridiculously expensive nowadays
I'd imagine most people will say the same. Looks very good but too expensive. I'd also say it looks like an easy thing to make a bit bigger without too much moc skills required.

Pirates pioneered prosthetic legs ;)
Agree with basically everything in the review. I'll add that, despite not liking the new road plates, I think this is a good use of them. I can see myself using the loading dock and parking space. Especially because the forklift and car are fantastic.
I'm definitely gonna buy it, with all the farm and vegetables city sets of this second wave. I love the small vehicles and all the interesting pieces.
The new road plate piece costs 1$ on Bricklink new.
I finally have a modern prosthesis, with this set. Solid as a brick, colorful as a flower... a little expensive but worth it.
From what I have seen in recent years, it seemed that LEGO is making price changes so that it's like more consistent with the rest of the world.
For context, 60097, a City set that was released couple years ago, retailed for $189.99 US and $329.90 for Singapore.

US: $69.99

P.S Although most of the time closer to retirement they tend to go beyond 30- 40% off online, and that included HTF sets like 76139 Batmobile and 75252 Star destroyer.
While I get some may say it's expensive, erm, people in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia had been paying absurd prices for LEGO over the years. I do like prices are now more consistent across the globe, however, the RRP of the set could had been cheaper.
I live in Australia and unless sets are a must buy, I will wait for the standard 20% off sales at department stores otherwise it’s a rip off
Online close to retirement and 30-40% off is usually bulk sale from distribution which mostly only goes for sets that didn't sell that well in particular areas in the world. So you simply luck out getting "that particular set" for a bargain.

Man, I really adore that little car design.
Love the gunpla in the background on top of the shelves!
I was so excited when i saw the thumbnail. This looks really fun and can serve as a template for other types of custom stores some kids might want to make!
It picked this up for £41.00 in the UK but full price was £55.00............. Still thought £41.00 was more than enough. Great review again Jang.
Been waiting for weeks for you to review this set jang !!! Yay, finally. I love the minifigure in this set.
I love that car, reminds me a lot of the cars from lego town sets.
I think those red lanterns with green sprouts are supposed to be beets!
I love this set. But I know I could build it myself with pieces I have 😅
I miss the peg leg piece, but i hope we get a prosthetic leg for the right side too. And they have the same top color cause that would be extremely useful for syfy builds and those runners who have both ones.
The smaller car build reminds me of LEGO System sets. Good times.
jang what about the wooden leg on pirates being the first instance of prostatic legs in lego? its good to see the first modern high performance prostatic leg in lego though
this set, with the Asda sticker sheet (so you can brand it like the UK supermarket), is available for £35.00 in Asda stores, which is about the right price point, the RRP is way too high. Great video!

Pretty cool that Lego made a prosthetic leg, though I gotta wonder what happened to the guy!
Probably injured in one of the hundreds of crimes that happen in Lego City every day
It’s a cute LEGO set. I’m planning on getting the set for myself. Great job on the video.
There’s so much in the set that I like I might just cough up the $70
I can't wait to get this set. The price has not deterred me from my original decision. I think this is a great little set and would look great in the city.
Stupid road going into the side of the store
Lego must really not want me to buy any sets this year, so many are overpriced for what you get
Time to get forklift certified
I like that new branched plant piece.
First amputee lego?! Jang have you forgotten about the darth maul minifigure from the star wars the clones wars? All jokes a side you are 100% correct about the price
8:12 - the 90s called... they want their awesomeness (and simplicity) back!
Ah! Killer Tomatoes! Now I understand why that nice peapod-lady is carrying a riot-shield to a grocery-store.
Yeah, sucks that this set is so expensive :( will have to wait for sale cuz theres no way im missing out on this beauty! 😍
Car works. It is like a 4 stud smart car if you still use 6 stud wide max cars for your city. 8 stud, then it is way undersized lol.
I look forward to getting my hands on the wheeled grocery catapult that comes with this set
For 70$, I would have added a delivery truck in the mix, that would have equalized the price, and some more food products, otherwise, make to store a little bigger, because as is, it's too high of a price.
Would have to buy 2 and combine for a “true” supermarket feel. Also get rid of the parking lot to save space.
I am still happy with my Simpon's Kwiki Mart which will work in a town too.
We have a new forklift driver at work who struggles in exactly the same way with loading and unloading goods...!
I just scored x2 2022 hospital at Walmart for $70 ($140)... I hope to find similar deals with the city summer wave
I think this set fits to vintage lego town very well as the vehicles are 4 studs wide.
Hi Jang, just wondering if you've seen the exclusive sticker packs in the UK from ASDA that lets you turn this store into an ASDA?
The trolley piece is a bit jarring, but I don't really know what else they could've done to achieve that look besides some annoying clear stickers
the old forklifts used a small spring do you remember that???
like the set idea (was would like to to make into bigger & more complete store) but price tag for set is just insane but do love shopping cart piece.
Great detailed analysis, JANG!
Now LEGO can do a Darth Maul with proper prosthetic legs!!! 😍
Rootbeer! ♥️
That looks like the old burger bar to me: not the main 'thing' in the set. Only it is. For $40 or $50, yeah. For $70? Not a chance!
Hows the prosthetic leg go sitting down? Does it lift up high enough to avoid studs, or does sitting on a studded surface cause issues?
Is there a way to find discounts for legos (like a website) or maybe use an app to track a specific set internet-wide?
The forklift is great fun for launching stuff
I'm probably in the minority here but I wish the store looked a bit plainer. Actually, I think it's just the giant carrot that puts me off. The layout inside is a bit unnatural too, with the forklift dumping product right next to the cashier's desk. I think the inside could be rearranged.
I love the forklift though. I'd love to build it in yellow.
The bottles actually look like vinegar, (olive)oil and aceto di balsamico to me ;)
Wasn't this set supposed to have 5 mifigs, with a fork lift operator? or is that exclusive to a region, if that makes any sense? I'm confused
my sentimental mind LOVES this set and can imagine a full supermart. my logical mind counts the groceries and say it is more a convenience store. both my minds say i should wait for sale discount to buy.
Can the minifigure with the prosthetic leg sit down properly on 4 studs?
Instead of Lego trying to make the short legs bend, they should just make shorter torso's and use the medium bending legs
Would have really loved to see a creator build of this set for more details.
I'm not sure if getting this to moc up is worth the price.
I like it I just wish more shelf space . 2 per section? I rather have more room to add more things
Disappointed that the store has no aisles and they had to tack on the unnecessary road plates. But its awesome to finally get a non Friend's grocery store!
Hey,Jang!I want to get this set in a few days.I saw that some stores in my country sell this set at 55 USD. Is it worth it?
