I think a lot of us AFOLs forget that kids really like the dollhouse style builds. So having so many different little buildings is a great value for kids as opposed to using more bricks on making larger enclosed spaces we see in modulars. If I can catch this on sale I will definitely pick this up for my kids. Might be a bit pricey at MSRP but we'll see.
Agreed. As an adult fan I get the appeal of mocs and display type sets but kids love open sets where they can play with the figurines in the environment. Anyway great review as always. Grossly Im not into the aesthetic of the set but I am impressed by the details and the playable elements
print opacity is a massive problem that it seems like lego does not care about at all. You're the only lego content creator I've seen call it out, thank you for continuing to do so Jang.
I saw the video you posted on your “main” channel, I’m SO glad that LEGO listened to the fans and included extra 2x4 tiles to connect the road plates to other sets. It’s such a simple addition but a huge quality of life change
Indeed. Now they only need to update the road plate set to include some extra 2x4 tiles. Come on lego, it's neither witchcraft nor rocket science. And it's also no alchemy, so don't go ahead and raise the price by 5€ for this added convenience. Thank you.
This set retails here in Australia where I live for an insanely expensive $319.99 AUD (on the LEGO website, which I usually use as a basis for it's normal retail price), and I'm happy to say that I ordered mine yesterday on Amazon for a mere $179.99 AUD (almost 50% off!). As someone with only a few select City theme sets (most of which are trains) I can't tell you all enough how much I appreciate the design of this set, and cannot wait to build it! 😊
I also cashed in on this crazy special last night! Less than $120usd equivalent is unreal. Lucky too because it has already ended and scaled back to 10%. A number of really good deals on Aussie Amazon last 24 hours. I snapped up this City Centre set, Ski Centre, Skate Park, Deep Sea Sub and two of each of Apartment Building and Cosy House sets (to expand and enlarge). All were 44-51% off! My wallet is literally on fire but could not walk past those sort of discounts.
There's a Comic Store here where I live that I visit like once every Month or so and let me tell you, there is more merch, more mangas and basically anything else there than Comics. There are in fact comics and comic books but Mangas and Merch each cover a whole wall whereas Comics are only two big shelves. So I can confirm your comment to be true.
Looking at this, all I can think of is how fun this would be to have as a kid. I love making buildings out of Lego, and this would have blown the mind of me 15 years ago.
I like the suggestion of that shore side city front feeling. Its one of many ways they made this set feel like a fresh idea for Lego (though, of course, Jang has had that for years)
Sets like this are what I would like to see more of from city, ya know stuff to build a city with, price doesn’t seem that terrible either which is rare. I don’t have problems with the vehicles and things we usually get, kids like them and this is a toy, but I feel like there’s room for these different ideas to coexist. I know when I was a kid I would’ve loved something like this, I always preferred playsets and I’m sure there are lots of kids that feel the same way too, maybe I’m wrong that’s just what I feel about this.
This set seems really nice honestly, like a place I'd actually want to be/go to/live in irl. The modular aspect of this set is great too. Also, that unboxing/recording setup is hilarious to me, in the best way possible. Also also, the minifig selection here is quite nice, lots of useful variety. Also also also, that dog!! Love that LEGO is doing more dogs, I need them all!
Great set! City and Friends have been knocking it out of the park last year and a half. If I wasn't already concentrating on my modular city, I'd buy this.
It looks like the Vet building is the same color as the Vet above the corner garage modular. A second office perhaps? Thanks Jang for another great review.
I think it would have been more passable price-wise if there was a larger vehicle included. That said, it does look very good. Also, I don't think you mentioned, but the scuffs on the windows are horrendous? Has lego still not fixed this issue?
It's a fascinating set, there are parts of this that I think work great, other areas that look a little questionable. The whole thing gives me more ninjago city gardens vibes for me. The contemporary white part of the building with the hotel and sky bridge gives the impression of an airport design. the very colourful exterior aesthetic is a bit too much of a mish-mash. The biggest pro is you can at least move different sections around, and add parts from other 2023 city sets maybe.
I was shocked to see the window panel at 9:30 because against the black background you see every scratch on there and it looks terrible. If this was a used set ok, but given its brand new I'd kinda feel scammed there...
Thank you so much again. I just want to stress how much I appreciate what you do. There is no way I could justify buying any of these zhese sets unfortunately, but thanks to you I can still enjoy them and take a good look at them and keep myself 'in the loop' of what lego is cooking up at the moment. ❤
i am pretty sure the dark orange floor with the vet sign is a reference to the garage modular, which also had a vet's office and was dark orange, kindof in the same style too
Well, I wasn't sure on this set and your awesome review sold me on it! Going to buy it and complete some of these for my city! Thank you for the great review!
Great review! Very versatile set. I love how interchangeable this is. A very good point, Jang, that it is a useful way for people not used to customizing to get a feel for it. I hope we see more of this type of set.
Many nice details, nice playability and modularity and nicely presented! Very nice! The only things that bother me are the very reflective road pieces - asphalt is dull, as were the old road baseplates! - and the price. If Lego fixed these points, the set could be very very nice.
Unfortunately $200 is a little out of my price range, but it definitely seems like a great value for the stuff included! I feel like lego City is really nailing it lately, reminding me of back in the 90s with city sets with roadplates that lego INTEDED for you to connect. So nice to see that back. It even seems like they're trying to gently connect the creator sets that fit into the town/city theme, like Noodle cart theming is the same as the noodle shop creator set. I could see that set fitting perfectly next to this one. Also the lego friends connectivity is great. that subtheme has been separate for far too long.
Very hot take but just my opinion: I don’t like the modern utopia version of what City has become. I’m noticing a lot of amazing set ideas but when we get them it’s weird and futuristic. I miss the old city where every car wasn’t electric and the buildings while few, looked wholesome and cozy. Now everything is transparent blue and way too colorful. Idk just my opinion.
City: Hey, Friends! Can I copy your homework? Friends: You can HAVE my homework, I'm studying with Modulars now. All cheek aside (although... I mean, Friends really has been stepping up its game like crazy), this is pretty great.
Am I the only one who is starting to prefer these types of builds over the full modulars? Every time I build a modular I get sad that all the cool detail is sealed away like a tomb. These sets give you so much more chance to story tell in your builds. I do agree that the tiny torture room is odd. hahaha
I'll be honest, I didn't modify most of my Lego sets as a kid either. My collectors instinct had already kicked in and I wanted to keep all the pieces together. I only modified smaller sets or fully custom builds.
I don't know how I feel about this weird utopic futurism City stuff. It looks like a GREAT toy, but I wish it was grounded a bit more in modern-day reality. But I've always wanted a much more grounded theme in the vein of Creator Expert Modular-style. Or basically just Friends sets with more true-to-life color schemes. A better analog of reality, to some extent. But I was always a bit outside the play pattern they designed for as a child (and now continuing as an AFOL)
The fact that the entire set can be modified, brilliant!! Now's that is very cool, didn't really expect it, that was a surprise to me! Not much is missing, except the lack of access (ladders or strairs) to the different levels and perhaps a nice car in there, but otherwise, it's a very great set for sure!
This set would pair well with the set 60347 produce store at one end of the street. It would complete the "european style walkable city" vibe Lego has been pushing lately
Every time someone says it I feel the need to say this: those are Ninjago spinners cards, not Ninjago trading cards. There was close to no incentive to trade the cards that came with spinners because each set always came with its own specific set of cards that play well with the included character's stats, no radom chance involved. Ninjago trading cards do exist but they don't look anything like the cards lego occasionally includes in sets like this one
That is a good chunk of a city tou get there. I like the variety of businesses and architecture style, and you get a good assortment of minifigures to go with it. $200 is not too bad for this.
This thing looks really cool and your Lego City videos have been tempting me to add City to my Star Wars collection. I just wish I had the space for something like this, it would be really cool to have a big table with a Lego City on it. I do wish that they’d add more flesh tones instead of just having yellow minifigs. I would love to see a big diverse Lego City set.
This is an awesome set, with a bunch of amazing minifigures The main think that I don't like is lack of stairs/ access to upper levels I would like to see someone make this more complete The extra tiles for the road plate 👍 I would probably get this on sale US should be like Europe getting awesome deals
I actually like (yes!) that it doesn't have more vehicles includes. Kids often have/get those small vehicle sets, shich are great but if you are lucky enough to get a Downtown you sure will have enough to fill it. Great review.
Another great review, thank you. I most appreciate you pointing out how the modularity is compatible with the Friends sets. Once you explained that, it seems like such an obvious (and great) thing to do and I wonder what took them so long. It saddened me to hear that many kids just build the sets and leave them as is. I’m another old school kid and I remember the sets from the 70’s which had alternate build pictures on every box or instruction book which usually had me breaking my builds apart to figure out how to make them.
I love the manhole cover in the street, it's not something I've personally ever seen before in a City set. It's a little awkward that it's round in a square alcove, but that's a minor nitpick. The comic store is a bit of a miss. There's an entire blank wall that could have used a sticker representing a rack with comics on it or something. It just screams at me: "something should be here!"
After JANG's review I couldnt resist the temptation to buy this set for AU$239, although I missed much better sales. It seems that one weakness of the set is it cant be easily moved around or transported. But the modularity and figures variety are great.
So I see that they're using double plates for floors as standard now. Does it increase the price? I never had problems with flimsiness of single plates floors even if there were composed from smaller pieces just joined by narrow plate at the edge. Hotel next to open air disco? Good luck getting some sleep. I have two ~1km from house and can hear them every weekend to 4-5 am. Is that t-rex cosplayer head preexsisting piece? There is no sense for it to be green. It would work even better with simple yellow head with mouth print on the back.
Love the set and it's already on sale between 149 en 155 euros over here. Only problem is i really don't have any room for it and i still want to buy some other sets also.
Just looked it up for pricing here - $320 is the asking price by Lego in Australia, but one retailer right now is selling it for $255 right now. Imagine how much Lego must mark things up in order to still make a profit when other stores are selling it this cheaply.
the previous big city sets had a whole bunch of small vehicles with a step price. this one only has a tuk tuk and scoter and the price seams fair. i find this somewhat interesting

I really wish the new road plates were wider. Many of the City trucks are too big to fit on them with other cars passing... it looks kinda ridiculous...
Great review as always. Love the modularity and inter-changeability of the buildings, great mini fig selection BUT not sure this set will sell well mainly because of its price and target audience. AFOLs who can swing that much cash will not be interested as it lacks details of an actual modular and parents/grandparents will not just spend 200$ on one lego set. Yeah some will but honestly they would be better with like a couple of 50$ sets and some other game/toy. 200$ for one toy for a kid is just a lot!

Its simple but essential if they want people, kids especially to actually engage with the gimmick, im glad they seem to be doign this more now

I think the "Tool Shop" is more of a closet/shed of maintenence/gardening tools for the city employee.
It sells for € 155 over here (Netherlands), down from € 210... Not at the Lego webshop of course. 😅

9:39 I love this detail. I love it when LEGO makes upscaled LEGO, out of LEGO. Like this, and the Ant-Man Final Battle set in particular.
"Ironically, the comic store doesn't have a lot in the way of comics."
Just being true to life.
There's a Comic Store here where I live that I visit like once every Month or so and let me tell you, there is more merch, more mangas and basically anything else there than Comics. Jang is one of the great treasures of not only UA-cam but of the entire internet. We love you, man!

I was waiting for my favorite Lego UA-camr to review this set. THANK YOU
This set looks even better than I expected.
I have been watching your channel since 2015 when I was about 13 and I recognized that music. It’s so nostalgic.
that parrot is the veterinarian
It looks like the Vet building is the same color as the Vet above the corner garage modular. A second office perhaps? Thanks Jang for another great review.

I LOVE the built-up designs on the outsides of the buildings!
this shows the potential for a real modern modular building set, would be refreshing.
The big incentive for me in this set is the amazing collection of Minifigures.
Great review Jang! Thanks! This year has given us some of the best city sets.
Thank you so much again. I just want to stress how much I appreciate what you do. There is no way I could justify buying any of these zhese sets unfortunately, but thanks to you I can still enjoy them and take a good look at them and keep myself 'in the loop' of what lego is cooking up at the moment. ❤

The "barber" could be a woodworker named Ron. Fun diversity of shops.
It seems LEGO designers asked the youths: "what are you into?/what would you like to be when you grow up?"
-UNBOXING VIDEOS, COMICS AND PIZZA!
Well, I wasn't sure on this set and your awesome review sold me on it! Going to buy it and complete some of these for my city! Thank you for the great review!
That puppy part is SO adorable!!
Been a while since I watched Jang, glad to see he's still going strong no matter how expensive lego gets
14:41 ok but this set DOES include the water to throw that E-scooter in if you so choose
Quite 80's style design. A little bit chaotic but colourful and fun.
Excellent review, like always!
Lots of cool detail, a lot happening in a small space so they started building up. Also like the modular locations.
Great review! Very versatile set. I love how interchangeable this is. A very good point, Jang, that it is a useful way for people not used to customizing to get a feel for it. I hope we see more of this type of set.
i love the way they used the chains on the water. also the barber shop is so cute, i think i'm gonna get this one
Many nice details, nice playability and modularity and nicely presented! Very nice!
The only things that bother me are the very reflective road pieces - asphalt is dull, as were the old road baseplates! - and the price.

Friends: You can HAVE my homework, I'm studying with Modulars now.
All cheek aside (although... I mean, Friends really has been stepping up its game like crazy), this is pretty great.
This looks pretty cool, i might consider buying my first lego city set 😀
I'd wait for a sale..this is pretty pricey for what it is
The tool shop could be city maintenance storage for like tree trimming and such
Am I the only one who is starting to prefer these types of builds over the full modulars? Every time I build a modular I get sad that all the cool detail is sealed away like a tomb. These sets give you so much more chance to story tell in your builds. I do agree that the tiny torture room is odd. hahaha
The dance floor is the perfect spot for the Benny/Unikitty dance party set from Lego Movie 2. You’re welcome. :)
Looks very Lego Friends-esque, which of course is a good thing.
Greatest lego city sets ever
Love how there's so much going on.
I'll be honest, I didn't modify most of my Lego sets as a kid either. My collectors instinct had already kicked in and I wanted to keep all the pieces together. I only modified smaller sets or fully custom builds.
So, one thing that stands out, this set looks waaay better here than it did in Lego's official previews.
I don't know how I feel about this weird utopic futurism City stuff. It looks like a GREAT toy, but I wish it was grounded a bit more in modern-day reality. i think the "tool shop" is meant to be a maintenance closet for city/mall employees
so, not accessible to "public"
Looks like a great addition to add to the LEGO Ninjago Cybercities :)
Great review! As always! Thanks for doing what you are doing Jang!
Every time someone says it I feel the need to say this: those are Ninjago spinners cards, not Ninjago trading cards. There was close to no incentive to trade the cards that came with spinners because each set always came with its own specific set of cards that play well with the included character's stats, no radom chance involved. That is a good chunk of a city tou get there. I like the variety of businesses and architecture style, and you get a good assortment of minifigures to go with it.
$200 is not too bad for this.
Great reviews , I being a subscriber for a long time already and I can say that you are one of the best in the web
This thing looks really cool and your Lego City videos have been tempting me to add City to my Star Wars collection. This is an awesome set, with a bunch of amazing minifigures
The main think that I don't like is lack of stairs/ access to upper levels
I would like to see someone make this more complete
The extra tiles for the road plate 👍
I would probably get this on sale
US should be like Europe getting awesome deals
Yeah it seems kind of rushed/unfinished, maybe it needs a portable staircase/elevator!
The bike lane being disjointed in the alternate build clearly proves that the set is based in the USA. 😉
I actually like (yes!) that it doesn't have more vehicles includes. Kids often have/get those small vehicle sets, shich are great but if you are lucky enough to get a Downtown you sure will have enough to fill it. Great review.

Should have put a LEGO logo on that box in the recording room.
Would be even funnier if it was a sticker of the boxart of this very set.
I like the amount of color in this set
I've never really had any strong feelings for lego city but dang, I LIKE this one
This set just radiates with "it just works"!
16:05 I love that sweater piece on the right, so I guess I'll just have buy the whole set for it :p
True when you say kids don’t modify their sets, I never did as a kid
After JANG's review I couldnt resist the temptation to buy this set for AU$239, although I missed much better sales. It seems that one weakness of the set is it cant be easily moved around or transported. But the modularity and figures variety are great.
I almost like the alternate configuration more. The buildings are more spread out and it looks more like a real city block.
the vet is a budget version of the corner garage modular. Same colours!
I absolutely love it! This is exactly what I'm looking for in a city set.
Love your reviews jang, not sponsored or paid to say ..just honest own money psid for set reviews, have a great weekend, take care 👍😃🙏
Hello and thank you for the video. I just ordered one. What City sets, specifically buildings or similar, can connect to this Downtown set? Thank you!
"gives you the opportunity to connect this to other water-based sets"
**gets out his viking village set**
the previous big city sets had a whole bunch of small vehicles with a step price. this one only has a tuk tuk and scoter and the price seams fair. i find this somewhat interesting
love love love all these gender nonspecific torsos!! uve said this in the past and i wholeheartedly agree that the waist indent was not only sometimes unnecessary but was also a detriment to the lego customization experience. (not to mention the times it was egregiously narrow lol) another excellent review jang! thank u for ur decade+ of dedication to making ur channels as honest and welcoming as ur reviews!!
I feel like there isn't enough detail in most of the interior.
Modularity is the its best appeal. I’m not sure about the color schemes.
Whoa! That's a big set!
the alternate faceprint of the costumed character resembles that of the series 22 space creature, perhaps they are the same species?
I really wish the new road plates were wider. Many of the City trucks are too big to fit on them with other cars passing... it looks kinda ridiculous...
Seeing the rainbow crosswalk made me almost not get this set. But good thing this is Lego, I can incorporate my own pieces to replace it.
It would have been nice to have a lego store included in the set
That bird must have been wincing when it laid that egg 🥚
nice review
Wow amazing set awsome review 👌
9:16 oh wow that window piece is super messed up there
There is another drink! It's on the balcony of the hotel! Excited for the electric house review
Wow this is really good. Daresay better than Ninjago City Markets that I was most looking forward to. Looking forward getting this.
i was wondering how well the 60365 set would go with this
I like the design of this set, but the colourway feels cheap, odd pairings
dois it mean that friends AND city AND harry potter now can be freely mixed and rearranged ? If so that's crazy awesome
