Do you mean different types or actual number of systems?
Because while a lot of shots do not show it, the Victory class does have a huge number of smaller pulse and beam weapons for anti-fighter and anti-corvette type defence in addition to it's main guns.
The Victory has 27 beam weapons listed along with an unknown number of AA weapons all over and "multiple" missile launchers, that's fairly significant.
The Warlock has 2 Beams, 3 Railguns, 22 Pulse cannons of Light through to Heavy types and 28 Missile silo's listed, not that much different really.

I just want more of this universe... I have the same sentiment for firefly/serenity.
I love that the victory Visually identifies humanity joining the higher galactic technology level. The warlock still looks slicker yes, and does shows limited increase in tech and shipbuilding: but the Victory just emanates the change from submarines in space to actual space ship.
The biggest struggle for alien ships is making them look grounded while still feeling exotic, the design team did a great job showing the different levels of tech in each race through their ships. Vorlon ships scream "I can't be understood" while the Centauri ships still make sense while clearly being a step above the current Human level - you can add races to this describing the tech level of each race by how grounded the ships look. (This is extremely fun to do with the league of non-aligned worlds)
I would love to see you do a free form video essay on the topic of just how well this was done in B5 and maybe include a call to action for others to do the same/whatever your opinion is (you might disagree with my takes or opinions).

Victory class can engage and win vs any race top tier battleship. It punches as hard as any and can tank way more damage.
I estimate it walks away from any 3v1 fight of the younger races.
The Shadow or Vorlon would be a 1v1 fight with a good chance of defeat. Can beat Shadows with Telepath but need the big gun for a vorlon ship... then hope none show up to Finish the Victory while it recharges

I like this ship. Although underpowered with it's quantum singularity power plant and rushed into service in the events during and after "A Call to Arms" the Victory and Excalibur didn't reach their full potential. I would have liked to see the series continue past "Crusade" and maybe have Excalibur in a battle like 3rd Space but unless we get a reboot it will not happen.

Victory class destroyer vs victory II star destroyer who would win?

  • @BalazsBujdoso

The victory class monitor is class Is classified as a destroyer because the ISA is a purely political organization. A battleship in the fleet would give a wrong feeling.
The Whitestar is designated as a monitor because its primary mission is reconnaissance and espionage.
Find the designation from this aspect very accurate as a destroyer.
The Whitestar class was capable of either destroying all ships of the younger race or inflicting significant damage on larger ships, and it fulfilled that role full. However, the Whitestar ships were designed to operate in wolfpack tactics. The next logical step was to develop a weapons platform that would compensate for this deficit. And this is with the Victory more than succeeded.
To the defense and attack systems.
The Victory class was designed with a high tier Vorlon bio-armor. The Whitestar has a low tier which is due to the fact that the Vorlons provided the Mimbari a relatively early stage of their bio-armor research.
Only when an abandoned Vorlon ship was found in hyperspace was it possible to reverse-engineer both the bio-armor, energy systems and weapons technology.
The victory was intended to be equipped with a full-evolved Vorlon bio-armor that would have to grow. And instead of automatic repair systems based on nanotechnology, it should have a biological regeneration system that should be powered by cosmic rays. The weapon systems based primarily on Mimbari tech improved by the Vorlons.
Tech that mix one of the oldest and one of the oldest young race. That's all I have to say. Who should do something if even the Centauri are afraid of it.
The victory is far superior to all ships of the younger races.
Even a sharlin would not put it in trouble, although it is a prototype.
Fully developed with all the technologies, it would have given the ISA a superiority that would have ensured lasting peace for centuries to come.
To support this, let's take the Valen class cruiser.
This was the second attempt of ISA to adapt Vorlon technology and it worked much better.
The power supply was more stable and the quantum drive based on much higher tier Vorlon technology was implemented much better.

    @johng.1703 3 місяці тому

Victory Class Destroyer was both under powered and over powered at the same time, it was also used as a solo ship, which is also a very bad move, capital class ships should have smaller escort ships. but the glaring foul up for this ship was that if it ever did fire its main weapon it couldn't move, fire, use electronic counter measures, or jump for 30 seconds.
the the series they more than often don't fire the main weapon specifically because how it would leave the ship so vulnerable after firing. there is very little point in having a big massive space gun when you can't fire it. so for the majority of the time, this ship is no more powerful than a single white star. this ship has way more down sides than it has benefits. it's a bigger slower less manoeuvrable ship than a white star with about as much firepower as a white star, unless it goes dead in the water and loses its ability to jump.

I wonder why the traditional classification of surface naval ships (Carrier, Battleship, Battlecruiser, Assault ship, Cruiser, Destroyer, Frigate, Corvette, Monitor, Patrol boat) were not used in this show. Victory is definetly not a destroyer. 🙂

Politics and finances. It is easier to get approval to spend money on Destroyers, than Cruisers or Battleships. Once you have the money, you build a really big battleship sized 'Destroyer'.
Even today a modern naval Destroyer is far bigger than Destroyers used during WWII for example. A UK Type 45 is 152.4 m (500 ft) and displaces upto 8,500 tonnes. A typical WWII UK destroyer was 99m (325ft) to 108m (355ft) 1,350 tons to around 1,700 tons.

Always thought this thing was vastly under-gunned in the sense that there were only two turreted weapons on top of the hull. At nearly 3000 meters, surely they could have fit many other turrets on the hull to cover under the ship and more to cover the flanks. Imagine another 6 turrets with those neutron cannons or even some combination with the pulse cannons of the White Stars. Also, where are the missile launchers?
