I am so in love with Freddy Mercury in my old age. I missed his era, too young. But to discover him now, just blows my mind. He was a mammas boy and u can tell, due to his level of confidence. He's a lived child. The beauty of that is the best thing about him. I hope he mother knew that his greatness was due to her love.

Yea he’s past his prime but still sounds great. Two different vocalists too. I think plant is more exotic sounding and I prefer plant but both are two of the best of all time.

You cant compare these two by them singing the same song. Freddie is a baritone that could hit high notes with absolute POWER. Plant was a tenor whos voice is what rock and roll is supposed to sound like. They were both amazing in their prime, and anyone would be lucky to have a voice like theirs.

3) Don Henley (a softer tenor, but very distinct. Also, an AMAZING song writer)

As a drummer and a guitar player I don't see how this guy on Quora says that Queen were a second rate band compared to led Zeppelin.
Led Zeppelin was great at the music that they did but don't ever call Queen second rate they were a first class band all the way. Brian May built his guitar the red special from just parts that he found laying around in the neck of his guitar was made from his mantelpiece which was oak one of the most iconic guitars in rock history. John Deacon was and is a terrific bass player that can more than hold his own with John Paul Jones or any other bass player on this planet. Roger Taylor a terrific drummer, guitar player, and singer can more than hold his own against John Bonham or any other drummer.
And the late great Freddie Mercury had one of the most instantly recognizable voices yeah there were other people with voices that were able to go higher or make them sound more a lot more raunchy, but there was none other that could use it more effectively than the mighty Freddie Mercury. Watch his performance at live aid and you will understand that Queen will never be second rate to any band then now or ever

Freddie can’t do Plant, and Plant can’t do Freddie. They both rock their styles. I think Robert Plant is a better singer in range and sound, but you got him here at his worst. He had bronchitis I think and he was getting older. Still both were amazing. Both had amazing albums. Best rock bands ever

Bueno tenía un mayor registro vocal Robert cuando era más joven (1967-72) pero fue perdiendo agudos debido a el sobreesfuerzo que hacía en los conciertos en vivo.
Zeppelin songs are challenging...especially with John power house Bonham. he basically taught Roger Taylor drum power, which makes him just as good

You apparently didn't listen to Plant in the 90s then, mate. Although he sounds better these days.
Well, that's Queen's song, so, of course we expect the voice of Freddie behind it. If Mercury tried his hand at, say, "Since I've Been Lovin' You, " it would be NO CONTEST. They're different vocalists and even though they are both "rock singers," they have different influences and hover around very different sub-genres of rock.
Also, the age difference between Plant and Mercury in these recordings also has a huge impact. If you had Plant singing this while in his prime (during around the early to mid 70s) he would sound different again.

I’m not a Queen fan at all. This is a skip to the next song kind of tune. It’s not for Robert. Zeppelin’s cannon is much stronger than Queen’s. Freddy is too operatic, Plant has a much better blues rock sound.

Robert was two years younger then Freddie. This video is from 1981 where Freddie was already 35 years old. Unfortunately, Robert already lost a lot of range by 1975. This is literarily the easiest Queen song to sing. But yes, I do wish we could have heard Robert singing this in his prime.

@Gaming Tech That is simply untrue. Freddie could easily sing in falsetto during the 80’s he actually did sing in falsetto during every show from ‘84 - ‘86. Have you ever heard of impromptus? Freddie did one every night. Where he would hit those soaring extra high falsettos. He didn’t like to use falsetto because it was to soft, while he was running around on stage. Freddie’s voice improved in the 80’s from the 70’s. He could sing much higher in chest voice during the 80’s and his voice had more power, while he used a lot of falsetto during the 70’s. @IzzahBoi 90% of the Immigrant Song was Roger Taylor not Freddie Mercury. It was a spur of the moment song, without rehearsal. Robert at least did have rehearsal here. Crazy Little Thing Called Love is quite literally the easiest Queen song to sing. The range for this song is Bb3 - D4. There is barely any range and the song is in a low key. But I do believe Robert was sick for this performance so it understandable that he might have had some issues.
I still think robert plant is the best performer and freddie is more higher vioce but both great both goats!!!
