- 3D Printing for coffee gear? In this video, we talk about using a 3D printer to modify a grinder, in this case a Mazzer Mini, for lower retention, as well as higher ergonomic performance. I also show a funnel for the Delonghi Dedica, and a bellows, to blow out any remaining coffee powder in the grinder. Check below for links to the 3D models.

This is great - reusing a grinder that would otherwise sit and collect dust. Unfortunately though, 3D printers usually come with brass nozzles, which contain lead, and that lead - though a small amount - is in the print, and that could still be ending up in your coffee, which might not be ideal. Not to mention, not all filament (material for 3D printing) is food safe. But that can be solved by getting a nozzle out of stainless steel for under $20, getting a food safe filament and thoroughly cleaning the flament path.
My experience with 3d printed bellows is that they break over time, use a silicon bellow instead.
That’s a good point! Cheers ☕️
I will try this with my old Cunill Tauro. It is a beast!
Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for your job, the video was really interesting! After it I've purchased for 50€ a quick mill 050 that have the possibility to remove the dispenser and I'm going to design by my own the mod for this machine and print it.
Really excited 😄
Hi Alessandro! Very nice 👍🏻 Thanks for the feedback, and good luck with your design! Tom
In which utiopian country have libraries 3D printers? This winter libraries wont likely be even open due to heating and electricity costs in Hungary.
I was surprised myself.
This was an a library in Wisconsin. But I am guessing they are becoming more popular in libraries around the country. Maybe in Europe too? I don’t really know yet.
A 3d printer cost less than a tamper!😏
After seeing this mod I'm inclined to seek out a used Mazzer Mini. Would you recommend this grinder for drip or pour over, or is this strictly for espresso? Well done! Thank you for the upload!
Hi Damian, this is a sweet grinder for espresso. They can be found really cheaply in the used market. Cheers!
Very useful mod for home use. Which file did you print, Mazzer_Mine_Doserless_Funnel_V2.stl or Mazzer_Mini_Backplate_with_funnel.stl? V2 has oval entry and the other one rectangular? Thanks.
I think it was rectangular, but I don't quite recall. Just choose the file based on your grinder chute opening geometry.
Tom what is your opinion on a grinder ugrade to match my Europiccola? I'm looking at either a new Specialita or a used Mazzer Super Jolly and doing this mod. Espresso only and using hoppers.
Thanks
The Specialita is way better ergonomically. Also much smaller and quieter. The SJ is big and powerful, and I love that Mazzer nameplate, but the thing really is humongous, and has quite a bit of retention.
Tom whats better the df54 or this?
While I love the looks and heritage of Mazzer, this one has been hard to level the burrs on, and it has a lot of retention, especially the doser models of course. I'd go with the newer tech, the DF54.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner true but you can get single dose mod on it and bellows and apparently the retention is zero if you tilt it a-bit forward. What do you mean by level the burrs on? And also i mentioned the mazzer as i have seen for 30 whereas inc postage the df54 is 250-60.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner could you make a comparrison video with the fully modded mazzer
@@zayanhussain9570 That would be cool, but these grinders are currently in different locations. Maybe I will reunite them soon enough. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner thanks
where can I buy the mod ? can you post the link
I made the mod in my local library for free. Link for the 3D design in the description. Cheers!
