Great work! To all who read this: This specific grinder has a 3-Phase AC motor. The speed control used here (commonly called a VFD) will not work on a simple single-phase AC motor.
2606. That's the setting you need to change as that motor wine is horrendous. Change the switching frequency to 12kHz and it will be reduced significantly.
If you prefer to choose single dosing instead of full hopper you have to adjust the grinder to fine. The use of the cork stopper has little impact on grinding results and it's purpose is to reduce the popcoring phenomenon and to exclude the remainings beans in the chamber.

I tilted my Mazzer Major years ago but not as far as your 45 degrees ... mine is only 30 degrees from vertical but works very well for low retention. I'll have to make a UA-cam video but mine isn't pretty like yours. Would love to learn how to do your speed mod - very clever! Mine has nearly new Mazzer burrs. Have you ever compared just the SSP burrs to fresh Mazzer burrs with all the other mods in place? I'd be very curious how much difference in grind quality the SSP burrs make (don't care about longevity of the burrs - I won't be able to wear out the mazzer burrs in my lifetime just grinding for one or two espressos per day - haha).
I bought the grinder second hand having in mind the specific mod. I have never used the burrs of Major because they were used too much. I have on my bench a Super Jolly and a Pharos so I can compare SSP 83mm only between them. SSP are made for single dose and they have the attribute not to reduce the acidity (which I prefer) as SJ makes. The coffee taste is similar to Pharos. To make this speed mod I choose a grinder with the code S1MJSOPAE03 ( 3 windings ) and not the one with the code SMJSPAE01 ( 2 windings ) and I followed the instructions of VFD.
Could you share more pictures of the process, and some tips for this mod. Just bought a mazzer jolly and an angel grinder. And waiting for it to arrive
You can see 3-4 pictures here. www.greekespresso.gr/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7135 I know the language is greek . I sent this link only for the pictures.
How did you wire the VFD to the motor? I have a robur 415v 3ph. Usually the vfd output is 230/240v. Do I have to change the motor wiring from delta to y? Thanks
The idea of a Robur that grinds from 50-450 rpm is amazing. Usually the vfd have the same voltage at input and output .As you can see on the manual library.e.abb.com/public/dff8b3662110475cbbd5363575334004/EN_ACS150_Drives_UM_D_A4.pdf (page 22) you can use a 1-phase input vdf (240v in-240v out) with the winding in delta connection or a 3-phase input vdf (415v in-415v out) with the winding in star connection.
It depends from the vfd that you will use, there are vfds that simply convert single phase to three phases without upscaling the voltage and others that do so but anyway i think that for 415v you need Y connection anyway.

your mods are ridiculous and I love that
you should make a kit for this and sell it on etsy!
Grinder and video both really nicely made, creative and very admirable!

WoW!!! That is a sick Major you have created! Kudos
Συγχαρητήρια,φοβερή δουλειά.
Ευχαριστώ πολύ

Awesome work!
Btw, did you check the burr carrier alignment ?
Yes, I have aligned the burrs carriers with sandpaper .
Ι have done it also with a Super Jolly : ua-cam.com/video/qFdZpiZBXDE/v-deo.html
amazing!
Χάρηκα πολύ που είδα τέτοιο mod από Έλληνα, μέλος του Greek espresso και εγώ
Very good job!
Thank you
As i see from your channel you are very active
I admire your job
This is great. Do you find the cork plug reduces the need to go so fine over what you normally would with a hopper full of beans?
If you prefer to choose single dosing instead of full hopper you have to adjust the grinder to fine.

Ο μύλος είναι πιά , το κατοικίδιο μου. Με το λιμάρισμα τού tunnel , δεν κρατά τίποτα. Μεγαλύτερη κλίση θα δυσκόλευε την τροφοδοσία με καφέ.
Nice! About to do this with my zenith
And? :)

which part did you use for contolling motor speed? Would you please give me the link you bought that from?
new.abb.com/drives/low-voltage-ac/micro/acs150 ( 0,75 Kw )

I will soon upload a video that explains the grinder's reaction to speed changes
@@BasilTh Also the build, the cabinet modification, especially.
Did you experiment with the angel of the grinder?
@@anderschristiansen5976 If you mean angle of the grinder , Ι choose 45 degrees for better stability. If you incline it more , it falls.

Stunning! You should call it "the Niche mod". Please show us how did you saw and tilt the grinder 🙏🏼
The idea comes from Monolith Flat , Ceado hero .These grinders incline at 45 degree.
Niche, Lagom have smaller incline .
@@BasilTh I own a mazzer mini and that serious tilt looks like solving the main problem of clogging on the chute. Very inspiring!
if you ever decide to sell, please reach out to me, thank you :)
