- In this video I review my new ARD 1.1 all-road bike. An all-road bike is a bike somewhere between a touring and gravel bike. In the video I go over the details of the bike, what I think of the bike and finally if you should get one.

I pray your channel get more and more progress. 🎉🎉 👍
I've owned a couple Novara bikes (REI's old house brand name) and they were good. The trick is to wait for their 20% off sales or find a clearance deal. About 10 years ago, I bought a 29er hardtail for around 50% off, rode it a few months, and sold it for a small profit.
The other bike I bought was a steel frame single speed commuter bike. REI used to have a very lenient return policy, so I returned it after a year or more. After I lost 90 lbs, the bike didn't ride well. My heavier body flexed the frame enough that it was smooth initially and became very harsh, so they took it back. Not long after, they changed their return policy because people like me were probably abusing it.
I got my son their 16” a couple years back and it’s been great. I think the only thing I didn’t like and had to replace was the grips. REI make great bikes and you have some good support from their in house bike shop.
You should get continental gp 5000 tires. The bigger chainring is more efficient than smaller ones due to less dramatic articulations of the chain.

Here in the UK the Co‐op are best known for food stores. Trying to work out if there's a connection but doesn't appear to be. The branding seems weirdly similar though, even the teal colour is what they use on the name on shops.
yeah I considered that too, and I think I read that the co-op bike brand was bought by REI and that before it was a French bicycle company under another name. I don't think they are connected, but not 100% sure.
💚 Very good price !
Bruce, I have a honest question: you have experience buying used bikes, tweaking, restoring and taking care of your bikes; why would you buy a new entry level, even knowing that you fall outside the size range, female specific geometry and you don't sound pretty enthusiastic about it? Was it on clearance or something?
lol great question, I asked myself the same, why don't I actually get better bikes? I have no idea what's wrong with me. But actually I got this one used of FB market place for just $170, it probably won't be in my inventory forever or anything.
There is not a thing wrong with Claris. It works. But I agree that at $1200 it is overpriced. My daughter bought a similarly-speced road bike from Giant at the height of COVID for $1000. You got a heck of deal, though. There are many opportunities for upgrades.
You may have some issues getting a wider range cassette on the rear. Claris likely won't handle much more (I suppose a road link might help). You could, however, install a sub-compact crank on the front. That would get you low-end (and you can replace that terrible cartridge).
I have an extra xt mountain bike derailleur I was going to try with my 11-40 cassette. But yeah if I could find the right sub-compact I would really like to do that! That would actually be the better solution.
@@BruceChastain That’s a good combo. But, of course, the Claris shifter is not compatible.
What brand of disc brakes are in the bike?
I should covered that in the video, they are decod r brand
@@BruceChastain Thanks👍
wasn't this discontinued?
yeah it seems like it was only made from 2017 to 2019.
