I really appreciate the detail you go into explaining the products and what the labels mean. Good stuff! Also do you have a video to fix bad spots in the lawn? I left out a fire pit and the lid left a brown mark in the middle of the lawn. Is it just water to get the grass back?
Try with water first. If you don’t see some green up in a few days, you might need to re seed/sod.
Excellent advice on the soil testing!!…. Go to the local university… and we have one here that is a leader in agri studies…(Ottawa, ON, Canada)…. GAWD, I wish this guy was my neighbour!!…

Thanks for stopping by. Full disclosure upfront… my knowledge of warm season grass is limited. But in general, when selecting grass seed cultivars, you are looking at overall color, drought tolerance, disease resistance, germination percentage, and several other things. If you can find a cut sheet for each cultivar from the seed supplier, they should be able to show you the performance ratings compared to other seed types based off NTEP trials. This should give you a good idea of how good the seed is for your area. I hope that helps.

Any suggestions for taking care of POA?
If it’s Poa annua, the summer heat will kill it… you’ll need to put down a pre-emergent in the fall (forego overseeding) to prevent it from coming back next season. If it’s Poa Trivialis, then you’ll have to either dig it out or kill with a non-selective herbicide. Then reseed. Assuming you have cool season turf.
Gonna chose between Pennington and Scott for dense shade grass seed.. you know the grass under maple trees. I probably only need 3-5 lbs for the three trees. Which brand would you suggest?
More important than brand is to find something with a seed analysis on it. You want to make sure there are 0.00 % weed seeds and 0.00% “other crop” seeds in the mix. It’s hard to come by if you are shopping at the big box store. But it’s available online at several sites. United Seeds and Seed Superstore are two sites that you might want to check out. I believe they have small quantities too.

Going to grow grass in my back yard do I need to Rotel the yard first there some grass but mostly dirt or can I just lay the seed down and do top soil or something on top a thin layer
You can scarify the bare spots with a rake and seed.
