- Are you finding dry spots in the lawn or areas where water isn't soaking in like it should?
Today I'll show you what I do for dry spots and also let you know a little more about wetting agents and how they can help you to use water more efficiently in your lawn. I also put down another application of soluble fertilizer and a few other goodies in the tank as well.

Right
Yes this is something that I have struggled with for years. And I think this hits the spot since 75% of lawn is great. Now I can rule the hood
I had the pleasure of meeting Ryan while passing through his area on a family road trip. Very personable and friendly, and patient with this interrupting onlooker. And, the lawn is incredible in person. Thanks for the example and motivation in lawn care Ryan.
Of course…that’s called “IOWA NICE”
Stalkahseswut
Thanks for demoing your products. You’ve been pretty humble relative to your own line. Helpful to see this stuff in action so I can have context for planning my fert program.
I have watched your videos for awhile now bro, and I have even more respect for you now when I saw those keystone light and hoodie! Keep up the great content and info bro, and I'm gonna try this on my lawn!
Holy smoke....that is a ton of different product. Looks like a full time job.
I always learn so much from watching your videos!!!Thank you so much for doing what you do...Also, its great to have found a fellow IOWAN (Waterloo) with a lawn care channel!!!
Sure. I'm a month late:
Transition Zone 7 here, Bermuda Turf.
WINDY most of the year. I mean, windy. Most. of the. Year.
First time struggling with dry spots, and finally found it: the metal oscillating sprinkler has two nozzles that have low-pressure output. Ugh! Frustration. The search for the perfect small-yard and side-strip sprinkler continues to this day.
Growing admiration and appreciation for your channel, Ryan.
perfect video right when i needed it!
Maybe one of the first times I watched one of your videos and felt better about my yard. I was able to sink my soil probe 14” into the ground in multiple spots in my yard the other day while checking root depth. 6-10” of root depth if you were wondering.
Soil moisture has a lot to do with probe/aerator depth. Manufacturers always suggest wetting dry soil first before attempting either.
Great advice! I am looking forward to some of your products!
This worked exactly as shown! Thank you
I have been paying attention to uv intensity way more than temps outside. we had mid 90s one week and super high UV and it completely scorched my lawn. well we are still mid to up 90s but our uv levels have been pretty low and the yard is doing perfect.
Hey Ryan! This is super helpful. Thanks.
I’m looking for some insight. I’ve got a mixed cultivar lawn that has spots in it where the grass is kind of thin and lies flat instead of standing up and being perky. Any thoughts on it?
I can recognize that Ecolab product bucket that you use for mixing!
Guy has super perfect yard, next door neighbor, not so much haha
9:28 Are the next-door neighbors ok? That yard is crazy 🫠
I didn't see anyone else mentioning the Key light. Nice.
Grass is suffering down in Massachusetts! As well.
I just found your channel, so maybe there is already a video on it but have you done anything on lawn tools/product organization in a shed or garage etc.
7:06 Mountain Dew Baja Blast
It's what plants crave
I've used this product a few times before and really like it. It's sodium laurel sulfate. You'll hear some gardeners talk about using hydrogen peroxide to get oxygen/air bubbles down into the soil and break it up, especially if you have a fungus. However hydrogen peroxide would kill your grass, thereby making this the next best option.
So it's just the active ingredient in most home soaps.
@@douglasauruss exactly, but a lot more concentrated
Damn that is a sweet Keystone hoodie
Ryan, can you please tell me what Tee Jet tip you're using in this video? Looks like a nice, even pattern.
It's meant for mixing paint. Great for mixing the lawn stuff.
Saw a negative review on Amazon saying the soil loosener killed his grass in 3 weeks. But I need this product for sone spots.
I've been using this for years
With the wetting agent do I have to use a sprayer or can I use a attachment container with water hose.
Do you have a video dedicated to taking care of your sod with pets (dogs)?
I watch your channel so I can have a lawn vicariously. It does amuse me however when you speak of 75 degree days with lower humidity. I live in a place where we call 95 cool, where there is no humidity, where the wind regularly blows upward of 60mph and doesn’t drop below 20mph for 7 or 8 months out of the year and where the last measurable rainfall was June… yeah, 2021.
Oh, and throw in caliche soil.
If you ever want to win the lawn care UA-cam Olympics give me a call… I can provide the worst possible place on earth to have a beautiful lawn.
Well I would certainly have warm season grass so that would be step 1 haha
neighbor yard compare to yours lol dang . Yours Looks' so beautiful. Man if I live next to you I would not let my yard look like that . Especially my neighbor as YT. But if I have house like that I keep it up like you. I like clean and up tight house.
Hockey fan! Nice!
Is the soil loosener comparable to Air8 and like a liquid aeration, or are they different types of products and accomplish different things?
Can you use this on harder clay soil in a flower garden without harming your plants?
Looks good and what a concoction at the end! What things do golf courses do that you don’t do on your low cut turf? Is there anything else or is it treated the same?
Treated pretty much the same
Hey Ryan is all the products you use safe around your dogs?
Are all those mixed in together and applied at the same time?
@Ryan Knorr how would you handle applying the soil loosener in a backpack sprayer on an 8K SqFt yard? Break it up into sections to make sure it gets watered in before in dries?
I'd apply with a hose end sprayer if you could. Backpack could work in a pinch if you could get down enough and turn the sprinklers on right away
Nice Keystone Light in the background! treat yourself to a Banquet Beer ever now and then...!
Great info! Just moved into a new house where the grounds weren't ever touched. Did that sprayer wand come with the backpack sprayer or aftermarket? Looking to replace the one for my 2 gal scotts battery powered sprayer. Got new tips but not a fan of the plastic wand.
that is all stock for the sprayer except the teejet nozzle I'm using
Ryan which model teejet sprayer tip?
Baja Blast!! That's what it looks like after mixing.
My four favorite chemicals are hardORR bettORR fastORR strongORR!
Can you mix soakorr with groworr?
what's that tool you used to get plug up
Hi Ryan - how much N per 1ksq ft did you put down at the 4oz rate?
Less than .1 N - perfect for my spoon feed program
Thanks Ryan. Do you water in after applying liquids?
Yeah I apply in evening and water early morning hours
I have a clay based soil. Did I hear correctly. Baby Shampoo??
How to fix Poa Annua? I have the same problem as Conor Ward.
dig it out and reseed those spots until it gets too annoying, then burn the whole lawn and start over.
@@koolmaaan thanks!!
What would you consider low humidity?
I'm looking more at the dew points. Something in the low 50s here would be pretty dry if it were also windy and sunny
would aerating in that area help the same way?
Not exactly the same instant results you get from a wetting agent
how you liking that Cummins?
Love it
My summers are mid 90’s for months and no rain and no humidity my poor lawn and water bill.
Doesn't sound fun
For what it’s worth always add the Si product first when mixing up nutrients. Some sciencey mambo jumbo but I believe it will fall out and become unavailable 🤷🏻♂️
I did a jar test and it all worked well together as is so I went with that
ASMR 😎
Ryan, Can't you use dish soap like Dawn in small areas as well?
Dish soap tends to be very alkaline, I believe this is why he mentions baby shampoo because it is formulated to be PH neutral 🙂
He has a three part video series from 2016 where he used baby shampoo ($1 from Walmart) and had some good results. I've been using the baby shampoo as part of my monthly regiment and have seen an improvement. Might save you some $$ to go this way.
First Aussie 😁
"If you have a mask"
2020 says "I know you do"
use bit fairy liquid and water it still does the same job that should fix a dry spot
I need an opinion how to remove Mouses from my lawn. There are more then 20 holes after the winter. I dont want to poisen them but i am mad about the 20-30 holes.
Probably voles. They make pellets you can drop in the hole. I’ve found plastic snap traps with peanut butter works well too
@@derrickp Yes Voles. Last year i droped some poisened grain in the holes but Birds eat them to soo i stoped. Filled the holes with water but no solution. Best is still the trap.
How do both of your neighbors have such terrible yards?
I wonder how if he gets anxiety looking at his neighbors lawn looking like that at 9:28?
dawn?
It will always depend. Some people may have a spot that stays dry no matter what they do, if this is the case, either poke the ground or sod that area up, you will most likely have a large rock or concrete someone put in the yard during construction of the house or curbing etc
How to fix blank spots in the grass
Pimp my Lawn lol
Well baby shampoo do the same thing
Wind will dry out a golf course quicker than anything.
If you water your lawn to get 1 inch per week you should be okay? As a preventative you should apply fungus control and grub Control . Does not seem that difficult if you prepare and apply preventative controls. Correct?
Best lawn porn out there!
It’s like getting my oil changed, upselling upselling
Seaweed helps with that
lol...Pimp my lawn
I heard dawn soap was good for that.
JESUS! That’s a lot of crap to put on a lawn!
You need dirt
Your neighbour's lawn... RIP.
You don’t care much for edging your lawn huh? 😂😮💨 It’s a healthy lawn tho!
Why not simply aerate it a bit more with something like shoe spikes and just water a little bit more? Seems awfully costs and time intensive to focus so much product and water like the way the video did...
Sometimes soil goes hydrophobic and just won’t absorb water - maybe you’d prefer to dig the patch up, amend with better soil/compost etc, then repair the patch? Often these products can help *save* water usage overall too!
Holes punched far apart as is done via an aerator does not improve water infiltration. Aeration is a misprescribed and oversold practice. Spot treatment of hydrophobic spots with a wetting agent is an established practice on golf courses and sports fields. Also done by knowledgeable turf professionals. Aeration is a very expensive and disruptive practice as far as the use of the turf areas is concerned. Pull up plugs? Where do the cores go? How do the cores get picked up? How long does the area need to be taken out of use to let the turf heal?

Our guy ryan here specializes in cool season grasses mainly. Sounds like you're in Florida.
@@stedly Florida has high humidity, plenty of rainfall and no caliche. I am in southeastern New Mexico.
In truth I have grown two pretty outstanding lawns thus far in my time here, neither were any small feat. Recently we moved to a ten acre plot where the challenge has grown substantially.
In most places you should really begin working on your lawn several months before planting it, here, your timeline should be stretched substantially. Soil must be built from scratch, sulfur must be applied liberally and timing has to be nearly perfect.
One of our major hurdles though is our wind. When you have unrelenting winds coupled with extremely low humidity you can actually watch your soil desiccate with a hose in your hand, it’s like trying to water with a hair dryer blowing across your land.
@@patriotsandtyrants That sounds very challenging and it seems impressive you're able to get two outstanding lawns. I'm right in the middle of the states, and have a hard clay type of soil with a mix of cool season and warm grasses. Just started trying to repair 2 lawns, one with all the weeds and full of shade. The other with very little shade and getting infested with creeping charlie. Theres definitely a lot of personal research I'm doing on the matter. Ryan Knorr seems to have the most easy to watch lawntube content that doesn't involve an obsessive amount of bermuda grass.
