Have u seen the john mayer video playing along with the Dead? Curious about your thoughts?
ua-cam.com/video/OiUcHpskw0w/v-deo.html
I have no idea what you are talking about, but can't stop watching...
Honesty is the best policy! Awesome response!!!
He’s a phenomenal teacher! It’s been a long time since I played guitar (chronic hand pain), but watching him play is a blast!
It’s great to see someone pick apart how Trey plays! And I’m jealous as all get out that he has a Paul Languedoc guitar!
First, that guitar sounds really, really nice. Second, the chord tone stick with it, not a chord tone bend it, might be the greatest insight ever into Trey's style of playing.
man i love your lessons...theres' only a few teacher i connect with, and you are one of the top ones...youre' awesome...
I watched half of this... played along with the 10-26-10 Manchester version fully for the first time and came back here. Understand it now... thanks. Nice job on this.
I'm not a guitarist, and I do not know chords/progressions, etc, but I love Phish, and I can appreciate your passion brother
Every silver lining has a touch of trey...
Stitch it’s like you read my mind. All tour I was mesmerized at Trey’s sound during The Wedge and couldn’t wrap my head around it. Thanks!
Man I wish I lived on your city, would love to sit down and take a few lessons in person. Honestly, your love for music and the guitar is infectious. I’m sitting here with a big smile on my face during your video. My GF and I love to watch your videos and then work through the concepts. It’s become our “date night.” We especially love the Jerry videos. Brother, keep doing what your doing. From Michigan, much love.
This lesson answered so many of my CAGED questions that I’ve been trying to figure out. I can’t thank you enough, Stich.
Well thought out.... I haven't heard many people be able to "crack his code".
You really do capture his style... His very unique, extremely hard to imitate, style.
Holy smokes. That was an epic lesson! Thanks Ian
Thanks , I’m waiting for your next live feed , which you said you will discuss more about phrasing and your previous live feed which was truely brilliant .
dude, your laid back style of lessons is very easy to follow..keep up the great work.
Love your lessons man! You've really taken my playing to another level and I love it. Keep it up!
I just talk about that little chord, the “secret sauce” one, as the first inversion triad of the major chord. I try to think about the triads when I’m playing, but this gives me a way of thinking about them that wouldn’t have occurred to me. Great video!
Thanks for unlocking more secrets for us Stich!
This was fantastic. Such a cool jam. Thanks Ian!
Got to see my first phish shows this summer. All three nights at alpine. Got to see that 37 minute ruby waves
thank you! your lessons make so much sense now
What a great practical Trey lesson. GOt a heap out of that. An such simple concepts that can be implemented in my playing !! Love your work man!
Love it Ian. What a great way to practice major pentatonics and bend the other than chord tones. Which of course makes you learn the chord tones as well.
I realize there is another reason I really like this lesson. Ian, I think it is masterful the way you choose a position, and then simply move that position as the chord changes. This makes it simple to keep a particular pattern in your head and very it a little bit for each particular chord. As you get better and better at this, and choose differing patterns, once you get comfortable you can start to mix and match, ultimately keeping your hand in one position. I particularly like moving the patterns, because I believe it creates some nice distinctive melodic lines as the chords pass by.
Just great, Ian. I love this jam.
Thank you so much for this! I learned more from this video than any guitar lesson I've had.
loved this lesson - great job!
Sweet! thanks again, Ian!
Awesome stuff man thank you!!
Excellent!!
Leaving your mistakes in is actually really helpful for me, thank you!
One of your best Stich
This is a great lesson! You should start a series "50 shades of Trey" where you highlight various techniques and motifs of his playing
50 shades of Trey...lol...I love it!
Great lesson! I love that jam
Just incredible Stitch. I love how you make Trey’s complicated playing actually very “simple”. Thanks! Best wedge ever is chicago 2014 imo. Cheers.
...or should that be: Trey's "complicated" playing (is) actually very simple?
Thanks for the demystification!
mwrowe222 was making a play with words and phish songs I know stitch would get
6 minutes in and my mind is blown!
Nice job Stich!
Great stuff. Thanks 👍🏽
This one looks super fun
Can not wait to follow this lesson on my soon to be purchased Phred
By the way, thank you for talking me into the guitar workshop. You’re the man!
Email me at StichMethod@gmail.com😬😬👍
Great lesson!
You are the man!
I haven't watched yet,but I love it already.lol.one of my favorite phish tunes
Thank you!
As a drummer, and lover of Phish and Trey very fascinating stuff. Good work.
This is awesome! Explained so well. I'd love to see a similar video about the Divided Sky jam section. Great playing!
In The Mind of Trey Anastasio: Divided Sky Jam Guitar Lesson ua-cam.com/video/67-2uhuUy4g/v-deo.html
Great video! Thanks for posting, just subbed too 🤗
This lesson has changed my life. Thank you!!
Really? That’s awesome! I glad it had a positive effect!
StichMethod Guitar Yes! I have been stuck in a soloing rut (especially learning Trey) and this lesson totally opened up a whole new world for me.
When that note stands your hair up on end….😳😵💫🤯😭THAT is what separates the heard. We need ALL the Trey lessons we can get. TY sir. And good luck folks 🤣
Thanks!
Dude! Thank YOU so much! So glad you enjoyed the video!!
Damn I love that song!
One of their best. Always love this song at a concert. Take the highway!
You rock man.... I was jamming along with last night's versions of this from MSG. Trey was blowing me away and I just couldn't find his sound and the key of A was not working!!! I googled "what mode is the wedge" and this came up and explained it all.
Awesome to hear!!! So glad you liked it!
Thank you for making these phish videos!!!!!!
So fricken good
Awesome instruction. I’ve been playing for 25 years and never distilled solo theory down to “don’t bend chord tones” great advice and that will change my solos. Thanks!!
BUT, don't be afraid to bend 5s up to 6s... that works too
StichMethod Guitar Thanks! I do that all the time. But I have SUCH a tendency to stay in the E pentatonic form in the tonic key. This helped remind me to move around with the chords of the song. But I’ve never approached soloing in the terms you described it as not bending the chord tones. I’ll definitely implement that approach. Made a ton of sense to me so thanks again!!
Fun and clear... thanks for another doozy of a lesson! All hail Machine Gun Stich
Lots of good info here that's applicable to all areas of playing. Thanks for posting!
Hi, I just saw Peter Frampton in DC last night in his Final Tour due to illness, and was impressed by his lead guitar and blues. Would you consider doing a video on his lead guitar method in something like Do You Feel Like I do, as it is so well known and liked? Would love to see your take on it. His blues album is amazingly number one on Billboard right now in the blues genre.
With lime stone blocks so large....
Peter Luger’s Steak House in Brooklyn serves their own signature steak sauce but it’s recommended to dip bread into it, not steak. Ha. Great steak sauce reference though. I totally got it. And, breakthrough video for me. Thank you!
27:27 - "Trey's pretty good at this." LOL ya think? ;-) Thanks for another great video. SOOOOOOOO awesome.
Absolutely the best-Stitch RULES! I cannot find that Wedge backing track anywhere-any idea? Would love to use it when jamming using this stitch method!!
Thank You, Keep up the Strong Work! Do you find bending the non chord notes, sliding the 3rd,and 5th, to be a common theme in Trey’s playing with other Phish solos? Are these techniques of the CAGED method?
Yes and yes
Any major chord outside of key is Lydian. B is the 4th of F#. Play F# major scale over B. C# Major over the F# chord. Simpler way to think is F#minor scale over E and D, F# Major scale over B F# Lydian over F#.
👍👍Great chord progression!
While I agree that introducing the Pentatonics forms by highlighting the Major Triads and exploring the 2 color notes with bends is super helpful for beginners...
it should be noted that guitar improvisations do not generally benefit from moving your hand position directly in parallel response to the chord movement. It's fundamentally important to learn each area of the neck and employ the 5 forms, and then only move your hand position for an independent musical purpose...which is definitely how Trey approaches it! When the chord moves up or down, he often moves in the opposite direction (if he changes fret position at all). It's one of the many things that distinguishes him from Jerry.
New to your channel - thanks for the great content! Have you (or will you) done a lesson on the playing of Warren Haynes?
Oohh, I’ve always had one on my mind. Hopefully I can get to it sooner than later
@@StichMethodGuitar I can't wait! Might I suggest something like "Mother Earth" as a basis... anything but Soulshine as that is the one everyone focuses on... and it is such a small bit of what he does!
Slide from major 3rd to the minor 3rd is like Run For The Rose's. Trey said he stole that from jer in guitar player mag.
The Jones Beach 7/12/13 solo is my favorite.
My home venue!
how are you enjoying your dockstar? thanks for the lessons.
Love it
I’ve also ordered a dockstar but I’m just wondering how long it took you to get yours?
The best part is watching you get siked up about a song you love!
Just wait for my next Trey video! I can’t even contain my enthusiasm
Can you do "Down with Disease”?
How's the guitar turned?
Any way you could post your backing track? Can't get Emil's tabs backing tracks to work for some reason
Hey Stich, who would you say has a wider range of overall genius on the fret board, between Maher and Trey, and why?
Trey, just listen to the album Rift. That’s the only answer you need.
How do you come so close to his final soloing tone? He’s got a very custom guitar with about 15 pedals, and very specific pre-amps & heads.
Dumb question: what guitar brand are you playing in this video?
🍄
😁🤪
is that a paul languedoc guitar?
It’s a Phred Instruments Dockstar. ❤️👍
On the radio? Lol
Stich, maybe you've seen but here's a fun vid of Trey joining in at 15:00.....but best at 45:00+ . And thx for all the great work here!! ua-cam.com/video/fmiBiYVSRqY/v-deo.html
I was there😬
I’m buuiiiiillding you a pyramid
It's taken me almost two hours to get to 17:02 - I've been pausing, rewinding, getting out notes and comparing, rewinding again ~ going to be back tomorrow
Oh, I'm within the first 1'000 views and 100 likes - do I win a prize? ;-)
But are you enjoying it?
Oh yes, quite the challenge to understand, but therein lies the fun
My drummer seemed to be indifferent because " we could do this all night".
Ummmm....you are my new best friend. Hi best friend.
Hey John, how have you been, friend
This is only one aspect trey playing also he does this melodic minor scale thing full step half step thing always
But good job showing this aspect
In this song? Not sounding rude, just want to hear the examples.
If they meat is good, you shouldn’t need A-1 sauce.
Yep, I liked it before I even watched it. What about it...
😂
Lol.me too.
Phenomenal lesson! Even though I was never into Phish for whatever reason, I really enjoy connecting to Trey Anastasio's spirt through his techniques.
