with his type of music it is completely understandable to want to keep it only his, because it is near impossible to achieve a musical creation with the raw and genuine emotion from downward spiral with multiple people, the entire album is about regret, isolation, anger, addiction and alienation. so naturally it would be hard to both find someone who designs music in a similar way to him who has also gone through the same exact struggles, and thinks the same exact way.

Trent Reznor such a special dude. It’s really cool to see him from when I was a teenager to now a grown adult winning awards for music he has on movies.
Trent speaks from his own mindset and this guy deserves a lot respect ...more, because,"Great minds think alike"...."Great minds think alike however.....orgininality...means everything to a very large audience." Keep it real all original Trent because this is what your fans respect you for.
I got to meet Chris Vrenna once at a goth club in Philly quite a few years ago. He was a guest DJ for the main floor where the stage was for the live goups and merch tables. He came down to take a piss and I caught him and asked him to sign my Alice soundtrack, which amazed him because it's not what he was used to signing. We talked for awhile about a lot of things and then the music just stopped on the main dance floor. He said; Oh shit...I gotta cue up some more music and take a piss, and I'll be back. He actually showed back up as promised. We talked for a bit, great guy really lol we were both a bit drunk tbh.
Robin merged well into Trent's musical style.. quite perfectly actually. He was in sync with Trent's mind and even played his solos in Trent's unique style.
This is one of the reasons I fell in love with everything Trent made or touched... beginning with PHM and Broken... You can really feel Trents influence in Marilyn Manson's Antichrist Superstar... Back when they WERE friends, also released on Nothing Records, Trents label... Don't believe me? Listen to Smells like Children and Downward Spiral, and then compare them to Anti-Star and see which one feels more like the other... BTW, Prince also often played all the instruments when laying tracks in studio... The more you know...
I've been telling ppl forever everytime music is the conversation I'll always bring up Trent Reznor and his exceptional musical abilities and it's surprising to me the amount of folks who had no clue that he has a savant level gift. I feel like he should get more recognition
