  • In this video I share with you the signs and symptoms of a bad track bar on your truck. I give real world examples of what to look for in order to help you with your potential track bar problems. Death Wobble is the top leading cause of a failed Track Bar. I decided on replacing my track bar with a Synergy MFG (Manufacturing) Adjustable Track Bar.

    Hey buddy, your video helped me so much. I replaced so many parts on the front of my truck until I watched your video and discovered it was the track bar.

    Hi, thanks for the great video and info. Mine's a used '15 Jeep Wrangler, terrible death wobble and reputable mechanics have said the track bar and bushings are good. Most feel the stabilizers need to be replaced (but that's not a "fix" or so I've read/ watched videos so many times!). I have an appt with an off-road suspension specialist and I'm pretty confident that we'll find track bar/ bushings failures. Thank you!! That death wobble is VERY scary, especially on the highways as you mentioned!

    My husband and I just bought a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport 4x4 with the Hurricane engine. The day AFTER purchasing it, we experienced the infamous "death wobble" four times while taking it out for our second drive with the top down. (Whew, scary I must say!) Fortunately, nothing happened. We slowed down and resumed our trip home. The used car dealership was great and took it back for repairs with a NO cost to US reassurance. (God is so good!) :-)
    After researching possible causes and fixes on the internet, I discovered this video. Let me say first that I am not a mechanic, but the way that you very simply and thoroughly described the trouble shooting and the thought processes behind all of this with plenty of verbal explanations, videos, and diagrams were so helpful. You've given US the knowledge and resources to discern and fix the issue. I was beginning to think that maybe I should try to get out of the purchase, but thanks to you I don't think that I will.
    Thank you for taking your time to help OTHERS by making this video. God's given you a heart for others and a gift to teach in my opinion. God bless!!
    P.S. Coming from a retired school teacher, take this to heart please. Keep up the good work!!

    Hey, good video. I have a 17 f150 4x4. It’s been having the “wobble” since I took it off-road a few times earlier this year. I went over some real bad bumps at too high of speeds. It has a 2.5 inch level with 285 70 17 tires. The steering wheel doesn’t shake unless I go over a bump, but when I do it SHAKES like crazy. It feels like the tires are going to fly off while driving. I’ve taken it to Ford (before it was so bad) and they swore it was just because it was off-road wheels and tires. I believed it at first, except the problem has gotten progressively worse since. I believe I have the exact issue you’re describing and it’s a failing track bar.
    I just wanted to see what you had to say about it because I have taken my truck to 3 different mechanics and they don’t seem to know much about truck issues such as these. I was almost going to trade in my truck until I saw this video.
    Probably failing track bar? It wobbles at low speeds as well, even drive through the parking lot speeds. I would like to keep my truck but I don’t want to spend a bunch of money paying people to diagnose something they know nothing about and still have the wobble risking my life at highway speeds.
    Thanks for your input if you have time at any point. I really appreciate it

    Man you explained everything my truck is doing right now. I hit a small bump and it shakes like crazy. I have to slow down in the middle of the road to get it to stop.
    Ive replaced ball bearing and joints, my tie rod, wheels balanced and rotated. But no mechanic ive been to have said anything of a track bar. Ive spent so much money trying to fix it. I was just about to buy a whole new suspension system. But this just may be the fix.

    Thank you for the video,
    My 04 Grand Cherokee WJ is making a clunking noise only when turning the vehicle right. I did recently, have new ball joints, shocks, upper and lower control arms, all new tie rod ends, sway bar end links, wheel bearings and cv axles. I just got this noise after replacing the cv axles and wheel bearings. I also installed a front lunchbox locker (automatic Powertrax No Slip). I have front axle disconnect, and when I tested it with the wheels up it only made the typically ratcheting noise.
    I am thinking that the track-bar is worn bushings on one side, and when the weight of the vehicle shifts it is popping. You think this is a possibility? Thanks

    Good information and welcome from a fellow RV transporter. I have a 16 Ram 4500 and I've been experiencing wandering in the steering in the front end for a long while now. On a flat road it's not that noticeable, but when roads are rutted from heavy trucks or uneven pavement, the truck will just wander in either direction and it takes lots of correction to get it back in line... and will often times just be continuous on bad roads. New tires, alignments, all front end components looked over, and no one can seem to figure it out. What might you suggest? Thanks!

    • @HighMileageHelper
      @HighMileageHelper  4 роки тому

      Justin Barnes Hey! Thanks for reaching out! What you are describing has several potential culprits. If this video didn’t pin down the track bar as the main problem for you, I would consider your steering linkage.
      Your steering box may have play in it. Which a slight degree of play turns out to be quite a bit at the tire. If you can turn your wheel and the drag link doesn’t pivot, then that might be the answer. This would most likely describe your wandering and trying to chase the straight line back and forth.
      If your actually tie rod ends are loose or worn, it can still pass spec but when you hit that lumpy road your tie rods may be loose enough to let your tires wander and fight each other. The combined slightly wandering of each tire may account for the wander.
      My last thought would be your wheel bearings. It’s possible that your wheel(s) bearings have play in them and yet they haven’t fully failed yet and set off your abs light. I would check out the proper way to check if wheel bearing(s)are bad.
      Lastly, I would consider your steering shaft going through the floor. There is a very small u-joint (near your pedals:looks like an aluminum short shaft) that has a rubber bushing that wears out. You can turn the wheel back and forth and potentially see the u-joint ends knocking back and forth. I currently have this problem in my truck and found a cheap temporary fix. This last one seems ridiculous but it’s one of the last things people ever consider.
      I will be putting out a video once I test out the fix more thoroughly. I don’t want to give garbage “help” lol

      Wow! Thanks so much for taking the time to go thru the causal possibilities. I did have a tech say one of my wheel bearings was bad about 6 mos ago, but the other was perfect - so he replaced the bad one. Hoped that was gonna fix it, but really nothing improved. They examined the front-end components, and said all looked perfect. They also tightened the adjustment nut on the steering box - but minimally as they said there wasn't much adjustment left. No improvement there either. I really think it might be steering box related though as it all seems to originate in that area first.... but i'm just not sure and I am afraid of taking it to a Ram dealer and being taken advantage of.
      Many blessings to you for your kindness my friend... nice to know there are fellow Christians out on the road among us. Drive safe and maybe we will cross paths out there.

      Justin Barnes You are so welcome! All I want to do in life is to be a helper, help people know Christ and to help people with anything else I might know.
      Yea it sounds like it’s further away from the wheel in one failed part in the chainlink of tires - steering wheel. Before you go replacing the steering box, I would just strongly consider and inspect that in-cab part that can wear out.
      The original video creator(s) I watched talk about it said people chase loose steering by replacing the whole front end and still don’t get results because they don’t continue following the steering all the way up the drive shaft. Again, I’ll be recording that video as soon as I can showing what the problem is and then how to fix it. 521k and mine is begging to just be put out of its misery lol. I can turn the steering wheel and yet the tires don’t turn. Likewise, tires get slightly turned due to road conditions (seems like what you are describing) and yet my steering wheel is still straight.
      If you want to FaceTime sometime and just check it out together I’d be happy to at least help rule it out. Sorry for writing a book lol hope you’re having a great night!

    I have 53,000 miles on my Ram 3500 and have gone through 3 sets of tires. The front tires always wear out towards the outsides. I'm wondering if that could be a sign of a bad track bar?

  • @b-17wingman37

    Did it get corrected or did the issue get masked for a while by the new track bar ? Here is a hint to what the main issue is. What is the pitman arm doing during the wobble ?

    • @HighMileageHelper

      Unfortunately I don’t. What you may see in the video however, is a layer of oil from my leaking valve cover that has cracked plastic. It’s nearly $500 I’ve seen for brand new or aftermarket. And because it’s not performances based I won’t be dropping that kind of money on a luxury part until more important things are addressed first.

    I've got this happening on my f250 2012 diesel where at 55 to 60 mph the tires go back and forth..Is it the track bar or could it be bad ball joints for my truck has some movement on the lower ball joints but track bar is solid..was thinking about upgrading to bd trackbar but was wondering if ball joints could cause this wobble too.

    • @HighMileageHelper
      @HighMileageHelper  4 роки тому

      hlr029 Hey thanks for reaching out! I definitely think ball joints could cause that. My more likely suspect if it’s not the track bar bushings would be the steering linkage(since it’s both tires and not just one side). Overall, I believe that would give more play than the ball joints alone.
      My opinion is that we always want to work our way down the line of most impactful parts, which usually means going from the steering wheel down to the tire.
      1. Track Bar (Separate, Highest impact)
      2. Steering Column being loose
      3. Gear Box being loose
      4. Steering Linkage being loose
      5. Ball Joints play
      6. Hub assemblies going out
      Email me and I can FaceTime with you to help if you’d like! God bless and stay safe!

      @@HighMileageHelper thanks bud I was wondering about the steering linkage to,being that the dampner on top is definitely shot and the whole bar has a ton of play in it as well..

    • @HighMileageHelper
      @HighMileageHelper  4 роки тому

      hlr029 The steering dampener is like the icing on the cake in my opinion. That only masks the real problems elsewhere. Great to have but it only adds support to the other components that should be taking the bigger blows.
      I would replace the bushings in Bar(then reassess), then linkage and see where you are at from there.

      John EM Thanks for reaching out! Well, I’ve had the power steering pump do that, ball joint wear create that at higher speeds, and track bar shaking rapidly with bump steer at those speeds. Death wobble is the end result with our straight axles😭😂

      Jamye Moore Hey Jamye! Thanks for sharing! And that’s very interesting you suggest transfer case because I just experienced mine nearly exploding after I heard growling and then chains whipping the bottom of my cab. I had it replaced the other day and it’s gone completely.
      So I would just add that maybe it depends on where you’re hearing the growling/vibration? Directly underneath you verses in front at the axle distance.. I’m sorry you had to go through that too Jamye but hopefully you weren’t injured by anything coming through the floor. I’ve heard some wild things like that happening!
