I agree. And I understand why you saved the best episode for last. In the episode before it , they said Kiff and Anys kids will reach land in 20 years and since 20 years have passed in the Futurama episode and in real life, was that intentional from the start?
The "Current Social issue + 1000 Years" formula never worked for the earlier seasons for me either. The streaming wars gets a pass, since its their first one back, but the crypto episode was a lazy premise to have an old west type episode without leveraging time travel, or another planet/universe story element. Amy and Kiff episode was actually pretty heart warming, and I wasn't expecting a lot from it, but it wasn't social commentary, and it was more about the characters.
Honestly I feel like this review was made a bit early because I agree with the mixed feelings about the fourth episode but I REALLY liked the 5th one. Actually felt like a brief return to form lol.
Always like Futurama for the level of care for the story and characters. When it first came out it was a neat idea. A man from the turn of the millennium only to be awoken in the next turn of the millennium. So it was basically a satire on how even though things have changed they still operate in the same way. Only futuristic! Each episode was like a time capsule. Even if some episodes were of the time, it was written so well that the themes still carry over. Like watching old episodes of the Simpsons, which is actually quite fitting! Unfortunately you can see a change in quality when something goes from a story written by love, to a story written for profit. I’m just hoping Futurama doesn’t fall into that dark pit
I'm glad people are not only collectively tired of "adult" show, but tired of shows being "meta" as well. We get it, you're self aware, but I don't need you to constantly patting yourself on the back for how self aware you are.
@@debater452 What I'm talking about is that writers are are going to say that lockdown were necessary; having to get vexed with several boosters in order to do anything was good idea and anyone questioning that are stupid.
The reason for so much metahumor is so the writers can call out their own faults/bad writing habits before the critics can. Kinda gives the writers control over what is and how it's said.
I miss the way they used to incorporate science and math into the show. I miss the little gags like"Studio 1²2¹3³," klein bottles, or Gender Neutral Pac-person lol
honestly compared to other recent reboots this one is actually not bad i feel like the crew are just trying to find their stride again and just need a little more time
Someone needs to invent a cartoon that set in the 2000s, and *all* of the episode plot points would be cultural references of the past, as a means to poke fun at how dated shows get when they rely on referencing the current instead of making a unique story.
Love the choice of music for this one. But yea, this is exactly what I expected. The same two issues I had with the Comedy Central era. The social commentary episodes and episodes just being whole plot references, like the bible one, the Da Vinci Code one and the Among Us one.
Hate to “well, acktually”, but the “imposter” episode (Murder on the Planet Express) actually predates Among Us. It was more of a reference to The Thing, which Among Us also took influence from (iirc).
@@foxtoons1999 Absolutely. 2013 vs 2018 is a huge gap. It's just one of those things where no one's gonna be able to think of that type of plot the same way again thanks to Among Us. Like whenever someone sees a diving suit and calls it a Big Daddy. Or every creepy animatronic is now FNAF.
The Horse (The Product) in relation to the Cart (The Money) or even the proximity of that analogy is about as instinctual as you think it is. You are never wrong when you think something is a big fat sellout.
Compared to other reboots, remakes, revivals, etc., this feels like a breath of fresh air. If the new seasons do what made the old ones great in the first place, maybe they won't be so horrible.
I know you generally cover animation, but I was wondering since it's kinda related what your thoughts on the iCarly reboot were. I kinda found myself disappointed by it...
20 episode season, split in half. Episode five seemed to improve on these, and I imagine how the next five go will really determine peoples outlook on the Hulu revival
who knows, maybe it'll make the first four seem like fucked bastard children that were meant for hulu plant the flag into the series and get back into the swing of things for the writers.
Guess I’ll follow up, the season felt like a true continuation of Futurama’s quality of good to mediocre, which all the runs had. A few good ones including the season finale, but no instant classic though. I guess see what next year’s episodes do.
“It felt like the show was written in 2020” actually I’m pretty sure it WAS written in 2020, we’ve known about the revival since around/before then. They probably just changed some numbers around in the script, the Hulu episode probably was the last one they actually wrote, since they didn’t at the time know who exactly was going to pick them up.
What I really wanna see from this continuation is Zoidberg's girlfriend he had in that one episode from the last season from the past decade. The only person who despite now knowing what he smells like, she decided to still stay with him anyway because she really likes him. I wanna see that relationship develop further, mostly because Zoidberg is my favorite character.
A mixed bag perfectly describes the whole ordeal. We've gotten some good ones "Parasites Regained, The Kiff Gets Knocked Up a Notch Sequel Episode, and even the Momazon one had it's moments" then you have the real stinkers like the Pilot and The Bitcoin Episode; Which while not I don't consider horrendous, they're just not to snuff for the usually decent Futurama writing. I suppose not every episode can be a winner, but sometimes there's a cutting room floor for a reason.
The bit coin episode was pretty interesting by making it western, it goes from a dumb bitcoin episode into a crazy wild west adventure parodying the gold rush
It's funny. He did this as of watching the 4th episode, but in my personal opinion, the fifth episode felt very much like what you would see from the comedy central seasons. I also felt that episode 3 only used crypto as an excuse to make an old western episode without breaking our brains with time travel bullshit. In fact, I felt like the episode didn't really make fun of cryptocurrency at all. The vaccine and Zap canel episodes though...ooh, those titles may be red flags.
Not looking forward to that Zapp episode at all he's barely even been seen in just one episode and he was the funniest character in the original series, you can just tell they plan to neuter his whole character in some lame way
Honestly with how utterly shit the entertainment industry is lately, I'd gladly take an okay season of Futurama over the sea of filth that is for the most part everything else in modern entertainment.
My main issue was how Leela's character was taken this season. The latest episode was how leela should be but the kif and nibler episodes made her look like a joke I find the new episodes serviceable and I can watch them but like king of the hill I'm going through the old stuff at the same time and find them more enjoyable
If everything topical is only going to get dated within a matter of weeks, I’m starting to think the sci-fi genre is going extinct the more technologically advanced society gets.
The thing is I think in all honesty Futurama is a good show but it is one of the shows that doesn't need a revival anymore because it is a generally good show and part of that is because it doesn't have as many seasons as something like The Simpsons or South Park so it has never had the chance to get really bad, because they can tell new stories with the show and haven't used up every story and turned all the characters into complete caricatures of themselves. I'm of the mind that letting something go on for too long is what kills a series and Futurama doesn't need to get to that point and I hope it never does. As long as this revival is the final one and they don't try and revive the series again I will be happy even if the series is a little lower in quality than the original or comedy central episodes because don't forget Billy West, John Dimaggio and Maurice Lamarche and Phil LaMarr are all getting pretty old as voice actors so they might not be as good as they were in their younger years.
Honestly, I agree when it came to the 2nd and 3rd episodes. But I really liked the 4th, 1st and 5th episodes alot. Still better than the comedy central run.
One thing that I'm not sure if it has been mentioned but the opening scene in the Animaniacs reboot mentions that it took them 2.5 years or so in order to get the series out. Now, of course, this is a completely different show altogether, but I bring it up because it's a revival of a show with most of it's voice actors coming back (from what I remember) funded by Hulu. I think these episodes were drafted in 2021, maybe even in 2020, and are just being released which could explain why it feels extremely dated on some aspects.
Maybe it's just me, but it seems that the biggest letdown in all of this was the writing. All the right pieces were there, but the writing felt so hollow or contrived
Truthfully; I had no Complaints about the new episodes. . . and I'd Rather have Mostly Good/Not Bad Episodes for a season; then having a season with a few Animated atrocities & a Few Admirable Animations!!
I didn't start watching Futurama for the meta humor. I watched because seeing the future was cool. The aliens/ species, ray guns, spaceships, different planets. I didn't really like Syfy prior to this but Futurama really made me a fan.
the meta commentary in ep1 is fine when you take it as them talking to the audience saying to give the show a chance, they do literately say in the episode that they only brought the show back because the ideas were there
I understand your opinion about reboots. I’m the same way reboots, remake, spin-off I’m extremely skeptical of because it’s a shot in the dark if it will stick. Only a few of these I actually really liked (I can count on one hand) but all other reboots spin-offs and remakes i don’t like very much
Yeah I think you're right. This revival hasn't been amazing but it hasn't been bad either. But yes children of a lesser bog definitely stands out as a pretty solid episode with heart
i think that a lot of people my self included had thought that ths series was dione and it seems that they are trying to fill holes that were left unancered which is a good start but i think theyu are trying to get there footing
I would say our waste disposal issues will ALWAYS be an issue. So basically the main disagreement there. Its just that it varies. Its less and less rotting food on barges and more and more gasses and particulates in the atmosphere and microplastics and whatever other new thing that we do that finally is causing enough problems that no really we need to make it just as demonized as barges full of rotting food and paper products. Not that rotting food is out of date (see: the entire first world food industry even now), its just that the type of waste being focused on has changed. I could go on about such things, but suffice to say that landfills being bad was naive relative to other options in the end for the most part, in part BECAUSE of half-assed attempts to do just a bit better ending up just making more or worse things, or doing nothing even remotely near stopping the damages being caused.
Put simply, the jokes and references are so on the nose the episodes instantly date themselves. None of the setups are tongue in cheek. Even the nerdy jokes arnt small and sprinkled. You literally have oi be a nerd to understand the show. Me and mrs watched the crypto episode. I had to pause and explain every few minutes because none of it makes sense to people not understanding cryptocurrency.
cause the writers think that being smart is knowing something that others don't, put simply, the older ones would have made a crypto episode parodying robots or something, like bender learns of this new lottery that gets him millions of dollars, than he does his thing, gets like 50k NFTs, not knowing what that means he "collects" his winnings, realizing its not cash, he burns all of them, than someone tells him how it works and bender screams no, that's how I at least would do an episode like that, I believe the older writers are too pussy-fied to do so. And for clarity, that should be a subplot, get-rich-quick schemes should be subplots.
@@doctorgrubious7725 that would be better. It references the subject. Changes it enough to work and be explained in episode. Now people can not know the reference while being in on some of the jokes, while also keep all of the characters in character. It'd make sense 20 years later from now similar to the slurm factory since everyone gets how q sweepstakes works.
There was a rumor going around that John Dimaggio wouldn't be returning as the voice for Bender, unless they heavily reworked his contract; did that turn out to be true?

As somebody who didn’t watch a lot of Futurama, yet never liked remakes or meta humor, I can definitely see where are you coming from. Unless it’s something creative that was wasted or poorly constructed, any remake, spin-off or sequel should remain the exact same thing as the original content, without any changes AT ALL. NEVER try to change something that was already perfect the way it is. Even the smallest changes are enough to completely ruin a beloved franchise, take Jellystone or Tiny Toons as examples. If you wanna revive something beloved, revive at as the way it was. The exact way people loved it and the exact way people wanna remember it. P.S I pray to lord I’ll never see that clip of Velma again. Every time I see it I just feel part of my good nature shatter… 😤
This does take my back, I enjoyed Futurama when it began so many years ago and still find its first run better than most current Adult Comedy now, including Rick and Morty. As for the revivals, have never bothered with them and this latest one sounds dated already and Futurama use to be ahead of the times. Sometimes its best to just keep a show dead, so therefore you do not let it run dry like Futurama is now.
Yeah, we live in the year 2023 and here we have Futurama making plotlines about NFTS and Covid, stuff that's already been beaten to a dead horse before this revival even premiered.

Love the use of Jehtt in this video!
Waiting for Enter to come back a year later with this as an Admirable Animation saying it's NOT a "mixed bag".
I'm glad people are not only collectively tired of "adult" show, but tired of shows being "meta" as well. We get it, you're self aware, but I don't need you to constantly patting yourself on the back for how self aware you are.
Yes, you're aware that you have problems. But what are you going to do about them? Nothing? Then get lost, you're not worth my time.
I haven't seen that in this season at all
That explains the Sonic Heroes music, we had a clip from the game in this video! Well, sort of.
This is going to be good, and it was. One of my favorite channels and i hope it peaks again
“Futurama Reboot is Underwhelming” and to think we still haven't gotten the cringe we're going to get from the COVID-19 episode.
What are you talking about
@@debater452 What I'm talking about is that writers are are going to say that lockdown were necessary; having to get vexed with several boosters in order to do anything was good idea and anyone questioning that are stupid.
Ah, so it's a lurching parody of itself. Gotcha.
so far my favorite episode from the reboot is the one regarding Kiff and Amy's children. It's funny but also heartwarming. More like this please!
The reason for so much metahumor is so the writers can call out their own faults/bad writing habits before the critics can. Kinda gives the writers control over what is and how it's said.
What did Enter use to say back in the day? Right, "Pointing out your problems does not make them go away."
I miss the way they used to incorporate science and math into the show. I miss the little gags like"Studio 1²2¹3³," klein bottles, or Gender Neutral Pac-person lol
honestly compared to other recent reboots this one is actually not bad
i feel like the crew are just trying to find their stride again and just need a little more time
Now it’s time for the ULTIMATE reboot review…
“What did SCOOBI do?!”
Children of a lesser bog IS a meta episode. It was 20 years later. If you know you know
Everyone knows man, they say it in the episode...
The fact that Hulu brought this back from the dead just fuels my hatred for that streaming service. It should have stayed ended in 2013.
but monhey
At least the bit coin episode wasn't just milking the nostalgia cow
I seen all 5 episodes its fine nothing special
The Horse (The Product) in relation to the Cart (The Money) or even the proximity of that analogy is about as instinctual as you think it is. You are never wrong when you think something is a big fat sellout.
Futurama: The show that will never die.
I think it keeps getting better with each episode.
Or it’s being produced by people who still think it is 2020.
@@RetroDark2008 They definitely did they best they could with the subject matter.
Not looking forward to that Zapp episode at all he's barely even been seen in just one episode and he was the funniest character in the original series, you can just tell they plan to neuter his whole character in some lame way
I wouldn't judge them yet
Disney is gonna make more phineas and ferb seasons, can’t wait for them to let me down
l see. l Iove how predictabIe this gonna be!
Honestly with how utterly shit the entertainment industry is lately, I'd gladly take an okay season of Futurama over the sea of filth that is for the most part everything else in modern entertainment.
My main issue was how Leela's character was taken this season. The latest episode was how leela should be but the kif and nibler episodes made her look like a joke
I find the new episodes serviceable and I can watch them but like king of the hill I'm going through the old stuff at the same time and find them more enjoyable
Your voice audio was noticeably clearer this episode, just wanted to say.
Even worse, they already did a bunch of meta jokes about the show being cancelled the last time it was revived.
If everything topical is only going to get dated within a matter of weeks, I’m starting to think the sci-fi genre is going extinct the more technologically advanced society gets.
I’m just saying when Futurama ends again and I mean ends forever, they better find a way to Top the season finale they did 10 years ago
My favorite episode is definitely when Kif and Amy had kids, it was heartwarming and showed those 2 matured as characters as well.
It's been to long since you did a Futurama admirable animation
out of the 5 episodes so far, I liked "How the West Was 1010001" and "Related to Items You've Viewed"
Sonic Heroes music makes me happy
Maybe it's just me, but it seems that the biggest letdown in all of this was the writing. All the right pieces were there, but the writing felt so hollow or contrived
Truthfully; I had no Complaints about the new episodes. . . and I'd Rather have Mostly Good/Not Bad Episodes for a season; then having a season with a few Animated atrocities & a Few Admirable Animations!!
I did like the crypto episode since I do think is a clever way to make the western parody for a futuristic world
I'm actually liking it a fair amount so far.
Your voice sounded so different at the start I had to double check who I was watching, but I’m assuming you got a better mic since I last watched lmao
I’m curious what you think of the new episode (ep 5) since most people agree it’s the best so far.
If they do an episode on AI.....Oh boy, are we in for something.
I didn't start watching Futurama for the meta humor. I watched because seeing the future was cool. The aliens/ species, ray guns, spaceships, different planets. I didn't really like Syfy prior to this but Futurama really made me a fan.
Personally, I don't mind the revival. It feels like the same futurama I've always known.
Considering how trailer literally used 3 modern topics I sadly expected it to be underwhelming
the meta commentary in ep1 is fine when you take it as them talking to the audience saying to give the show a chance, they do literately say in the episode that they only brought the show back because the ideas were there
Then show us that chance
@@AkameGaKillfan777 I think episode 2 did a great job of that
I understand your opinion about reboots. I’m the same way reboots, remake, spin-off I’m extremely skeptical of because it’s a shot in the dark if it will stick. Only a few of these I actually really liked (I can count on one hand) but all other reboots spin-offs and remakes i don’t like very much
i gotta see it myself.
I can't wait for your 200th animated atrocity
The friggin Ocean Palace music opening this video was better than the reboot!
I know Meanwhile ended with "What do you say? Want to go around again?"
But yeah, I'm a little sad that it's not the true end of the show.
“Everyone and their pet chicken thinks they can write satire.” On the flipside, no one thinks they can write an actual story, apparently.
I like that it’s not too drawn out like some other TV show reboot
Yeah I think you're right. This revival hasn't been amazing but it hasn't been bad either. But yes children of a lesser bog definitely stands out as a pretty solid episode with heart
I say give it a chance. It clearly has the spirit, and is trying to improve.
The Best Sci Fi Comedy is Killer Klowns from outter Space.
i think that a lot of people my self included had thought that ths series was dione and it seems that they are trying to fill holes that were left unancered which is a good start but i think theyu are trying to get there footing
I kind of wanna see you do a top 10 best futurama episodes
Honestly, I get the apprehension, but I'm having a lot of fun with this one.
There was a rumor going around that John Dimaggio wouldn't be returning as the voice for Bender, unless they heavily reworked his contract; did that turn out to be true?
What’s sad to me is the show ended on such a high note I didn’t think it needed any more seasons I still haven’t watched it but yah to me clone highs reboot was the biggest mixed bag of the year award
You cannot convince me that Velma was created for anything besides to breed hatred and spite in people from a hateful and spiteful person.
Yeah, 4 episodes in and I'm just not feeling the same level of excitement for this revival as the the pervious ones, I'm just hoping there'll be a new episode that will wow me.
