So glad to have Rob on the channel. I sold Rob his Diablo while I worked at Lamborghini Atlanta. He was actually the first person I ever had list UA-cam revenue on a credit application. I can't wait to see what happens with this project.
Wow now thats a story Ed! Would love to hear it on VinWiki some day. How Rob bought his Diablo using YT reveune 👌
Love his channel, such a treat (and surprise) to have him on yours. Cheers Ed and thank you for the great content!
Wow!
Thats cool info Ed, thanks for sharing. There might be a long update wait for the completed project. Get some popcorn...lol
Im looking fwd for more, way cool!
Rob: the power goal is gentle
Also Rob: i want 1000whp
Exactly... made me think a horsepower dip was coming, then the wow moment. Can the Tremec take it?
probably
@Conor what would stop it?
@Conor 1000hp seems more than doable for a turbo 4 rotor. Theres a company spelling naturally aspirated 4 rotors that makes 650hp so a 1000hp turbo 4 rotor seems more than doable.
@@sebastiankvyat3915 1000HP on a Turbo 4 Rotor is kinda "Low". like, 1000HP is kinda "low" on a boosted LS. It's absolutly doable for the street, the question is, can the transmission, and the axles and stuff handle it.
Rob: I want to make my C8 look factory so no one knows it has a rotary.
Also Rob: I'm going to wrap it green and orange.
what's louder, the rotary or the green and orange?
can't wait to find out
Gotta have that “Renown” heritage!
What's more boring, hearing this guy talk or watching the green and orange paint dry?
@@assoonaspastablepizza8135 I'd have to say the paint.
meh
Hahaha REVENGE for the LS swapped RX7 and RX8
It's so good to see someone not doing a generic V8 swap. Sure V8's are cool but everyone does them.
He already did a rotary C5
Catinus Z. Awesome! Ima look that up, thanks for the intel.
@@robc1014 he took it to LS fest and got quarantined before it was cool. Hahahaha
Yeah
Rob is a really really smart person, I cannot wait to see the videos.
Gotta watch his channel. Wealth of knowledge
Wasn't expecting a Rob dahm vinwiki crossover but I'm glad I seen this
I'm pretty sure he actually did one a few years ago too. I could be wrong though
@@sunnyhowd5058 he hasn't been on before. I imagine he has a fair few stories to tell though so maybe we'll see him more....
Rotary Daddy Dahm is a legend. I can't wait to see this new project get finished.
This car will need badges from the GM Rotary project, and an XPP number.
That would be fucking epic.
Just the intro going "You can brick the car" made me shiver with fear, looking at the pile of bricked devices (...a wall?) I have in my room from years of experiments.
hey man, I like your brick(ed) wall, where ya get it
Quips N Whips takes years of Oops, and ripping of hair... 🤯😱😂
Pink floyd: another brick you say?
I feel like this, Tavarish's 675 and the Lykan are the three top 2020 UA-cam builds.
@Bryan D. That was last year
Me007Gold and it wasn’t a good looking car in the end to me
@Bryan D. b is for build hahahhahahahahhahahahahaha
Bryan D. That was such a botched job
Good news, Ruby will be hitting 7’s to entertain you until this FINALLY gets built.
Rob: I'm planning on having my rotary powered c8 done by the time the c10 comes out
Anyone else fall asleep during this episode?
@@assoonaspastablepizza8135 not really I found it really interesting
AsSoonAsPastable Pizza we get it... you don’t like him. How many times are you going to complain? 🙄
@@assoonaspastablepizza8135 ...No. We don't all have ADD.
Hey at least he has an engine and the person supposed to help him didn't fuck off
The guy that owned this originally is in my Transam and camaro group... glad to know that this car is still living on.
That guy is a moron apparently for driving fucked up
How did the car even crash if you know?
I heard he got hit and wasn't at fault
On the windows it says dwi victim
Yup, car was in Florida, Black Hyundai was DWi and was uninsured. Passenger of corvette had broken some fingers and the driver got bruising as well as 5 stitches.

Him rotary swapping a car that's already damaged is like my dad's Porsche 914. We put a 1.9l IDI turbo diesel in from a MK3 Jetta. If it was a clean original car we wouldn't have done that, but the previous owner owned a body shop and did a whole bunch of custom bodywork back in the early 2000s. It's the perfect car for what we do with it.
I'm in on this 100%
He's already the smartest person on the internet for buying a salvaged C8!
Can't wait to see this build!
Rob: Talking about not wanting a check engine light
Also Rob: Still has a "low engine power, service soon" warning in the C5
The C5 was cobbled togheter for LS-Fest, It broke down multiple times on the way there. It's clearly still "Work in Progress"
No wonder why Rob has not uploaded recently. He is busy going to Georgia staying with Ed lol
need money for project...
Rob: I’m putting a rotary in a C8. Rabbit: *head explodes*
Rob: I want the guys at the dealership to be "confused" by the engine sound.
Also Rob: Buying the most famous corvette atm for this, posts everything on youtube and on top of that shares his story on the channel, that every dealership is watching to learn shrewd negotiation.
Imagine thinking the average Corvette dealers knowing about Rob lmao
I'm a simple man. I see Rob Dahm talking about doing an insane rotary swap, I click the like button. Some people will love it, some will hate it. It will still sound amazing!
a rotary powered space shuttle has more of a chance of being built and finished before this does.
@@christophers.4007 🤣
@@christophers.4007 putting the rotary in and driving it is easy for him its not having check engine light and all electronics working that will be hard
I’ll admit I clicked on this story not expecting to be super interested because I know nothing about rotaries, but by the end I found myself wanting to follow this build.
His UA-cam channel is Rob Dahm. He has put a 2 rotor in a C5 Corvette and took it to LS Fest West where he got in LS Fest jail. He also took his RX7 and rebuilt it from the ground up. Put in a 4 rotor and made it all wheel drive. Even went as far as to extended the frame and redo all the wiring in the car.
if youve ever eaten doritos then you get the idea
When he finishes this, he needs to go drive with Tavarish’s Ferrari
Rob Dahm on Vinwiki! I've been waiting on this for far too long... :D
Dropping the engine in is a pivotal moment but not the biggest challenge the biggest challenge is making it reliable
I think your confidence level is just as it needs to be to do it! You already convinced yourself, all that’s left is to go do it! You got this...
If I had 1% of this guy's determination I would explore why my delay wipers only work on one speed. 😝

The idea that you can "brick" a car makes me dislike modern cars even more.
To be honest, they are just getting started with cars. Get one now before the really lock things down. They will never stop everyone, but they can make it very hard for all but the very willing to modify a car. Basically they are going the video game console route where every time you want to do something it requires remote "authentication" AKA connecting with home base (the authorized dealership service center). The big auto companies have been nipping around the fringes of this for a few years with limited scanning ability and encryption on ecu coding.
seeing rich rebuilds do stuff with Tesla made me realized that the car is literally a iPhone on wheels
the future is dark for everyone
It's part of what I believe is a very unsettling trend as it applies to private property and right to repair.
Most software EULAs state, you own nothing but the right to use their products. So Apple or Samsung can brick your tablet if you root it, or even try to replace a screen or a battery.
I absolutely hate that this bullshit is spreading to cars too.
@omgwtf696969 it might be possible to brick a TCU or HVAC controls
@Roger Rarebit it's disgusting the way farmers are being denied their right to repair.
the only thing that I hate about rob's c8, is because it has a certificate of destruction title
It will soon be certified Rocket🚀
Some states issue a salvage title. Apparently not Florida
I have a appetite for destruction,,, that as bad ?
To get the title to salvaged status it needs to be put back up to road legal and safe . Some states also called this "rebuilt "
Crazycatman - California is worse. The car will need to pass smog test - meaning all equipment from the intake to the cat has to be CARB legal, AND it has to pass smog requirement numbers for the year the car was made. Typically this also means the engine going in has to be at least as new as the car. There’s no way to put a 1,000 whp rotary engine in a car newer than 1975 in CA, with one exception: some counties don’t require smog checks.
Can we please get more Rob dahm on the channel? He's got some good stories involving his diablo
"Rotaries have only been in traditional 5-speeds"
Eunos Cosmo would like to have a word with you.
Eunos Cosmo sounds like a really cool guy's name
Yeah it's an automatic tho so it doesn't count
He was tripping over his words a bit in the vid. I suspect he meant "...traditionally, 5-speeds." But maybe not.
Aaroncake is restomodding one 👍
I’m so excited for this build
How much faster do you think this will end up?
@@chewyguru IDK, how fast has the 4 rotor been?
Get ready to wait at least a year
@@bettsmorgan11 well worth it in my eyes great content all year round
Wake me up in 10 years and hell be 20 percent of the way there.
😂😜
And he'll have probably blown up the 4 rotor at least another 6 times and it still won't be finished lol
This is exactly why Mazzei Formula is ten million times better.. he has done everything rob will never do except for awd and others have done it..
@@my2cents499 What do you mean? Rob's 4 rotor is so much better engineered than the Mazzei Formula...
I agree that the mazzei formula is a "finished build", but rob's is running and made 1000whp on the dyno already....
Should be faster now that he doesn't have to wait for parts that never show up from the first builder...
@@philipegoulet448 so did mazzei and on top he has been fine tuning his dog box with the paddle shifters sounds like a damn f1 car even at low rpm .. rob has more engineering in his car thats a fact but only bc of the awd and hes not the first person to do it
Rob is such an amazing individual. To learn and grow like he has over the years is amazing
I find it funny that the car has already been banned from LS fest while it still has an LT in it.
Listening to him talk about the project and how he is challenging himself makes this a very genuine project and worth following. How his goal is set out and not just scabbing it together for views is way better then most UA-cam content creators of shock and awe projects. The "yo yo yo what we doing today is putting this lambo engine into a Focus".
Good luck and I will now be following along with this project.
I seen Rob at 7 stock last year. Really wish I would of waited out the crowd to talk. Very intelligent man. I'll be following this build
the first and probably the only time we'll see him being so serious for more than 5 minutes
The most exciting part of this build is this, the passion of Rob doing something not just for UA-cam but for himself.
"Don't quote me on that" - Rob Dahm 2020
Damn that DWI VICTIM on the window mad a lasting impression whoah
I actually knew an engineer who worked on that GM Rotary. His explanation for not going forward with it was that it got abysmal gas mileage, which is pretty meaningful for the time when most cars where well below 30mpg.
Dolby109 it’s a worthless impractical engine design
Bold move. It'll be interesting to see how it works out for 'em, Cotton.
The "DWI Victim" and "I Hate Drunks" pairing on the windows 😅😬
Super idea or sacrilege? What do you think?
VINwiki stupid idea. Let’s exchange a good engine for a turd
I actually think its both...though Rob closes the gap with the Aerovette info. I never knew that had a rotary engine. I think its a cool idea and indeed it avenges the rx7/LS swap guys. But true diehard Vette fans will most likely not like it.
I think everyone needs to stop thinking out loud, watch and learn, its not your time or money Rob is spending. So why is it your problem? Don't like it? Im sure rob feels the same way when he sees people putting ls motors in mazdas
i have no hope on this project of his. with breaking even further the car. i rather more excited on the FASTERPROMS K-swap smartcar.
@@Horazzify ummm... The C8 hasn't even been put that long and tuners haven't even cracked the ECU yet. Knowledge about engines comes with time. For all you know the LT2 could be the biggest burning turd of an engine that requires more attention than a petulant 2 year old to keep it from exploding.
Rob was the first automotive UA-camr I watched. I though him showing what it was like to own a Diablo was amazing
Rob is like Elon musk of rotaries smart and a million ideas at once
Rotary engines are cool but Rob is just looking at the end of his 4 rotor 4wd project and looking for new video material.
It's just mashing up popular UA-cam topics at this point. He probably doesn't know what a Duntov cam is and probably never heard of an AeroVette before he searched "rotary Corvette" or something.
More power to him but let him be his own hype machine.
If it becomes viral, cover it but I would rather see VINWiki cover the Wild Strawberry Garage rebuild of Sluggie, the 1969 Greenwood Corvette vintage racer. He has restored and re-caged the chassis so far and it's basically a roller beside some rear suspension parts that he has to rebuild or replace. The owner Sam still has the engine, transmission, interior, electronics and body work to complete or restore but he's going to race it and he's 25 years old. That's a big car story. Doing a big budget engine swap for UA-cam views is a story involving a car but it's really about something else.
We all wanted the mid engine Vette back then.. ( at least my friends and I did) The joy of seeing the rotary and piston mid-engine concept cars was turned to torture when visiting the showroom... knowing what was already built in Detroit, .... and we were still being fed the 1950s frame under a lackluster envelope.
rob is honestly my idol, he does the craziest stuff and has a reason behind it, i’d be the happiest man on the planet to have half the opportunities that rob has and makes for himself. Very smart guy, lucky to have what he has, and absolutely amazing cars THAT WORK AS INTENDED. plus he’s got the looks I probably won’t have at his age, no homo rob. I can’t wait to meet him one day or even just see one of his cars. awesome guy
1000whp in something as light as a c8 would be uncontrollable wheelspin.
The Delta Driver no torque tho
It's like taking a Corolla and replacing the 1zz engine with a Mopar 2.2L
"it wasn't a coincidence I choose the orange color"
*Processed to tell me there's only been one wrecked C8*
I really respect Rob. He’s probably one of the few youtubers that deals with rotarys. Like everyone on yt do a 2JZ, LS,KA,SR,Kseries swap but you never see no one putting rotaries on American cars.
This guy is super smart! Can’t wait to see this build
I knew the moment i read "rotary swap" this was gonna be a rob dahm interview
I doubt Rob will see this, but GM's repair manual online, ACDelcoTDS, has loads of electrical schematics and diagrams that you can reference. The service isn't very cheap, like around $1k per year, but it has instructions and guides for literally every single repair and schematic for any GM car, including the C8. I would HIGHLY recommend using it, its extremely useful for tracking down all sorts of electrical signals and errors as well as pinouts and general schematics.
@robdahm
RIP to that DCT
I hope it is ready to have 8 neutrals
He wants to keep it tho
He's gonna have to replace most of the internals, then, because he's going to be trying to put over double the factory horsepower through it.
@@chris31795 Not necessarily. There are factory transmissions from cars with less than 500 hp that can handle over 1000.
chris31795 maybe, who knows. Rotarys make very little torque. Might allow it to survive longer that you think.
Rob is a Mad Scientist. He also seems like a very humble and fun person to be around.
We must protect him at all costs.
The thing is, to note the pins voltage when you take the harness from the ecu
Not just hack the harness out and guess.
Nice to see Rob on the channel. After years of waiting for the 4 rotor (and all the mocking around that) it's nice to see him receive the views and support that he deserves.
If he manages to make it work he will be the authority on wiring a C8
I saw this on a flatbed the other day in Alpharetta, thought it was quite fitting to share what was written on the window.
VINwiki is great. So far, there's always been something that's interesting to me. Great presenters. And it's always well done.
I mean he paid 47 thousand for the car but first and foremost he’s going to need to replace tons of things on it that would probably make it equal to the cost of one new. Looks like it has some really mean frame damage. Where is he going to get a hold of all those parts too? The plastics, brackets, trims and panels. Just seems like such an extra hassle
Ah yes, a tame 1000hp. Sick project Rob!
Ill be honest, i didn't even have to open the video to know who this was about. Rob Dahm is the man
Saw the title and knew it was rob dahm
within 28 seconds i knew this fella is pretty switched on,loking forward to seeing hes next challenge
It was so clear that Rob was desperately trying not to agitate the Corvette Mafia. I for one love this modern interpretation of hotrodding.
Well at first I thought this was stupid, but after listening to his goal and dream I’m impressed and can’t wait to see it finished. Best of luck !
Speaking as a former art student: orange, green and violet are secondary colors. Red, yellow, and blue are primary colors. And yes, I realize Rib was most likely using the word 'primary' to mean that orange and green are the main colors of the race car's livery.

@@RobDahm ive been binging your content, great stuff!
Only Rob would do such a thing, and I absolutely respect him for it.
The MAZDA 787B won Le Mans not in 1981 as you mentioned but in 1991. I should know, I was there and it was awesome. Particularly since the big factory teams like Peugeot and Mercedes-Benz had to retire all of their cars and to see Mazda with not only a single car, but a rotary engined one, win the 24 hours.
I fell in love with the sound of rotary when RX-7 came to the then-bleak Peruvian automitive landscape in the 80s. There was one in my neighborhood and the sound was so crazy it was just right. Also, the car looked like nothing else.
When i saw Corvette swapped rotary on the thumbnail i instantly knew that rob is gonna be on the show

Can’t wait to see the gear this build. You bringing it to a dealership. Man that’s going to be amazing to watch. Heck yeah!!!! Love it!!!!!
Great luck to you. The project with the sensors and electronics sounds like a nightmare to me but the sky is the limit. You’re definitely smart enough. Good luck with GM’s schematics.
The fact that people are mad at someone else, for doing something cool that HE LIKES, is absolutely so sad...
Four rotor -- drool. This will be such a cool project. Looking forward to watching it's progress.

Rob, Congratulations on your purchase of the C8, I think I see what your doing. I just watched your video on stopping by the Bowling Green plant and museum. Getting GM on board so you can have some connections when you hit a road block with the software and engine management is a good idea. And you get kind of gitty when you mention it, so you know it's coming.
