Anyone remember when they sold his personal Cobra at Barret Jackson? They asked him to say something about the car, features ect. He then told everyone about the time he hit a buzzard at some triple digit speed and it exploded. 🤣
ah yes truly adding value to the car.
@Fui Gebhardt1 5 million if I recall correctly
Sometimes memories are the only features u need lel
What story is this I WANT TO KNOW
Something funny & unique instead of the obvious stuff everyone probably have seen or know about the car already probably.
We just finished recording the story of the new rental Mustang solo Cannonball record. We will have it edited soon. What an insane drive!
Hurry up jk
Ya, what he said. 😁
Is it still the record? The way things are going, I am expecting some teenager on Tinder to accidentally break the record chasing some cross country "companionship"...
I'm thinking that one might be worth a little bit more because it's the one that set the record, at least for now 😄
Was it rented through Budget?
I feel like Carrol would be your cool Uncle that you want to hang out with.
Back when the police didn't use helicopters or stop stix perhaps. LOL. God Bless 'em!
Wasn't he well known for being a total asshole?
Nice profile pic
Jyt i was just about to comment that
All my uncles (mom’s brothers) are cool uncles that you never get tired of hanging out with.
It may have been refreshing for Caroll to take someone for a ride that wasn’t fawning over him the entire time
He'd go Charlton Heston on the fanboys: : "Git yer damned hands offa me, you dirty ape!"
Couldnt agree more! Travis interaction with Carol is really interesting too. Not knowing vs knowing in this instance leads to the better memory and story!
Absolutely, I’ll never forget the time I went to Circuit des Remparts in France about 12 years ago when I was a fresh faced 18 year old and got chatting to an elder gentleman at a bar who seemed to have some amazing car stories. I’d probably been there half an hour in which time several people had kept interrupting us to introduce themselves to this guy and I asked him why all these people kept coming up to us (thinking he was one of the event organisers)....well....turned out I’d be freely chatting away with Stirling Moss!!!! I think he was just really grateful that someone had been talking with him about our mutual love of cars than because of who he was.
@@marc87supra holly shit that's amazing
This beast's got 500-horsepower and a Borla exhaust system. It does 0-60 in what, 4.3 seconds?
Wow. You can read the brochure.
Nice reference.
Edit:Thanks for the 15 liked
gorrilaunit99 that was the gen 2 viper but I get why you said that
imagine saying that to shelby.
Monte Carlo won on it's roof.
I bet my story is more scary. One time I had to ride with my sister, it was quite terrifying.
I laughed haha sorry
that's nothing...my 88 yrs old mom scared the crap outta me. beat that :)
My sister when she first started driving didnt know how much brake to use so instead of slowly pressing it like a normal person she stomps on it and the instantly lets off only to stomp on it once again
A Moose once bit my Sister
I bet she deserved a spanking
From my understanding, you got off easy. The last pace car story I've heard about Shelby involved him faking a heart attack at 150 MPH.... lol what a man...definitely don't make 'em like that anymore.
"My names Carroll Shelby, and performance is my business."
So, the same man who was able to own a General Lee for a song was also able to be driven by Shelby himself in a Dodge Viper around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and didn't even know it? If that's not proof of God's unmerited favor, I don't know what is.
Mr. Shelby knew the car would go straight since it wasn't a Mustang
I took my daughter out in the GT350 Sunday and I told her-"When you drive this, be aware that the 1-2 shift-under a good amount of power- will get squirrelly (ass end squats & shifts to the left)when you shift for a second and get on the power." Proceeded to show her what I was talking about 3 times so she understood it. Luckily, no bystanders were hurt in the demonstration, lol. Even stayed on the road.
When you know how to drive, and know that not everything goes smoothly, and you are paying attention, things actually do go well.
Damn
@@olikat8 Lol there were no bystanders, that's why
@@THESLlCK LoL- true, 2-lane NC country roads aren't the place to stand around in or next to.
Years ago I worked for an "Indycar driving experience" (Driving 101) at Fontana. Before a customer got their drive they would take a class of them around the track in a 9 passenger van.
One of their favorite tricks was to go into turn one at about 90-95 mph and the driver would turn around and talk to the class all the way through the corner. 😂 The track is so wide and long that you can easily tell where you are just looking out the back. I'm not sure any of the customers (victims) heard anything they were told throughout the whole corner! 🤣
Rest in piece Carol Shelby, great car guy, truly passionate for his job
That’s an incredible story. Guy was a living legend for sure.
You met my idol. I went to the shelby America and got to meet the "modern day" Shelby. He was Carol's best friend for 10 years. He showed me and a buddy around shelby america for 2hrs on a private tour. Just goes to show what can happen when you stop the right "old man" in the hallway and ask a question about some cars. Oh yea. Also got to sit in Carol's pearsonal commuter car he sold this guy. Amazing time. I'd love to tell the story on Vinwiki😁. Much more to it.
Shelby: "But did you die?"
A viper story that's not Casey. Who knew?
Haha!! I did the exact same thing pretty much with General Krulak at the christening of the USS IWO JIMA, I had no idea who he was in a suit and not a 4 star general Marine Corps uniform. It happens.
I’ve never been more jealous of a vinwiki story, to not only meet the man but go on a ride in a car he helped create that’s an amazing memory
I was Carroll's limo driver at Indy during May of 1991. One evening I'm to take Carroll and Sam Posey, the former driver and broadcaster, downtown from the old Speedway Motel to dinner at the famous St. Elmos steak house. Right before Carroll & Sam walked out of the motel my limo, a stretch Lincoln, dies and won't re-fire. So here I am hood up on this limo trying to figure out if I can find some issue when Carroll comes walking up. I said don't worry Mr. Shelby I have another car on the way to take you to dinner, but hey you're an old Ford guy...what do you thing is wrong with it, and he got a big kick out of that. He was a very nice man!
Travis has a really soothing voice and great storys, keep them coming!
Gah the opportunity to just be talking with him is awesome.
X103! That's 103.3 on your radio dial. I had no idea Travis was a dejay for them. Back in the day, probably the same time Travis was dejaying, they used to host an X-Fest out at Deer Creek, and it was an all day concert with outstanding bands, and for a ridiculously low price. If memory serves, it was like $10.33 for the ticket. 1995 - Bush, Weezer, Toadies, Birdmen of Alcatra, Johnny Socko (outstanding local ska band) or 2000 with Stone Temple Pilots, Green Day, Fuel, Papa Roach, P.O.D., & Disturbed. Great times!
Great story, thanks for sharing. You are very fortunate to have met the man behind some of the most iconic driving machines in automotive history. I own a Gen 1 Viper and it is one of the coolest cars I've ever owned. I highly recommend it to anyone who is a driving enthusiast.
I was given an AMT or Monogram model of the Indy Pace Car Stealth that year for my birthday. I remember thinking it was a pretty cool car and looking forward to seeing it at the race. Then the day comes, and this whole other animal is ahead of the pack. I was eight and had never heard of a Viper. I immediately forgot about the Stealth.
Thanks for featuring this incredible Shelby story 👍🏻
1:14 :) I need this as my text alert tone
U need 2 keep pressing the time stamp over and over again to ensure maximum laughter
I grew up there too. This is probably my top 5 favorite video. Brings back great memories.
Makes me want a viper even more
I’m so glad that you included a story about my favorite car the Dodge Viper. And I also own a 3000gt. And at the time I bought it in high school I had no idea that it had any ties to a viper. Absolutely love both of these cars. Awesome.
Fun fact about the viper. It was due to release in the spring of 91 but they had to push the release back to do a redesign. They decided to elongate the wheelbase by 6 inches so that carol Shelby could fit his massive balls in the car
Hey, Ive been watching your channel for a long time now and I love your vids, keep it up!
Fantastic story!
This is by far, my favorite video on VinWiki. Great story. So very jealous that you got to meet the man, the legend himself
I really like guy that talked about the drug smugglers truck and the story he told about the vintage mercedes.
Always the best stories on VINwiki. More guys should start their own channel like Rabbit.
Wow this is one of the all-time great stories in my opinion, I've seen all of them to-date
Amazing story very lucky to have that experience Carroll is an extraordinary man
Travis is one of my favorite guests on here
This might be one of my favorite stories yet.
thanks for the good times Ed
I’m in for that! That’s sounds like a blast!
Sorry not sorry, your stories are the best here! Got to the point of caring zero about the guys trying to sell or drive supercars. You are da man!
Being from Indianapolis as well, these stories are awesome.
Oh this was so good
Good story, thanks man.
The Snake. Deadly when untamed!
I clicked on this one cause it was a VIPER and learned a little something to boot.
I’m a proud owner of a GEN IV and I just love it.
Love Travis stories
In 1994 had a brand new '94 Dodge Stealth it was a very cool car!! At that time it was the second fastest car (top speed) I ever drove, I hit 138mph and of all places I did it on Walt Disney World property.... LOL!!! Back in those days the only time the OCSO office or Highyway Patrol ever came on Disney property was for a accident or if they were called which was very seldom (Disney has/had an image to uphold). It was around 1am when they had one of their special nights and there was nobody in front of me for a couple of miles so I thought I'd see what the car could do.
Carol Shelby... one of the coolest dudes in the history of the automobile.
This video is unique because he didnt slur "gods green earth" five times during the story
When I heard "Dodge Viper" and "I almost died" I knew it was going to be good!
Prolly looked like Hank Deuce in Ford V Ferrari when Carroll takes him for a real test drive 🤣
That Lincoln mark VIII at :30 seconds though 😍
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed and appreciated that!
So happy to see someone from Indiana doin big things on here
Another great story. Content is back on track.
Great storyteller.
Wow amazing!
The Stealth and the 3000GT are the most underrated 90's sports cars. They handle great, and are way cheaper to build and better looking than an AWD Subaru.
Every Carroll Shelby story is the great story told till the next one gets told.
awesome story
I miss my dodge stealth!!!! Its my old dodgeibishi
Hmmmmm posthumously accusing someone of "attempted murder" are we now LOL. Cool video. Subscribed 😉. Love this channel.
My interest in this increased 1000 fold when I realized the rejected Stealth pace car was part of this story.
i owned a 1994 viper. big smile everytime, good shit....
I legit just finished watching The Shelby doc on Netflix
Well worth seeing
During the actual race, Carroll's pace lap prior to green flag , he dives off turn 4 at last second into pit row. At full speed This is after his heart transplant & recovery.
Check out the tapes if you can, the Viper chassis set up is phenomenal for the pace car.
That was Travis best story yet! why are we just now hearing about this?
My uncle was a drivetrain engineer on the Viper. He brought the prototype to my parents house when I was little and gave me a ride. I have a picture of it.
YES I have seen this viper in person at the indy 500 museum!
Travis always has cool stories.
This was an EPIC 1
"Carroll Shelby tried to kill me at 160 miles per hour...." Lol, awesome ..... Now that's something I wish I could say!!!! :)
I recall hearing another story of that year at Indianapolis where Carroll was driving around another press member and he faked a heart attack in front of the journalist in the Viper at speed
I loved the stealth! kid had one in high school in my automotive class 👌🏻
My first car was a 92 Stealth TT. I have 6 Stealths and a 3000GT now haha.
Vipers are so underrated
I dream of the day that I go into a video when it was recently uploaded and I dont see comments like "omg first" or "wow never this early lol"
Or...
"I've never clicked so fast"
"I left pornhub for this"
Or any comment that is answered in, "Yes"
Society is morphing into the plot of the movie Idiocracy
@@conrad463 Yep.
Very few people have original thoughts. It is a shame.
That made ME feel warm and fuzzy, as a huge 3000GT and dodge stealth guy
This guy has major Hank Hill vibes.
Great story. I live in Indy as well. Did you DJ for X-103?
I would have absolutely shit a brick if I got in a car and saw it was Carrol Shelby. I'd also have expected nothing less. The man didn't slow down with age. One of the most die hard petrol heads in history.
I would’ve been egging him on... let’s see what she’s got! 😆
@@meatrocket1 He'd have pushed it further 😂 The man raced with nitro pills to keep his heart going for chrissake. Absolute legend.
Interesting I was just cleaning out a house and I got a 1991 Dodge Viper poster. This is the poster with the viper sitting on the speedway. This is the actual car with all the terrible fitment gaps on the bumpers and side skirts and everything!
The Dodge Stealth is in a museum.... for sale.
I've heard of this but wow
hoping for more Travis stories soon
DaAng! That right there is A car story!
I once invited myself to Carroll Shelby's family reunion down in Tx. At the last minute my fried, who was Carroll's nephew uninvited my. That's my story on how I almost got a 62 AC Cobra that was parked in Shelby's old barn. At least that was how I thought my visit would go.
as long as it's aligned correctly...shouldn't be a problem
how slow were the cars going to stay behind the fiero
Slow, they flew by! as just like every fiero in the world, they love catching fire lol
The actual pacecar Fieros had a BUILT 2.7L Jack Roush SuperDuty 4, 'only' putting out 232hp. But it still hit 136 setting pace on raceday.
yes but It had a pretty beastly engine. A N/A 4 banger making like 300hp. Pretty crazy even by today’s standards let alone the 80’s! Where a Vette made 170hp
Love vipers my favorite car
Legendary
"Moh'dr Veehehkl!"
Carroll Shelby seems like a cool person. I have a signed painting of his in my room.
Travis needs to tell more stories about IMS/ Indy 500
My old man once met Richard Petty at North Wilksboro I believe. He was busy trying to get a autograph from a driver we were loosely related to when a man walks up behind him and starts a conversation, my dad being somewhat destracted doesn't really look back but is having this conversation for like 5, 6 minutes. Finally he asks my dad something and he turns around and low and behold Richard Petty is standing right there.
They release the new pace car at the auto show. Where have I been at. Never knew that.
What a legends
I race superbike an cars thanks for the great story...us racers have to remember how scary it is for a passenger when u dont have the steering wheel in ur hands sorry about that from the racers family....people used to figit a lot when i drive my challengers an cudas....i would relax them by telling them my dad is a tv repair guy hes got an AWSUM set of tools he can fix anything....that useally did the trick
I'm starting to think you got the tk kirkland of cars on this channel now lol
The original 90’s concept vipers are amazing looking, altough the ‘89 concept is the best looking, it featured a V8 not the V10.
My jaw is still on the ground
