All about the LT2 in the 2020 C8 Corvette

- The 2020 C8 Corvette will debut with the LT2 engine. It sounds familiar right? Well, it is because it's still based off of the 5th generation small block V8 family as the LT1, LT4, LT5 and truck versions. In this case, the LT2 is derived from the LT1....but what are the differences?

Wow those are easily the best OEM exhaust manifolds I have ever seen on a "normal" production car. Fucking sick! GM is killing the game with this one.
With a price tag under 100k i think GM will kill competition
This video kind of made me nostalgic for the days I was an engineer for GM Powertrain. 10 years ago I was doing Lube and Vent testing on the Gen 5 prototypes, and I never would have imagined it was going to lead up to this.
Right on man cool. Thanks for your hard work bringing us the next gen of dominate small blocks. 🤘
@@ChuckBeefOG I really can't take much (if any) credit. All I did was run some tests and report the results to the engineers designing the components.
Do you know what a liar is, SR ?
@@dareisnogod5711 Yes, I know what a liar is. I also know what a hater is.
You have to know that the ZO6 is coming, and it’s going to be a monster .
Totally agree! The sky is the limit and she will always be a great bang for the buck. Ah...no pun intended. Z06 ZR1 maybe a Zora or a mild hybrid/motor combo.
Dohc TT
This could crush the industry in all types of ways. That's the most exciting part about this c8. From the little sport compacts to the high and mighty supercars. We're looking at insanely inflated prices on brand new cars. GM listened and delivered big time. I hope this does damage on the streets and hopefully other manufacturers will reciprocate. Shame on Toyota, and shame on Ford. Shame on Chrysler/Dodge out of all.
Just wait until the ZR1! It'll roast that Z06!
Can’t wait for the zr1
All I can say is that my C8 LT2 is an absolute dream ... I have the performance exhaust as well. Much to the chagrin of my neighbors ... Cold start will wake the dead. But oh man, when you tickle to go pedal it's a symphony.
Thankfully, the E99 ECM has already been cracked, so it should just be a matter of developing the tunes; can't wait!
$2000 just for the PCM crack and credits alone...crazy high but yep at least its possible
Beautiful masterpiece
Lose the orange font and woman singing in background. Otherwise great footage
Ivana Notyers thx
lmao
Background music is the most annoying feature in YT videos. Seems they just don‘t want us to listen to what they have to say.
Yes, fix the orange font with grey shadow background! Did you even review your video? That crap looks blurry on a white background.
Also lose the obnxious hi-lo music background noise. Go with a simple bass track.
Other than those two things, I enjoyed your video. Good work but you gotta fix those issues going forward.
You can hardly hear it
Started from 345hp (LS1) To 495hp for LT2 that's a HUGE improvement !!
yeah, my ls2 gained over 100 horsepower from cam, intake and headers. Cant wait to see what a fucking beast like this could pump out while staying NA, or even with a supercharger right there under the rear window
@@ImKittyCow people say it might be impossible to tune due to complex pcu and if u can it'll be costlllly
@@TheSprykilla i heard they already cracked the e99, why manufactures put any encryption at all is beyond me but once theyve been out a few months i cant imagine a shop charging an arm and a leg for it
@@ImKittyCow thats that fair but yeah these things will be pretty nasty then maybe not 720s speed for but 60k with 10k of mods yeav
I’m a die in the wool MOPAR lover but I have to tip my hat to Chevy on this corvette.
I too love Mopar! The Viper without a doubt would still be in production had it not been for FIAT!
The Fat Cat better shape up.
Glenn Oropeza they’re bringing the Viper back. It’s going to powered by the aluminum V8 Hemi replacement from FCA. Word is it’s coming in a few trims from base model to race model. I’m hoping it comes to life.
@Ivana Notyers There should be a comma after "Dyed".
Ivana Notyers okay spell check police I didn’t notice it!
As a Ford guy, all I can say is DAYUM!!
As a JDM guy, all i can say is DAYUM SON
As a Dodge guy all I can say is MOPAR OR DAYUM
As a Rarri guy... Good job.
@@DevilDaRebel what the fuck is a rarri???
As a Chevy guy, all l can say is *WTF!*
Well done video. The music would not have been missed. Sounds like what they play in the Chinese restaurant I like.
Robert Mizek this comment is gold
Just wait ten min
Tbh, I'd like both previous and 2020 Vettes.
LT2 exhaust manifold looks sweet; form follows function
Thank you for sharing the info on the LT 2 and I think Chevrolet really knock it out of the park this time. I went and looked at the C8 over the weekend and I am very impressed and I can’t wait to drive it.
Great info, well done
Gice it a couple years & people will be creating monsters with this new design. Also the ZR1 version of the C8 probably gonna be stepping onto Hypercar territory for a fraction of the cost. Can't wait to buy mines
Mines are extremely dangerous and shouldn’t be planted near people
Adam Nelson that’s crazy, this is some snarky shit I would say. What a world.
Love the intake manifold design.
New subber. Very informative and interesting information.
Very well done!
The cut always are awesome
Interesting and nice video. Many thanks.
@B is for Build This is the perfect engine for your shenanigans!!!!
lmao
Like!Ah that plastic engine cover is really rad!!
Nice video!!!
Good video explaining the engine.
Good info love the motor, Thanks!
Well done sir. I'm a Vette owner occasionally.
Informative bro informative
Time will tell. But twin turbo set up will make this car super fun.
I've heard that the C8 Z06 Corvette will come out next year with a V8 4.2 litre twin turbo engine which will produce more power than the Stingray.
I can't wait for the recalls and bugs. I'd hold off on purchases. Who wants there new C8 in December anyways?
You bet, and more frequent visits to the gas station and tire store. Many new friends. Thanks for this fine report. Love the exhaust headers. Finally something that looks good and perhaps functions without after market. Who will be first to chrome these babies?
It will be super fun in stock form too.
@@s.reynolds3415 yea that new tranny and oil sump system is what im looking at lol
Man, this engine with a roots style blower will be incredible.
It’s all about the cam and dynamic compression
It's innovative & enhanced.. l like it !!
So different cam, Intake manifold, and stock headers.. Nice..
@lenny 034 Yea, but I believe the LT1 in the GrandSport had that already.. It’s nothing really new..
Were you expecting something else? A pretty decent little bump from the LT1. Bigger power bumps than the LS2 gave over the LS1 back in the day.
@Chuck Beef No.. I love the car and everything about it..
Camaro_LT1 Oh. The double period thing.. had me thinking you were being sarcastic. Lol you’re right its looking to be a pretty great car.
This is best corvette ever in my opinion ! Worth ever penny!
Nice vid
The LT2 is a game changer. The present and the future for the LT2 is such a engineering marvel.
Just plain sick
Nice and wait for other models with more Power... ;-D
All I can think of saying is"wow" and totally awesome dude LoL I'm Peter from Hamilton Ontario Canada and 47 years old and always wanted a Vette but can never afford one but it doesn't matter now because I'm a stroke and cardiac arrest survivor and can't drive anymore especially a new Vette
@Matthew Gerhardt thank you sir you as well
I'm waiting for the first guy to do an 8-1 exhaust system. The firing order of the GM V8s end up making it sound pretty exotic when the exhaust is done in that configuration..
“Mounted Mid-Engine”. Great quote. Lol
I like it, going to be an awesome car.
As usual, Chevy`s engine R&D team is hitting a home run with this new engine. Even though it`s quite healthy, HP-wise, even in base form, those forged internals and dry sump setup show they`re building a strong foundation for even more prodigious output.
Nice video 🙂
Set of heads, decent cam and a blower is going to be nasty on this. 👏🏻
Would make any performance vehicle nasty
Those items an a free flowing exhaust.
I like those numbers
2:41 A High Rise intake manifold makes more torque and less HP. Short runner intake always makes more HP at higher RPM but less torque, this is why trucks have long runner intakes because they need all the bottom end torque as much as they can get.
The engine is excellent 💎💥🚀🏁
I love that GM even tried to encrypt an ECU. Come on, guys. Car guys seem to have nothing but time, and theres a huge overlap between the hacker community and car enthusiasts. That encryption is at worst an annoyance.
Yup Nothing is uncrackable
love that you mention there's an overlap. im a cs major and am a car guy to the bone. guess im not alone lol
It's cool that it is a direct port injected motor since all LS engines after 2015 were
I'm keeping my C7 manual transmission for 3 pedal engagement fun when I get a C8.
Sure she slip right in....
Drive a dual clutch and you ll soon forget the manual.
Very interesting !
it certainly makes good sense
I hear from people in BGKY. That there’s a 5.5 liter version of the Blackwing LTA that’s getting dropped in for the Zora (2020’s ZR1)
The engine features the following highlight characteristics:
Twin-scroll turbochargers
Electronic wastegate control
Twin water-to-air charge coolers
Twin throttle bodies
Direct injection
Dual-independent camshaft phasing
Active Fuel Management / Cylinder Deactivation
Variable-pressure oiling system
Stop/start technology
1,000HP AWD with a 10 speed DCT.
i plan on buying this engine and putting it in my 86 Monte Carlo
Stick the headers out the hood
Looks like it would make a great powerboat motor.
No doubt!
Companies who usually race Corvettes had a definite say in the engineering of this beauty. Especially IMSA and Le Mans series. Sorry don't know which company competes with the R series Vettes.
this round the corvette wins
nice job chevy
I found this video informational
The LT2 is just a slightly modified dry sump LT1 with a cam, headers, and intake manifold. It uses the same internals, same throttle body, same fuel system, and still isn't dual injected for carbon buildup.
Ya the only problem with the dual injection set up is that it is patented technology. Right now Ford is being sued for stealing that tech. In time they will release that tech. but for now just dump some fuel system cleaner in every other oil change.
@@samduran5180 Lexus, Nissan, Porsche, VW, Toyota, Acura, and Subaru all use dual injection so Ford's lawsuit isn't because of that. It's
DirtDude117 it’s what?? Lol
@@jakebro5557 Lexus ISF and IS350 have been dual injected since 08. Nissan used due injection over seas. Porsche uses it in the 9A1 & Cayanne/Panamara. The Lambo/R8 V10 is dual injection. The EA888 overseas is dual injected in everything. Toyota even uses it in the Corolla, FRS, and Camry now. The BRZ, WRX, and Ascent are all Subaru dual injection. I believe the turbo engines non-STI all use it.
@@samduran5180 what are you talking about the zr1 had dual injectors (port & direct)
I have on order my c8 2LT the lt motor is going to be Real !!! I have a LS 396 in my 66 Chevelle, what a motor
The intake reminds me of the late gen truck manifolds with the long open runners and very tall overall clearance. I'm surprised the stock unit stayed 87mm, since 90mm and bigger has been seen in previous LS/LT engines. Did the LT1 come factory with 1.8 rockers or is that new?
Those coil packs are gonna be a gigantic PITA to change out!
Coils are one of the most reliable parts though.
Why would you need to change out coil packs? Hell I never had an issue with any of mine on the LS motors and thats after going over 200k miles in some of them.
The engine is fine, a nice piece of engineering. With that said its going to be a PITA to work on because of its location.
timing belt 👎
Engine looks great, but that instrument cluster is beyond BLAAGGGHHHH!
Yeah bland econocar digital guages
@u aint bout it analog guages would've been better
I like the placement of the coil packs and the exhaust, although the exhaust does look quite wide to be fitted into your average engine bay. I'm wondering when they will design an engine w/ the exhaust coming out of the top of the engine and the intake coming from the side, opposite of current configurations? This set-up would (IMHO) make a more efficient engine using some basic physics principles, like heat rises and cool drops/falls. I need to get one of those software design programs and start playing around.
Very good piece, thanks; If I may, how close is my C7 2017 Grand Sport automatic to the new Dual Clutch, what's the acronym? DCT?...sort of?...not really? completely different?....thanks
Thanks for the info!
But is the transmission really any different from existing dual clutches? Even the 8L90 shifts "inhumanly" fast.
It will be interesting to see how it competes with the European counterparts. I'm certainly interested in getting one, but I'd rather wait a bit for reviews to come out. Never thought I'd fall head over heels for a Chevy lol.. Good job GM.
The picture looks like the exhaust manifold would work great for a turbo set up in other cars
If it was not for the near perfectly square steering wheel the C8 would be a masterpiece.
Hello, does the lt2 features both port and direct injection or does it have only direct injection ? If it’s the cas do you think it will have carbon build up issues like all the other direct injection engines ?
Only direct injection like the LT1.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see hybrid motors and a supercharger for the zr1 c8
So this was the original potential of the LT1 from 2014. I believe it still has cylinder deactivation with this new cam. Move of coil packs to the bottom is interesting.
It does still have the AFM.
When they put this engine in a Skyline GTR...it's gonna be sick
4:16 I watched this entire video about how amazing this engine is just to see it smoke like a genie is about to pop out the pipe. Just kidding I want one of them !!
I hope the car performs as promised.
Nice informative video. Good job! Any info on the flat plane crank which was rumored vs the cross plane crank which would increase RPM to 8000+? Any plans for the future development? Perhaps Z06 or ZR1?
You'll never see a flat plane crank in a 6.2 Corvette and with good reason. A 6.2 was never designed to be an ultra-high-rpm engine like a 5.2 Coyote and there's no other advantages to a flat crank. In fact, while they have an interesting snarl they also create quite a bit of annoying high-rpm vibration...ask any GT350 owner. The serious power will come with the turbocharged 5.5 DOHC engine planned for the future and don't look for it to be a flat-plane crank motor, either. Folks, this is a 3.0 second 0-60, 11-flat quarter mile, 180+mph car and handling to match with the base engine - and y'all act like it's a big disappointment for being underpowered. I'm a member of the Too-Much-Is-Just-Enough club, but sheesh.... :(
Do you pic or video, where and how, cold air gets into the engine?
I'd throw on a good throaty aftermarket exhaust! I can't tell you how much it bugs me that the C8 Stingray fell JUST SHORT of 500hp which I thought it'd AT LEAST be!!
When that dual clutch break hoo hooo hooooo
They are very strong.
Not sure this and the Subra will be in the same price range in Japan. USA is not the only market for Toyota.
Lt2 is not replacing the lt1. The lt2 is like the ls4 on front wheel drive vehicles. The bell housing bolt pattern for the transmission are different from the front location lt1, lt4, lt5 and truck engines.
495 horsepower would make for an awesome speedboat engine- which is nothing new for Corvette's engine! But now it's going to be smaller, less weight and more fuel efficient than the traditional big block Chevrolet engine!
The headers look like they're natural for speed boats too XD
Lt5 from the 90s was handbuilt by Mercury marine, who then proceeded to make an lt5 powered boat, towed by an lt5 powered Corvette. It was a funny and amazing thing to see.
Just what I wanted to hear I'm installing the 2 cam in my 2015 LT1 Z51 motor in my 57 Chevy sedan delivery to deleet the afm dod
the throttle body is now facing the other way towards the ring gear,, but on others its facing the accessory drives,, am i correct,, or not
I could be imagining things but during the picture of the engine valley, the ports for the active fuel management looked like that they had been plugged, hmmm.......
HP Tuners are able to tune the GM E99 already on the ZR1
In the next yet years GM will make many changes that will be great for this C8 Vette
No shit?
I love the new C8 Vette
Good bye Toyota Zupra.. Nice knowing ya.. 😅😅😅
You think it is better then Toyota???? You can buy a 1999 Corvett for
$3000.00 Supra 1999 for $80.000????
Except...the new Supra is a rebadged BMW. Why don’t you give us some price information on 1999 BMW’s.

prettiest production small block
that computer would be easier to crank than my iPhone but thumbs up to BM
I wonder what’s going to be the highest trim..the base model is cool...but I have a strong feeling, there’s gonna be a ton of them in the streets. Just like Camaros and mustangs...I wanna have the same felling like GT content and his Nissan GTR. Rare. 😔
Perhaps the coils are lower for maintenance purposes as well. They might be accessible from a lift.
They wanted the motor to look more pleasing through the glass canopy. They will be easily accessible under the car on a lift I'm sure.
I LOVE this car but am holding off until the Z06 comes out with the twin turbo V8.
Does anybody know if this motor comes with that worthless displacement on demand?
I understand that the Blackwing twin turbo is coming in another year.
It will probably be like the Bosch ECU in the Honda Type R. It’ll need to be sent in to get jailbroken and then it can be reflashed. They’ll have it cracked in no time.
