    I agree with you regarding the Manual vs DSG. I have a 2017 GTI Manual and I love it. I know DSG is faster but I don't care. Rowing your own gears never gets old. I have kept my GTI stock because I want to retain the value of the car, and to avoid any unnecessary mechanical problems that are know to happen to tuned cars.

      Hell yeah brother! I could promise you that the car is totally different tuned, I love it. However I could also promise you there will be plenty of problems once tuned 😂 . So you right!!

      There are a ton of people on stage 1/2 tunes with pump gas with zero issues going up to 120k+ miles. The engines and transmissions in these cars are really strong and don't typically have problems even on a tuned car. I think OP had an issue with his injectors since he was running e85 which requires a much higher duty cycle on the injectors than pump gas. Also if he has an issue with his head gasket it could be because the e85 tune might be making more power than his intercooler can handle since the e85 tunes are quite a bit more powerful than the pump gas tunes. It also looks like he lives in a pretty hot climate.

    White smoke sounds like evap vapors being recirculated into the combustion chamber when they bypass the PCV system under high load (or something to that effect). An oil catch can solves this problem (along with carbon buildup etc). I don’t have a setup on my GTI but it’s on my to do list.

    • @rootsmanuva82

      Another words it’s likely not as scary as you think. Head gasket wouldn’t cause intermittent smoke and neither would a turbo. Gut says PCV related 👍

  • @imranscarvideos
    @imranscarvideos Рік тому +10

    My guess is there’s probably a hairpin leak/crack in the headgasket. Maybe if you’ve over-pushed the car on a hot day, or running too much power without things like a larger intercooler. A good way to know is if you start having spark plug issues down the road

    As a 2017 MK7 GTI 6spd owner, that is the original owner, and currently has 151k miles on the ODO, let me give you my $0.02 on your car, and possibly why you are having those issues.
    It’s most likely due to your pops/crackles tune. I noticed you have it, and for you to have those issues at 30k miles, that is not normal unless you run it constantly with the pops/crackles. You might think I’m wrong, and you have every right to think that, as I’m not a mechanic, but my three other friends who thought the same when I told them to be careful with their pops/crackles tunes, but now have blown motors, and need complete engine rebuilds, thought the same too. Two of them were on EQT tunes, and the other was on a Sneeky tune.
    I have 151k original miles on it. I have been tuned since 1500 miles. I went from Eurodyne Stage 1 at 1500 miles, to Eurodyne Stage 2 at 3000 miles, then blew my IS20 at 45k miles, went IS38 on Eurodyne IS38 tune, that IS38 blew on the first pull (most likely due to oil buildup from previous IS20 failure), replaced it with new IS38, and shop bent a fin on install, replaced that with EQT Vortex hybrid (46k miles on car), which ended up having a weak wastegate arm that bent, then replaced that with a new IS38 (48k miles on car at this time), and went custom tuned through Frank Mabo. I have been running this IS38 turbo since then (so now over 100k miles on this turbo) with zero issues! I have never ran it with a pops/crackle tune, and have only ran it with custom 91oct and 87oct tunes (custom tuned to match the fuel octane)(I drive a lot for work so I wanted a cheaper 87oct file to use for work). Like I said, zero issues! My tunes are also conservative, meaning, I’m not pushing max power like so many of you guys do. While my three other friends who have blown motors, didn’t even have 80k miles on their cars!
    So, long story short, if your engine isn’t already f’ed, I would get rid of your pops/crackles tune, and get custom tuned.
    As far as the manual is concerned, I have lots of videos on my UA-cam channel about this, but I’m now on my 5th clutch. The manual has a weak point, and it’s the TOB/slave. If yours hasn’t failed yet, be thankful, but I’m sure as time goes on, it’s going to become an expensive task to keep the manual working reliably. If I did it over again, I would’ve bought DSG, and this is coming from someone who has never owned an automatic car in his life (almost 42 years old).
