    Hi Everyone and Welcome Back To My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing tutorial.
    So in today's sew-along I am making a McCalls 8255 top that was intended to be made in a woven fabric with a (gasp) separating zipper in the back! Um, no, So I am using the pattern and modifying some of the construction techniques to make it out of a stretch knit instead. I also will show you how to use a double needle and how to use hidden elastic to make sure that the neck does not gape open.
    I hope you like it!
    ~Marie

    How do you know so much? You have a crazy good way of teaching that makes want to run out and get these exact patterns, but can also use the techniques for all the patterns I already use. Such professional videos as well, good audio levels, good lighting, multiple camera angles, tight editting......It is as if you have been teaching sewing for years!

    My plan is to put a side seam zipper from the bottom to the underarm on one side. I live with MS and find this is easy for me to get dressed. Very helpful to see you sew it first.

    I like the: “I’m not a contortionist” part. You are absolutely right about that. It is a bit odd to have a separating zipper on the back of a top like that. If it was a quite wide top maybe. 🤔
    Great video, I enjoy watching you. Even if I only made a few of the patterns you made, so far anyhow.

    Another informative and knowledgeable video! Much appreciation! You get right to it, no wasted talking time. Amazing, the storehouse of all the extra sewing tips, which are really major, you know without being condescending. You speak adult to adult, never “What I want you to do.” You have a talent along with your excellent skills. Such inspiration, such a good teacher. Bless you!

    Beautiul top. The elastic in the neckline is such a great tip. I made a blouse in a woven material a while ago and the neckline was miles to wide, although the blouse fitted nicely. A friend of mine suggested putting elastic in the back and front front. It looks fine now and nobody is any the wiser. Thanks for sharing

    Thank you again for all your tips. I though I was the only one that sometimes would use a knit instead of a woven on a pattern. When I do I just double fold the neck and armholes (if there are no sleeves) and use a zig zag stitch. I also do the double fold for the hems. You are right about sizing down when you go for a knit on a woven Thanks again for such an instructing video.

    Thank you Marie. I always enjoy and learn from your videos. I have been sewing for many years and love the tips you give--so practical.
    Also, I'm curious, if you don't mind answering--what kind of stove is behind you on this video. Also, another curiosity is--are you self- taught or how have you learned so much about this wonderful craft? If I'm too nosy, just ignore the questions.

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Debbie, I think part of your message cut scrambled it looks like you're asking about my stove? My big red stove is an AGA. It's fabulous, not very common in the US, a british-made natural gas stove. It really helps to keep the house warm and cozy in cold weather and it Cooks fabulously. I'm guessing that's what it was😁

    Hello lovely Marie! Thank you for sharing another fab tutorial full of good things! I'm assuming you used a straight stitch on your knit top because you anticipated minimal negative ease due to the pattern being drafted for a woven? Or would you use a straight stitch regardless? I spent most of today sewing and it was glorious. Hope you have a wonderful week!

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Faith! I actually use a straight Stitch usually when I'm sewing knits. I stretch it just barely enough that there's some ease built into the Stitch. Great to see you again😊

    I've already started cutting the pattern out. Would it make more sense for me to make a side zipper? I'm using a cotton blend. I'm sewing a 32W. Thanks.

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  2 роки тому +1

      Good morning Pilar! If you are able to reach behind your back and do the zipper thing that would be fine for you, but I couldn't. I would suggest putting an opening anywhere that you feel that you can reach, a side separating zipper might be the best option, the other option could be slicing the front open and putting facings down the front and let it open there with the zipper, which might be cute. Whatever works for you. For me it was to put no opening and just pull it over my head😁

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  2 роки тому +1

      It is still good to have a variety of pattern options available no matter what your size is. The finished silhouette may not look the same as the model, but it is still nice to have options. Thanks for watching.
