    Hi Everyone and Welcome Back To My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing tutorial.
    This sew-along is a relatively fast make. It is a dress with multiple tucks in the front and back and a zipper up the back. I substitured a traditional zipper with a lapped installation for the invisible zipper on the pattern, but give detailed instructions how to do that. I hope you like it!

    Due to all the pleating, this would make a cute maternity dress.

      It would! I think in the latter months removing the back pleats would be good 😁

    Very cute. From the end photo of you wearing the dress ... It looks like you really need a full bust adjustment. That will put the tucks at a better place on your body.
    If you are over a b cup, and the pattern does not provide larger cup sizes, do the. Full bust adjustment for a nicer fit

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  2 роки тому

      Yes, full bust here! But the tucks really are placed much higher in the front too. Thanks for watching :)

    • @xglsc6465
      @xglsc6465 2 роки тому +1

      @@mybucoliclife I saw the tuck placement but I betcha the full bust adjustment would still make the dress more flattering. It looks fine on you, but adding the full bust would put those pleats an inch or so lower allowing the fullness of the pleat to release lat a more flattering position on your bust... I don't know how to 'splain it🥴. I would LOVE to see you make the dress again and compare the fit with the adjustment. Learning how to do a full bust adjustment was a game changer for me. Suddenly everything fit and looked better. Just like learning to measure the bust apex distance on a pattern and raising or lowering it to match my apex measurement! Wow! Even patterns that have different cup sizes often need the apex adjusted.
      I really appreciated your careful explanations in the video. Well done

    As always, this came out great. I like the fabric. It reminds me of something I used to use in school that was called homespun, but with a tighter weave. A very responsive fabric, but I never see it anymore. I like how you gathered the sleeves before stitching them together. I, too, find that more sensible. Another way you could change the sleeves is to extend them to elbow or three quarter length and then apply the band at a comfortable width. I love your tutorials and always learn something new.

      Thanks! I have actually removed the bands and just hemmed the sleeves. Much better for me now. 😁 thanks for watching!

  • @1jmass
    @1jmass 2 роки тому +2

    I know it would drive me nuts for the sleeve to not have the length and size to allow the freedom of movement I need for comfort. It looks really good on you, but I would remove the band and come up with a way to make the sleeve longer. By removing the bottom gathers, hopefully that would give the additional freedom I need. Using a larger piece of fabric than the original band, attach it to the sleeve bottom forming a new band that adds both length and width to the sleeve. A few gathers might be needed to help with both the look and comfort.
    This may or may not work on the first try, but one of the perks of sewing your own clothes is having the freedom to find a way that does work for you.

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  2 роки тому

      Hi Jean. I actually have full arm movement. I just was wanting the band to be extra loose. But yes, in sewing you can alter your garments any way you want. 😁

      Actually I've never had trouble with this fabric shrinking. I do make sure that before I cut anything out I have washed it thoroughly with hot water, and ran it through the dryer on a high heat setting until 100% dry. That takes out most of the shrink anything else I don't even notice.

      @@mybucoliclife That's good. Actually you are supposed to prepare the fabric before you make something out of it. Since I'm so old and out of shape I've been buying my clothes from the catalogs that come in the mail. I bought one beautiful blue cotton gauze blouse and when I washed it, it came out too tight for me. Another one, a flannel shirt, shrunk a full size. So I just don't buy all cotton any more. I'm probably not getting the best quality material by buying from the catalogs. : - )

    It makes me nuts that the pattern isn't matched. It's like a fingernail on a chalk board. It makes it hard to concentrate on what you're doing.
