    It's so apparent how much you enjoy soulful playing by the amount of emotion and importance that you put into every single note. I assure you that if you were to put out an instrumental album featuring your playing, it would sell like gold...

    Thanks for sharing your guitar settings. I’ve not used guitar rig, but on my line 6 pod 2.0 it has a Fender Bassman modulation and it is by far my favourite. It’s just a big clean beautiful sound, with drive set just before it breaks up. I love the spring reverb you used, wow, that was a game changer in its self. All the best!

    Thanks for the video mate. At 6.00 on the tube screamer (not as a distortion). I did an interesting thing with my boy Josh last night at a pub gig - put an Ibanez Tube Screamer (1999 TS9DX) in line from his J45 acoustic / LR Baggs to a Marshall AS50D 50W - 2 speaker / 2 channel. We set the TS on mode (2) tone 0 drive 0 level 10 o'clock to boost and thicken up the acoustic signal before it got to the amp. EQ and reverb are on the amp. Took a bit of tweaking to find a sweet spot, worked well and gave the guitar more bite and lift especially on more intricate stuff like Dont Think Twice (Dylan) which he finger picks building on the last verse to throw in some stronger plucks (ala Clapton). Shows it pays to play with your stuff and be creative. Pedal: goo.gl/ajeyDj Amp: goo.gl/dkVgCe Guitar: goo.gl/fQaoGt
    Note: he isn't billy big bollocks at all and is inspired by your channel - 18, been playing for 2+ years, bought his own gear working up to this level, full shifts at Waitrose whilst still at school (A levels) - lied to them about his age and status, got a late shift on adult pay 18 hours a week, paid cash for the Gibson :) other bits second hand. goo.gl/zZuicv

    Thanks for the video. Great work. I tend to use only one or two amps from Guitar Rig. The Tweedman and the Roland JC120 for funk. As you do, I always build up from basic amps and add "pedals" as I would in a real setting. I like the splitter to drive two amps but that's about as complex as it gets. I find it helpful to experiment with basics rather than diving into the presets because I have to strip out so much to get a good sound. For me, it's easier to build up.

    Chris, I'm guessing you've picked up the latest version of Guitar Rig? To my ears it's a vast improvement ui wise and sonically. Raum is built into it and is an awesome ambient reverb if you haven't tried it. The trial version runs for 30 minutes straight forever you just have to restart it. So I guess you could get away with that though saving is disabled the new presets are awesome.
    Shame NI didn't reply to you as I'd pay you a stash of cash to demo if I was them 💵😉

    So right now i have my Fender Strat but i am currently without an amplifier and have been playng without one for over a year now. I have a laptop that i use. It has 4 gigabytes of RAM. Will my computer work as an amplifier if i go buy one of those things to plug my guitar into my computer. I forget what they are called???? That Focusrite thing. Will my laptop have latency once i get the focusrite being that it only has 4 GB of RAM?

  • @KingGrio
    @KingGrio 3 роки тому

    About your reverb Chris: I think the reason you can't get it out of your amp has more to do with the fact that a guitar amp is not the same as a speaker for listening to music. A guitar amp speaker is a "wrong" speaker in a way, to get the nice sounds for the guitar, and usually it means other things need to be compromised, like the ability for your amp to play back your backing track sounding like you know it from the home studio speakers. Nice room reverb probably falls under that category too.
    I think that's more the reason, rather than the digital or analog nature of the reverb. Anyway, that's my guess, I could be wrong !

    Anyone know if you can place a tube screamer between amp and speaker in real life? Or would it blow up the pedal?

    • @ChrisBuckGuitar
      @ChrisBuckGuitar  4 роки тому +1

      Oh, crikey. Don't do that! It'll blow the pedal and amp. Your best bet to try and emulate this (I've never done it myself but it wouldn't harm your gear) is to try and put a Tubescreamer in the amp's effects loop (if it has one) but even that will yield very different results to this, unfortunately.

    Which studio monitors do you use? And have you bothered to try other, more recent apps? S-Gear or Bias, for example? Your tone always is fantastic, and i keep getting surprised when i find it's GR5 and not like a Brunetti amp or something, but i wonder if you've dismissed the later software for a reason: 'not better?' I'm not sure what else can be had. I just assume the newer tech offers more realism in the form of nuance, but i dunno. It's usually a PIA to directly compare them and it's never really a perfect comparison, so i end up using what feels most comfortable. I'm now switching between Bias and GR5, but TheGearPage seems to love S-Gear..... And gee, NAMM is coming up. What's next?

    • @ChrisBuckGuitar
      @ChrisBuckGuitar  6 років тому +2

      Funnily enough, I used Bias a little while ago but couldn't get on with it. An incredible tool no doubt, but a little too much tweakability/control, if anything. I love the fact that it's incredibly quick to get a great tone from GR5. The less time I can spend faffing around before I'm recording the better :) And as for studio monitors, all Friday Fretworks stuff is done using a set of Sennheiser HD280 Pros headphones. Relatively inexpensive but they do the job!

    Hey Chris, which do you prefer playing (ie what do you feel more when playing)? The computer sim or the actual amp? Recorded Your best sounds are when you are through the sim. It’s like better than real somehow. If it’s just for you by yourself which would you gravitate towards for the best feels? Would you ever use the sim in a live environment?

    • @ChrisBuckGuitar
      @ChrisBuckGuitar  6 років тому +1

      In a live situation, real amp all day long. I think that's the limitation of digital - it doesn't 'feel right', at least not in my experience. In regard to recording, I tend to gravitate toward GuitarRig because I'm confident in its setup and know how to get the best out of it without being dependent on different studios/microphones/engineers/pre-amps/consoles etc. There's so many variables that I usually find myself going with what I know. That said, ultimately, it's trying to emulate a real amp so I've no doubt that if I spent adequate time experimenting with microphones/placement etc, I'd get something I was equally happy with :)
