Never in my 54 years has a solo spoken so clearly to me. This is incredible and I now watch it as a daily morning ritual for inspiration. Thank you Chris!
Buck and Evans you're welcome Chris. You are one one my 2 favourite guitar players with my friend Laura Cox (she's french and plays another style and worth listening too). Looking forward to seeing you in France
I just picked up a 2006 sunburst Highway one Strat for $500 Canadian dollars and I really love it. I have to say that this channel heavily influenced my purchase.
You're an inspiration mate! You've got that something that can't be taught but you've also got the same amount of fingers as me so I'll keep trying! The best UA-cam discovery for me for ages. Keep up the great work.
I think this video emphasis the value of knowing your stuff. Ignore those ads that tell you, you don't need to know music theory. It's not essential, but it sure is an asset to have. That, and practice. There really is no easy way to get good. If you start now, you'll get there sooner. 👍🎸🇦🇺
Omg,did that just happen? I haven't heard such a classic solo as this since maybe Pink Floyd Money,,Absolutely blew me away !! If you're playing is an extension of your technique and your personality ? No surprises here,Chris is such a modest grounded lovely guy but super switched on,,sharp as a tac,,,emerging as the UK,s most eminent guitar player !!
We are all at different levels. I'm just glad to get a piece of the action...you are an inspiration. Not a lot of money or talent here. But your tips help... ps luv my revstar! They should have picked you up..
Great instructional/demo vid - and I must say amazing solo. And you know what's cool is you're a gifted musician but also a chill instructor... so often guitarists are one and not the other. Nice work man!
Purple Tortex. The almost perfect pick. Drill 3 small holes in a triangle for additional traction makes 'em perfect. Picks used to squirm around in my fingers, but I started drilling a triangle of holes in them years ago and man, it really fixes it.
Kinda get where ur comin from, hav to c this again a few more times. Im learnin something. Thx . Oh and good to c u hav access to the same straplocks we do here in the states. Lol
Hey Chris, hope all is good with you. Really well explained and illustrated with examples. I got a clear understanding of the path, the melodic content and the way points of interest. Great stuff. 🤘🏻👍🎸🤘🏻👍🎸🤘🏻👍🎸
Nice trick with the minor 3rd. Gives a nice variation within a pentatonic approach. Melodic, a bit Jazzy… to use with moderation to surprise the listener ;-) cheers !
Hey Chris, are there any plans to make the backing tracks of your songs available to us once your album has been released?.. i could spend an eternity playing along to this one (and many others) Love what your doing, Inspirational to say the least!!.. First lot of your signature pickups are making their way to me this week, i will be spreading the word!
Hey mate, great stuff. It would be really cool if you'd publish the tone settings along with your clips somewhere, maybe in the write up, given it's instructional and all! Thanks heaps.
What camera are you using, Chris? I noticed it’s really fast and smooth in tracking the focus on your right hand up and down the fretboard. Another awesome Friday Fretworks Episode, by the way! Cheers!
Hey Chris, great playing there, guess someone's been listening to some D. Gilmour..? I have noticed your playing a while ago, you certainly are a great player. And the topic of the video is great, very few people are talking about this, you have made some great remarks here on the subject but I'm afraid a lot of people just won't get it right. People do this like math these days. You have mentioned the CONTEXT, which is a very important part of the whole story, you talked about making ''an arc'' like form in the solo, about the TENSION, DRAMA, RELEASE... All very important stuff which, I must say I enjoyed listening about, along with the idea that solo is supposed to be melodic. And, of course, it should not be about showing everything you know in about 2 minute solo. There is another thing people talk about too much and very few are able to execute it right - IMPROVISATION. But you are something else, you play this solo differently every time. Your playing attitude reminds me of people I grew up listening to, Gilmour, Knopfler, Hendrix, Clapton, SRV, Santana...old school players who somehow knew how to blend all of the above mentioned ''rules'' in the given CONTEXT by IMPROVISATION. Always different, always new.... Meaning that they sounded a bit different every time they're on stage. Never composing the solo down to a single note and never trying to reproduce themselves again in an effort to sound like in the studio. Seems to me you forgot to mention this, never the less, your playing speaks for it self. I've been playing for over 30 years now, my technique has developed and changed but one thing remained the same - I NEVER try to play someone's solo exactly note for note, except for the most recognizable parts. I never think about the solo and compose it , not too much. That led to more than a few situations I regretted for not recording something but hey - that's music...
I just recently discovered your channel and began listening to your playing style. I had never heard of you before. You have a style and tone that I've never heard before. Very unique. Sometimes I hear bits and pieces that remind me of Jeff Beck, Derek Trucks, Albert King, Mark Knopfler, Peter Green, David Gilmour, and even John Mayer but I can't seem to pinpoint your actual influences. I hope you don't mind me asking; who are your main influences?
Chords, melody, context and drama. It’s all there in spades. You want to be good? Here’s how. Years of work, years of absorbing, practicing, gigging and playing with real people. Chris knows. Be like Chis. Oh and go see Buck and Evans, every member of the band is as bloody brilliant as Chris.
That solo was beyond great
Bartłomiej Frączyk Thank you so much Bartłomiej ☺️
I realize I am pretty randomly asking but do anyone know of a good site to watch new tv shows online ?
Never in my 54 years has a solo spoken so clearly to me. This is incredible and I now watch it as a daily morning ritual for inspiration. Thank you Chris!
This is pure gold. Browsing through your archive. It's a gold mine :-) Thanks!
Wow. Incredible solo. You never cease to inspire and amaze. Wonderful work.
Mike Schroeder Cheers Mike! 🙂
Brilliant solo. You play with so much soul. I'd love to see you jam with Dave Simpson.
Chris, you are really a inspiration for the guitarrists.
Do a video on your right hand technique! Love your playing!
One of the best solos I've ever heard mate. A classic.
First solo to make me involuntarily grin for a long time.
Oh my !!! what a solo !!! There is something Gilmourish added to your own style and tone. En bref : great. Thank you Chris !!!
Stef Thank you very much! Any comparison to Gilmour is welcome ☺️
Buck and Evans you're welcome Chris. You are one one my 2 favourite guitar players with my friend Laura Cox (she's french and plays another style and worth listening too). Looking forward to seeing you in France

My goodness! That's some PHENOMENAL playing!!!

Will Goodfellow Haha. Cheers Will!
The way you swap from pick to fingers is mesmerising (oh and the 100 other things)
I thought this was supposed to be a great solo? That was otherworldly! Incredible playing man. That was beautiful.
This breakdown is an absolute treasure. Thank you for this gift. I will enjoy this and be processing it for literally years.
Wow! I watch a lot of guitar vids on UA-cam, and this is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Great content!
Chris!! Don't know how I missed this video until now! Wow! I hope that is the solo on the album :) THAT is one to tab out. Awesome Brawd.

Simon Williams Cheers Simon! Hope you’re well mate ☺️
Awesome solo!
AWESOME!!! Another GREAT video and AMAZING playing!!! :)
Another so interesting lesson!
Classic E dorian. At least adopting that major 6 into Em pent. Nice playing man. Sounds like Hendrix had a baby with Slash.
My first UA-cam guitar teacher was the amazing Michael Caswell. I doubt I would have stuck at playing this long without his input early on.
Very nice fella!
Nice trick with the minor 3rd. Gives a nice variation within a pentatonic approach. Melodic, a bit Jazzy… to use with moderation to surprise the listener ;-) cheers !
frantisca Absolutely Franctisca! Everything in moderation 😉

GustavoSampaioLP Haha. That’s the extent of my Portuguese I’m afraid! And thank you 🙂
Очень круто ! Есть над чем поработать !

singleplayer75 ThinK Gilmour has been listening to Chris
Do you do Skype lessons? Lessons at all? Love your playing.
Dude you are amazing.
Will your camera angle while doing lick library be from the front, not the fret obscuring one that you use now????
Killer solo!
Great explanation of your approach also.
Dubshock Media Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
Epic!😎
Goose bumps

While there is loads of deserved 'big-ups' for the guitar playing, let's shoot some plaudits the drummer's way :)
Jaw dropping.
Amazing
Excuse me while I try to your solo dude! That was tasty as hell!
gibbanz22 Haha. Cheers dude!
i like the way you put your pick aside to play with your fingers,,,to be honest i am not very clever with fingerpicking
what settings do you typically use on your Artist 30? I've got a blonde one and I'd like to see how much tone is actually in the hands!
Moe Lester Hey Moe. Channel 1, volume around 11o’clock, tone at noon. Reverb usually around noon as well and then master to suit the gig 🙂
Best Police Album Ever ;)
How do you make it scream by bare hands, without plectrum?
Could you do a friday fretworks on the lick you do at 1:20
Do you use 1.14 tortex picks?
Yeah man! :-)
Gary Moseley Cheers Gary! ☺️
What watch are you wearing?
I think you've gone up a level or two mate, hints of SRV and Gilmour and the silky way you play.
That C# AT 1:47 gets me every time.

pgod1960 Thank you very much Peter! Very much looking forward to Newcastle ☺️
Hey Chris what's going on with the Strat mate? It looks to be missing a knob or is this an intentional mod?
How do you only have 20k subs? You should be up there with pewds.
you control that pick like Maradona controlled a football.
👍🔥🔥🎸🦅
Uh yeah, that’s how you construct/arrange a great solo.
The solo at the start sounds like something off an unreleased Pink Floyd track, David Gilmour vibes.
Breathe Dark Side of the moon
If David Gilmour and slash had a kid, this is what they would sound like
..... .....
Lick Library! Always was a fan.
Sounds like Pink Floyd at the begging
Very Gilmorish
gpdllcfun1 Cheers man. I’ll take that! ☺️
