Well, which is it? Strat, Tele or LP?
My first guitar was a used Fender Starcaster for $170. It's beat up, it's far from perfect, it's mine. Nothing will separate me from it. And actually, it still sounds decent.
I probably prefer the strat for its looks and playability, but in terms of status, I think LP is the king, the tele sounds unique to me cause I don’t own one)
LP all the way
can't decide
Les Paul
Someone should just make a TeleSratoPaul model... hollowbody variant too.
Les paul body and controls, telecaster pickups, stratocaster bridge.
🤮
I actually built one not too long ago, strat body, tele neck with les Paul burst bucker pickups, 2 volume, 2 tone knobs with a les Paul style switch
@@mericmussett8509 I think that's almost perfect.
Strat body, les Paul pickups (with 1 strat pickup), with the Tele tail piece, 3 pickups, S,H,H (or SP90P90), les Paul controls and headstock
PRS bro
Look it up
man theres not a better sound than an overdriven telecaster. for lack of a better word it's utterly gorgeous
strats the best for me (of the 3)
but i prefer 24 fret floyd roses
Yeah, i got a tele and it's amazing. The bridge pickup i only use for country and sometimes funk, but the pure warmht of an overdriven tele on neck pickup. Beautiful!

I enjoy eating cheese.
For me, its the warm woody sound of the Les paul. I'm not a single coil guy
Eugene Martone defeated Jack Butler with a Telecaster
then did the nasty with Frances!
He cheated. He used Willie Brown's mojo.
Charles Dyer and it was all the magic he had left!
Only because he went to Juliard, “Julie who” , to study classical. You need all three guitars, in my opinion. Each has it’s purpose. Nice reference to a greatly overlooked movie though. Rye Cooder , Steve Vai soundtrack. Plus a truly entertaining movie!!
Muddy Waters invented electricity!
I use a strat for a few reasons
1.) It was my first electric
2.) I think it looks the best
3.) It just *_~melts~_* into my body when i play
i may be 6 months late but i agree with all of these
And they have some variation to sound with the 5 p switch.
I started on a lower end single cut. When I saved up enough money I wanted a Gibson les Paul. But, I decided I should play a lot of different guitars since it’s a lot of money. Anyways I left with a Strat.
same i think a strat is actually an amazing guitar for metal because the single coil brings clarity to a distorted lead tone and makes for great guitar sounds
I barely ever need to tune my good ol’ Strat at all! The LP, on the other hand.... Bah.
I never thought the Tele would sound so great.
It honestly sounds the best here no doubt.
I have a 1972 Tele and its so versatile, really a great guitar.
I love the tele
It's definitely becoming my favorite sound. It's nicely balanced where the Les Paul can be too warm and understimulating and the Strat can be too bright and harsh for me. Past that there's a particular aesthetic that I'm not sure I could explain past "sounds like home" and pointing to Polkadot Stingray and some Blues.
Agree!!
To my ears the Les Paul and Tele have their very clear distictive note (clean) to them, more like character to them. But that Tele.....that unmistakeable twang is what really attracts me to it.
2:27 That Tele REALLY surprised me. Holy crap! That was the best sound on this video period.
Is he playing a specific song or did he just make it up hinself
I one-hundred percent agree! Absolutely sick sounding bridge pickup!
That actually made my jaw drop
I was torn between getting a standard tele and a telecaster deluxe but I think that alone was enough to prove to me that the single coil bridge pickup on a standard telecaster can SCREAM
It's easily the hottest sound for cutting through a mix
Honestly they all sound amazing; it’s like trying to pick a favorite child.
Especially with Tyler’s awesome playing!
i love reading comments, and comments like yours is why.
Is that because you know there is one but don’t want to diss the others?
Wrong
Les paul/tele: we’re the best
Strat: whammy bar
basically
@@danielcrane3353 I don’t even have my whammy on my strat lmao

@@heaton6971 shhhhh
It’s so true I want to get a tele but I really want a whammy bar
Please tell me I’m not the only one who even after watching this has no clue which one they like more because they’re all so amazing
It's really hard to decide between these three. They all have iconic tones and history but I'd say the telecaster is the most versatile and reliable of the three, and that bridge pickup with overdrive is pure single coil magic
i replaced the strat bridge pup with one that is like a tele pup.
SG is the best of these lmao

@@seek_and_destroy_ttt-ttt-40 good luck with your neck dive
I think the Telecaster is great for blues and hard rock like Led Zeppelin for example. When I play Heartbreaker on it I feel like Jimmy Page. The Telecaster’s sound is exactly what I am looking for to recreate Led Zeppelin songs. I would highly recommend
No winner! Having all three is a MUST...
In two different colors
And you need 2 Les Pauls, one with P90’s!
I own a Strat, Les Paul will be my next guitar. Won't be buying a Tele, they just aren't attractive to me.
@@ces69 you also need a Les Paul Jr...just sayin ;)
@@davidwhite206 I have all 3. I've had a 1976 tele for decades but hate it! Just recently I got my first American made Fender strat and last week my new Gibson Les Paul came in. I love both the strat and LP but I find myself playing the LP more. Phenomenal guitar!
I owned a Strat and tele. Then I bought a les paul. Needless to say, I love the LP, it has inspired a different side of my playing. I never quite found it with the other 2. It’s a transcendent experience to say the least. I respect all 3. But I love the LP
Nothing sounds or feels quite like a Les Paul.
I agree, Paul all the way
I have a les Paul, but it’s slab body feel is too bulky and uncomfortable for me to play. I bought a jazzmaster HH and fell in love
@@robertemerson1087 my cheap squire can duplicate the hh lp sound no problem.
If I were to record using an lp and then record the same thing on my squire, I dought you could identify which is the lp.
This happens because I know how to adjust the tone on my amp and use the right technique to get the lp tone.
The lp tone,"sound" is the easiest to duplicate.
The single coil pick up get better tone than humbuckers so it's easy to duplicate any humbucker with a single coil
Shorter scale lenght and different neck profile is what bought me with Les Paul. I owned few starts, but those were not for me. I will get Tele and strat, but LP will be my main guitar.
I'm in love with a mix of the Tele and the Les Paul. Those two can balance each other out so well.

Jim Root, also lol
A Tele is all I need. IMO, it's the most versatile of the lot- there's a reason it's a favourite among session guitarists. It can do everything from hard rock/metal (Status Quo anyone?) to Blues (Roy Buchanan) to Country (take your pick) to Jazz (Ed Bickert- master of the Jazz Telecaster). The original solid body electric, and still the best!
100 percent agree. I’d really only classify myself as barely an intermediate player but I have a fender shiflett Tele and there’s nothing it can’t do incredibly well. It has to be far and away the best budget guitar out there
Spot on! I have a Les Paul and a Strat, but they barely see the light of day since I bought a Tele two years ago.

All 3 sonically sound great in their own ways. Side note: I love how your Strat looks with the natural wood grain. Never seen that before. It's beautiful.
The neck and middle pickups on a strat working together is IT.
Doesn't really cut a mix tbh
@@williamphillips3365 Overdrive peddle.
If you like the sound of garbage, and are also in the 1950s, then yes agreed
Every single Strat should have a series switch. Single coils sound great but sometimes humbucker thickness is preferable, and two singles in series is basically that. Brian May's Red Special has that option with its three Burns single coils and he's often said that bridge and middle in series has been his default rock tone for Queen. The Deluxe Strats had it with their S1 Switching and it opens up so many possibilities with those three pickups. Really makes three singles a kind of ultimate versatility setup.
The Tele is the most versatile. Tons of recordings you think were on an LP or Strat were on a Tele, Broadcaster, Nocaster or Esquire. A good one will play anything well in my opinion.
Your right! Its just the shape of the tele that just dosen't do it for me.
Definitely true but they are just so ugly I’m my opinion hahah
Yuo need to grow into a tele. At the start I loved only les pauls. I never liked strats as the shape felt just so 'common'. And I almost never looked at the teles. It's been 13 years and tele is now my beautiful go-to guitar.
People associate Jimmy Page with a Les Paul because he played that live most of the time but most of his recordings on the first 4 albums were done with his Tele
@@sbkoalala6020 The first album, yes. After JP got his Les Paul off Joe Walsh in late 1969 he rarely used a Tele again.
That prog section needs to be made into a full song, please make it happen.
Edit: throw in one minute solo using your custom PRS, you are one of the most technically proficient guitarist on UA-cam. Respect.
For me it’s the Telecaster! You can have every type of pickup in the guitar to change up the voicing and it can take it! Great across all genres and fits my name Cath plus telecaster = TeleCathster!
So does Strat… stratocathster???
What does that have to do with which one you prefer though lol
a high quality tele is probably the only electric guitar you'll ever need ... diggin this one especially. the black pick guard looks so cool as well.
Any advice for buying one? Only electric I've ever owned has been an Alvarez Classic II, 90s Korean Stratocaster knockoff. I'm sick of tuning it constantly, and would love a guitar with 24 frets that does amazing intonation, with the over-driven telecaster sound. I finally have the ability to spend some money...
@@FancyNoises buy it dude
Les Paul: smooth and warm
Strat: loose and spanky
Tele: tight and chimey
According to this description I chose Gibson, but I care more about tuning, cuz pickups can be changed u know
exactly
teles are also quite precise, tiny bit of vibrato goes a long way on a tell, easy to bend on a strat, less pauls just feel like a quick guitar
Tele for me
Les Paul: guitar
Strat: guitar
Tele: guitar
They’re all amazing, the war around them should stop, just choose whichever you wanna use
I bought a Tele (over 15 years ago) for some twang and found out in a big hurry that those things handle rock amazingly well. Way better than a Strat does, IMO. I miss that thing and someday I'll have one again.

The Les Paul is used on most of my favorite sounding classic rock / hard rock music albums. The super strat in the form of a Jackson Soloist, is on most of my favorite 80’s metal albums.

Being fortunate enough to own a few of all three, I have to say that there is no clear “winner”, since each of them can really play any musical style very well. It’s a matter of what feels best in your hands and inspires the music. Great overview on them! Keep shredding, Tyler!
I never paid attention to the tele. Now, I love it. Wow does it sound out of this world!
It’s the original and still around for a reason
Reaaly simple design that didnt change much since the early 50's. It's magic.
I'd be interested in hearing the Les Paul and the Strat on the country trial, but, respectfully, I feel the Paul is best for rock and roll and blues simply for the fact that it has more BALLS!.
Great little video.
Keep 'em coming.
Out of your 3 guitars, I think the strat was the most unique sounding, the LP and the tele sound great but very much like other LPs and teles out there, but there was something about your strat's tone that made it stand out compared to other strats that I've heard, it just made me go "ooh, that's nice..."
I'm a massive Strat fan myself. I'm always loved the feel and comfort of a Strat, and the tonal versatility is something to behold. I own two strats, a Squier and a Fender Player HSS Strat, and both of them are an absolute joy to play. My Squier Strat is more of a jamming instrument than anything else, I'll usually play it when practicing or warming up. My Fender Strat is a workhorse for a fact. I'm a metalhead first and foremost, and my Fender handles that easily, while also letting me switch to a softer, bluesier sound just witha pickup switch and roll of the volume knob. Really the only thing missing from making it perfect for me is a non-locking floating bridge of some kind, and then it's my dream guitar. Love my Strats, both of them, and literally every other guitar I own with only 2 exceptions have the Strat Shape.
Just about every Charvel, Jackson, Ibanez player would like a word with you about what shreds more.
I think the shred is in the player not the guitar... aka Zack Wylde or Yngwie Malmsteen or John 5... Think that covers all three guitars !!!
Superstrats master race!
@@johngrey7089 its really difficult to shred on any of these guitars and I say this as an absolute fender and Gibson fan.
Strat is still the best out of the three but a modern metal guitar is much better
At the end I expected “…and now one to rule them all, PRS”
I have always not really liked the necks on my PRS's....I love my Gibson and Fender necks.
The strat will always always always be my favorite guitar. Grew up playing it, and still play it to this day. Will never love anything more. It has such a familiar and comforting sound, and is so comfortable to play because I’m so used to it.
I´m impressed with the shredding Telecaster! I wasn´t expecting that it would sound better than the strat. But it does to my ears! Amazing
Having all 3 is the only way. If you can live with just one I guess your just missing the point. Playing on these guitars inspires completely different music. Maybe it's just the way they feel, but writing music it is a pleasure to play all 3. Each time I pick one up it makes me play in a different manor and I create differently from if nothing else just the feel. Love them all!
Sound is subjective, living with one may mean someone has tried them all and that particular style is what they connect with or sooths their soul. If you get that feeling with one guitar, you're not missing anything at all. In fact, you've found what many spend a lifetime chasing.
Well said.. the inspiration part should never be overlooked when choosing a guitar - and preferably get all the ones you love.

They're all great, but the Teli is the love of my life. The L.P. is crunchy, the Strat is smooth, the Telecaster is somehow both & something more.
I really like the tone of the telecaster. I have just put hot rails in my telecaster and it sounds wonderful!
I think using a Les Paul for Rock 'n Roll is definitely correct, but I'd say tele's are best for indie rock, particularly as rhythm guitar, and the strat as lead guitar or an ES-335.
Also, for this, I kinda think the ES-335 should be included.
That shred on the tele is just soo unexpected and mindblowing
Dude. I love watching your videos when baked. I just vibe with the music you play. Alllll the love bigdog ❤
Yeah but the tele does rock, blues, country, funk, and happens to be good for worship music too. Makes great sounds both clean and distorted. Stays in tune. Nice understated looks. String tension and scale length allows easier switching between acoustic and electrics as well, as an added bonus.
I think, as a long time LP player, that it's partly what you first pick up and get used to. I prefer the short scale, just don't bond with the sound or feel of Strats, although I do enjoy nice Tele's. As much as I am not a Strat fan, a LOT of Rock has been played on them. But to me, they are thin where the LP is full and chunky, and that's what I like! Since a lot of tone is in the fingers, I also think that the way folks play and sound dictates which type of guitar they gravitate to, and either the type of music they play and write points them to a specific type of guitar, or the type of guitar they play dictates/influences the style of music they play and write - or both!
They are all amazing. But finding the “right” pick up makes all the difference. Even though ex Tele pick up sounds of Tele, there are big difference in sound/tone depending on the pick up.
I love the Tele in a grunge or alt-rock setting. I think it sounds awesome in drop and other alternative tunings with some fuzz. But it also sounds amazing with a super clean super clean amp with reverb, much in the style of Jeff Buckley.
Great vid as always sir. I have a Player Nashville, learning to play and having fun.
You explained the 3 differences so well. Also your living room is a gem! James Deagle
From a purely aesthetic point of view, I love the Tele. I love it’s simplicity.
My Tele. made me play better. I still don’t know how it did that but there is something magical about a telecaster. To be dead honest though I’ve never played a high end Les Paul. I suppose I need to try one out. I just feel like they’re uncomfortable to play.
Well if u've never played a big fat neck and flatter radius, yes. It felt too weird for me when I tried one but I like the sound. Also a Tele lover here

I prefer the feel of a tele but the abilities of a les Paul
@theshadowknows Les Paul lover here.. The LPs are simply unforgiving. Like the ocean, you must comply with its nature. However in my opinion you can't go wrong having all 3. They are a staple in any guitar collection
Nah. You just gotta hold your mouth just right on the LP to make it more comfy to play….😏🥴🤤🙃

Most of your videos are of that level. I'm not a guitar player myself but I love your videos they are entertaining and educational.
I've grown to really love the bridge on telecasters, I got a G&L, split coil humbucker in the neck, hot single coil on the bridge position, and I wired it so I can blend the two back and forth with a pot, ocean spray green color with gold hardware, I love the thing
I'm currently in the market for a cheap tele for recording purposes (I'm a bassist but am missing a guitar to lay down some tracks). I found the tele to be the most versatile for the genres I'm switching between (jazz, fusion, r&b, funk, rock). Like he said though, ultimately any guitar can be used for any genre and it comes down to your personal taste on sound and feel to find what is right for you.

Telecaster all the way. I know it is subjective, but the Tele always gives me the chills.
I couldn't decide if I liked my Strat or my Les Paul (both off brand) more. Then half the humbucker died in the bridge position on the Les Paul, and my tech wired it up as a single coil, now I have humbucker and single coil on my LP and it sounds awesome. It's also over 40 years old and I want to keep as much of the original hardware in there as I can.
Neck and middle Strat pickup position is the holy grail of tone
As a wise man once said a Telecaster can do a pretty good approximation of most other guitars but no other guitar can do a Telecaster!
what's so amazing about the strat is not how it sounds, but how it FEELS when you're playing it. nothing beats it
I Love the Tele. perfect tone
Thanks for mastering all those guitars and genres so you could bring us this comparison! Even though I already own all three and five amps, I watched with fascination. I'm always amazed at how well that dinosaur Telecaster design holds up! I stuck a Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbucker into the neck of mine, Keith Richards style. Took some tinkering to get it to balance well with the bridge but now it's wonderful including the middle (blend) position. I love them all, but my '63 sunburst Danocaster double cut (S style) has been my favorite ever since it was made for me ~ 10 years ago. It felt like an old pair of jeans from Day 1 - like a genuine 50-year-old guitar.
Just seeing the shred round and the Tele has already just taken it home for me, I’ve never been a les Paul or Stratocaster fan. But the telecaster I love
I have an LP and a Strat and a Tele. It's best to have all three. But the Tele for me is my favorite. It's so versitle and has something about it that just hooks me in, more than my other guitars
"Stratocaster, Telecaster or Les Paul?"
Me: " *Jazzmaster* "
I love them all, but the strat is the strat for me
I always enjoy watching, listening to be specific, someone that is more used to playing humbucker guitars pickup single coil instruments. They have this nice soft touch which allows the note to bloom.
I have a Tele HH. Just perfect, the comfort, the tone, the neck shape. And it’s just beautiful.
Roy Buchanan's blues on his ancient Telecaster! What an incredible sound. RIP Roy!
Just want to tell you that you are the best. Cheers.
Les Paul Is Les Paul 🥀❤️
What About Squire Bullet?😆
Your playing is godlike!! So much emotions in it
I am a very casual player that has only ever picked up a guitar to mess around with at home. I've had two strats, and then a talman, before landing on my LPC about 10 years ago. Immediately became a Les Paul stan, thought nothing would ever sound as good to my ear. But good golly, you made that tele sound heavenly!
