  • Daiwa USA brought over and sold a few hundred Daiwa Kyohga reels. Unfortunately they are refusing to service what they sold. The sad thing is. I was told when I inquired that Daiwa USA would service this originally JDM exclusive reel.
This reel was sold at JandH tackle. After he couldn't get Daiwa to service the reel. He contacted me to see if I could help.
This is a step by step service tutorial showing how to service your Kyohga.
    Tools and Lubricants used.
    2.5 mm hex driver amzn.to/3r7IYSm
    000 Philips screwdriver amzn.to/2LHIQZu
    0 Pozidriv amzn.to/2WqjAJw
12 mm wrench (I most often use this one Knipex pliers wrench 6") amzn.to/3piQNTJ
I used the Roro Trust wrench in this video
    Pick set amzn.to/38hsAWH
    Lubricants:
    Corrosion X oil amzn.to/38qzlFK
    Aquashield grease bit.ly/aquashie...
    Tsi 321 oil bit.ly/-TSI-321...
(I mix corrosionx oil with the aquasheild to thin, It appears to play nicely and I've used it on about 75 reels in that manner without issue)
I also cut my TSI 321 for small bearings with 100% Isopropyl alcohol which helps in distribution and over oiling as it flashes off
Do not mix TSI with grease.

@@hosu5724 yea man, different people have different experiences. I know people who hate the bike company because they sent it in and had to jump through hoops. I never send reels in so for me the most important thing is how easily I can order parts. Only reason I sent my Daiwa in was because it was brand new and I could could tell right away a gear had stripped. I still own several Lexas but I can get all the parts off eBay or third party sites. Just saying a roller clutch from Daiwa is like 40$...a schimano roller clutch never cost me more than 22$

I see a lot of reels (models sold in the US and models not offered here) for sale on eBay that state that the reel being offered is in Japan. If I'm willing to roll the dice and take my chances on the warranty and servicing is there any other reason to not buy a Japanese reel from Japan? Are these rejects or seconds from the manufacturing process or are they legitimately decent reels?

I have a Saltiga BJ 100 SH. It looks like the same reel. Does this reel have magseal? I would like to break mine down, but it has magseal. I watched your video on the spinning reels with magseal, it looks like a PITA to get the bearings out. Where is the magseal on the casting reels, on the side plate and in the bearings? Any place else? Thanks, Roger
PS, I found when they side plate goes back on you need to rotate the spool to get those plastic gears to engage, if you don’t they will be damaged. Maybe that’s what happened with the owner of this reel

That's a complicated reel to service. To bad you're on your own with it. I live in Scandinavia and I really hope Daiwa Scandinavia will service my JDM reels I bought over here...even though Daiwa over here are pretty famous for not being very efficient with service. I'd be pretty disappointed if they wouldn't service them. Normark, the distributor of Shimano until this autumn, havn't been good at the service department either so over here you kind of do best by learning to service your reels by yourself.

For me , it's always been neck and neck performance wise between Shimano & daiwa , withstanding (fully submersible reels like van stal , zbass of course) . But I always lean towards Shimano because I've always felt that if you purchase a Shimano reel from a authorized dealer in the usa , Shimano always stand behind their product and I've had a positive experiences with their service department. Now after this , it gives me further pause on buying a high dollar daiwa reels ( I currently own a few of their midrange reels ,which are excellent) because of this video and the fact that a regular consumer cannot directly purchase magseal oil has strengthened my beliefs. Am i misinformed?

Sounds like Daiwa USA is about as good as Daiwa Australia. I sent a basically new JDM Daiwa reel to Daiwa Australia after it was submerged due to an upturned kayak in salt water, it took them two weeks to look at it, they then gave me a quote of over $300 to "fix" it. The reel only cost me $300 to buy, I declined the offer and had the reel returned. I dismantled it myself, cleaned and lubricated every part (mag fluid was still in place but has been replaced in a subsequent service by me) and reassembled it. No parts needed replacing and the reel is still working perfectly 8 years later.

Wow, how did you get your hands on legit daiwa mag-sealed oil? The daiwa authorized 3rd party repair shops here refused to sell any. They will only clean and top up the mag seal oil bearings if you sent in the whole reel for servicing.

    • @geoffdrew5207

@@kwong7058 The fluid I used is not genuine Daiwa, my son bought it for me when on an overseas deployment (RAAF pilot). It works fine and seems to be holding up as well as the original Daiwa fluid. Daiwa should be charged by consumer rights authorities for not selling the fluid, as a company I have zero respect for them but they do make some good reels.

If a reel gets geary... Grease usually won't make a difference... Send it in for service.. You can't do much without the side plate tool.. Adding Penn grease on top of Daiwa grease likely didn't do much to help.

Usually something not good... Too tough to tell without seeing it first hand. If something is clanking around it may or may not have something to do with what's causing the bind up.. Why would that line guide move with the clutch pressed ?

    • @kwong7058
      @kwong7058 3 роки тому +1

It's a synchronise line guide system, pretty common for light to medium-light saltwater or heavier freshwater fishing. It's to prevent the line guide from snapping off during quick first runs or heavy load retrievals. Also helps with line management- the braid is always laid inline with line guide, smoother payout of line, less likely-hood of line breaking from friction rub against line guide.
