I refuse to go higher than a 5K in this series which the 5000 is definitely on the heavy side in weight itself. Honestly, if memory serves me right the 4500/5000 are very similar in weight if not the same. That being said, I myself have a 3K, 3500H, two 4Ks, and a 5K, didn’t pay over $100 on any some were new and they don’t just catch fish, if you use em right they handle em. 💪
Just had another look at this Nick, I watched it back when I was buying my Daiwas, my 3500 has been abused, underwater, in the rain on top of my car, and it needs a little lovin'. Great video, I know what I'm doing this morning.
This is one of, if not the best, how to video on UA-cam. Great job from start to finish. My reel got hit with a rogue wave which made my reel feel like a sandy mess. This helped me get it back to running smoothly.
Dude. That was so helpful. I fell down holding my rod, and the main shaft on my spinning reel got bent. I bought a new shaft for six dollars. I had no idea how to change that out, but followed this video. My reel is as good as new! Thank you
Bought the 2000 size on your recommendation nearly 2 years ago, now did a full service following this guide. Considering it has taken countless dunks in freshwater from kayaking and trout fishing in rapids and on pecarious grounds,it works as brand new still after maintenance. Thanks again, you are the man!
You’re a gentleman and a scholar. My BG got swamp washed today and it has more sand in it than a Sahara dust storm. This really helped. Thank you very very much!
This is the best detailed video of fishing reel service anyone could ever ask for . Thank you for sharing your professional expertise on servicing a daiwa black and gold . Anyone should feel comfortable servicing their reels, after watching your great video.
Have two of these reels and recently one started to jam. Found this video, stripped it down, and put it back together. First time I've done this and I don't have anything close to an engineer's mind. Quite straight forward, apart from minute 39 when you quietly couple the cam gear with the main shaft! Didn't see that first time around so had to go back in a second time! Otherwise a very useful film! Thanks.
Just wanted to personally thank you for this video as I had a bearing retaining clip pop out and I couldn't figure how to get it back in. The cut q-tip method was the trick! I held a small pen light in my teeth to illuminate the bearing lip and that helped as well. As a side note, (and you probably already know this now), but the extra plastic washer under the spool is to adjust the line load angle to help prevent backlashes...according to Daiwa. This explains why some reels have it and some don't as some people have used it to set the spool a bit lower on the shaft. Thank you!
Great video! Thanks Tackle Advisors. But... I've just opened up my new 2500 for some preventive maintenance and found out that there are small differences between models. There can be a washer at the screw holding the case-bumper (at 16:20) sitting between the bumper and the case. It's not shown here nor in the shematics but both my 1500 and 2500 have it. The top cap covering the A-R clutch at 17:20 can sit on two tiny brass washers not shown in this video. There is also an arrow on the top cap that needs to point upwards > towards the foot of the reel. So beware and keep a REALLY close eye on all the parts in your particular model.
You sir are a blessing to the UA-cam and the fishing community. Took me an hour to service and grease up my BG 3500 my buddy dunk in the Atlantic Ocean. Thanks again!!!
Can't thank you enough. Your video has helped me restore all my Daiwa reels. The bearing disassemble was tough at first. I find certain greases are an issue with colder weather.
This is the first video I actually used to service my Diawa BG 4000, the reel turned out butter smooth, I’m always watching your tear down videos of the shimano and penn, even tho I don’t own a certain series of Shimano//Penn, I still find those videos entertaining!
Thanks for your video. On late December bought my first Daiwa bg4000, loved it so much I bought a 4500 last week. Today was my third time fishing my 4000 and felt a little difficult to crank the reel, did not feel smooth and soft as the first time. I really appreciate your comments and guide to what could be the problem, considering is a new reel. Thanks
Thank you!!!...the bail on mine wasn't springing and you showed me how it worked and how to reassemble it!!!...got it!!! Now the bail snaps again like it should.
Awesome video! In most videos I see, the only thing people do is just oil the roller bearing and lube the shaft. That will slightly help and make it a little smoother, but you really have to break it down and clean and grease everything. Especially the gears and bearings inside.
It's so awesome to have these detailed teardown's when in the market for reels. I strip mine down each year for cleaning and it's nice to see how they are designed internally. Have you considered doing a video at some point of all the different tools, lubes, oils, and cleaners you prefer for your reel maintenance?
Thanks for this! After using my bg's for over a year (sweet water mostly) I managed to service them, removed most of the grease and used interflon super only on all the moving parts. The result is amazing and they spin even better then when I got them. They may not be sealed with grease as before but don't need that. Furthermore interflon is water repellant as well as far as I understood. Big thanks again as I would have never opened them up😉
It's funny I have 5 reels for 25 years never greeced or oiled them. The only thing that stopped working is the line guide.i wish some told me how to maintain it a long time ago Thank you tackle advisor for giving me the guts to open all my old reels up
Serviced a BG 6500 today of a surf fisherman. Had a raspy noise, relatively new reel maybe 10 trips nothing crazy treating it. Said he'd tried to service it himself and it came out raspy. Turns out your cotton swab turned upside down to reset the non handle side bearing is important. He'd taken something hard trying to reset that bearing completely to out the retaining clip on. The entire cover of the bearing was chattered and dented. Took the covers off the bearing and it spun beautifully. Put the covers back on and it was raspy. I ended up packing the two main gear bearings which eliminated 75% of the raspy sound but it's a good lesson to share I thought. I love these reels and HATE that design. That non handle side bearing and retaining clip is a pain and I don't really understand why they designed it that way.
Awesome video, just a heads up, the plastic washer is to allow for even distribution of the line, sometimes as you reel in it lines up in an angle, with that washer it ensure the line gets reel in perfectly even
Nick I have a question. Does the handle switch from the left hand to the right hand for right hand retrieve? Just wondering thinking about getting one myself, but i am not sure if it can switch sides sense i retrieve right hand not left
@@Anthony-nx7di to be honest when I first picked up the BG4500 I tried to switch it from left to right hand retrieve with no success, I'm not sure if I am not doing it correctly but it's not like other reels like the Shimano Nasci 5000 for example. I was able to switch it from left to right with ease. It would be best to check with your local retailer in case. Otherwise, my answer still remains, no it can't.
Can't find the comment but I asked you about a slight noise at the bottom of the spool cycle and you said it could be a bent spool shaft. You were correct I replaced the spool shaft and low and behold it was butter yet again. 6500 size and it's so easy to work on given the larger parts. Not than any reels are rocket science contrary to some UA-cam reviewers who don't even open them up. Still not sure how someone can "test a reel" let's say without knowing how it works.
@@TackleAdvisors I used it as an anchor rod and reel off a pier for a trolley/pin rig and I'm pretty sure I bent it trying to get the 8oz anchor weight to budge. Wasn't smart but I don't own a cheap round reel to heave out there. Most guys use old Abu 6500 type reels and I saw two AR's give out on the same day.
Your tutorials and explanations are very informative and i thank you for sharing your knowledge.Turorial like yours saves me money .I serviced all my Bg reels by myself using this video. Grateful subscriber.🎣🎣🎣
Thanks for making this video. I'll be watching it closely tonight while I try to fix mine. Went surf fishing 3 times and now it really has issues turning. Using the Abu Garcia maintenance kit, hopefully it can help with all the salt water and corrosion.
I have several old silver series reels that I've used for DECADES, and I will say without question that even though they aren't as smooth or sophisticated as these modern reels, they will easily outlast them with proper maintenance. I've gotten rid of some of my modern reels because they've turned out to be junk. Just my experience and opinion.
@@Belvedere3834spd I think your experience and opinion are spot on! I was talking to a friend a minute ago about fishing with our 1950s vintage large Luxor No. 3 reels. To me there have been only a very few reels built since those Luxors that even have a chance at competing with them. Just this afternoon I got a mint Mitchell 498 Super. PPUM saltwater reel you simply can’t believe. I also just finished together a beautiful Mitchell 396 from parts and put on a NOS gray spool and Mitchell high speed handle. That reel can cast better than almost any modern reel. I know I’m extremely biased but I see no need to purchase modern reels even with their extraordinary features when I know they have no chance of standing the rest of time. My negative feelings and bad experiences with modern reels started with a Quantum Cabo Saltwater Reel that I bought for a lot of money that didn’t last 5 years. This was in spite of the fact that I meticulously take care of my reels. Never again!
Really enjoyed the tutorial! My fishing buddy bought the same reel on my recommendation. After a couple of months it started binding which usually means the shaft was bent. I had one helluva time getting that shaft out. The bend was right where the shaft enters the slide. I just got lucky. Put the flat end of the shaft in a vise and prayed. It slipped right into the slide with no bind and the reel has been working ever since. I was surprised the shaft was so wimpy where everything else in the bg was overbuilt.Sure wish your tutorial was around when I took the reel apart.
Thanks Pat! Glad you liked it Man...that's an oddball place for it to bend. Especially with all the different angles of support.....But I saw the exact same thing on the penn z i tore down when i did the star s7000 review. Tried getting it out and blew out the pinion....tried torching it.....had to replace parts before I even did the review...lol Well unless youtube goes out of business...it'll be up the next time ya tear it down :) Lemme take a guess...was it a 5k size and fish the cape cod canal??
It was a 4000. We use it here in the gulf of mexico primarily to catch bonito [false albacore], although we do use it for mangroves when we are chumming.
Damn....I was close...lol...only 1800 miles off :) I'd be willing to bet the damage came from taking a hit. maybe in gunnel holders or storage. You guys have all the fun...Albies around here come through for about amonth and they're usually moving full steam ahead if surf casting for them. And if in a boat...generally 200 new yorkers are casting over your t top...lol
Hey thanks for sharing this indepth, professional maintenance guide! It would be amazing if you could make a BG mq or Saltist MQ guide. Other people did it in other languages, but not as comprehensive as you, you grease and oild as you go. Thanks again for sharing this it is going to help me a lot with my saltist MQ as Daiwa servicing is not great in Europe. Cheers🎉
I let a friend of mine borrow my BG6500 to do some surf fishing in NC. Got it back and it felt fine but over the next 6 weeks it got a little choppy. I opened it up and it was FULL of salt. Every nook and cranny was full of salt. The gearbox had salt chunks all over it, under the drag knob, under the rotor, the handle. The only places there was no salt was the actual drag washers and the AR clutch and sleeve. It was 10,000 times worse inside that it felt when spinning it. My buddy must have dropped it in the surf, went for a swim with it, something crazy. I broke it down entirely. Ultrasonic and a bowl of vinegar were helpful but a scrub pad and steel wool were best. It's got a decent gear grind now but it's fishable. Glad I didn't let him borrow my Saltiga.
awesome video, my bg4000 was starting to seize up on slow retrieves thanks to my last surf trip. followed this step by step and the reel works like a charm, now its just time to get that fancy grease like you!!
Hi Tackle Advisor, I purchased a Spinfisher VI 4500 on your advice a couple of years back and it has served me great. Can you do a video on how to do a full service on the same reel?
best like for your great job. With too much grease the reel will be not smooth and light as brand new, but when retrieving a fish there is no difference. It sounds weird but the best time you grease it up is the first time you unbox the reel, before getting this to the sea.
the best maintenance and service tutorial i have ever seen . I dont like the Shimano reels compare with the BG you must spend alot of money for worther stuff but i alsso like the okuma reels - nice grears and prices .
this was helpful as shit and saved my ass when i thought i'd service my own reel. took me hours to get right, but hey, all the parts are in and everything seems to be working well.
One more tip.... since the BG doesn’t have the nice case gasket that the Penn Slammer does. You can seal the case if you run a small bead of RTV on the cover before it’s installed. You can also seal the black cap that screws on opposite the handle. Nice video just thought i would share the info.
I get that and it would work. But grease would work just as well. water getting in between the frame and sideplate and non handle cap are more often than not. Not the issue. And any gaps can be filled just as effectively with grease. And deep water dunks will get in from the ar clutch and main shaft areas anyway. Which is why it's not really worth it. For the Cabo that has an ar clutch seal and nothing else...maybe. but not the bg. Good idea though....FYI...i tried this with rtv 2 with the Gosa FA 10 years ago :)
@@TackleAdvisors great video, extremely helpful to us guides who have no choice but to do our own service and repairs, big thanks from Belize central America.
Awesome video man! You sure do go liberal with the grease lol. I'm sure this video will go viral with how many people own this reel and you really do cover all the bases.
Thanks brotha! HELL YEAH....I had a touch of the flu when filming it...so hopefully that has an impact on views...lol As a surf caster for decades....it's only recently we have a bunch of sealed options out there. It used to be just VS, saltiga z and the mitchell banana....NOw penn torque, Zeebass, saragosa, spheros, shield etc offer waterproofing. This method of protecting reels has been done for many years...in fact we used to fully pack the entire cavity of some reels. Hey ...did i respond to your question about the ferrofluid? The stuff i use is VSG 203a.....it's what Ferrotec recommended for my purpose. It's friggin expensive..70-100$ for 3ml. They gave me a 3ml sample. Contact Shipwreck who is a member on stripers online.com he should be able to send you some (in order to PM him you need to be a member. It's show season and he's the head daiwa rep so he's a bit bogged down. But worth the effort tracking him down. Just read the rules when you sign up as it takes a few posts and days to be able to send pms.
SWEET! My 2500 is on it's way- come on Dec.25! Hopefully break it in the 26. Just walked in the door and clicked on your channel for the feebay link to order some more Christmas goodies and found the link to this vid-Woo Hoo! Christmas came early. Thank You, can't wait to watch it!
Nice video thanks a lot I use wd40 spray to remove the bearing cap and I use ptfe liquid grease inside the bearing....that's a lot grease over the gears ⚙
I love lube and I go pretty hard on the lube with my BG's because I had one get FULL of salt. At the same time, I feel like so much of this grease is just gonna end up in the case, not really doing much but being it's awesome sticky self. Maybe that's the idea but as soon as those gears mesh that's a lot of grease that's squeezing out into the case. I use a product called tefgel for where the two sides of the case interact and it does well.
LOL....those certates are sweet! Can't believe they sold so poorly in japan that US dealers were allowed to buy JDM stock and retail them here for half price. Figured based on looks alone it would a killer against the twinpower. The HD versions are saltigas bj's with a step down in gearing (which is more than adequate)
Really....Damn...I'd sell em if it were me...I'm having a furious internal debate as whether or not I should sell off my 08 stella sw's.... I like them better than the current ones....but new ones are coming in a year...and gotta strike while the iron is hot.....If you go two gens out..the value drops out.
The greatest Reel Maintenance video ever! I always see this video when I do the maintenance of my Daiwa BG, I always fish from the surf or on kayaks, so this video it's perfect to give this extra protection that I need. I have a question, why there is no grease needed in the clutch? Pura Vida from Costa Rica.
Thanks man! Glad it proved helpful. I don't show greasing or lubing the clutch because it can cause the anti reverse to fail. It can be done but if ya mess up and get lube on the top and bottom of the cylinders it's a major pain to get out
I recently used Penn precision grease in two of my Daiwa BG 5000. First I applied it as it is but the reel became too hard. Then opened both of them again mixed 50 50 ratio of penn grease and synthetic motor oil. Now it spins light.
Awesome video. Really have a better understanding of my new reel. I just bought the 5000 BG and the 6500 BG taking apart the 5000 but stalled after the spool cannot seem to take the washers off? Any suggestions. Have taking apart the main gear apart no problems. I believe that the grease that comes with any new reel is no adequate & that is the reason I am took mine apart to grease them up with some good Pen grease . Looks quite similar to what ur used in your video.. keep up the good work very much appreciated. Sami
Hello , I just bought a bg 3000 last week and I’ve been spinning all days, today the reel start to be hard to crank and I’m feeling the vibration on the tooth engaging between the main gear and the pinion. I’m going to sent it back to Daiwa, but what could to be the problem ? Thanks and continue the good work on the channel
if you tighten the side plate too much it will press the pinion and main gear against each other and gears will not mesh together properly. Also the back of the main gear will touch the side plate while rotating.
awesome video with great details , i d like if, you have spare time of course , to upload a bg nero the non magsealed edition . Assuming that more or less all kind of mechanisms that exists out there are more or less the same but still i d like to watch. Also wondering if the line roller from this bg can fit into the newer edition cause at my opinion this one is way better than the new model . Thank you in advance and keep up the excellent work . Best regards
Awesome video If you dunked the reel in salt water, would you perform a complete teardown afterwards? Or does all the grease you are using in theory prevent any water getting to the parts? If you do planning on teardown water a dunk, what's the benefit of the generous amount of grease? I ask this because I used to also pack it with grease, now I rather put less and teardown more frequently
This is a great video to learn from! Question - I have the BG4000, which I dropped in the lake and only submerged for 15 minutes. Also I had dropped it twice fishing on the banks. Now when I turn the handle it seems very loose, and not catching the rotor, which does and does not spin. Note - As is turning the handle the rotor does not spin, however if I push the handle in (towards the right), the it will catch the rotor and then it spins. What could be the problem?
Awesome video and thanks for the info! Also I just bought this reel last week I have taken it out once I live in an area in NC where brackish water is everywhere! Rivers to sounds to the ocean. I liked all the reviews on this reel and I'm excited to see how it performs in the future. My biggest question is when would you recommend that I do maintenance on this BG 3000?
Hi, great video. I disassembled, cleaned, lubed, and reassembled my BG3500 using this video as I guide. I now experience a knocking sensation when reeling, even after disassembling and cleaning a second time. I think it might be the slot on the main shaft rubbing against the portion of the OSC gear that goes into the slot, but I can't figure out how to fix it. Any ideas?
I did a little googling....as I remembered seeing a picture of an avet opened up and it had some weird teal colored stringy looking grease....turns out...in a thread on Alan tani's site. Avet now uses aqua shield throughout all their reels. (I haven't been in a newer avet in awhile) even on their gearing.....so.....I may have to put my beloved corrosion x on the bench for a bit and play around more with this crap than just blocking water and packing bearings.
Yah I hear ya after your video i found the same thread. Must be pretty good on gears for them to use it. Thanks for introducing it to me excited to try it.
Now listen..;).I remember your teardown on the daiwa inshore reel...this stuff isn't what I would want to get on your dining room table :) By the way. How did you like that reel? Another "subscriber" Dom was asking me about it. And i don't have a need for small inshore baitcasters...so coldn't really give him any feedback other than blue tatula.....How'd it holdup this season.
Tackle Advisors haha that's where I film my video because it has the best lighting. A have a desk where I do all my servicing and rigging it's actually a pretty sweet setup. I don't use that reel that much anymore because I got a chronarch e7 and a zillion coastal which are both superior imo. When I used the heck out of it for a year straight the ar bearing rusted out and had to replace other than that held up really well. Sorry for the long response.
great video. I appreaciate the time you put into it. I have a bg 2500 that's only been fished thrice and its developed an issue where theres a small bit of resisitance when starting to crank the reel. i assume i have to tear down and regrease whatever is causing it to bind. any expert opinion on where to focus would be appreciated. thanks in advance.
Thanks Ronghoward, I'd say make sure the spool shaft isn't gunked up. And take a look at whats around the pinion gear. Usually when things get sluggish it's after the input side..Meaning handle / maingear bearings. And somewhere around the pinion / ar clutch/ pinion bearings.
Question! Would it be feasable to warm the grease to near liquid and dump the nearly assembled reel into the hot liquid grease, allowing it to fill all the cavities and coat all surfaces? Alternatively, an evaporating solvent, grease it, warm it up, allow the volatiles to evaporate leaving the grease? Just because my old fingers are not so nimble, nor am I liable to see and remember all things? Dental pics are nifty. Ultrasonic cleaners allow liquids to permeate EVERYthing. Very nice little reel!
the grease would separate at the required temps to get it into a liquid form and even if you did, you couldn't guaranty it would permeate into all of the necessary places. If you struggle to do the job yourself, then see if you can find a local tackle shop to assist you.
Just an FYI if anyone did what I did with that silly little clip that holds down the non gear side bearing. If that clip shoots off into the abyss never to be found again, and you don't want to pay to have a 50 cent piece shipped to you, you can make one that at least for me is easier to work with. I just took a piece of #5 single strand wire and made a circle slightly smaller than the piece the bearing sits over. I just use two micro screwdrivers to spread it out slightly so it fits over and into the gap. Bearing doesn't slide over the wire at all so it does the same job. To get it out just find the end of one side, push down, and the opposite side will move up. From there you're good to go. I did run the sharp ends of the circle on a piece of sand paper just so they're not sharp, but that's probably unnecessary. If you already have the tool to make loops in wire it's a 30 second process.
whats your long term assessment of AquaShield? Or maybe an updated video. I watched your original aquashield video, maybe a new video after a summer of fishing?

Awesome video, just a heads up, the plastic washer is to allow for even distribution of the line, sometimes as you reel in it lines up in an angle, with that washer it ensure the line gets reel in perfectly even
About ready to service my BG 4500, and this video is saved to my list just for that. Thanks for the fully in depth coverage bro!!!
@@nickrabauliman9164 ua-cam.com/video/EWR-yUZvnyY/v-deo.html
@@Anthony-nx7di Yes you can switch it from left to right.
Hey man! I remember it. Glad it was an easy fix and everything worked out!
This guy puts in WORK for us, thanks!
This was a life saver. My reel and I thanks you many times. Not sure I would have been able to put my reel back together without your video.
Awesome. Thanx for the time that spent making this movie. Spielberg class.Nothing left undone.
Best video for daiwa bg 4000, very detail and easy to follow.
Thank you
Your tutorials and explanations are very informative and i thank you for sharing your knowledge.Turorial like yours saves me money .I serviced all my Bg reels by myself using this video.
Very fine job! I love my old silver series 7000C in the surf. I’ll bet this BG is even better.
Thanks Pat! Glad you liked it
Man...that's an oddball place for it to bend. Especially with all the different angles of support.....But I saw the exact same thing on the penn z i tore down when i did the star s7000 review. Tried getting it out and blew out the pinion....tried torching it.....had to replace parts before I even did the review...lol
Well unless youtube goes out of business...it'll be up the next time ya tear it down :)
Lemme take a guess...was it a 5k size and fish the cape cod canal??
It was a 4000. We use it here in the gulf of mexico primarily to catch bonito [false albacore], although we do use it for mangroves when we are chumming.
Damn....I was close...lol...only 1800 miles off :)
I'd be willing to bet the damage came from taking a hit. maybe in gunnel holders or storage.
Cheers🎉
Finally, i was going through withdrawal from not seeing a new video! Sooo pumped for whats about to come next
Thank fark... I've been looking for this info for too long! Thanks mate!
awesome video, my bg4000 was starting to seize up on slow retrieves thanks to my last surf trip. followed this step by step and the reel works like a charm, now its just time to get that fancy grease like you!!
Thanks you saved both my reels and a lot of money
Thanks for this video. I took apart my cheaper Daiwa Legalis to clean it and I would be lost without this video!
Hi Tackle Advisor, I purchased a Spinfisher VI 4500 on your advice a couple of years back and it has served me great. Can you do a video on how to do a full service on the same reel?
I just serviced my Daiwa Ninja by following this turorial! Easy peasy!
Thanks a lot, Nick!
best like for your great job.
Tackle Advisors, you are awesome! I just bought a 5000BG and plan to do the same to it. Thank you so much!
Thanks for the step by step. I spend a lot of time in the surf and this was great.
Thanks for this excellent tutorial. I have several BG reels up to 8000. This video will be a great resource .
I have the 8k also amazing reels for big muttons and wreck groupers those large gears really help with the bigguns
Cool video. I’m looking for a video on correct placement for the bail trip lever spring(under the screw). I have a legalis 3000. Thank you
Spinning reels have come a long way since the Mitchell 300.
I know a few guys that still use those.
Great video, unlike most of the reel cleaning videos on UA-cam…😂
My BG 3500 spool brake is terrible. Lost too many lures due to premature bail closures. Now it sits on a shelf while I use a Shimano Spheros.
I think this is my 50th times watching this video. Thank you again.
Lol thanks man! glad it's proved helpful to ya!
Best tutorial ever! My BG works smoothly now. Thx!!
great video! Helped me quickly get my bail back together after it came loose mid cast!
This video just save me from breaking my 4500 top gear, won't com out without this retainer remove. thanks
It's even trickier in the Lt reels....gotta finagle it even after removing the clip....glad it proved helpful
HELL YEAH....I had a touch of the flu when filming it...so hopefully that has an impact on views...lol
As a surf caster for decades....it's only recently we have a bunch of sealed options out there.
Tackle Advisors awesome thanks I'll make sure to do that
Awesome!!!! Thanks Brotha!!!! Gonna do a tear down comparison with the bg, nasci, socorro, and shield. 4 very different reels at that 100$ ballpark.
You are a master at your trade love seeing you explain the process and additional fun comments! 😀
Excellent video. I just bought this reel too.
That aquashield grease looks a lot like marine grease, green sticky, and hard to clean up. But it works, I’ve used it in my John Deere lawn tractor.
I own 5 Daiwa Certate’s and I’m probably going to sell all of them and buy 5 BG’s. Amazing reel for the money.
My certates are all the first gen from around 2007, I can't get parts anymore.
It can be done but if ya mess up and get lube on the top and bottom of the cylinders it's a major pain to get out
@@TackleAdvisors Thanks a lot, now I understand.
Once again great video.
If you come to Costa Rica let me know! Pura vida!
Thanks man! And wouldn't that be a trip! One day I'll get down there!
Great Video. Thank you Thank you. What a gift to have access to your expertise.
Great video! I think even I could tear down my BGs and do real maintenance on them!
I recently used Penn precision grease in two of my Daiwa BG 5000. First I applied it as it is but the reel became too hard. Then opened both of them again mixed 50 50 ratio of penn grease and synthetic motor oil. Now it spins light.
Do you also have a video where i can watch and learn how to swap my handle right to left on my BG 8000 . Appreciate the video for sharing 🙏.
Sami
Would you happen to have any videos on the maintenance for Fuego series?
Hello , I just bought a bg 3000 last week and I’ve been spinning all days, today the reel start to be hard to crank and I’m feeling the vibration on the tooth engaging between the main gear and the pinion.
I’m going to sent it back to Daiwa, but what could to be the problem ?
Thanks and continue the good work on the channel
if you tighten the side plate too much it will press the pinion and main gear against each other and gears will not mesh together properly. Also the back of the main gear will touch the side plate while rotating.
If u keep the side plate too loose then u will feel play in the handle. Just tighten the screws medium.

awesome video with great details , i d like if, you have spare time of course , to upload a bg nero the non magsealed edition . Assuming that more or less all kind of mechanisms that exists out there are more or less the same but still i d like to watch. Also wondering if the line roller from this bg can fit into the newer edition cause at my opinion this one is way better than the new model . Thank you in advance and keep up the excellent work . Best regards
Awesome video
If you dunked the reel in salt water, would you perform a complete teardown afterwards? Or does all the grease you are using in theory prevent any water getting to the parts?
If you do planning on teardown water a dunk, what's the benefit of the generous amount of grease?
I ask this because I used to also pack it with grease, now I rather put less and teardown more frequently
Excellent job. Thanks for your time.
Thanks for taking the time to do this. I own 5 of these
Is bg really good and does it last long?
What a great tutorial and your fg knot video was excellent thanks mate
loved this man you helped me a bunch do you have one like this on a revo sx love to see it
I miss your video's. I hope your doing well.
Just what I needed for my squid fishing rod.
What could be the problem?
good lord! i thought the baitcaster had a lot of parts to keep track of.... nice vid!
Can you do a video on the all black magsealed BG. It looks amazing.
Looks amazing yes but for a few bucks more the Saltist has a lot more going for it over the BG than magseal.
Any ideas?
I have the exact problem. Did you figure out yours?
Also found a shop that caries the aqua shield here in orlando gonna pick some up in the next week to try it for my self.
Now listen..;).I remember your teardown on the daiwa inshore reel...this stuff isn't what I would want to get on your dining room table :)
By the way.
Don't even own a BG and I'm still watching this😉
great video.
Just used this a second time to fix my 3500 BG after it fell into the surf.. I also have a new sand spike now lol...
I from Brazil , I like your videos very much and I ask you if the model bg 3500 is the same components and the service is in the same way ?
when ever I have attempted reel servicing there is always a spring that pops out and gets lost or wont go back in.
I watched your original aquashield video, maybe a new video after a summer of fishing?
cka1799 id like to know the answer to this question as well.
