WALKING FOR THE FIRST TIME after Achilles rupture surgery
Learning to walk the same time as Mauro! 😉 Glad to see the healing is happening faster than expected. 👍
Haha! Thanks mate 👍
Great video thank you

4 weeks post achilles surgery myself (ruptured my left achilles under tension in a scrum playing rugby) and seeing these videos is great, definitely makes me feel that there will be light at the end of the tunnel!
Glad you got through the boot phase without re-injury. It's onwards and upwards from here!
Appreciate it mate. Feeling good 🙌
Is the boot-phase a re-injury possibility, are you talking about another surgery if re-injured in the boot-phase? So all costs are doubled?
As an aspiring sports physiotherapist I’m really enjoying this series! You’re doing so well mate, congrats👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Ah glad to hear it mate & I appreciate the kind words
I feel for you! I tore my ACL, MCL, & meniscus while skiing. I'm a very active person so not being able to work out was rough!! Had to relearn to walk again & it was insane. The best thing the doctor said after my surgery was you can start working out again in a month.
My best mate tore his MCL while playing rugby… It doesn’t help that I was right next to him 😅
Hope you get back up on your ski's soon, it's the best recreation sport on the planet. I plan to ski another 30 years maybe even to the age of 70. my pop-pop does. You must have had a "yard-sale" accident.
Feel better soon Matt 🖤🖤🖤 sending a mad amount of love and prayers brother🙏🔥🔥🔥
Ah thanks mate!
Really inspiring Matt. I watched your video start from you got rupture.
I have same case with you.
Now 4 weeks post surgery, i have ready for recovery and physiotherapy.
Thanks.
I love that you drop in all the time that you have some insane of genetics. I hope it helps people that want to look like you but don’t realize that sometimes those are just the cards we’re dealt and we have to work with what nature gave us.
Just starting to walk in shoes 10 weeks after debridement and FHL transfer surgery and I'm experiencing the same thing with not really 100% trusting the ankle and wanting to keep my knee straight! This video is so helpful - thank you!
I'm at week 10 after my achilles tendon rupture although non-surgical route. Cannot tell you how helpful this has been. I've had to spend more time in the boot and its weird how you go from hating something that is helping you to actually quite daunted by the idea of walking without it. Seeing this video right before I should be able to ditch the boot has been perfect!
How have you healed?
@@Always_Never Hey I have healed but its far from perfect. Much weaker than my stronger leg, the calf muscle on the previously injured leg has got some size and strength back. Have you done this injury?
@yoiamgucci2743 I have just started (only on week 1...which blows...as it's such a lengthy rehab) I'm glad you are mostly healed, but I would have imagined you would be at 100 percent, with so much time that has passed. Is your walk normal? I was just wondering as I've also chosen the non surgery route as well. I have heard building up that calf muscle and strength can linger (especially if doctors kept you off of it for an extended period of time) but I understand doctors caution as well.
@@Always_Never Ah I am really sorry you've had this happen, it just doesn't feel fair. Its a rough injury, the recovery is long and dark but it does get better. The body is amazing at repairing itself. Try not to beat yourself up about anything and look after yourself. I walk completely normally, no limp, no irregular pattern. When the boot comes off it is surreal, it is like learning to walk again as your 'healing leg' will have little to no power in your calf so walking heel to toe again is odd but just keep doing it when that time comes. I believe you can do leg raises while in the boot but probably not this early - I am sure your doctor has advised you on what you can and can't do. I will be back in the gym in a few weeks time after taking a break and will be focusing on my leg. I was getting frustrated doing low weight exercises isolating the calf with no results but likely I was impatient. I found just walking and focusing on the technique built up my calf more than gym exercises. I'd say for the next few months just try to look after yourself mentally because its a grim time but it does and will get better. When it does and you're walking around normally you'll be so happy to have the simple pleasures back of just going for a walk. Wishing you the best for your recovery! You will get back to normal, you will.
Congratulations! I think being an athlete improves recovery faster. Good job keeping your muscle mass including legs. I am hoping to get same news from my specialist next week.
Just had my Achilles repair. Thanks for the updates and hope to back to gym and running in 6 months.
So interesting to see that we are nearly at the same stage of the achilles recovery. I've been able to walk without my boot since last tuesday. Feels so good to walk in normal shoes but it's still a long way to go back to fully normal.
Ah that's awesome mate, hope the rehab continues to go well for you 👍
Loved watching this! So interesting the info about 10mm, I'll be asking my consultants this tomorrow! Thanks for sharing! Felt way more empowered to challenge my 'prescribed' course of treatment and within 3 weeks of being out of that boot I've managed to start assisted single leg calf raises!! Wish you the speediest recovery!!
Ah that's awesome mate, sounds like you're smashing it!
Cheers for the inspiration mate I’ve got surgery booked Wednesday… finding it all hugely frustrating but, this video gave me some hope and energy in what’s to come
It’s been great seeing your recovery journey mate, I’ve got nothing but respect with how you managed everything 👍
Appreciate it dude 😊
Me2 going through it and your video of recovery is very encouraging. You are a great muscles mam like Silvestre Stallone and Arnold S. You are a great hero
This the kind of content I needed! Had surgery 2 weeks ago. (Full rupture playing 5-a-side football) Just starting out in the vaco boot. My injured leg has basically lost 100% of its muscle I worked to build for however long… Great to see aggressive rehab within sensible boundaries. Good work
Did you get the speed bridge surgery? I had surgery almost weeks ago and am walking in boot without crutches. Speed bridge is something else, I was at awe when doctor told me to put weight bearing and start walking without crutches at barely 2 weeks in…
No mine was regular open surgery. I did just over 7 weeks in the boot. First 2 were non weight bearing then built up to no crutches at week 4. Having regular physio now and back driving this week. Feel like I’m healing well but got a long way to go.
@@mickybav3616 happy to hear that your healing journey is going well. I am just finishing up week 4 post surgery and am working on walking without a boot. Wish you a speedy recovery!
Also, I want to know if you are still experiencing numbness/tingling/nerve problems?
Very glad that you are progressing. Taking your time is key to not re-injure or have a set back. Your content is great.
Loved watching this video! I tore my ACL and the feeling ur describing when u first walk again is so relatable😂 It seems like such a small thing but is actually the biggest deal and makes u feel amazing. Keep up the work and celebrating the small victories throughout recovery 👍 helps a lot mentally
Glad you enjoyed it mate & hope your injury is all healed up now 👍
Congratulations on your extremely quick recovery!!
Thank youuuuu

Hey thanks for this video, it is so helpfull 🙏🏼 spezial because jarad talking about some details…thanks for that
Been google searching Achilles rupture progress. Now at 6 weeks post injury, letting nature take its course with the boot and 6 wedges so suddenly full of optimism about visiting the consultant next week.
I ruptured mine 10 months ago. No surgery with a 5cm gap. It is not a good injury to have. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Ah mate, this is awesome! Great progress! I can't believe you will be squatting and deadlifting soon. The human body is so amazing when you let it do its thing. Congrats! This is such a wonderful update.
Is nuts right?! So excited for it 🙌
@@MattDoesFitness Will you play football again
Good luck I just now have 6 week recover my archilles rupture I learned to many things thanks Zoltan
Hi Matt. Wish all the best from everyone down under!
I love Australia
Heck yeah your doctor wearing a mavs shirt! Wishing you all the best with your recovery
Matt wishing you all the best brother
When you said you caught your foot on the pram, I did the same on the bottom of a baby gate. Absolutely pooed my pants!
Almost 2 Weeks Post Surgery here. Thank you for giving me hope with your videos!
How is it coming along?, just ruptured my tendon 2 nights ago on sunday eve playing basketball, i have a mri/xray this friday. My right foot gave out like i was hit on the heel with a steel toe and my foot dropped like im standing on downhill with that foot.
How was your post recovery stories, weekly?
I hope youre way better each day!
I tore my achilles pretty bad while serving in the military...the doctor told me I would have a 1-2 inch incision....after the surgery I had an 8 inch incision scar and the doctor told me I had ruptured it in 2 places and they put a scope around my tendon. I suspect a little foul play seeing as he had my MRI before the surgery(military health care..am I right?). This is back in September 2012...10 years later I still cannot do a single leg calf raise on that side. I run every morning, mountain bike bi-weekly, and lift about 4-5 times per weak and still no progress. I feel like Johnny Bravo...big torso and small as hell legs. I hope you can make a full recovery....and I also appreciate your collaborative content with MPMD. You have my respect and subscription.
Get expert opinions and get that sucker fixed. I've heard of atrophy on the injury leg down to the calf muscle, but that should subside 2-years post-op in extreme cases
Great to see you back on your feet mate. Let's f**King go!! 💪
Glad i found this video. Currently at 4 weeks post and cant wait to see what it will be like when i start walking again.
Well done! You must be so happy that the boot is finally off and you can finally walk. You have come such a long way from where you started with this channel. I Love you Matt and I have been subbed for 2 years now and this is one of the best UA-camrs I have ever subbed to. Love you Matt❤❤❤
Thanks Maddie, appreciate the support 🙌
Good luck SIr Matt...greeting and good wishes from Croatia
That casual “I’ve just had a stroke” at 13:04 killed me 😂😂
Happy your on the mend pal. To see how happy you was when you came out that door and not long for deadlifting now :)
Matt, just started using your app and absolutely love it. Can't wait to finish the program I started!
Ill let you know how the progress goes.

Thanks dude & you're welcome
Good Luck on your recovery Matt. Greetings from Peterborough 👋
Thanks Wendy!
I’m seeing the same physio today for my first appointment for my Achilles‘ tendon rehab! Glad to see he’s getting good results for you.
Ha! That’s nuts! Good luck mate 🙌
Amazing to see you back on your feet! Best hopes for a swift and complication-less recovery
Thank youuuu
Good morning, Docter.. I had a fall, which led to a complete rupture of the Achilles tendon in my leg. I underwent an operation to connect the tendon from the ankle with support for the tendon...My leg is currently in a cast for a month. After that, I have to undergo physical therapy because my leg has become shorter than the other by about 1 cm. I hope you can provide me with some treatments and exercises so that my legs become as normal as they were.I believe in you very much and I hope for your help. With my deepest gratitude and appreciation for you...What is required is exercises after the Achilles tendon connection and grafting operation... with my sincere thanks and gratitude to you
This is right across from the Hospital I work. Anytime Fitness!
what a difference this guy is from my PT. answers all the questions i have. i realize now mine is a joke
Hey Matt, Im about 2 months above my real schedule about my achilles injury (non surgical) and im finally on a stage where i can start jogging (not max runs but pretty fast runs too) at an incline and also try triple jumps (but 5). My physio said that he is impressed because i started off really really stiff. So i reccommend that you dont ever skip rehab. I believe in you, keep fighting
That’s awesome mate, top work 👊
How’s the Achilles now, do you regret no going the surgical way ? I chose the non operating way to just want to get your opinion
nice one Matt! A speedy recovery was never in doubt!!!

Sounds like an Aussie physio - you're in great hands then! Congrats on the progress so far, you're doing so well!

WOO! Thanks mate 😊
Good to see you smashing this mate. 💪🏻 I was fairly accepting of the physical side but you don't half go through the ringer mentally. Pizza definitely helps!
Haha! Yea, pizza is critical for rehab tbh
Congrats on your progress. On a different subject how's your new house coming along.
Hey Matt yesterday I got in a four wheeler accident and I completely broke my femur in half so I know what ur going through so prayers to you bro 🙏.
Ah that’s horrendous mate, really sorry to here that & fingers crossed for a quick recovery 🙏
A Lot of respect for you dude.

Absolutely
I tore that same tendon and had operation on January. I can’t believe u can walk this early…
Only 5 weeks ago i was able to walk normally without the boot..
Im 18 years old and a professional athlete.
However my rupture was operated a whole month after rupture plus I was training while it was ruptured. You can seriously consider urself lucky mate. Wish u all the best 🤝
Sorry to hear that dude but fingers crossed the rest of the recovery goes well for you 🙌
Mega news mate! Keep pushing!
Another great video
Top 5 UA-camr!!!🤧🤧🤧
What workouts did you do during first day boot on and last day before boot off? I am on week 1… you inspire me
I'm. Now at the same stage today I was told by the NHS I will have physio, no information this is going to help thanks for sharing
When you're back to training, you should do a video with Ross Edgley talking about rebuilding his legs post swim and what he recommends.
Incoming 👊
Awesome to see you on the mend Matt! 505kg deadlift incoming
Need to do a transformation series using your app.
Back in action Matt 🔥💪🏿
Its good to see your getting better
I bet you can't stop thinking about a intense leg day respect 👏 👌
Buzzing for it mate! (although the DOMS is gonna be horrendous)

I snapped my tibia and dislocated my knee about 2 years ago in an accident. Walking without crouches and a boot was the best feeling.
I ruptured my Achilles at the Hyrox event in London.. I am a gym freak so this is a huge set back for me! Seen your vid and your physio - can you give details please?
So happy for you Matt 👍👏 yesss.. mate burn the boot 😂 get it gone YAY !! Bless your face when you got told 2 weeks to train. That's a relief Matt "what a hero" legend. Thanks for another brillant video as always, and sharing your journey. Pleased everything is on the up now 🔥👍 take care mate much love 😊
Haha! WOOOOO!

Great news that you can now walk boot free and start exercising again. 🤞for the continued speedy recovery

Nice legs Matt! 😉
Blessings for a full recovery.

Hi Matt happy to see you are getting better and the pizza in the vlog looked delicious : )
Glad to see you back without the boot! Only positive vibes now! I tore my bicep tendon from just clapping my hands, Very unlucky.
Ah that sucks mate, hope it's all good now 👍
I remember when I had to have an operation on my knee. It was the weirdest thing having to relearn how to walk normally
Hey, Matt, when are you going to do Morsia Gym in Highbury?
