I've had a deposit on this Type R since 2021 in Canada and still haven't been able to get one. The Honda dealer recently told me that there is extremely limited quantities in Canada. Only 95 units will be allocated here in 2023. Pretty sad as they could easily sell much much more than that immediately. Not sure if it's because of shortages on parts or the fact that they want it to be a very rare and exclusive car. Also, why is no one talking about the new parking sensors on Canadian models? And has blind spot indicators along with all of the other safety tech. I realize it's a Type R but these make it an even better daily driver.
@@noface1783 Nope. The dealer got 1 and gave everyone else their money back. They said they have no idea when more could come so no one else can get a car. Several months later I saw another one pulling off of the delivery truck. I’m sure that one was already sold before it arrived. I’ve only seen two on the roads in Vancouver Canada. They are extremely rare. Now I’m also beginning to look at the Integra Type S. it seems like basically the same package. But also rare at the moment.
that driving style is an actual thing, it's not just 'over driving'. It's most common/easiest on go karts as it does give you more grip around corners, you are wearing out the tyres more tho. What happens is you are digging the edges of the tyre into the road more when you turn, due to the linkages the wheel gains additional angle of camber. Doesn't work as well in our drive by wire steering modern cars, but in older cars (and F1) it really works.
I'm so over dealerships, and especially Honda at this point. Wife and I owned an S2000 for 12 years and now have a Focus RS. We contact the Honda dealer wanting to test drive the Civic Si and they book us for a time slot a week later. We show up and they immediately pull some crap about having to sign on the dotted line before we get a test drive. We objected asking why and were told "because this is such a special car". We laughed explaining to them what was parked outside and how we've been test driving cars double the money (or more) with no issues from higher end brands. They were insistent and we walked away without even sitting in the stupid thing. All of this is after my dad had gone to the dealer when the Civic Type R was new to the US trying to test drive one and they told him the same malarky even though he had a more expensive vehicle than the CTR. So obviously a recurring theme. I'm not even close to young and I don't have an issue with affording these machines. I could understand Ferrari or McLaren asking some very pointed questions about my finances before I got a test drive, but a $30k or $45k Honda? Give me a break. Bubba up yonder has a meth, tobacco, and energy drink habit and rolls home in a $75k truck but Lord help us if we let a responsible middle aged couple drive a frickin Civic.
The Topher has a great video driving the BRZ, CTR and GR Corolla and also mentions the Miata and how they all compare and what they’re best for and not as great in. It’s a win win though, great choices all around

I've got my 2025 Championship White allocation in Ottawa! I've a modded 02 ep3 to CTR+ level (k24a2 and JRSC) and looking forward to having both in my garage to enjoy and admire.
Both of their 2023 and 2024 allocations were already spoken for. In Canada, dealers are getting a very limited quantity, some saying only 1 unit per model year.
Are dealeRs giving a build # or other info to confirm? I paid a deposit, but my dealerR didn't know what model year they would Receive their allocation. Could be 2024 or 2025. I assume too small of sales volume to get on initial 2023 release.
Mine is a sales contract and the sales manager confirmed my allocation with Honda Canada. Since my dealership knew for a fact that they were getting an allocation for each model year from Honda Canada, they were able to request/confirm mine as being Champion White. Obviously, I won't know the build number or serial info for sometime yet.
I don't like the back, but the front is real nice. Tough call between this and GR Corolla, I don't care about the current Golf or the N. GR Yaris still sits at the top for desirable current hot hatchos.
Hi guys. I've heard a lot of people mention that the cabin noise in the FL5 is quite noticeable. What are your thoughts on this issue? Do you have any insights or comments on it? Thanks in advance. You are the best!
Why would an adult be embarrassed in any car? I never understood this notion. As an owner of multiple vehicles I always have found this odd. People definitely treat me differently in my 25 year old winter beater Toyota vs my brand new vehicle. I actually prefer driving old beat up cars and find it hilarious when people make comments like "buy a new car white trash" while I have multiple vehicles and a large bank account, haha. Women in their huge junk SUV's mostly.
With mark-ups this car will be close to 80k out the door, so you could buy a m550, mustang Gt500, Camaro ZL1, and many other cars that would wipe the floor with this ricer boy K car.
Around August of 2022, I talked to a local dealer who does not sell outside the local market and who sticks to MSRP about putting a deposit down on one of these. They said "we're only getting one in 2023, and it's already sold... to our owner." My GR Corolla is scheduled to be delivered in March/April.
BTW, I had a chance to pick up a 2019 Type R with only 4k on it (from the Toyota dealer, funny enough). They were asking $41k. I drove it and it rocked. But, sorry Yuri, IT WAS JUST TOO DANG UGLY.

And has blind spot indicators along with all of the other safety tech. I realize it's a Type R but these make it an even better daily driver.
ive just put in a deposit for a 2024 model, have you gotten the car yet?
@@noface1783 Nope. The dealer got 1 and gave everyone else their money back. They said they have no idea when more could come so no one else can get a car. Several months later I saw another one pulling off of the delivery truck. I’m sure that one was already sold before it arrived.
I’ve only seen two on the roads in Vancouver Canada. They are extremely rare. Now I’m also beginning to look at the Integra Type S. it seems like basically the same package. But also rare at the moment.
Looks way better.
I like this more subdue body style over the previous. I agree with a spoiler delete as well.
Happy to see ur review❤️
that driving style is an actual thing, it's not just 'over driving'.
Another great vid as usual boys! Red carpets look great for NOW but those bad boys are gonna show the dirt!
Not if you take car of them .
It's hard to care about the Type R, as cool as it is... No way I'm going to be able to get one unless I pay tens of thousands over sticker.
It’s such a hard choice for me. Should I get this as a weekend fun car or a GR86, or a Miata? Even a Z4 might be it as a lease.
The Topher has a great video driving the BRZ, CTR and GR Corolla and also mentions the Miata and how they all compare and what they’re best for and not as great in. It’s a win win though, great choices all around
@@JimmyDShea I think I seen that one. I am now leaning more toward the Acura Type S and also if I start making more maybe the Audi RS3. 😂 I can’t make up my mind on a car.
This car finally looks good again
The audio is glitchy and unwatchable on my tv at the point when you splice in the footage of turning off traction control. I hear Yuri's voice giving the instructions but the video keeps playing, completely desyncing the audio. I don't have the same issue on my phone, although the splice there shows only a short clip and then goes back to the review. FYI
Awesome review guys. Daily driver of the year just about sums it up. FL5 over GR Corolla and Elantra N...all day.
For over $10k less, the Elantra N is a hell of a value. The R is better. But I can think of a lot of things to do with $10K
@@tobysurmann1936 Hyundai isn't in the same category, no reliability. For pricing gr is better than the fl5 but looks, fl5 looks beautiful
With more then 20k canadian difference in final price taxes and all. The Elantra N is realy hard to not recommande, i have one and its a realy great car. If the money is not a probleme yeah the Type R would have ne the one but whit taxes an all the Type R is probably more in the 70k canadian the Elantra N is 50k so.. the GR is fu... nice to. Juste a wonderfull time to be a car enthousiast!
@@AsuraTraitorr - as someone who has worked in the auto industry with manufacturers for over 25 years, and as a life long enthusiast, I can tell you your assessment of what Hyundai builds couldn’t be more wrong.
The product Hyundai builds today is at least as good as what Japan builds.
But sometimes it takes a bit for opinions to catch up to reality.
@@tobysurmann1936 I'm not saying they're not reliable to today's standards. They're good vehicles, but to put them in the same category as Honda and Toyota who has the reputation already, is wrong to Honda and Toyota.
Checked all the dealerships around me, all of them are asking for $10k markup plus those stupid dealership accessories package smh. And the GR Corolla also has a $10k markup, but even you are willing to pay, there’s still a wait list for the GR.
The aftermarket body kit for this would be sick
Getting mine in October in Red, so excited!
Big improvement in the looks department over previous model, but for that money I’d rather sit in the GR Corolla Circuit Edition which happens that my name is on the waiting list for 😄
The Elantra N axle tramp doesn’t mean the LSD isn’t working, it’s just got soft engine bushes. You can fix it with a lower torque mount bush for £30
This is a sweet car but I think the dealers might ruin it. I can’t imagine sales will be great when most dealers are asking $60k for them.
yes it is😃
Finally a Type R that doesn’t look like a ricer kid designed it. Brings back memories of the legendary FD2 R😍
👏👏👏GREAT JOB GUYS ..... YURI ITS BEEN WEEKS 😱😱 GETTING THE SHAKES FROM Lack OF OLD SCHOOL GAMES ON YOUR CHANNEL😱.....HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY EVERYONE ✌️
I really dig the newer toned down look
The duo is back!
I've got my 2025 Championship White allocation in Ottawa! I've a modded 02 ep3 to CTR+ level (k24a2 and JRSC) and looking forward to having both in my garage to enjoy and admire.
Why 2025?
I’m getting a 2030 soon. 😂
The clean design should allow for some nice body kits
The FL5 Type R has the lofty looks. Such a beauty!
I just realized you guys uploaded the new Type R video review at the same time as Doug uploading his one about the new Type R.
there's usually an embargo from the manufacturer... they tell them when they can upload hence why a half dozen vids popped up at 9am est..
Another informative video enjoying all the way from South Africa
How come a 3 cylinder GR Corolla somehow sounds better than this 4 cylinder Type R? 🤔🤷🏻♂️
Firing order and pattern
3-cylinders have a different sound profile than a 4-cylinder. In general 3 sounds better than 4
Hi guys. I've heard a lot of people mention that the cabin noise in the FL5 is quite noticeable. What are your thoughts on this issue? Do you have any insights or comments on it? Thanks in advance. You are the best!
W for the 30 fps format. great video
Edit: apparently it's 24 fps, because 30 is trash 😂
Can we get a bloopers episode with funny clips from multiple vehicles? Or like a behind the scenes??
Is it just me or is the audio off from 2:37... Correction, only when I'm viewing it on my TV not my mobile device 🤷🏻♂️
I just love this car
Can’t wait to have one
I really prefer the look of the last gen, this one looks like a regular Civic with a bolted on wing.
Last gen one looked like a RICER BoyRacers wet dream. This one is elegant and functional. With real vents.
Other than the wing, I absolutely love the way this thing looks
Wow a type R an adult wouldn't be embarrassed in. Honda you have my attention.
Did you guys drive through Brampton yesterday afternoon? I feel like I saw this car but wasn't sure what it was until I saw the videos late night!
The embargo has dropped! 👍🔥
My local dealer quoted me $65,000 today. I told them I’m not paying their mark up prices. I’ll wait.
Tsp.TrueCar.com
With mark-ups this car will be close to 80k out the door, so you could buy a m550, mustang Gt500, Camaro ZL1, and many other cars that would wipe the floor with this ricer boy K car.
15:37 - No gloss black... No, gloss, black. Thank you Honda.
Ah man, I already watched Doug's Type R video first. He beat you by a few minutes lol.
Edit: I like your review better 😘
Why the Audio is not sync when on TV but Okay on Mobile
They’ve made it slower and more “mature”. Not sure about that 🧐
I wonder if the carbon spoiler might improve performance.
#bringbacktheboxtest
Around August of 2022, I talked to a local dealer who does not sell outside the local market and who sticks to MSRP about putting a deposit down on one of these. They said "we're only getting one in 2023, and it's already sold... to our owner."
My GR Corolla is scheduled to be delivered in March/April.
BTW, I had a chance to pick up a 2019 Type R with only 4k on it (from the Toyota dealer, funny enough). They were asking $41k. I drove it and it rocked. But, sorry Yuri, IT WAS JUST TOO DANG UGLY.
