In this video, I expose the sea of fake drifting videos in the BeamNG UA-cam Shorts Community. Have you ever seen an INSANE drift on the shorts tab? It's probably fake. Here's how to spot them as well as how to make them.

edit: i looked a little and found simulator adventures, but i also discovered how awful the rest are (half of the search results for beamng are brain rot shorts that somehow involve skibbidi toilet, mr beast, and always some form of discrimination/overly political content

@@Ryneix yeah they'd have to be uploading one like.. once a month or something for it to be believeable due to the amount of time and retakes you'd have to perform to achieve that.

@@idiotic370it's still too frequent. May be once every 3 months because it needs thousands of attempts (the drift distance from the cones are too pixel perfect)
@@tamearahargrove8959 SFM animations and trying to drift in BeamNG are different.
I knew it, as soon as I saw one of the drift clips, I immediately could tell it was done using that BeamNG replay feature and after that person had recorded the drift clips, they had it in slow motion to be able to place the cones around the area they were drifting. but asside from all that, the final product of the drift videos are really cool.

You can actually search through the replay by frames, meaning you place a cone, skip a few frames and place another one
i actually don't get why someone would be annoyed by these videos lol. they appear for me in tiktok all the time and i've never seen any of them claiming to be professionals/legit or anything like that

Man I used to do this over a decade ago in LFS and it's weirdly nostalgic to see it make a return. It's just that I never imagined there would be another game with an easy possibility to do it. But BeamNG never fails to surprise 😁

My time was after that kind of stuff ended, but I love hearing about it. Started collecting those kinds of discs for PS1 recently.
i still play LFS, game is so easy to run nowadays, its awesome.
as someone who regularly plays beam with a wheel and spends hours racing and drifting i always figured most of these were fake. anyone whos played beam should know how hard it actually is to be able to control a car in game. your talking hours of testing and tuning not to mention all the practice and skill actually needed to effectively make the car perform. great video!

You almost gotta respect the dedication to placing all those cones on the outline of the car's track. Some of the ones I've seen look like they took a while to set up.
I always assumed the guy recorded just garbage inputs and placed the cones around the path that he ended up with. those cones are always in some nonsense pattern that nobody would ever place naturally
It was something so obvious that I feel really bad for those who needed a video explaining why this was fake.
Thank you for the complete transparency and tutorial. I probably won’t use it but it’s so nice to learn how they do this stuff. I don’t know a whole loft of technical aspects of beamng yet
You can use the spline object tool to place a series of the same object along a decal to place them. Much quicker, and more uniform.
Always good to see these videos being called out though. I actually quite like them for what they are, a bit of fun, but not for what they're not!

i never usually know why they are fake, thank u for thoroughly explaining the small details in the shorts. i honestly cringe when i watch those kind of videos
Great that you brought this up, since yt shorts is very bad with it's recommendation and the type of content that exist there.
Its especially obvious when it comes to beamng that most "content creators" basically just boot up the game, record some clickbait or scammy shit for 5 hours and then milk the hell out of every clip to make 50 repetitive shorts.
I personally like the concept of shorts because when it actually works (which is very rarely) by showing me intresting, comidic or entertaining content that i find valueble to watch its actually pretty good.
But (and this is a big butt) the problem is that its so flooded with absolute disspickeble, brainrot and generally degenrate content (ie altright propaganda, blatant missinformation, scams, excessive violence, clickbait etc..) that its genuinely not worth the hours of scrolling through dogshit just to find a small little nugget of gold.
I have been recommended to make shorts by other people to help grow my channel, but these are the types of videos I have to compete with and it doesn't really overall help with long form videos.

You can typically tell if one is randomly throwing a car around or legit sliding it and the afterwards placed cones just make it must more obvious.
Same thing exist in LFS where if you add objects in replay that doesnt touch the car it doesnt alter the replay therefore the replay keeps going on(if the objects touch the car replay gives an error so you have to close and open replay again). I feel like these videos are okay unless they are Super unrealistic like the ones you shot.
Give this man an oscar for opening the secret of these "drift" videos.

I think I know what these people do: If you don't know what a macro is, it is a file used to perform a specific set of keystrokes in a specific order. I work with them all the time for videos, and what I think these people do is they record a macro while they are drifting and macro-buff the cones to the point where they are just barely not touching. Hopefully that makes sense

Know your just a beam NG creator (Adore the game hence my view) hadn't seen this short scam yet, However every 2 days i'm marking channels not to be recommended for their insane clickbait short farms.
I only geeked around on the game and added mods some years back, just want to say i absolutely adore this and the few other channels i've bumped into doing content on the game and teaching people new things, it was educational as well as informative and entertaining! Great to see someone with 6k suvs outright make content out clickbait and pull near 1 million views lmao. I wish more people would make short fact checker content.

You record a car spinning and drifting, then press F11 and using the World Editor you carefully place the cones from your asset browser in the path of the car, the cones can be seen but are transparent to the car.
I always knew it was fake and was used with some replay feature
Why? Because i have used LFS before and i could screw up with the scenario even inside replay, But i used to ramp the cars and break the replay feature lol
I figured it could be done in BEAMNG but now that you've showed it, it really works exactly the way i thought it would work
I was always baffled by the people who actually thought it was real
I used to upload videos of myself drifting on my wheel setup with no E brake but after the saturation of fake videos out there mine were no longer cool enough.
even with an innocence cam, what's to say they can't just record a macro of their game input then basically play it back identically after putting down the cones around where they mindlessly threw the car?

Very good video, especially kids need to have knowledge of what they are watching and realize that most of the stuff they watch is fake. I just want to mention that you literally have a big button at the top of the editor view that makes objects rotate.
Now I know you have never touched a 3D software, because that is a standard spot to. Unreal, Cinema, Blender, Unity and probably many others have that in that exact same spot.

To anyone that likes beamng stunts/impressive videos, but can’t find anything good in the sea of brain rot fake videos, NeverMindMe does a lot of vids like that and are actually real. He used to mostly just do vids of his own stunts, but now he post a lot of compilations of legit stunts people have sent in.

I always thought they record the path and movement then put stuff there cause it feels way too random and camera movements never makes sense
if they wanted to disprove this, they should be willing to redo there videos live. but i seriously doubt very many of them would be willing to do that. so if you see any crazy videos like that, i would say, hey recreate this live, so we will know if it's legit or not. and of course make sure they show there control inputs. much harder to get a fake a video that way. mad props to you, for exposing this.

I was always very nervous about these "cone drifting" videos that 99% of them are fake. And yep, here we go.

the first time I ran into these videos I knew they where fake and just thought it would be fun to recreate one so I did in a few minutes. honestly sad how many people think they are real considering I doubt any of the people that fake them could actually drift around one corner.
I actually immediately knew these were fake but i thought it was creative that they had thought of doing that in BMG, i never thought about the malicious view manipulative aspect of the videos.

All they do is drift a car around with a keylog and put the cones in around where the car went, then run back the keystrokes. Or they add the cones in post
My guess was that they drifted, but went into the world editor on the replay and built cones around their drifts

It's funny, the moment I saw one of these videos I was like "nice job, you figured out replay mode and the world editor".
They are not at all believable, with how close they come to the cones they would be touching the hitbox and knocking a bunch over.
when i watched it the first time I was really amazed of these drifting but looking at it a little longer made me confused on how accurate his drifts are and his turns are which I got a little sused out of and realized that he recorded it in 3d then add the cones

Finaly someone makes video about fake cone's drifts, i know it at the begging since in Live For Speed you could make a drift replay, and when you play replay, you can just put cones or objects.
Novadays people loves everythings fakes, and many people dont recognise that fakes videos and they putting likes and money in to them.

Brain rot is such a good way to describe shorts and insta reels. After more than like 2 minutes scrolling I just feel drained and almost uncomfortable and like I’ve wasted so much time.

I actually never saw one of these videos until a few days ago and knew it was fake. The funny part was the guy who made it actually liked the comment saying how he did it. So he's not really trying to hide the fact it's fake
bruh... when i first saw one of these videos i thought, someone must've used some sort of "brush" tool to put these cones, cuz its impossible to avoid them all
the purpose is that ppl put their own audio over those clips because they have nothing to show but youtube is a place for videos

Thought it was fake, never knew how though, honestly thought it was an animation in blender or something and never an actual gameplay but that works too.
The dead giveaway for me is the random and sloppy track layout combined with how perfectly the cones are spaced.
No one would make a track like that.

As a long time BeamNG fan, seeing it used for mainly content like this is kinda sad. I remember watching WhyBeAre for years playing it and now that it's actually popular, he's gone and it's just a ton of fake monotonous sludge content instead of actual interesting videos that make use of the high end features this game really exists for

Driving Zone Germany has a feature to build cones around your motions in replay mode, it literally does it automatically too
