It's increasingly common for small developers to look at piracy differently: There are two kinds of pirates. The ones who do it for spite - they aren't going to buy your game no matter what, so it's not worth spending your resources caring about them; and the ones who do it because they *can't* buy your game - generally because it's just too expensive relative to their personal economics. This second group, you can address by keeping them on board and giving them a gentle nudge, all the while looking at where your game is being pirated, and adjusting your country-level pricing until the problem clears up. Sure, this might mean you're selling a US$30 game for the equivalent of US$1 in (for example) Argentina, but so long as other markets are covering your costs, who cares? Now you're one of the only games people there can afford, and you'll carve out disproportionately sized chunk of the local market.
Well we can also say that some people would like to try the game before buying it. I honestly have pirated Beamng for years and then when i bought a powerful PC i immediately bought it. I now have almost 2000 hours on steam and around 700 mods
@@turbo_marc Well the thing about paid mods is very controversial: they have always been free and the reason is that even if some put great effort some might be a scam (and infact there are lot of scammy paid mods). Then another example would be having a free limited version of the mod and a paid one with more features. Another example would be making the mod free after some specific time so that for people that wants it immediately they have to pay (and so supporting the mod creator) and those who can wait will still have them free after some time. iirc the automated testing track is what's used by the game to automatically generate the statistics for configs that you see for every vanilla vehicle. you run a bat file (i believe) inside the game files after adding in the vehicle name and it generates 0-60, 0-100, offroad scores and all that. cool video!

I understand why Bluebird sent a letter asking the devs to remove the bus mod; some copyright laws essentially say that if you don't defend your copyright, you risk losing it. They weren't seeking monetary damages or anything, they just sent a letter asking the devs to remove the mod, and everybody went on their merry way. Also, car companies don't want images of their cars being smashed into a million pieces out there (which is why you won't see licensed cars in the game, or crash damage in almost any game with licensed cars), and since there have been BeamNG crash videos being passed off as real car crashes on TikTok, they had to do what they could to keep it from happening.

I watched WhyBeAre for years, from when I was probably 9 or 10. Finally became able to buy BeamNG two days ago. So glad to see that you honored him properly here
I found more info on the bus situation. The creator of the mod himself is who posted the news originally on the "Wentward Bus Type C" thread. ----------------- ThreeDTech21 Feb. 9, 2018 "It had the brand name Blue Bird, I think BeamNG was sent a copyright notice front the company, it was taken offline, when I went to rebrand it I needed up doing a full overhaul of much of the jbeam, it took longer because I was super busy this year." --------------- also the Jansport backpacks were removed from the bus props. The Stig was also removed.
I focussed on official happenings as I feel like including the community more would result in an even longer video (probably too long…). Glad you still learned something new though and let’s see, maybe I’ll make a video on the community :)
I think the car you were driving is a Wendover. I got everything from Level 1 and 2 and a lot of things from Level 3 to 5. One of the best videos on UA-cam right now.
ybr was when i first got interested in beam all the way back in 2013. Got a laptop in 2021 alongside beamng. Got a good pc in 2023 and I now have 1,118 hours in it.
Damn all these hours in the game and I just learned through this video. 1. You can exit the cars and 2. You can play the WIP career mode 🤦♂. Honestly there were a few more things from this video I was like whaaaa!!?? It just goes to show the game needs to do a better job explaining these to players. Flood Crater map is a good example. It took me WAY too long, and several trips to YT, to figure out how to actually start the flood.....
theres a .bat file that you can download from the mod documentation that allows you to automatically test vehicle mods on the automated testing map, its mainly used for automatically filling in the performance tab in the vehicle selector
Best 20 bucks I ever spent. BeamNG is something special. Gambler vehicles show just how cool the devs are. Them adding Jake brakes in the last update was a delight

If you want to add to the lore side of BeamNG, there's a rock stack on the Utah map near the tourism center. It could be a memorial for a driver who attempted the jump in the mineshaft and failed
BeamNG is my most played sandbox / racing game / driving sim since first alpha release It's just a pure quality by itself 13:54 Shows just how mature BeamNG devs are
I'm so thankful I found WhyBeAre so early on cause I wouldn't have been able to watch this game grow so closely, even though I didn't have a computer until a couple years ago, beamng was one of the first games I bought.
18:30 how did you get your camera to behave like that? Is it a mod or are there settings in game that I can change to have the camera shake and zoom out like that?
I think adding the ange engine sound system might be a bit too hardware intensive for the game but would be interesting if they had a lite version of it
This is awesome to see, as I've noticed most of these details over the now 11 years of watching/playing BeamNG since finding it through YBR. The ones I haven't seen are any of the monoliths added/removed other than Utah, scary stuff or some of the caves, the antipiracy screen, the connections/naming which I sorta saw sometimes, Jargl although I do know of Charmand because of the mod, the license plate trick, the first mod as I thought that was the HellHopper, the wet mode, the ice easter eggs, and cease and desist. Most of this is because I haven't had so much time to play anymore. I remember using the BeamNG app, lego technic wheel, and a controller with hot glued pedals to make a working beamng steering wheel and pedals before I actually got a real set. I believe the red car was a Wendover.
I‘m glad that you think like that, but I worked on this for about 3 months and I prefer a regular uploading schedule with shorter videos over an irregular schedule with videos of this length.
I knew everything in this video but the license plate detail (that's one of my favourite details now, tbh), the "wet" mode for the Scintilla, and Bluebird getting mad at the devs for a mod :p
first got the game in 2016, one an old laptop it ran like a slideshow, then finally got a slightly better laptop which it kind of ran, and then finally got a gaming pc in november 2018
Just to tack onto the whole dynamic weather thing, Beamng already has dynamic clouds that can be set for cloud cover, speed and fog so making rainy weather is already completely feasible in that sense. There is also multiple sections in the ETK driving centre that include wet asphalt, as well as mud at certain points in multiple maps, so changing the road conditions is also certainly possible. They also have a section of icy terrain in the terrain testing areas of both gridmaps, despite it showing up nowhere else in the game. Seems weird to me.
That's true, the only thing that's probably holding dynamic weather back is performance reasons. Having wet or icy surfaces is one thing; dynamic surfaces that can change in real-time are another. In addition to that, an actually good weather system would require volumetric clouds, which would hurt FPS a lot. Let's wait though :)
one thing imma say now: volumetric clouds soon coming to the game as a mod, well the creator of the mod somewhat has a release but paid until final version of the mod is complete
This was the first game i was anticipating for years pre-release, and i went out of my way to buy it on the day of its release, also i was one of the early modders, nothing serious just dabbling with meshes, textures, and suspension settings. Those were awesome times, it was such an upgrade performance wise after R.O.R.

Time flies..
Wow. Just WOW! Great video, @SkyFall!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I almost cried when you brought up ybr
IT'S FINALLY HERE!! This is gonna be EPIC!!!
My favorite driver reference is "M. Mouton" on the vivace gravel rally. Its a reference to Michelle Mouton who drove the Audi Quattro S1 back in Group B rally!
14:19 whys this so funny yet wholesome at the same time 😂
Wow, that video is a banger! Thank you so much for giving such a detailed look into beamng, Skyfall ❤ I have now accumulated more than 1100 hrs in beamng and it is by far my favourite game! Lets see what the future holds for beamng:)
:)
27:43 dynamic weather would be really nice to have but also would be cool to enable a setting so you can have live weather like if it rains irl it rains in the game to
That would be cool, there's a Gmod mod that does that so it's fully possible too
There's a experimental mod for it
@@CodenameGSDsRealwait really? Never heard of it!
I watched WhyBeAre for years, from when I was probably 9 or 10. Finally became able to buy BeamNG two days ago. So glad to see that you honored him properly here
Aww thank you for sharing your story!
I found more info on the bus situation. The creator of the mod himself is who posted the news originally on the "Wentward Bus Type C" thread.

"It had the brand name Blue Bird, I think BeamNG was sent a copyright notice front the company, it was taken offline, when I went to rebrand it I needed up doing a full overhaul of much of the jbeam, it took longer because I was super busy this year."
---------------
also the Jansport backpacks were removed from the bus props. The Stig was also removed.
I feel like the old crash sound effect should come back, I find it hilarious for no reason
The bus company overreacted in my opinion
YBR was also my introduction to BeamNG when I was probably 10 years old
Who else watched ybr 👇
SAME
29:10 AND NOW FERRARI IS DOING THE SAME SH*T
Yep, I was considering to include a joke related to Ferrari in this video but I didn’t want to jinx it
Welp I guess I did
@@SkyFall4839 😂
people that got beamng cause of whybeare👇🏻
Thanks for referencing YBR. Bro was the GOAT
No doubt!
Skyfall, thank you for a really thorough and intelligent overview. I've used BeamNG for many years, and never knew much of what was in your "iceberg."
Glad you learned something new!
man, i miss WhyBeAre so bad, he's the one who teach me about this game
Thank you for such a good and informative video about our game!💙
Any time!
Great video. I have over 1,000 hours in the game and I learned a couple things. I guess mods themselves are gonna get a separate video lol
I focussed on official happenings as I feel like including the community more would result in an even longer video (probably too long…). Glad you still learned something new though and let’s see, maybe I’ll make a video on the community :)
12:18 why be are just brings back so much memories bro 😔
Oh man, i just love you videos. And you go and make a 30 minute one? Hell yeah. 30 minutes of pure knowlege and joy
Appreciate it! :)
Now i want this pirate background as a wallpaper lol
You can find it in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\BeamNG.drive\ui\modules\mainmenu
@@SkyFall4839 thx
@@MarsPLAYStudio you're welcome
Awesome video. I remember the halloween events. Ive been playing for over a decade now. This video almost made me cry from all the nostalgia.
Glad you enjoyed it 🥹
It’s such a great game for car enthusiasts I remember rigs of rods as well
I think the car you were driving is a Wendover. I got everything from Level 1 and 2 and a lot of things from Level 3 to 5. One of the best videos on UA-cam right now.
Thank you so much!
And yes, it was a Wendover :)
ybr was when i first got interested in beam all the way back in 2013. Got a laptop in 2021 alongside beamng. Got a good pc in 2023 and I now have 1,118 hours in it.
this video was awesome!! i love your videos!!!
Thank you so much!!
funny you mention the brakelights, because I feel like they can still use some work to make them look like they light up gradually like on older cars.
I Think the devs made the monolith as a tribute to the around fifty year old movie 2001: A Space Oddesy
Official documentation definitely lacks some stuff; glad you learned something new!
The brand "FPU" in beamNG must be based on "Argo", as argo makes literally the same ATVs, but in real life
is the mystery car a wendover? (the one with 4wheels steering)?
Btw... a 30 min skyfall video? sign me up!!
correct!
ok but why is the pirated title screen so cool tho
theres a .bat file that you can download from the mod documentation that allows you to automatically test vehicle mods on the automated testing map, its mainly used for automatically filling in the performance tab in the vehicle selector
Best 20 bucks I ever spent. BeamNG is something special. Gambler vehicles show just how cool the devs are. Them adding Jake brakes in the last update was a delight
100% agreed
i was a big rigs if rids fan growing up and when i found out about beam ng i had to play it, im sure i have 1000's of hours in beamng and the devs are unbelievably supportive ill support this game for years to come
Thanks for sharing your story!
Watching this made me realize how much I knew about Beamng.. played it for years and I only didn’t know a few things pretty deep in
You've made a really good work and you've put a lot of effort, congratulations😊😊
Thank you very much!
This is just better then hollywood could ever dream of!!!
Aww thank you so much :D
If you want to add to the lore side of BeamNG, there's a rock stack on the Utah map near the tourism center. It could be a memorial for a driver who attempted the jump in the mineshaft and failed
You're truly one of the most underrated beamng youtubers ever. This was an awesome video/explanation! Please continue to make beamng content💙
Wow, thanks! There’s more to come!
16:15 im happy to see my submission for the iceberg is here! 😀
Thanks again for the submission!
@@SkyFall4839 👌
BeamNG is my most played sandbox / racing game / driving sim since first alpha release
It's just a pure quality by itself
13:54 Shows just how mature BeamNG devs are
so much effort in this video, I really hope this gets more views!
Thanks :)
It‘s a mod -> www.beamng.com/resources/enhanced-chase-camera.29131/
@@SkyFall4839 thanks! :-)
i love beamng drive and this video has really showed me how complex this game actually is. Awesome video! ❤
Appreciate it!
dude i love playing the lightrunner maps! thanks for putting them in the video.
Nice to hear there’s still some people playing that game mode :)
I’m very glad you learned something new & thanks for sharing your story!
And yep, it was the Wendover!
13:54 pirated the game and didnt see that screen btw, must have been a really sneaky copy (I have a licenze now tho)
Theres nothing wrong about long videos when its entertaining, i wish it was longer.
5 score . I did manage to talk to a beamng dev and they are quite cool and chilled. i wish the best for ur future man (;
Congratulations! I can tell the devs are chilled, it's amazing that you got to talk to one!
Thanks, you too man :)
@@SkyFall4839 Ya . I will ask if they know ur yotube (; keep up the good work
@@fah1007 thank you so much :D
first got the game in 2016, one an old laptop it ran like a slideshow, then finally got a slightly better laptop which it kind of ran, and then finally got a gaming pc in november 2018
Fantastic video! I knew a lot of these points but learned about others I never knew about either.
Glad you learned something new!
And on top of that, you can add rain as an effect in world editor. It’s only a matter of time
That's true, the only thing that's probably holding dynamic weather back is performance reasons.
