When you mention that the show was only originally slated for thirteen episodes (up to Edge of Destruction), it makes me wonder if there was an alternative ending considered where the show could've ended at "Brink of Disaster" with the TARDIS and passengers arguing themselves into oblivion.
I think one of the reasons why Marco Polo hurts so much is it's the single biggest gap in the Hartnell era. The next gap of this length or more isn't until the 12 episode run from Tenth Planet 4 to Underwater Menace 1.
I've often pondered ( in certain cases) that listening to fan's eulogies on missing episodes and the accompanying noise associated, might be more interesting than said missing episode 🤔
I agree with your there. I attempted to listen to the audio of MP after listening to this, but it didn't engage me and I got bored by the 2nd episode. I enjoyed listening to these knowledgeable, ightky eccentric and witty chaps talk about it.
I'm sure the final duel between Tegana and Marco would've been done in the film studio so the ceiling would've been considerably higher than ten feet... and Waris could use low angles with a film camera anyway. One of his innovations evident from the tele-snaps, or an example of directorial flair is the mixture of Marco writing his journal, the moving caravan and the map with its moving "route progress line" all superimposed (or as fades).
As I have enjoyed these so much, and the new lives and finally news of new episodes upcoming, I have decided to listen again from the start. This was a great start to an excellent series of podcasts. I would say it would be nice if we had an updated version, but what would you say?! We have had no recoveries, no news (barring the two Iran episodes might still be there!) or the in depth stories from Phil that we have been waiting for for ten years. I really hate that story about the BBC being asked, in very recent history, if they wanted the films back and them saying no as we had them all on DVD! I hate the idea of that being true!!! Gah, people! Great work though chaps and looking forward to new podcast episodes!!
I suspect this must have been brought up before but just in regard to the offer of episodes to return to the BBC in 1999, I suspect 'the first 2 series' could very easily just refer to the caveman story and the first Dalek story, its also much more believable to me that they would have had 11 episodes than 81 as late as 1999, unless we have an exact transcript and know exactly how many prints they were offering?

Ah! Interesting point. I’ve never thought of it like that.
I agree that the visuals are helped by being missing. Things like the mountains at the start can't possibly look as good as they do in our heads.
I'm 50, Marco Polo was part of learning about the Silk Road and the Golden Kahn in China, but it was a long time ago and I had an American education.
I (dimly but) fondly remember the 1938 Gary Cooper movie The Adventures of Marco Polo - from watching it on TV many moons ago.
I’d honestly be a bit annoyed if we don’t get a single episode of Marco Polo recovered hopefully we do get one at one point 🤞🏻
Well at least we have the audio with telesnaps

Haha! That’s extremely possible. Ahhh the romance

@@missingepisodespodcast no, thank YOU!
A splendid and most insightful analysis. Here's to finding this story soon.
Thanks so much 😀
Release that "one day I shall come back" song as a video. It WAS haunting
3:00 This tune does have a bit of a "demonic ice cream man" vibe about it.
One episode in and I'm hooked. Thanks guys!
It gets so much better!
Now I have a sudden urge to take a sip from my gourd

Hi - it’s been confirmed a number of times as seasons 1&2. First mentioned in Wiped publicly, then confirmed on forums and in conversation.
apologies, thanks for the confirmation, absolute bummer though!
@@unanimousowlcouncil7377 no worries!
Very good, though you didn't mention the two episodes in Iran!
I'm not worried about the two episodes in Iran.
Where did you get this music?
It’s had a few releases. Google will help - the title is in the show notes.
