I absolutely love this podcast and listen to the eps over and over. I’m wondering why you haven’t as yet asked the King of Missing Episodes Sir Ian Levine to participate in an episode… or is that a loaded gun question.
The end of episodes 1 and 2 really stick in my mind, even after all these years. I can recall them like they were yesterday. What happened yesterday? No clue, and frankly I don’t care, not when I have memories of Power. The conclusion of episode 6 is also a moment I remember with great clarity. Troughton acting as though it wasn’t him that destroyed the Daleks is great… his “did I do that” act was brilliant. It’s a great pay-off that seals him in the role. And as for the Dalek eye stalk raising as the end titles start to roll… I jumped out my chair!
Power was my first telesnap recon I believe, sitting in my 1st year student accommodation back in 2015. So it holds a special place in my heart, even if I'd completely forgotten the plot by the time the animation came back. And even if Evil is better. I remember the leaks for the animation. That was an exciting time, sitting in a hotel room in Berlin watching the UA-cam upload before it got taken down.
Excellent discussion - for me a story I laboured over the details many years ago and has always been a favourite as the Daleks are at the most intelligent and devious for the entire classic period. I am also a great fan of the Tom Baker narrated version which didn't get a mention. (Also Robert James gives a stirling turn in A Night to Remember)
Fantastic listen! Thanks to all the team! Still so weird hearing my name spoken - no one was called Rhys when I were a lad, but now there are a lot of us! 😂 Keep up the great work guys - love it!
Tristram Cary told me that his credit for incidental music (initially voice-over only) was triggered by his complaining to the BBC about the lack of it on screen. He was also none too pleased about the music being used in "The Rescue" and "The Ark": he gave no permission though did get a screen credit for these, but apparently no payment!
Nice to get a namecheck from Robert Mammone at 1:57 (incidentally, was Robert's surname every mentioned in this podcast? I may have missed it, though!) Re: whether "C For Computer" exists in its complete form... the impression I got at the time was that it didn't. What was returned to Steve Roberts at the Beeb were certainly (a VT copy of) *inserts*, complete with countdowns and blank leader, and weren't just excerpts from a longer programme.
Ah the omni rumour! I remember those heady times on Gallifrey Base! The fantasists, true believers and attention seekers gathered in the pinned missing episodes thread cavorted, shouted and bickered with each other in front of an amused audience of varying beliefs. I'd spend hours on the thread, wanting to believe but deeply suspicious. There was one chap called Scott and he knew that all episodes had been returned, including Feast of Steven. He knew due to high placed contents, and vehemently defended his beliefs for several years. Many, many years later he claimed to have never said such things. Happy days.
@sambda Scot talked a load of tosh and was led on by others. But his heart’s in the right place. The podcast strives to stay away from the forum nonsense and concentrated on what key people were saying.
@@missingepisodespodcastI am greatful you stay away from the forum nonsense tbh. You guys deliver a big dose of cold, hard facts with a coating of gentle humour into my ears every so often. Not as often as I'd like, though 😂
Gerry says he asked Spooner to carry out the edits as he, himself, didn’t have the time. However, he gave clear direction about what he wanted… or so I was told. It’s my guess, from the conversations I had with Gerry, that the script was roughly 75% Whitaker, 20% Spooner and 5% Davis, although, of course, such divisions are rarely straightforward.
Fascinating episode as ever. Mention of the Tom Tom footage at 1:52:57 reminded me that the BBC Archive posted an HD transfer of it last year, which improves on earlier versions. ua-cam.com/video/G0n1R0xZhLI/v-deo.htmlsi=X7Su1USiixeXJOon
The only thing I will say against this serial, the colony just feels like one big building, you dont get a sense of there being a city or human civilisation beyond this government building, Id love to see it and be proven wrong, in one of the behind the scenes photos you see plants outside Hensells office for instance, that really made it feel more real
Wake up on miserable monday morning with a hard week looming ahead of me, and then I see this. It doesn't seem so bad now 😂
Well that’s lovely. Hope we lightened the load a tad.
@@missingepisodespodcastYou have indeed. I'm on the settee with my dog and having a nice relax listening to your fascinating deep dive!

@ thanks so much, Brett.
I don’t think Ian has anything interesting to say. When he does, I’d consider asking him.
The story that terrified me the most as a child. The incubation scenes traumatised me and cemented the daleks in my psyche for the rest of my life.

I’ve been very much looking forward to this one!!!! It was the first missing story I read in book form as a kid in the 1990s, loved it!

Fantastic Podcast as usual. 5 stars.
Fascinating as always, incredible research and fabulous to hear from Rob and how it came together for him.
All the best stuff, thank you

Scott Frere. He's still on there. One of the main architects of the omnirumour.
