American here who majored in English history. I think the pub is named after Charles I…get it? The king’s head because he lost his. The picture looks like pictures of him.
Nice pub. I'm proud of you asking to have your pizzas boxed up. First time I've seen you take your leftovers home. I never did understand the hesitancy...after all you paid for it. Enjoy your travels.
That all looks delicious. And it's not like we hate Domino's but now we have really good artisan and chef owned pizza and pasta restaurants that use the best ingredients and just can't be replicated on a large scale. Domino's and lots of the national chains are what you buy many pizzas for a 10 year olds birthday party because it's pretty tasty and everyone will eat it.
49 GBP (which is $56) for two Proseccos, a Diet Coke, two pretty good-sized pizzas and a grazing board actually doesn't feel too bad. I think it would be more than that here. Looked really good.
I love the UK channel! Although I do like when you travel in the US because it's interesting getting your reactions to things, I really love when you take us along on your trips in the UK. The grazing board looked interesting, but what was "pickle"? It looked like grape jelly. In the US, a pickle is what you call a gherkin in the UK. Is pickle what we might call pickle relish? Great video. You two are so naturally funny.
Love the relaunch! I really enjoyed your three new videos here and hope to see more fun and historic places. Would love to see a visit to Jane Austen's house in Chawton, Alton, Hampshire or the Jane Austen Centre in Bath. ❤
Looks like a nice little pub; however, nothing like I experienced when I visited England. I did appreciate some good pub grub. For lunch I always got a Ploughmans lunch and for a good snack we would visit a local Chippy or Buttery.
So fun to watch Lia doing the driving now. When a short time ago, you were just starting to drive again. Well done! Note to self: chicken and barbecue sauce on a crust is NOT anything that a cowboy would eat. (Also, not a real pizza. Hahaha). Glad to see you back together.
Nice little jaunt there, thanks for taking us along! I love your “box it up”, I’m gonna steal that, it’s prilliant! And I didn’t know there was a talent of being a “butter manipulator”, but now I do! 😂 You learn something new every time with J&L … you never know what you’re gonna get, a little entertainment, something educational, or a bit of both, so cheers to you! 🤣🤣🤣
Joel, you put what you said was pickle on some bread. What kind of pickle is that? It looked purple to me. Are they cucumbers with some other type of sauce?
The first Scotch Egg I ever had was in an English Pub in Nashville....go figure...BTW, it was AWESOME!!!...also had authentic Shepherd's Pie and it was VERY comfort food vibes.
Right, somewhat resembles the 1633 portrait by Van Dyck of Charles. The name of the pub seems to be a kind of gruesome joke, seeing as how Charles I famously had his head removed by Parliament in 1649!
Hey, just subbed today. I enjoy your vids and looking forward to future stuff. I will also say it seems Lia is a little more relaxed than on other channel. Maybe driving is therapeutic for you/her.
Could you explain what “pickle” is? It looked like a dark jam. Or were you talking about something else on the board? My family comes from Poland/Slovakia and blood sausage is called kishka, made from pig’s blood and rice. Is it the same thing as black pudding?
Yep, that's what black pudding is -- pork blood sausage. There's also a white "pudding" sausage, made from suet/fat, oatmeal, and some kind of offal meat like liver, but no blood. Both are *foul* IMHO, but maybe if you're raised with it?
i am not being snarky, but it is interesting that americans could easily see that the king's head is all about charles i (who lost his). the sign looks just like him, too. this has THING to do with shakespeare except that they live in the same country and century. maybe wikipedia would help.
I’m curious…do you two find yourselves using American expressions or mannerisms when you in the UK.?? I used to live in London (and visit UK often) and I find that I use quite a lot British terms. Especially loo, ta and bum😎 10:03 March 25, 2023. Peter in Baltimore, Maryland
Did you say you were close to Maperton? Why don’t you go to the estate of the Earl of Sandwich? They have their own u-tube channel. Look them up. They seem like very nice people. Do a joint taping.
Definitely not a compliment to say a pub pizza tastes like a delivery pizza chain. But maybe the day after it’ll taste better in the toaster oven or something.
I have often wondered if you two have watched The Crown on Netflix & you're opinions on it? Also other citizens in GB's opinion on the show. You 2 are awesome. Thank you for all that you do. BTW, you should visit the PNW sometime. Lots of love from the USA.
We have historical places like this in Pennsylvania, made of stone and wood and built in the 1700s, with outdoor decks with seating. Usually great food. The sample board looked excellent, I would pass on the pizza. You should of got the Wellington or one of the prawn dishes. And yes we hate dominos pizza.
1. Yes Domino's is gross. I feel bad for people here who have never had pizza in NYC/Long Island. 2. That is the biggest charcuterie board I've ever seen, and have never seen the equivalent of a loaf of bread on one 3. Interesting (and gross) that something called "cowboy" there means BBQ sauce as it does here
Domino's in the 80s was fantastic. Most people don't like papa John's. I would rather have one of the not a chain pizza places or Mellow Mushroom Pizza, it's amazing.
I'm surprised you didn't get two different pizza's so you could try each others and not have so much of the same leftover. I never get bbq chicken pizza because I find bbq a bit overpowering in flavor. It's fine to have a bit on some grilled chicken or other meat or on the side to dip meat in. As a sauce on pizza, it's like a mouthful with bread. It's just too much. Bummer about the scotch egg. I thought it was a fancy fried cheese ball. Maybe when you do your cooking videos and do British food you can make those. I've never made or had them. They sound great.
@@jwb52z9 Well that's not true. Most of the world eats food with their hands including the UK. Brits eat burgers, sandwiches, fried chicken and many other things with their hands.
Don't worry so much about what people think when you use your cameras. #1, you'll never see them again, #2, you're not bothering them, anyway! The pub, if it were in America, would just be considered a restaurant with a bar. It looked very nice, with a surprising amount of space.
As a vegetarian, I would not eat black pudding but do you eat rare steaks or liver? They are both full of blood, one cooked as a liver, the other oozing blood. I wouldn't have complained about the egg to the point of wanting a refund but I would have mentioned that it was not a scotch egg.
If you had read the memu it told you how the Scotch Egg was made. y'all really need to quit being so bashful. You pay for the service, so you should expect good service.
Slightly off subject..I just saw Eddie Hall eating at a resteraunt in Manchester called Karen's. Have either of you two eaten there? I don't know if I could handle it. We got something similar here in Nashville called Dick's Last Resort.
You both sat there complained about everything to each other the waitress asks is everything OK and you both said yes it's fine it's lovely? You complained about the gates the potholes, is there anything you can do apart from complaining?
I hate when Joel say things like, _"In America they hate Dominos."_ How are you gonna say every person in a country of 329.5 MILLION people hate or dislikes something? You can say SOME people in America hate Dominos. Joel loves lumping all of us together when he says things about America.

Loving these trips and vlogs closer to home even more than the US!!
Oh wow that’s great to hear! Thank you!
“A million pubs per square meter.”
😂 That’s our Joel. Never one to exaggerate!!
Hahaha soooo dramatic 😅
American here who majored in English history. I think the pub is named after Charles I…get it? The king’s head because he lost his. The picture looks like pictures of him.
Love this! Pub grub in the UK is amazing! Glad to see you brought back the UK channel. Thanks for sharing! L&C 👍😘❤️🇬🇧
We’re loving the UK channel!
Charles I was beheaded, I believe King’s Head was representing Charles I
That’s Charles I portrait on the sign.
Nice pub. I'm proud of you asking to have your pizzas boxed up. First time I've seen you take your leftovers home. I never did understand the hesitancy...after all you paid for it. Enjoy your travels.

Lia has been driving a lot on these recent videos lol. Awesome content!!
Nice to start seeing more of the UK. The pub looked very nice and the food looked wonderful even if it wasn't.
Good to see you back.
Thanks Tony!
49 GBP (which is $56) for two Proseccos, a Diet Coke, two pretty good-sized pizzas and a grazing board actually doesn't feel too bad. I think it would be more than that here. Looked really good.

Pickle is, usually, what Americans would call a sweet chutney with a vinegar element to it.
We’d just call it a relish. Chutney is more British English than relish or pickle.
Our Indian neighbors call chutney, "pickle".
I loved you both! Please keep doing videos! I feel as if I’ve visited Britain!
I love the UK travels! Can anyone explain what the "pickle" that look like jam was? I am very intrigued. 🤔
I love that the food in the UK was just okay! Also Americans don’t hate Dominos. We hate Papa John’s.
In “the Hamptons” the cheese board alone would have been $30. I’d take 49 GPB any day. Love your videos!!
Give us footage of how everything is looking in London for the queen’s funeral
You can see it on the news... Line is over 24 hours long. London is a nightmare right now.
Like a snake pit.
Love the relaunch! I really enjoyed your three new videos here and hope to see more fun and historic places. Would love to see a visit to Jane Austen's house in Chawton, Alton, Hampshire or the Jane Austen Centre in Bath. ❤

I will NEVER forget when you both went to White Castle in the USA! That was so HILARIOUS!
Fun to see you two again lately! Same theme "music", just lacking the seating at the end of the bed and the lighted Joel and Lia sign 😂
Hahaha very true!
Joel, you put what you said was pickle on some bread. What kind of pickle is that? It looked purple to me. Are they cucumbers with some other type of sauce?
So is the “chilli” as a pizza topping “chili” or “chiles”?
The first Scotch Egg I ever had was in an English Pub in Nashville....go figure...BTW, it was AWESOME!!!...also had authentic Shepherd's Pie and it was VERY comfort food vibes.
Loved the video guys! Everything looked amazing except for the blood pudding. 🤢 I'm so glad you relaunched the channel! ❤
"Shakespeare as if he were a knight". Or, more likely, Charles I, no?
Right, somewhat resembles the 1633 portrait by Van Dyck of Charles. The name of the pub seems to be a kind of gruesome joke, seeing as how Charles I famously had his head removed by Parliament in 1649!

American here. 🙋🏻♀️ I immediately thought the beheaded Charles I. But I'm interested in British history, so . . .
Universal studios (Or is it Island of adventure?) has a "pub" that serve scotch eggs with Tarragon mustard that is AWESOME!

American here who will take Domino’s over Papa John’s any day. Hate PJ, both the pizza and the owner.
The owner resigned because of the scandal a while ago.
@@jwb52z9 I realize that, and I probably should have said founder instead of owner. In any case, I still don’t like the pizza.
😂
Definitely not a compliment to say a pub pizza tastes like a delivery pizza chain. But maybe the day after it’ll taste better in the toaster oven or something.
Congrats on the “de-constructed” Re-launch!🤣
Highway robbery considering the pizzas were BOGO!
Yeah that was quite expensive actually
So fun!!!

Surely the pub sign was King Charles the First? Hence the King's Head ( geddit?).
cheese and pickle is a great sarnie

DUI is not a big deal in the UK, wow
You can have two drinks and still drive in the UK
@@ThoseTwoBritsUK With that kind of logic, wow here in Cali or the US, we don't agree, wake up UK!
Check out the stats. The UK has far fewer alcohol related accidents, fatalities per head of population. I think we are well awake thankyou!

Would have been nice for them to get 2 different dishes then share for variety reasons and so we can see more of the menu.
Kings Head looked like Charles I
The charcuterie board would have been enough.
6:22 oh so this is like "Kaszanka" in Poland but our version is in shape of a sausage but black xd

I like the blood pudding! A true English breakfast us the best..
Funny. A pub based on King Charles I who was beheaded called the King's Head.

Black pudding should be served fried on a breakfast. Never on a charcuterie board.
