Happy Birthday, Billy! I have to say-I love your and William’s relationship. You two are are connected at the heart. ❤️😊. It’s the same type relationship I witnessed with my husband and our son, who transitioned to Heaven last August. We miss our boy terribly-keep expressing your love for yours-we always did and it brings us great comfort that he knew he was loved.

What a blessing to see William taking a page out of your book and running with it! I can see one of y'all is likely left-handed because this is how hugs go in my family, too - I always end up mirroring my family member or friend (I'm left-handed) going for a hug and one of us has to do a little dance to make sure we don't whallop each other. LOL Starting small in our current place so we're ready to go larger when we get our forever farm - after we work out as many of the "bugs" as we can. And trying to convert my single crop per row husband into an interplanting "almost chaos" raised bed gardener... So far, we've had some promising stuff this year!

    Happy early Birthday Billy 🎉🎊🥳
We bought our place 6 yrs ago this spring, it was technically in Dec when we started the process & finished it in Feb. Hubby instantly wanted to start changing stuff & got mad at me (still is. Lol) because i wanted to know how the land took the snow & rain, where it was going, most of the place was in bad shape. Now we can start making changes as thing's allow. 😅

Thanks for covering mental & physical toughness. We're in TX west of William, where it's hotter and drier. You have to figure out how to manage your tasks when it's over 100F ( real feel can be over 110F). My husband and I are in our 60s and can run circles around much younger but softer folks.
William's plan for learning permaculture sounds great. Add a homesteading festival sometime and we'll come.

I agree, starting too big is probably the MAIN problem that homesteaders make .. Folks that have never lived in the country, run a farm, raised livestock or grown crops don't have a grasp of the labor involved, and try to do 'everything' on one piece of land, with no clear concept of how much they really need, how much they can really work, and what tools will help them the most .. so they overspend on property and equipment, go into debt, get frustrated, and sell their dreams. We should be taking them in hand before they ever consider leaving the city, and giving them small lessons that they can practice in suburbia, so when they get on land, they are not completely lost and clueless. I also think that getting them into land partnerships will be more helpful in the long term - a land partnership done right can give the partners ample time to work out how they will function together long before they get on land .. and the lack of support for beginning homesteaders is likely the SECOND reason most homestead failures happen .. Getting a good deal on some land is wonderful . getting land with no reliable neighbors or local infrastructure is less wonderful, and disastrous for a tenderfoot. A land partnership provides a support network built in, and having the partners provide the extra eyes on a property appraisal can mitigate some issues of permanence, if one has partners that will not pull the trigger on a deal without researching it properly - chose your potential partners well! There is likely to be a great need for consultants in conjunction with those Land Partnerships .. and a need for someone to coordinate events to let future partners meet, and become neighbors before moving to the country. Steal this idea, please! Like most of them .. I put it out there to be used 🔥💜✨ (edit) and, should your partners agree to it, we will be happy to sell trees to them - Jason

This is killer! Talk about several "chips off the old block". Nice work Dad...Ya done good! Might have to pull a Davey Crockett. "I'm going to Texas. Y'all can go to ..."! Because, it sounds like fly over-Mid-West, i.e. NE Kansas is dead last on his list of areas. Wink wink, nudge nudge. I don't know how old your son is. But... Fully digging his poise, his bearing, and keen eye on task and purpose. Thank you!

So as a guess, I would bet he went to see Geoff Lawton, The Permaculture Guru! I still watch Bill Mollison Videos & still always get a good laugh & pick up new tips. Genius! I bought his 1st book, "Permaculture 1, about 35 years ago but it wasn't what I expected. It was basically a book you would take to a course. I still have it & read bits & pieces now & then. I live in NSW Australia & live in a Toyota Van (with my Dog) but have a brother with a business & a back yard that I'm growing a few things that I get from a Charity Food Bank & what I can find cheap in the supermarkets. I get a heap more than I expect, thanks to You Guys & others that I watch. Cheers...
