@@Treeckosaurus well step 1: black has to seal up that 9 to have a chance. point left and you might get the 5-2 if the 6-2 gets taken. you have the best brick so racing might be in yoru favour. Then blue likely takes the 6 wheat and the free road to the port to block orange. with all that wood and the wood port, blue should get his cities np. he might connect late game to take road for the win, since he'll have the best brick after his 3rd settlement. Orange gets a monster 5-9-10 as the 8th placement, but no wheat and lots of wood for no brick. I dont know if you have win the race to the whool port, so maybe point down, but I would get greedy and try. I didnt think very long about this though. Dylighted will do a better job lol
@@DidierPilon I agree that there are too many good spots to stop anyone from having a good set-up, but you can prevent Brown from having double ore, high wheat, coordinated 6's, all resource access and a 3:1-port and that can be done by blue taking the 6/3/11. But yea, playing without ore on this board doesn't work really well.
I think as blue I would ask black for a brick to leave him the 9/10/2, and then take 5910 and play for the high production with sheep port and wood port. very flexible game and the starting brick from black (maybe u can negotiate for more) gets the game moving quickly. starting w no ore also looks less scary so probably not blocked much to start, but once the ports are taken and cities are up, going from 6 pts to 10 is very quick
wonder if black could place on 9,10,11 with road pointing to 3 wood? perhaps green places the same as in the game and black can then take the 3,6,11 pointing road to 4 brick. Blue could place on 8,4,3 wood but might prefer 2,6 to secure ore. Brown can only get wheat at 6,12, otherwise 5,9,10 leaves him with no brick or wheat and 8,4,3 wood if blue does not take it results in blue and brown in weaker positions than the game.
7:03 why doesn’t green put his 2nd settlement on the 2 ore, 9 ore and 10 wheat? This will bring him cities and development cards for largest army... The 8-4-10 is not a very good decision for a final match...
Why would blue let brown get coordinated 6s, all resourses, and a free road towards a port? Makes no sense. How did that player got to the final table?
@@Treeckosaurus Perhaps my second question sounded a bit rude so I apologize to blue player.. But despite your responses Treeck which I appreciate, I think blue going 6/3/11 was an offensive play as well! And a much stronger one. Going 2/9/10 was a much weaker OWS setup than brown. If blue went 6/3/11, brown would've gone 2/9/10 most likely getting a much weaker OWS setup, making the game more balanced and having both brown and black going for army.
That's a fair point and I don't disagree with you. I think it's possible to gang-rob Brown out of the game, but it was unlucky Blue had such a strong start, so Brown could go through the early game relatively easy.
Wow. Blue started off so strong only to get stuck and not be able to do anything. I play Catan a lot with friends and I often win but this is so different.
so around 10:00 there was no mention of blue potentially starting on the 3/10/11 with a road that he can use to get to the 2/9/10. you are only risking a 7 on the first roll. What do you think of this set up? Is it too slow?
I think it's a solid set-up. Maybe a bit slower doesn't hurt Blue here, as he got the leading position way too fast. If you do it though, Black is cut-off twice, so what's his next move gonna be? I think he takes the 3:1-port, which means it's likely you play with an imbalanced resource-gain without a port for a while.I think both set-ups are pretty good.
@@Treeckosaurus thanks for the reply. I agree it would be a clunky game for blue, where you either have no wheat, or more wheat than you can use. I was thinking wood port would be a good back up spot if you cant get 3:1 port. then 5's can supplement your OWS game. and maybe you can sneak longest on a board with low brick
Damn blue really blew it. Had an insane start, but needed to expand to a port. Shoot have just 4:1 for brick and go, spent all that time worrying about the robber and dev cards, and should have just expanded.
Card tracking was great, thanks Ryan!
I'm glad you appreciate it as well :)
It was really awesome!
So fast with the turn timer and the card tracking was a great addition! Keep up the amazing work!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!
Very enjoyable to watch with the card tracking. Thanks for the content!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I was trying to bake a chocolate cake, how did I get here
Bakers of chocolate cakes is my target audience!
such a fast game. I wouldn't mind a placement analysis. seems like there were so many strong spots on the board that it was hard to place defensively
Agreed, I think preventing brown's set-up from having both 6's is the most important. But it would limit your own set-up severely.

1) Offensive play versus defensive play.
2) By winning a lot of games.
Probably not the answers you were looking for

I think it would be good but the other players would be foaming at the mouth at the thought of blocking the 10 wheat as it already was a hot target.
