Yep. Pretty much every drone that comes with that controller has poop level software and can't be trusted. It's the go-to controller for drone companies trying to cut every cost possible.

Steve, Though I'm sure that you would have preferred to demonstrate the full operational capabilities of the JJRC X22, it's nice to see that, like the rest of us, you make mistakes, as well. The fact that the drone went out of control does demonstrate that the manufacturer needs to make a firmware update. A simple, I lost GPS, so stop and hover until GPS signal is restored and/or until a flight command is sent from the controller. Going out of control when the GPS signal is lost is definitely a way to loose my attention as a prospective buyer. The optical flow should have still been working as a ground reference, as well. Even with all the heat, humidity and the lil incident, that was an excellent review, very easy to say this or that, but if that happens a professional pilot like you, image to a beginners like myself , thanks for be real and share with us all the situations, u r da best!!
To stop your Phone from overheating in very hot weather, do what we do. Buy sealable seethrough bags bigger than your Phone. Take a Cool Box with Ice Cubes in it. Put your Phone in the Bag, Seal it and put it in the Cool Box. Works every time and never had a problem. You just need to take it out of the Bag when you need to use it with the Drone.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you did not crash the drone. That thing clearly went AWOL. Regardless of whether the drone was hovering or following you there were no additional inputs and you did not run around like a madman therefore the drone had no reason to do what it did. Mine didn't last long enough for me to test flight modes and I'm surprised they actually work. I like your duct tape fix. The gimbal ripping itself out in high energy crashes is a thing and I have been looking for a way to prevent that from happening.
Hi there Captain drone, i don't think that you are the one responsible for the crash, i saw another video review of this drone, and it also did a toilet bowl flight like what happened to yours, ending in a crash, i think the drone has an issue and should be addressed to JJRC for a fix....or its not a JJRC at all? 🤔
It's not your fault. Last Sunday, I crashed the X22 4 times. Fortunately, apart from a few scratches on the propellers, there was no damage. Something is wrong with this drone. I don't know if it's the firmware, the app or internal interference of the drone that disrupts the proper functioning. I contacted JJRC for more details. I hope to get a satisfactory response from them. In the meantime, I keep the drone on the ground.
Funny I never would guess that in Canada you would have heating problem. North America is going thru a major heat wave!!!! Always enjoy your reviews....

One of weakness’s of drones that use cell phones for the interface is just what happened to you. You can’t see it in full sun and in bright overcast it is still hard to see and read messages. This has been a thorn in my thumb for which the only solution I came up with is to put the phone in a box viewer like a FPV goggle. A little awkward but works. So other than you crashing and destroying the gimbal it was an interesting review. I am wondering if your duct tape fix allowed the gimbal to operate? Your crash was not as bad as the one I had in my first and only flight with my X8 SE 2022 when setting Beeline waypoints the X8 SE 2022 got a mind of its own, while hovering at waypoint 2. While I was trying to set waypoint 3, it decided to enter Sport mode and fly directly into a water tower. Needless to say, after hitting the South Elgin, Il water tower at 38.4 mph, the X8 SE 2022 was totally destroyed with a destroyed gimbal, 3 props sheared off, and two broken arms and items rattling inside of the drone. Lessen learned, Never set waypoints while flying, especially in a small park.
Have a look at the C-Fly Faith 2s - an excellent mid priced drone that connects with cable and not WiFi, Steve has reviewed the older WiFi version but this has now been upgraded - I have one in my fleet and can say it's very good
@@richardhalliday6469 Thanks for the tip Richard :). Similar incident happened to me a couple of months ago i ended up turning on gps follow me mode which was fun for most part i was truely amazed by what the drone was capable of but Wal everything was going well I had not realized that i slowly backing the drone into the trees and it was already to late so i ended up crashing into the trees which then cause me to panicked and ended up using the return to home feature which end the end cause it to be even more mangled than ever in trees but when everything settled i ended up getting my drone back but at the cost of one of replacement battery parts
When it lost signal, it should of hovered in place, or returned to home. Not crashed into the ground. Good thing you discovered this.

Lessen learned, Never set waypoints while flying, especially in a small park.
Maybe they will replace it with another one because it wasn't your fault?
Bit of bad luck with this 1 Steve better luck next time.
Oh man.... this actually looks promising for a budget drone....
It's a shame they all connect with wifi and not through the controller with a cable
I had not considered a 2nd drone until I read yr comment but it could be good to have an aircraft you are not too precious about and without trying to crash it at least you can be more risk taking when trying to discover new film shots (whilst not having your heart in your mouth !).
@@8thday204 Exactly, I have a DJI as my primary drone , the C-Fly is a brilliant back up, excellent video and reasonably priced consumables ( battery, props etc)
This channel is just one big advertising channel for rc hobby related things 😅
Ummm…. That is exactly the purpose of the channel. For me to try products out (of all types) in real life situations so that viewers can make up their own minds if it is for them or not.
Thank you for your honest answer. Keep up the good work. I really enjoy watching your videos.
Great review Captain drone, I was really looking forward at an in depth review of this drone to see if it's worth getting because nobody has done a full review on it yet. I'm really bummed that it crashed can you please get another and test the range and video outside
I’ve got a review coming up. The short version is save your money
@@HalfChrome sweet, I knew the xww was too good to be true. Anything budget is a waste of time if you're looking for anything reliable. Thanks HC will be on the lookout 👀
I have an SG906 pro and for what these cost originally I like it , but these 'budget' GPS drones are becoming ridiculously more expensive every day.
I agree. Today a budget drone is between $200 and $300.
Nice color
Great video, great drone.Too bad it crashed, but if I could afford to buy it,I would.
