Awesome Tom! For squaring off the table I get a scrap piece of wood same size as I intend to cut. Do about a 1/2 inch cut inward. Take it out, put the cut line behind the blade and hold it close to the saw blade. Two things. You should be able to see if the cut is off to one side or the other or straight, and your blade should easily move in and out without the machine running. I will even turn my practice piece of wood upside down to double check. I no longer need any other tools to misplace! 😉 I hope this is understandable! Good video! Volume is great also!
Yes to Steve Good! He is awesome! A fun way to start my day.

Nice project Tom! Any of my scrolling in oak has been in thinner stock. I use a RBI saw I've had for years. I'll have to try thicker stock sometime. I read Steve's blog daily.

Great job, I have been scrolling for years and I use 3M 45 adhesive spray (safe for photos). Then I take the pattern off by hitting it slightly with an inexpensive heat gun. A little mineral spirits for the glue and let it dry. After doing many fretwork projects I find this to be the best way.

Your DeWalt arm does not stay up because one of the Hex nuts on the inside needs to be tightened, this is something you should do at least once a year as part of your "Tune up" of your saw. Look on it like you would your car and take some "T" handle hex keys and open the side and tighten all your hex nuts. Lots of videos on how to do this. Takes about 30 min to do! I've done this for my scroll saw club members and their saws.

just a simple tip----if you use the spray----just get a can of paint thinner-----put some in a spray bottle and give a simple shot over the paper pattern and let let stand for a min. or so and then the paper will come off easy and to get all the glue off again a simple shop of spray over it---the glue will come off easy and the thinner will dry quickly and not affect the wood -

Just pick up a machinist 1×2×3 block. It will fit in around the blade area an ensure you have your blade perpendicular to the table at 90 degrees. ✌ 😃

with regards to the blades-------if you are in the US------google --------Advanced Machinery in Delaware=====check out the PM blades------they cut clean and that oak you have there in this video will just breeze through it-------I always buy by the gross------German blades=-==now as I am in Canada I recently purchased blades from Bear Woods the Swiss PM blades------they are good blades too but in my opinion the German ones are a bit better and I have used them for 30 years======take care and have fun -----Tom

Instead of using painter's tape, go to Walmart and get some transparent shelving paper. It's hella cheap and works better than painter's tape to stop burns (it's a lot cheaper). As a matter of fact, its what Steve is using now instead of painter's tape. You're welcome.

that blade has to be either very dull or a cheap one--------get rid of the olsen and get good German blade that is precision milled ---it will cut that oak like butter and will let you spin around at the corners----------
