    Thank you for posting this video. It answers a lot of questions.
    After woodworking for many years- I would recommend getting a top of the line piece of equipment to start with.
    Anything else you are wasting your hard earned money. Don't start low and plan on upgrading, this is costly.
    Look for good quality machine and wait for a sale. I just bought a King 21" professional scroll saw from Wood Craft because it was $150 off regular price. Yes, I could have gotten a cheaper saw and later upgraded, but why? I made this mistake with my table saw. Bought a craftsman and then upgraded to a saw stop. Could not sell my craftsman for what it was worth so took a significant loss.
    So my message is save up for the top of the line in equipment instead of settling for less and later upgrading. In the end you will say to yourself, I should have gotten the upgraded one to start with.

    So true about WD-40 being a degreaser. I have told many people that, but some of them - including my own brother - still happily use it for lubrication. Probably because if something is almost/completely dry WD-40 may seem like a lubricator - but only for a very short time. Good video.

    Great info, Sterling~! I've been looking at the Dewalt 788 to replace the Craftsman 16" scroll saw that I've been using for YEARS. It was actually my first woodworking tool that my wife bought for me back in 1990. It's been a workhorse, but Sears/Craftsman never improved their blade mounts for pin-less blades.
    Either way, I guess I'll need to build a display case for it for when my wife asks, "What happened to....?" :-)

    I just picked up a used DW788. I'm wondering if you can tell me whether the head that holds the blade is supposed to be lose on the two arms of the machine? I can rattle them around a fair bit. I'm just wondering if I should have them tight or if some play in that head. I think I have a lot of back to front movement when cutting... It's not an issue when I'm pushing the wood to cut, but when I back off the pressure to make a turn it tends to bump the wood around until I put pressure to start cutting again.

  • @bowieinc

    Thank you for a great video. If my blades are breaking, could it be my chuck is too tight? How tight do you get them? I have a porter cable with 5” pinned blades and there is a cap nut on the top quick release so it looks like tension is “pre-set” It really vibrates bad and has done so from the time it was new. I need it to try to reduce the amount of time coping crown mounding. I have a whole house to do and it would be really nice to use the scroll saw vrs the hand saw. Blade recommendation for coping crown mounding? Thanks again! 🙏

      try using a piece of carpet between the scrollsaw and the surface it sits on, as far as the blades, it could be many things, forcing the wood, slower than needed speed, or even cheaper blades, I use pegas because of the metal they are made of, just a stronger blade

    • @SterlingsWoodcrafts
      @SterlingsWoodcrafts  4 роки тому

      Mytoya2 Not sure what you mean by racing, I would assume you’re talking about chatter or racking, this is common with the bearings going out, and it could be a simple as replacing the bearings, the problem with the bearings is there are so many you don’t know which one it is, locating the correct bearing is the hard part, replacing them are easy

Hmmm, any suggestion why it would stop n not restart ? Fuse was ok
