    Good video. I bought mine after spending two years trying to make a 1/8 inch blade run on my band saw. Finally occurred to me to buy the real thing. One thing I have learned in my 76 years is that buying cheap tools is expensive in the longer term. Buy quality. It lasts longer and is generally better to work with. I made a trough that slides under and around the lower arm to catch the sawdust, and I position a vacuum tube above the work topside. As a result, I catch 95% of the dust.
    The DeWalt is good kit, and worth every dollar.

    I wish on the Dewalt that the armature would stay up on its own like the Excalibur. Their is an aftermarket arm holder that you can bolt on. The non-existent dust port surprises me as well. I saw a guy with a shop vac nozzle mounted to the right of the air nozzle so it blows it into the vacuum.

    With your scroll saw you can make a wooden cover to enlarge your blade knob. Great first project!

    It’s a shame inflation is is this bad. I purchased the same saw for $499 with the stool and lamp included, with free shipping from Grizzly like 2 years ago, now 650? That’s some markup. Congrats on upgrading tho.

      Unfortunately my Dewalt unit has no dust collection capability. This was quite shocking to me and a disappointment.
      I would imagine that there are third party dust collection options?

    I have the Dewalt788 and the only thing I don't like about it is the material hold down arm. If you are cutting smaller pieces the hold down is worthless.

      @StevenLarkin  Рік тому

      Hmmm perhaps you can put some wedges on the arm

    Sir, thank you for posting the video. Very helpful! I'm considering purchasing the DW788. I noted your DW788 is a Type 2, as printed on the motor. Have you had any issues with the saw since your purchase 9 months or so ago?

    • @StevenLarkin

      Hello RC and thanks for your question.
      I have had no issues thus far with the DW788.
      If I have one complaint it is that there is no dust collection smarts built into it.
      Ironically the much cheaper Porter Cable does have dust collection.
      I find that there is plenty of power with the DeWalt which I would expect actually.
      Please keep me posted with your progress

    Considering the DeWalt - did you purchase the foot petal separate as it is not included in the specifications? Or is that because Home Depot has a lesser cost version?

    • @StevenLarkin
      @StevenLarkin  Рік тому

      Hello,
      I purchased the foot switch many years ago. It is such a 3rd hand savor! I like having my hands free to control the tool whether drill press, scroll saw and most of all the Router in the router table

      Please go to the main part of the video description and you will find a link to the Footswitch I have.
      Do you want me to do a video just on the footswitch?

      @@StevenLarkin hey thanks for the link. I should be able to figure it out. I just bought the DeWalt 788 saw with the light and stand just an hour ago!!! Largely due to your video. I can’t believe how quiet and stable this saw is. I forgot to buy a foot switch so I will buy one this weekend.

      Yes the portal cable table was tight.
      I am thankful for the space I have.
      As you may know European house and shops don't have the space most US house have
